Still a little stunned, and greatly shamed, by Eddie Williams's soft rebuke of their behavior towards his son, Lou and Kono watched as Chin silently turned and followed Eddie out of the office. Trading guilty glances, Lou and Kono turned back silently towards the computer screen, lost in their own guilty thoughts. Both knew to fix what they had done was going to take a lot more than apologies and promises of how they were going to help him once he was discharged from the hospital. They needed to show him now, just how an important friend that he truly was.

Taking a deep breath, Kono murmured there was something she needed to do before she turned and hurried out of the office, leaving Lou standing alone at the computer desk.

Staring at the empty doorway, Lou swallowed guiltily as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his cellphone. He stared at Renee's number on the speed dial and sighed. He also knew what her reaction was going to be when he told her about his behavior towards Danny over the last few months and how he had accidentally damaged his friendship with the younger man. It was a conversation he was not looking forward to, but he knew it was a conversation that he needed to do with Renee face to face. He desperately needed her help to help repair the damaged that he had accidentally done. And after Eddie's reaction to his overheard apology to Danny at the hospital, he dreaded his reaction when he told her about his attempt to … apologize. He swallowed hard as he forced himself to admit to himself that his actual apology and the offer of looking after Danny and the kids during Danny's recovery had sounded more like an order and expectation for Danny to accept both than a heartfelt apology and offer of help, even to him.

Sliding his phone back into his pocket, he turned and headed towards the door, accepting that the angry wrath of Renee's that he was about to receive was justly deserved. He just hoped that maybe she would have an idea of how to fix his screw-up and how to convince Danny to stay. As for their friendship, he could only pray that Danny might one day forgive him and would be willing to be friends again.

Eric dropped his head in an embarrassment as his mother stared in disbelief at him. "So, let me get this right! You decided that it would be a great idea to collect all the get-well cards and gifts left for your uncle and not give them to him?"

"I-I-" Eric stumbled over his words, his face growing redder as he glanced down at bundle of cards and gifts he had placed on the table, next to his plate, so he would not forget to take them when they visited Danny in the ICU after breakfast. Looking back up at his mother, his blush deepened even more as he saw the same look of disappointment he had seen in her eyes after he had caught in the stolen the car back in Jersey. "I…"

"You what? You thought it would be funny to watch your uncle believe that no one cared about him while you stood by and watched Steve get all the cards and gifts?" Seeing the shocked and guilty look on her son's face, Stella nodded as she added softly, "You didn't think I knew about that, did you, Eric?"

Eric shook his head as he answered, his voice laced with guilt was barely louder than a whisper, "It wasn't like that, Ma."

"Then tell me, Eric Bradley Russo, just what was it like, then?" Stella's disappointment, hurt and anger at her son for what he had done to done to Danny, growing, after he had explained to her about all the cards and gifts, he had brought to the breakfast table and what he had done. "So go ahead and tell me just why you would do something that hurtful to the man who not only risked his career to get those charges in Jersey dropped but then paid your airfare to Hawaii and took you under his wing and helped you straighten out and helped you get your life back on track, something I wasn't able to do." Looking back down at the large pile of cards and gifts before she looked back at Eric as a tear rolled down the side of her face, she whispered brokenheartedly, "Because, Eric, I just don't understand why you would even do that to your uncle, not after all he has done for you… for us."

"I … I never meant to hurt Uncle D, Ma, I swear." Eric answered honestly as he tried hard to make his mother understand what had happened. "I just wanted to show Uncle D just how important he was not only to me but to everyone else."

"By not giving him the cards?" Stella asked in confusion.

"No, I thought that if I kept all the cards and gifts and let him think that he didn't get any than I could surprise him with them and with a party when he got home surrounded by all his friends to show him just how important he is to so many people…" His voice trailed off as he realized just how childish and silly his idea sounded before he took a deep breath and looked across at his mother. "Look Ma, I know I screwed up and I know I screwed up big time. I don't need you, or Chin or even McGarrett to tell how much I screwed things up but I'm going to try and make things right.

Uncle D always tells me that when I screw up, then I should own it, admit it, and then apologize. That that's the true mark of a man, someone who can admit they made a mistake and try to fix it up. And he's right! So, that's what I am going to do, not because I have to but because that's what a man does. That's what Uncle D would do and he's the type of man that I want to be!" Pushing away his plate, he rose to his feet before he walked around to the other side of the table and helping his mother to her feet, Eric smiled weakly, "Uncle D also tells me that you should tell the important people in your life how much you appreciate and love them. So, Ma, I know that I never apologized to you for being a brat of a kid when I was growing up, but I want to tell you now just how sorry I am for everything I put you through. I can only imagine just how hard it was raising me as a single mom and working at the same time to make sure I had everything I needed and wanted. So, I am going to take Uncle D's advice and thank you for everything you have done for me and to thank you for sending me here to Uncle D. I just want you to know that you turned my life around and I will always be grateful that you loved me so much that you did that for me." After lightly kissing his mother's face, he turned and gathered up the cards and gifts on the table before he turned and looked back at his mother's now teary face as he added softly, "And now I have to be the type of man that Uncle D wants me to be and go and apologize to him for what I did. I guess he is right, I should have told him personally just how important he is to me and how much I appreciate everything he has done."

Watching Eric pick up the cards and gifts, Stella smiled through her tears as she made her own decision that she also needed to thank Danny for all that he had done for both Eric and herself. Her smile grew as she followed Eric towards the hotel door, maybe Eric's idea of a party for Danny with all his friends and family after he was discharged…or maybe even before… was not such a bad idea.

After watching Danno tiredly admire the small, new matchbox car that Charlie was proudly showing him, Beth began softly, "I know that you are feeling hurt for the way your Five 0 ohana have treated you, Danny, and I know that you are thinking about leaving Hawaii and returning to the mainland but before you decide anything there is something that I think you should know. I know they messed up and that they messed up big time, but you should also know as much as they screwed up and as badly as they have treated you as a friend that I have never seen a group of people, even members of some blood ohana whom I know, who have been so worried about someone and so terrified that they were going to lose someone as Steve, Chin, Kono and Lou have been about you. Steve and chin both refused to leave your bedside and Lou and Kono have been driving the ICU staff nuts, calling every hour, day and night, demanding updates while trying to keep Five 0 functioning. "

Gracie silently nodded her agreement as Danny looked up silently.

"Look Danny, they know they messed up, and they took you for granted and didn't appreciate the friend in you that they had. They just assumed that you would always be there for them because that's just who you are and now, they are terrified that because of the way they treated you, that they have lost you forever and they don't know how to fix things.

Now don't get me wrong, I am being honest when I tell you that if you decided to, after everything that they and Grace have told Duane and I about how they treated you, I wouldn't blame you if you did. But I don't think that the way they treated you was done with malice or because they didn't want you to be a part of their ohana because I have no doubts that each and everyone of them considers you as an important member of not only the Five 0 ohana but also the five 0 taskforce. So important that if you left Five 0 would never be the same again. I do truly believe that what happened is they did start to take you for granted, that you would always be there for them."

Glancing across at the door, Beth saw Steve had stopped the nurse from wheeling him into the shared ICU room and now was silently sitting in a wheelchair in the doorway, listening to their conversation as she continued," But I also think, Danny that what has happened is not all their fault. I think that before you decide what you are going to do that you also need to take some responsibility for what happened." She saw the confusion and exhaustion in Danny's eyes as she rushed on, hoping to leave something for Danny to think about when he woke up again, as she asked softly, "We both know that you can be quite …" She smiled, knowing her next words would not upset the critically ill man as it was a private, fun tease she often shared with him as she continued, "umm … vocal, when you don't agree with something. It's one of the things I love about you, Danny, but it leaves me wondering, when you felt that you were being sidelined by your ohana, why didn't you speak out and say something?"
