Standing back against the wall, watching the fun -filled, light banter and teasing about Steve's licence and his new car, the Governor waited quietly until the small group of family and friends finally said their goodbyes and left the room. Realizing that the two Five 0 officers had not realized he was still present, he smothered a smile, waiting until the two Five 0 officers had began to relax against their pillows before he cleared his throat, enjoying watching Steve and Danny jump in surprise as he stepped across the room and stood between the two beds.

Glancing theatrically down at his watch before looking back at the two men in the beds, he folded his arms and announced gruffly. "Before I return back to my office, and now that we have all the formalities out of the way, that the three of us have a couple of things that we need to discuss." Deliberately ignoring the nervous glances exchanged by the two roommates, he turned to look at Danny, "I believe that we have established that Detective Williams is still under contract to HPD, I trust that there will be no more discussion of him returning back to the mainland or rejoining the Newark Police Department until his contract is up."

Satisfied when Danny silently nodded his agreement, he turned back to Steve as he frowned, "Which now brings us to the second reason for our little chat. Your resignation. I understand that it is effective immediately."

"Umm…yes, Sir … But I…" Steve stuttered.

"Sir, he didn't…" Danny joined in.

"As I told you before, your resignation leaves me with a bit of a conundrum." Denning continued, silently enjoying the moment as he paused and looked at McGarrett, as if trying to decide what he should do. Releasing a loud sigh, he glanced at Danny before he returned his attention to Steve, "Well, after giving your resignation some serious thought, which took longer than I hoped it would, I have finally made my decision."

"Sir…" Steve tried again desperately, as Danny looked across at him in horror and fear of the Governor's potential next words, only to fall silent as the Governor held up his hand to stop him saying anything more.

"As I was saying, after accidentally walking into Detective's Williams's and your private conversation, yesterday, and after giving it some serious consideration, I have decided to right thing for me to do is to allow Detective Williams to be the one to make the final decision on whether I should accept your resignation or not."

"Sir?" Steve frowned, glancing across at Danny who looked as confused as he was before looking back at Denning, uncertain if he had heard the Governor's decision correctly.

"Me?" Danny stared at the Governor in disbelief as Denning nodded his affirmation. Turning to look at Steve, who was now staring at him in disbelief, Danny turned back to the governor as the decision that the Governor wanted him to make sunk in. Grinning in evil delight, he asked, "Do I have to decide right now, or can I think about it?"

"I think I can give you a couple of days to consider you decision." Denning answered, smiling before he at looked back at Steve, taking a delightfully, memorable mental photo at the stunned look on McGarrett's face as he said, "Now if both of you will excuse me, I really need to get back to the office."

Stepping out of the hospital room, the Governor laughed as he walked down the corridor and out of the surgical unit doors before heading towards the elevators. The look on both McGarrett's and Williams's faces were priceless when he had told them his decision. Reaching the elevator doors, he hit the button to summon the elevator to take him down to the ground floor before he turned and looked back at the unit's closed doors, confident that he knew what Danny's decision was going to be, even if he would have to wait a few days to hear it while Danny had fun torturing Steve.
