Chapter 20: Reclaiming Alabasta

On Beep-o's ship

As they were approaching the resistance base Vivi turned to everyone.

"Listen everyone. The people of the resistance have been through a lot so when we arrive you are not from another universe. Instead you are from an island located in the New World, ok?"

"New world? I'm sorry princess Vivi but I am not familiar with that location." Beep-o said.

"It's the second half of the Grand Line. It's also known as the strongest and most dangerous part of the Grand Line so it'll be more believable that you are from there given how strong you all are."

"I see. But why can't we just tell them the truth?"

"Beep-o, these people have suffered so much at the hands of Cursa and if they find out that not only her but us are from a universe separate from theirs then they might blame and turn on us for bringing her here." Mario explained.

"It's not our fault, but I see your point. Very well then, we'll go along with that story."

"Thank you." Vivi said.

"Attention. We are arriving at the resistance base." Jeanie announced.

They soon arrived and all of the resistance fighters welcomed the heroes who saved them from the Darkmess forces at the battle of the capital. While they were getting off Vivi noticed that there were more resistance fighters now. That is when Koza walked up to them.

"Welcome back. I'm glad to see you didn't fall victim for Crocodile's trap."

"We did Koza, but thanks to Mario and his friends we were able to escape." Vivi said.

"Same for us. I still can't believe that there was a spy amongst us but at least we survived." Koza then noticed Ace and Smoker. "And I see you found more allies and one of them is a marine."

"Captain Smoker, and I assume you are the leader of the resistance?" Smoker asked while introducing himself.

"Yeah, but we all follow the princess to free Alabasta. And you are?"

"Fire Fist Ace of the Whitebeard pirates."

"What!? What's the second division commander of the White Beard Pirates doing here?" Koza asked in shock.

"Two reasons. One was to find my little brother. Two, to hunt down someone who committed an unforgivable crime, but thanks to this Darkmess stuff I lost the lead I had."

"I see. Then if this Darkmess is the problem would you lend us your aid. The faster it's gone the faster you can continue your search."

"True, so I guess you have my support then."

"I can't believe you would ask help from a pirate." Smoker scoffed.

"I understand your concern captain, but with everything going on we'll take all the help we can get." Koza explained.

"Fine."

Koza then saw shadow Luffy.

"And who is this?" Koza asked.

"This is Luffy. The kid with straw hat from earlier was the spy. It was someone from my island who has the ability to steal bodies and the person whose body was stolen is stuck in this shadow form until we can break the spell." Mario explained.

"Oh, I'm sorry for your troubles and I hope you can get your body back soon."

"Don't worry, I have a plan to help with that."

Vivi explained as a large cloud of dust entered the cave.

"And here they are."

Once the dust settled it was revealed to be Karoo along with a group of other ducks. Vivi walked up to them and turned to the Straw-hats and rabbids.

"Allow me to introduce the Supersonic Duck Squadron."

The ducks then gave a salute as Beep-o floated up to Vivi.

"Okay, and what are they going to do?"

"I'm glad you asked Beep-o. Just as their name suggests these ducks move at supersonic speeds. Once we get those magical signatures from Jeanie they can get the letters to break the spell on Luffy."

"And how long would it take Vivi?" Usopp asked.

"Not long at all Usopp. I can't think of anything that can outrun a supersonic duck."

"I know of a certain blue hedgehog who can." Mario said to himself.

"Alright then. Jeanie, if you would get us those locations please."

"Right Beep-o. After scanning the tablet I have traced similar magical signatures to these locations."

Jeanie projected a holographic map of Alabasta with four marks on it.

"These are the most probable locations of the missing letters."

"Alright Karoo!" Vivi called out to her pet. "I need you and three others to go and collect the letters that go on this tablet. Do you understand?"

Karoo and three other ducks saluted in understanding.

"Good, we're counting on you now."

Karoo and the three other ducks took off towards the locations on the map. While they were doing this everyone else gathered around a large table to start planning the counter attack.

"First off Mario, how many spark weapons do you have?" Koza asked.

"Just enough for a small group." Beep-o answered. "Since it was Mario and his friends who defeated Cursa the first time we only brought enough weapons for them plus a few extras."

"I see." Koza said in disappointment. "So we would be useless then."

"Not at all." Jeanie said as she appeared next to Beep-o. "Just being near a spark will weaken Darkmess empowered foe's to the point where you could damage them without spark powered weapons."

Everyone of the resistance perked up at this news.

"Go on." Koza said.

"The presence of the sparks is strong enough to weaken nearby Darkmess users to the point regular weapons will damage them, but that will not be enough." Jeanie projected a holographic map of Alabasta with five red marks on it. "At these marked locations are large concentrations of Darkmess. As long as they are around any damage done by none spark powered weapons will be healed instantly."

"That's troubling, but would explain the invincibility shown by all these Darkmess soldiers."

"I would recommend splitting into groups to take out these concentrations of Darkmess. Groups of three spark carriers to go inside the Darkmess puddles and destroy them."

"Wait. We have to go inside the Darkmess puddles?" Nami asked.

"Yes. They can't be destroyed from the outside. In each Darkmess puddle is a powerful Darkmess infused soldier, a commander if you will. As long as they are active and inside the Darkmess puddle the puddle itself cannot be destroyed." Jeanie explained.

"So we just go inside and beat whoever is in charge of that Darkmess puddle right?" Zoro asked.

"Correct."

"Sounds easy enough."

"Are you crazy!" Usopp shouted. "Who knows what kind of powerful freaks are in those puddles."

"On that note, Jeanie your earlier scans said that there was no one comparable to Mario earlier but when we fought Cursa the first time it took all of us to beat her. Are your scans accurate?" Peach asked.

"That is why our chances of success are around sixty two percent. While scanning I noticed some anomalys, energy signatures that should be present but aren't. It would be safe to assume that Cursa is hiding them from us."

"So she's doing her best to make sure we won't be prepared for whoever is waiting for us. Then we must be extra prepared!" Beep-o exclaimed.

"Yes, now you would need to destroy these four Darkmess puddles first as they are creating a barrier around the fifth one preventing anyone from entering." Jeanie explained.

"That last one is at the palace. It must be where Crocodile and Cursa are." Koza said.

"Right! So here's the plan. Koza, you and your resistance will watch and wait for us to destroy the Darkmess puddles. Once they're gone you go in and take care of and stooges left behind." Mario said.

"Right."

"As for us we're..."

Just then a large dust cloud appeared.

"They're back."

Vivi said as the dust dissipated revealing three of the supersonic ducks. That is when Vivi noticed something.

"Hold on. Where's Karoo?" Vivi desperately looked around before turning to Jeanie. "Jeanie, where's Karoo?"

Jeanie pulled up the holographic map again.

"My scans show that the last letter is still at its location but there is a life signature there that is showing an abnormal reading."

"Okay, now again in english." Nami said.

"Whoever is there is hurt."

Vivi gasped at this revelation.

"Oh no, Karoo."

"Okay new plan! Luffy, Nami and Ace, you three are going to head over to that last location. No doubt Doopliss is there and guarding the last letter and I don't think he's alone."

"Right!" Nami and Ace answered back.

"Next, Edge, you take Zoro and Smoker and attack this puddle. Vivi, you are going with Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Luigi to take out this puddle. Remember guys, she's the princess of this kingdom so make sure to keep her safe."

Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Luigi gave thumbs up.

"Thank you for the concern Mario but I can fight for myself." Vivi said.

"Still, you are this kingdom's princess. We can't let you fall in battle."

Koza and the rest of the resistance agreed with Mario's statement.

"I see. Don't worry, I'll make sure to survive. For my kingdom and its people."

"Good, now Luigi, you are going to take Usopp and Chopper to take out this puddle. Two snipers and a doctor who can serve as a tank should make an excellent team."

"Okie dokie Mario, but how can this little guy be a tank?" Luigi asked.

"Like this!" Chopper said as he turned into his muscle form.

"Wow! That's amazing."

"Oh stop it you bastard, I don't need your praise."

Chopper said while doing his happy dance. Mario's friends looked towards Mario in confusion.

"Oh that's just how he acts when he's praised don't think too much about it." Mario explained.

The others just nodded in understanding.

"Now the final team will be me Peach, Rabbid Peach and Sanji and we'll take out the fourth puddle. Once the fifth puddle is revealed we will on converge on it."

"Don't worry mademoiselle's I'll protect you both." Sanji said to Peach and Rabbid Peach while doing his noodle dance.

"While that's thoughtful don't forget that we need to work together to destroy that puddle, so if Mario needs help I expect you to help him to." Peach said.

"Of course Peach-swan."

"Ugh, hashtag weird love cook." Rabbid Peach said while taking a selfie with Sanji.

"What do you mean by that!?" Sanji yelled.

"Exactly what it means you shitty cook."

"What did you say moss head?!"

Zoro and Sanji got in each others face until.

"ENOUGH!" Nami yelled while punching both of them. "Now is not the time for this!"

"Alright then, let's move out!" Mario yelled.

With that the group separated into their respective teams. Ace Nami and Luffy were riding three of the supersonic ducks to the location Karoo was attacked. Mario and the others were on the spaceship and are going to jump into the puddles once they were over them. Luffy's group soon arrived at their location, some recently uncovered ruins. Once they entered they saw Karoo on ground beaten and bruised.

"Oh no." Nami said as she examined Karoo.

"Well well well, look who it is."

Came a voice from deeper within. Luffy and the others looked up up to see Luffy(Doopliss) staring back with a shit eating grin.

"If it isn't Monkey D. Loser and his merry band of idiots." Doopliss said in a mocking tone.

"Who are you calling idiots!?" Ace yelled.

"You and your friends Ace. After all, only idiots would walk straight into a trap."

Doopliss snapped his fingers and the way behind Luffy and his friends was sealed with Darkmess. Soon the room was filled with a strange black smoke.

"Looking for this?"

Doopliss asked while waving the final letter at the straw hats. Ace was about to attack when Nami stopped him.

"Wait, look there."

Nami pointed to two figures coming out of the darkness behind Doopliss. Nami was shocked to see who it was.

"No way, how? How are you here?"

Nami asked as the figures were revealed to be Mister Five and his partner Miss Valentine, both infused with Darkmess.

"How are they both here? Mario beat them back at little garden."

"Simple you stupid little girl, Cursa. She saw potential in these two and brought them here. By the way, the smoke is from our dear Mister Five." Doopliss explained.

"If that's true then, Ace! Don't use your fire attacks!" Nami ordered.

"Huh? Why?"

"Mister Five ate a bomb devil fruit and can turn any part of his body into a bomb. It's safe to say that all this smoke is explosive."

"That's right." Doopliss said getting everyone's attention. "If Ace so much as lights a spark this whole room goes boom!" Now he might survive it since he can turn into flames but you two on the other hand, not so much."

"But what about you three?" Nami asked as she stealthily took out something from her waist.

"I'm a spectre so I might lose a body but there are always more to steal." Doopliss said while eyeing Ace. "And these two are infused with Darkmess so they'll be fine."

"Really? Then, Ace now!"

Nami yelled as she stabbed a rod into the ground and created a stone barrier around her and Luffy. With that Ace ignited his fist and the smoke was ignited as well creating a large explosion. As the smoke and dust settled we see Doopliss getting up out of some rubble along with Mister Five and Miss Valentine.

"What the heck? You little brat." Doopliss said as he looked around. "What did you do?"

"Oh nothing much, just created a barrier with my new spark weapon."

Nami showed off a staff with pieces connected to orbs.

"Now I'm confused." Ace said. "Didn't Beep-o give some rubber duck grenades?"

"He did, but after some modifications from Beep-o and Usopp they made this. Now Beep-o calls it the spark staff but I prefer the clima-tact."

"Nice."

"Well, what are you morons waiting for? Get them!" Doopliss ordered.

Mister Five and Miss Valentine charged at Ace and Nami. Ace fought with Mister Five while Nami fought with Miss Valentine. Mister Five tried to make a cloud of explosive gas but Ace sent out a flaming fist destroying it before it was ready. Mister Five tried to grab Ace, but Ace ducked under his arm and launched a fire fist into Mister Five's gut. Mister Five fell over in pain while Ace was grinning.

"Not so easy now that we leveled the playing field huh?"

Mister Five gritted his teeth in anger and released a large amount of explosive smoke from his body.

"What the hell!?"

"I think he's going try and blow us all up with an even bigger explosion." The spark accompanying Ace said.

"Damn it! What can we do?"

"Use my power Ace."

"But won't that just make it explode?"

"Since his power is Darkmess infused a spark powered attack will just burn it away."

"Alright then please lend me your power."

The spark began to glow and Ace began to glow as well.

"Now take this, a sparking fire fist!"

Ace shot a giant fireball at Mister Five. Mister Five and all his smoke was engulfed in the flames and soon a pain filled scream was heard. After the fire went out Mister Five was lying on the ground, unconscious and free of Darkmess.

"How's he not dead?" Ace asked.

"Since your attack was spark fueled against a Darkmess powered foe it just purified him. Sounded painful though." The spark explained.

"Ok then."

While Ace was chatting with the spark Nami was facing off against Miss Valentine. Miss Valentine was fighting much more ferociously this time thanks to her Darkmess enhancements. It was all Nami could do to avoid being crushed by one of her axe kicks. When she had some distance from Miss Valentine Nami took one of the pieces of her staff and threw it at Miss Valentine's feet. When it hit the ground a small explosion of purple goo covered Miss Valentine. Angered Miss Valentine attacked Nami again, but this time Nami blocked the attack.

Miss Valentine was shocked while Nami winked at her while pushing her off. Nami then threw another piece of her staff that created a small burst of ice and froze Miss Valentine in place. Nami threw another piece that created a small burst of flames that engulfed Miss Valentine. There was a loud scream of pain before the flames dies out and Miss Valentine was unconscious and free of Darkmess.

"Nice Nami! But how did you do that?" Ace asked.

"Do what?"

"The pieces of your staff, how did you make them fly back to you?"

"Oh, when Beep-o made my clima-tact he took some inspiration from Edge's sword and now the pieces I throw will always come back to me."

While Nami and Ace were talking Doopliss was glaring angrily at them.

"Darn it, those useless goons. Whatever, as long as I have this."

Doopliss reached into his pocket, but couldn't find the letter. He desperately searched until he saw Luffy with the letter.

"What the! How? When?"

"Good job Luffy! I'm glad I taught you how to pickpocket." Nami cheered.

"When did you do that?" Ace asked.

"Back at the base before we left. I figured if Doopliss had the last letter Luffy would need to take it back himself."

"Why you!"

Doopliss started to yell at Nami but stopped when he saw Luffy pull out the tablet.

"NO!"

Doopliss yelled as Luffy put in the final piece to spell Doopliss's name. Both Doopliss and Luffy were engulfed in a bright light and then it stopped showing Luffy and Doopliss still the same.

"So, did it work?" Ace asked.

Luffy started to stretch his arms and legs to show that he had gotten back his stretching powers. Nami and Ace were happy until Doopliss broke the mood.

"So what? I can also stretch like you moron!"

Nami was about to attack when Luffy stopped her.

"I think he's saying that he wants to do this himself." Ace explained.

Luffy nodded as he got ready to fight.

"Alright then loser, try this! A Gum-Gum pistoooooo..."

Doopliss tried to copy Luffy's attack but his fist got caught on a piece of rubble from the ceiling and he was pulled back into a wall.

"Ouch! I remember when Luffy would do that. Hah! You may have Luffy's body but you don't know how to use it." Ace said.

Doopliss just stared at them in anger, until a grin formed on his face.

"Hey Cursa! Great timing, I could use some help."

Ace Luffy and Nami turned to see nothing.

"Oh not aga-"

Ace was cut off as Luffy launched his fist in front of Doopliss preventing his escape. Luffy pulled himself towards Doopliss and as he landed on him began to beat him up. Doopliss was punched, kicked and flung into walls over and over again. On his final attack Luffy flung Doopliss so hard that a spiderweb crack formed under him. As Doopliss slid down he and Luffy were engulfed in a puff of smoke. When it dissipated Doopliss's true form was revealed and Luffy was back to normal.

"Alright! I'm back!" Luffy yelled in excitement.

"Ahh! You bunch of killjoys! I'm outta here!" Doopliss screamed as he ran towards a wall.

"Where do you think." Nami was about to say as Doopliss phased into a wall. "You're going... What the!"

"Mario did say he was a spectre so it makes sense that he can go through walls." Ace said.

"Whatever, at least the stupid bed sheet is gone." Luffy said.

"Hey look."

Nami pointed to the exit that was blocked as the Darkmess covering it began to disappear.

"Now we can get out."

"Good, then let's go. Oh, and we'll need to get you a spark now Luffy." Ace said.

"Cool! I can't wait."

Luffy replied as he Nami and Ace exited the ruins.
