AUTHOR'S NOTE=There will be two or three chapters in which there is a lot of explanation of the situation and how it was controlled by Nathan. These are chapters that won't have much romance, and when you read them you'll understand what's been going on, but wait ... because soon there will be chapters full of love ... Of course, the mischief isn't over yet, but they're going to start facing everything together.
CHAPTER 24
Nathan stood next to Elizabeth's bed and held her hands, tears filling his eyes and streaming down his face.
Judge Bill Avery, his voice broken, spoke his moving words during the ceremony.
- Sometimes life plays tricks on us and makes us take certain actions we didn't expect. Today Nathan is taking this action for the good of his family. From this day forward I proclaim as husband and wife, Nathaniel Grant and Elizabeth Thorton Grant. Their children Alien and Jack Junior now adopted by the couple. And by the power vested in me as judge of Hope Valle, County of Alberta, I pronounce you married. Elizabeth, though unconscious, The judge then pronounced the words selected for that celebration.
Pastor Frank, moved to the side of the bed, He looked at Nathan and Elizabeth, a slight movement of the hands, he began in his most solemn voice:
- "Your love was written in the stars. The angels were ready to protect you both, and to unite you. With tears of joy he continued: while they were united, they also dreamed of the family they wanted to build. They dreamed of children who would be the manifestation of the love they felt for each other, a reflection of their dedication to each other. Even in the midst of uncertainty, the hope of seeing the faces of their children Alien and Jack Junior and uniting the two families was always at the forefront of this couple's lives. Love is good and obedient, it knows how to respect and it knows how to forgive, and this couple has had to go through all of that during their long journey so far. And today we are uniting Nathan and Elizabeth, for the love that exists between them. I know that our Elizabeth is unconscious, but I'm sure that God is making her feel all of this man's love for her right now.
- This ceremony was not only the union of two souls in love, but also a celebration of life, perseverance and love's ability to transcend all obstacles. They knew that together they could overcome any challenge, which is why it was Nathan's decision to marry Elizabeth Thorton of his own free will?
- Yes, Nathan answered.
- Since the bride is unconscious, but we know of her wishes prior to this wedding, I ask you? Mr. Bill Avery, guardian and adoptive father of Elizabeth Thorton, do you grant your daughter's hand to this man Nathaniel Grant? Pastor Frank asked seriously.
- Yes, I do and I know the love of this couple. Bill replied.
Pastor Frank blessed the couple with words of hope and healing, asking God to give them health, so that the rest would be conquered. May he give them a marriage full of unity. The ceremony ended with a prayer.
On the bed, with tears of joy in his eyes, Nathan held his wife's hand.
- Elizabeth, my darling... With a trembling voice, he began to say:
- You are the most precious thing in my life. And so are our children Alien and little Jack, and I wouldn't know how to live without you. You gave me a family, or rather, you completed what was missing in mine. You knew how to love me in such an intense way that today I can't spend a minute without you.
- I need you, my Lizbeth! Our children need you. Little Jack on Alien's lap stood there by the bed, looking at his mother who looked like a real princess, after Rose had dressed her in a beautiful white dress, her coppery hair now loose, falling over the white satin sheet and framing her face between the curls. Her face, now more alive, had an eye-catching red mouth. It was there, looking at that mouth, that Nathan put the ring on his finger and then on Elizabeth's finger:
- Sleep my love... Rest as long as you need, I'll take care of our children and we'll be here waiting for you when you wake up. We love you. I love you very much, my Lizbeth.
He looked into her eyes, searching for a sign, a simple sign that she was going to react.
Tears rolled down Nathan's face as he slowly noticed those eyes opening, but he didn't break contact with those blue eyes for a second as they looked at him steadily, as if to say something, before slowly closing...
During that day, Nathan did all his changing, and also took the opportunity to talk to Carson during the doctor's visit. Nathan also learned about Elizabeth's medical routine, making a point of understanding every procedure, medication and when the doctor and nurse met to discuss Elizabeth's case, Nathan was there, asking questions and looking for solutions. He was worried about his wife and would take care of her.
Both Faith and Carson noticed his unwavering love and his determination to be there for Elizabeth at all times. They knew that this man was willing to do anything for his beloved and his children; Bill had taken over his rounds for the next few days, everyone hoped that Elizabeth would wake up soon.
Even though Elizabeth remained unconscious, Nathan saw her love as a healing force. He was determined to wait his whole life if necessary.
