Chapter 2: New World, Same Problems
Two weeks before Mario and Luigi entered this universe a hole in the sky opened and five bright lights came flying out scattering in separate directions, these were the power stars finally reaching their destinations. As one the stars began to descend it was heading towards complex with a large pool and a tall tower. CLANK was the sound it made as it hit the head of a tall pink octopus-man with six arms before landing on the ground.
"NYUUU! What was that thing?" the strange octopus-man said while rubbing the back of his head with one hand and picking up the star with another hand.
"What is it Hatchi?" another strange man with blue skin, sharp teeth and a long saw-like nose asked.
"This weird thing fell from the sky and hit me in the head. It looks like a star with eyes?" Hatchan stated while handing it over to the blue man.
"Huh… what is this thing?" the strange man questioned. He began to squeeze the star, then suddenly he began to glow.
"ARLONG!" the others who surrounded him yelled out in concern for the now glowing man. He stopped glowing when a grey man wearing a fighting gi approached him.
"Are you all right Arlong?" he asked. Arlong then smiled a sinister grin.
"Just fine Kuroobi, this little trinket just filled me with so much power. It seems the heavens have sent us a wonderful gift my brothers!" Arlong shouted holding up the power star and receiving cheers from his comrades. Yes, the power stars have fallen into the One Piece world and now Arlong captain of the Arlong pirates has just acquired one. How will the power stars affect this world, will Mario and Luigi have major roles in the events of this world, will new enemies or allies appear as well, only time will tell.
Back to the present we cut to a young woman with blue hair who is looking out to the sea behind her tangerine trees and a building we could assume to be her home. Lost in a daze thinking of her younger sister Nami, out at sea trying to get enough money to buy back her island from Arlong and free everyone there from this terrible nightmare. While gazing at the sea she noticed something in the water.
"Probably a large fish." She thought, until whatever it was, was getting closer and closer. From the silhouette it looked like a large frog man "A giant frog, no, a fishman!" was the thought that crossed the young woman's mind as memories from when the Arlong pirates first showed up and wreaked havoc on her hometown flashed before her. In terror she quickly ran back to her home shutting the door behind her. Soon the strange creature jumped from the water, the woman peering out through the window saw what looked like some frog creature, then it seemed to grab its wrist and, in a poof, where there was a frog man was now just a regular man with red clothes and blue overalls with a mustache shaking himself dry.
"Come on Mario, let's just go and take the power star!" yelled a small high pitch voice. The woman didn't know where it came from until she saw a small yellow orb with shoes and a star shape on the top of it circle around the man apparently nagging at him.
"No Starlow we are-a in a different world now; it might-a be better to go at this with a diplomatic approach than just go straight to violence. We don't know how the people of this world do things, so it is best if we don't make ourselves enemies straight from the get-go." Our hero has finally arrived at the location Starlow determined where the power star was. "Look a house let's-a see if anyone is-a home." Mario said as he walked to the door. He only gave one rap of the door, when a pistol was shoved in his face.
"Okay mister, you got three seconds to tell me just what the hell you are before I put a bullet in your head." the woman said coldly. Mario just looked at the pistol and the woman in shock wondering what he had done to warrant such a harsh welcome.
"I'm not an enemy, I can tell you that much. So how about we put the gun down." Mario said while reaching for the pistol to push it away from him. The second he touched the pistol; the woman pulled the trigger.
BANG!
Was the sound that rang out as the woman stared at the other end of the pistol expecting to see a dead body, instead she had seen that the mustache man had ducked and avoided the shot entirely.
"But... but… that was right in front of his face, how could he be so quick?"
"Well, that was uncalled for." Mario stated while giving the woman a disappointing look. The woman just stood in shock for a moment, before she hastily tried to reload her pistol.
"No, no, no let's not do that!" Mario said as he grabbed the pistol and wrestled it out of the woman's grasp. Once Mario had wrestled the pistol from her, she fell backwards and frantically crawled away while looking at Mario with fear in her eyes. Mario immediately dropped the pistol and raised his hands in the air.
"Look I'm not going to hurt you I'm not an enemy!" Mario explained, trying to calm the blue haired woman down.
"Well then what the hell are you! There's no way your human, not with the way you swam here and what was with the frog look?!" the blue haired woman asked still on the ground, staring at Mario with fear still in her eyes.
"Oh, the frog suit, it's a special suit that greatly increases my ability to swim and even lets me breath underwater." Mario explained hoping that the explanation of his entrance and first appearance would calm the woman down.
"Show it's just a special suit you wear, it's just some fancy equipment?" the blue haired woman asked, finally rising to her feet.
"Yep, and I am human, well human enough."
"What do you mean by that?" the young woman asked already backing up in fear again.
"Nojiko! I heard a pistol go off is everything alrig- WHO ARE YOU!" another person, an older gentleman with a mustache and scars all over him, wearing what looked like military garb and a pinwheel on top of his hat, yelled out after seeing Mario.
"Oh, Mamamia look I'm-"
"Be careful Genzo, he's not human!"
"No, no, no that's-a not what I meant!" after an hour of explaining himself the two people, who have clarified their names being Nojiko and Genzo, finally relaxed enough to have a conversation with Mario, once everyone made themselves comfortable inside Nojiko's house.
"So, you're a star child?" Genzo asked, with Mario nodding in agreement.
"And that's the reason you were able to swim that fast?" Nojiko asked as well.
"Yep, well that and the frog suit." Mario replied.
"I wonder if star child is just what people from wherever he is from call devil fruit users?" Nojiko muttered to herself. Mario heard her and was confused as to what she meant by "devil fruit users", however before he could ask Genzo spoke up.
"So, mister Mario, what exactly are you doing here?" Genzo asked.
Before Mario could speak Starlow shot out from under his cap and exclaimed "We're here for the power stars!" Genzo and Nojiko both stood up in shock at seeing this little floating orb speak.
"What is that?!" they both questioned.
"Hello, Yello! I'm Starlow!" Starlow shout introducing herself with enthusiasm "And I am a Star Sprite, here to assist Mario in gathering the power stars."
"Power stars?" Nojiko and Genzo questioned, tilting their heads in confusion.
"Yes, you see five power stars fell into this world and I have been sent to retrieve them. Have you noticed any bright lights falling from the sky recently?" Mario asked. That's when Genzo stood up.
"Yes! About two weeks ago a hole opened in the sky and five bright lights fell out. One of them landed in Arlong Park, ever since Arlong and his crew have left us alone. I was hoping that it was a meteorite and that heaven had answered our prayers and killed Arlong." Genzo stated with tears starting to form in his eyes.
"Yeah, I don't think so." Starlow began to explain "Power stars, as their name suggest, are objects of great power and they are capable of amazing and ,if in the wrong hands, terrible feats."
"So, the fact that Arlong and his cronies haven't bothered us since then means…" Nojiko left off, expecting Mario or Starlow to finish it.
"It probably means that they are trying to learn how to use the power star." Mario explained. "Heck with just one, if you know how to, you could make a whole new world or remake a world however you want." Mario finished, with both Nojiko and Genzo falling to their knees. Mario looked at them confused.
Until Genzo said "So, you're telling me that one of those power stars has fallen into Arlong's lap and now he is more powerful than ever." He said with tears falling from both his and Nojiko's eyes.
"Will our nightmare never end?" Nojiko tearfully stated.
Mario asked them about Arlong and ,after wiping away their tears, they explained everything to him. How Arlong conquered their town as soon as he and his crew landed, how the townsfolk now live in a constant state of fear, and finally how Nojiko's mom Bellemere was shot and killed by Arlong and how her younger sister, Nami, was taken and forced to work for Arlong or else he would kill everyone in the village. Mario just stood in silence his head tilted in a way where the shadow of his cap covered his eyes.
"I don't think diplomacy will work with this Arlong guy Mario." Starlow said, breaking the silence.
"No, it won't." Mario replied while walking out the door.
Nojiko lifted her head "Hey, where are you going?"
Mario then turned around "I'm-a going to get the power star back and take care of this Arlong guy for you." He stated giving Genzo and Nojiko a thumbs up and a smile before heading towards Arlong Park.
"WHAT!" both Genzo and Nojiko screamed out in shock, getting up from their knees and running in pursuit of Mario in hopes of stopping him.
Soon Mario came upon Arlong Park and the huge steel doors that served as its entrance. With a mighty leap, Mario launched himself at the doors charging his fist with fire and with a loud and proud "LET'S-A GO!" blew open the doors to Arlong Park. All the fishman turn to the explosion expecting to see a canon, but instead see a small mustache man in red walk through the smoke.
"What's this, a human too big for his britches?" Arlong stated not getting up from his seat.
Suddenly Starlow flies out and points to Arlong with her now glowing star antenna "Him Mario! He has the power star!"
Arlong now eyeing the small star sprite and moving his hand to his pocket grasping the power star. "So that's why you're here, for this "power star"." Arlong said, getting up from his chair and showing the power star to Mario and Starlow.
"Yes."
"And who are you to try and take it from me and how did that thing know I have it?" Arlong questioned, pointing his finger at both Mario and Starlow.
"I'm-a Mario and this is Starlow, a star sprite, she has the ability to sense power stars and I have been sent to retrieve them." Mario then looked straight at Arlong. "And I assume you're Arlong."
"You got that right, human." Arlong stated with venomous tone.
"Okay Arlong, let's-a go." Mario said, getting in a fighting stance.
"HA! As if I'd dirty my hands with scum like you, Hatchi!"
"Yes Arlong." Hatchan stood up in response to Arlong's call.
"Get rid of this trash, and make sure to capture that star thing whatever it is, I need her to find me more of these "power stars"
"You got it Arlong." Hatchan replied, while pulling out six swords. "Prepare to face the octopus six sword style!" Hatchan yelled out while charging at Mario. Mario only held up his fighting stance in response, then Hatchan finally brought down his blades. Everyone was expecting blood splatter and to see Mario's body shredded, instead Mario was blocking the sword strikes, no he was parrying them. And every time he did his body flashed white momentarily.
"What the hell kind of devil fruit is that!?" Arlong thought, watching the fight with anger now replacing his cockiness.
"Looks like all those Smash Bros. tournaments are really paying off. Still this guy's sword swings are so slow." Mario thought comparing Hatchan to all the other swordsman he's faced in the Smash Bros. tournaments. Such as Link, Marth, Roy, and Metaknight and remembering how fast their sword swings were, especially Metaknight's.
In a fit of rage Hatchan swung all six blades down on Mario, but Mario had sidestepped the attack and grabbed Hatchan's leg. Then began to slam him on to the ground, Hulk style, then tossed him into the air and then cupped his hands behind him, charging his attack. And as Hatchan fell in front of Mario, he thrusted out his arm with a small fire ball in his hand, which exploded when it made contact, sending Hatchan flying into the horizon.
"HATCHAN!" all his fellow crew members called out. "So, you got devil fruit powers do ya?" Arlong said, causing Mario to tilt his head in confusion.
"Devil fruit powers?"
"Well, we know how to take care of freaks like you. KUROOBI!"
"Right!" the grey skinned fishman answered while tackling Mario towards the large pool. "That was a pretty hot attack, how about we cool you off?" Kuroobi said while jumping into the pool with Mario in tow.
"Mario no!" Nojiko cried drawing the attention of Arlong and the other fishmen while Genzo tried to pull her back down behind the damaged wall of the entrance.
"So, it was you two!" Arlong yelled, causing Nojiko and Genzo to stumble backwards in fear. "You sent that freak here to try and get rid of me. I thought after everything that has happened you would have learned by now, but it appears you humans are even dumber than I thought." Arlong said while approaching them, when suddenly someone flew out of the water. "That was quick, was he really that weak Kuroobi?" Arlong asked, only for Kuroobi's bruised and beaten body land in front of him. Arlong was left speechless until.
"Wahoo!" Mario's cheer and exit from the pool broke him from his shock. "Did you really think the water would give you an advantage?" Mario asked, drawing the ire of Arlong.
"Don't get cocky human, we fishmen are the superior species of this world. You damn freak of- WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!" Arlong yelled in shock causing everyone except Nojiko to gawk at Mario's appearance.
"HE'S WEARING A FROG SUIT!" all the fishmen cried out at Mario's new appearance.
"Oh, this?" Mario said while pulling the cuff of his glove. POOF! Then he looked normal again.
"What kind of devil fruit is that?" Arlong yelled out, again confusing Mario.
"Devil fruit?"
"Yeah, what kind of fruit do you have you damn freak of nature!" Arlong yelled, waiting for an answer from Mario.
"I don't have a devil fruit. I don't even know what a devil fruit is." Mario said, shocking everyone and causing Arlong's crew to cry out "WHAT!" with their arms held up in the air and their eyes popping out their heads. Arlong glared at Mario, with Mario glaring back, but noticing Arlong glancing towards his right. Mario turned his head just in time to see a small projectile flying towards him and moving his head out of the way. Mario then shot two fireballs towards the area where the projectile came from.
Chew, a blue fishman with thick lips, jumped out of the way of the fire balls. "You are an annoying opponent, chu."
Mario only stared back at him. Chew then shot out three water bullets from his mouth at Mario. In response Mario pulled out a yellow cape and swings it out in front of him.
"What was that for?" Arlong asked, expecting to see Mario with three bullet holes in him, but instead saw that he was completely unscathed. "So, you blocked Chew's attack with your weird cape, huh. Well let's see how long you can keep that up. Chew use your strongest attack on him!" Arlong ordered but didn't get a response from Chew. "Chew?" Suddenly Chew fell, dead, with three bullet holes in him. "CHEW!" Arlong screamed "You bastard, you killed him!"
"Well technically he killed himself, I just reflected the attack with my cape"
"That's it, everyone KILL HIM!" Arlong ordered his remaining crew mates.
They all attacked Mario at once, but Mario was too agile, dodging all their attacks and knocking them all out in a flurry of kicks, punches, and stomps. Soon there was a pile of unconscious fishmen under Mario. Arlong gawked in horror, until Mario charged up a fire ball in his hand and threw it down at the pile.
"NOOOOOOOO! MY BROTHERS!" Arlong screamed as he watched all his crew go up in flames. "YOU KILLED THEM!"
"Like how you killed Bellemere and who knows how many other innocent people." Mario retorted.
Arlong then launched himself like a missile at Mario, jaws open and spinning. Mario simply stood there, held out his hands and caught Arlong in midair. Arlong was horrified "He should be skewered. What the hell is going on!?" was Arlong's thought process before Mario slammed him into the ground. Then while Arlong was sprawled out on the ground Mario grabbed his legs and began to swing him around, before throwing him at the far side of the complex and into a wall. "That's it you bastard." Arlong said, while grabbing a giant saw blade from a nearby shelf.
"Oh, so now we're using weapons." Mario replied, while pulling out his hammer from his overalls.
"How the hell were you keeping that in your pocket?"
"Trade secret." Mario smugly replied, angering Arlong even more.
Arlong charged in at Mario swinging down his massive blade, only for Mario to swing his hammer up and break the top of Arlong's weapon. "What!?" Arlong cried out in shock, while Mario repeatedly swung down his hammer and destroyed the rest of Arlong's weapon. Arlong backed up, looking at the empty hilt where his weapon once was. "This can't be happening. This must be some sort of terrible nightmare." Arlong said while backing up in horror.
"It's over."
Arlong turned to where the voice came from. It was Genzo and Nojiko as they stared at him with contempt and satisfaction that finally after so many years of terror, Arlong was getting what he deserved.
"NO! IT CAN'T BE OVER! MY DREAM WILL NOT BE DESTROYED BY SOME FREAK IN CRAPPY OVERALLS AND A TERRIBLE MUSTACHE!" Arlong cried out, while Mario just facepalmed over the insults to his attire. But then Arlong smiled a terrible, wicked grin and reached down his pocket and pulled out the power star. "LET'S SEE WHAT THIS POWER STAR IS TRULY CAPABLE OF!" Arlong yelled out gripping the power star. He began to glow and grow bigger and bigger until he was half the size of Arlong tower. "HAHAHAHA! YES! SO MUCH POWER! FINALLY, I CAN PUT YOU BACK IN YOUR PLACE HUMAN!" Arlong yelled out at Mario.
Mario only shook his head in disappointment. "Mamamia. Well, let's-a go." Mario replied, readying himself for another fight.
Arlong brought down his massive fist at Mario, only for Mario to roll out of the way. "HOLD STILL!" Arlong screamed, desperately trying to hit Mario, only for Mario to avoid all his attacks. Then Arlong reeled back his fist and threw it at Mario. Mario just planted his feet and pulled back his own fist to meet Arlong's. The two fists collided creating a massive shockwave knocked both Genzo and Nojiko to the ground. When they stood back up, they saw that Mario had stopped Arlong's massive fist with his own.
"Just how strong is this guy?" Genzo thought.
Then suddenly rips and tears began to form on Arlong's arm and blood gushed forth from them. Arlong grabbed his now broken hand and cried out in pain while Mario jumped up high in the air, right above Arlong's head and then stomped it into the ground.
"That was-a for Bellemere!" Mario stated, then jumped over to Arlong's other hand and stomped on it, breaking it as well. "And that was-a for Genzo!" Mario wasn't done, he then jumped over to his left leg and did the same. "That one was-a for Nojiko!" then Mario jumped to the other leg and broke it. "This one was-a for Nami!" and finally launching himself high in the air, then coming down with a power stomp on Arlong's back, crushing it and causing Arlong to cough out blood. "And this is for everyone in the village!" Mario said triumphantly.
Arlong then began to shrink down in size until he was normal again. Mario searched him and pulled out the now drained power star.
"Looks like your too late." Nojiko said while her and Genzo walked up to their hero.
"No, it's drained now but after a few days rest it'll be back at full power and good as new." Mario happily stated, bringing a smile to Nojiko's face.
"My… dream…" Arlong weakly cried, causing everyone to face him. Mario then turned around and looked at the tower.
"So, this was his dream?"
"Yes, but it was living nightmare for us. Especially for my sister, who was forced to live here." Nojiko replied to Mario while clutching her arms.
Mario remembered how Nojiko told him about Nami's terrible living conditions and how her room was on the top floor. Mario began to walk towards the tower. "What are you doing?" Nojiko asked.

Mario then began to tear down the tower with his hammer. Within a matter of seconds, the entire structure was gone, except for one room.
"No…" Arlong weakly cried out.
"What room is that?" Nojiko asked.
"It's-a Nami's room."
"Why are you saving it?" Nojiko asked.
"I have something planned out for both you and Nami. Something that should help you both deal with the terrible memories you have of this place." Mario replied to Nojiko with a smile on his face.
"Damn you… Damn you all…" cried out Arlong, dying on the ground and gathering the attention of everyone there.
"It's-a over Arlong, you hurt and killed innocent people and now you get exactly what you deserve." Mario said, while lifting his hammer for the finishing blow "Bye-Bye" said Mario, bringing down his hammer and putting Arlong out of his misery.
"Finally, Arlong's dead!" Genzo cried out with tears of happiness. Suddenly a group of marines lead by a man with the characteristics of a rat appeared behind Mario and his friends.
"Well, well this was unexpected. I never imagined Arlong's crew being defeated by one man, must've been a fluke. But still, this works out nicely for me. We will be taking all the treasure he has accumulated as well as that "power star" and I colonel Nezumi of branch sixteen will be taking all the credit!". Then Mario outstretched his hammer towards Nezumi and his men.
"I won't let you do that. The treasure should go to the village and the power star stays with me." Mario said walking towards Nezumi and his men.
"Hey, stay back, I'm warning you." Mario was undeterred as he continued walking towards Nezumi. "I warned you! Men, open fire!" Nezumi ordered, with the marines around point their rifles at him and shooting. Mario just swung his cape and deflected the shots, causing them to ricochet around the marines and making them cower in fear.
"Now that that's over, I need you to do something for me." Mario said, creating a fireball in his hand.
"A-A-And what w-w-would that be?" Nezumi nervously asked.
Mario then clenched his fist, with the fire ball inside, and pulled it back "LEAVE THESE PEOPLE ALONE!" Mario shouted as he launched his fist towards Nezumi and his men creating a small explosion and sending the marines and Nezumi flying into the ocean.
"You won't get away with this! Major things are going to happen! Because you made me angry! Your name is Mario right!? Well mark my words red man, I'll get my revenge! Just you wait and see!" Nezumi yelled as he and his men swam away.
"What does he mean by that!?" Mario pondered.
"Oh, nothing much, just that you'll probably have a bounty on your head now." Nojiko replied.
"What, really?"
"Yep, congratulations you're a pirate now." Genzo added, while patting Mario's shoulder.
"What, pirate, me?" Mario confusedly asked while pointing at himself.
Meanwhile in a faraway land we see Luigi and his ghostly canine companion Polterpup trudging through a hot desert, while using his ice flower powers to keep himself cool.
"Mamamia, where did Mario go. I hope he's alright and we can meet up soon." Luigi said to himself, unaware of a strange, robed figure with a tattoo of a skull crossed with two swords and purple wings watching him.
"Now who is this weirdo and what's up with that dog?"
