Chapter 5
Reiji Sakamaki
"You are to pick one of us to marry." "You were important to us." "Your name is in fact Akira."
My head was filled with the thoughts of that night. My feet moving but I'm unaware of wearing I'm going. I don't even feel the coldness of the outside wind or hear the trees rustling leaves. My body is only moving while my head in continuously thinking.
I knew the Sakamaki brothers. My home use to be here...
I stopped myself to rethink what I thought.
My home was here... Then... does that mean the Sakamki's are my...
My thinking stopped when I noticed a gravestone in front of me. There wasn't only one but hundred of them. Plus, I was still in the gates of the house. As I saw the grave in front of me, my heart thumped loudly. Both with nostalgic and pain. I was drawn closer to this gravestone. The name was there slightly and my heart kept beating fast as I read the letters; C, O, R, D, E, L, I, A.
Cordelia? Where have I heard that name before?...
"Neechan?"
My attention went behind me. I saw Yui holding red roses, wrapped up in black paper. She was staring at me with Kanato holding tightly to his Teddy. My eyes looked at Kanato for his behavior from yesterday was coming into play. Yet, somehow, I feel guilty for slapping him. Even though he did deserve it. I look back at the gravestone, avoiding Kanato's eyes.
"Neechan, what are you doing here?" Yui asked me softly.
I slowly moved my gaze to Yui.
"I could be asking you the same thing. Why are you with Kanato?"
Kanato's grip on Teddy tighten staring at me.
"Kanato-kun asked me to come with him carrying these roses," Yui responded.
I tilted my head confused, "It doesn't seem like a smart idea to be here by yourself with one of the brothers does it?"
Yui flinched looking down guilty. She knew that I warned about being near the brothers and protect herself. She shook her head no.
"I'm sorry Neechan."
I sighed looking at her sad expression while walking over to her. I softly reached for the roses and grabbed hold of them.
"You go back to the house. I'll be here with Kanato."
Without any sense of argument, Yui nodded her head and walked out of the grave sight.
"Akira..." Kanato spoke up. My attention went to him but he didn't look at me. "Do you hate me?"
"No."
Kanato's eyes widen looking up at me. A small smile on my face appeared and my hand reach towards Kanato's cheek. The memory of his smiling face as a young boy filled my head. He was certainly a cute little boy.
"Hate is a word that I refuse to use in my vocabulary. For when you hate something, it means you hate the person, thing, or item with your entire being. Your entire life grew with hating that specific object. I have never hated anyone nor even if I did. Nothing in this world can make me hate something."
Kanato kept staring at me but I let go of him to walk towards the same gravestone. I set the flowers down and stared back at the name.
"...Cordelia..."
"My mother."
Kanato's footsteps walked up next to me staring at the gravestone. My attention reverted back to him.
"Are you interested Akira?" He ask with a smirk. "How she died?"
"That is something for you to decided. If you wish to tell me then I will be happy to hear it, but if you do not wish to then I will wait until you do."
"...I killed her."
My eyes widen completely turning to Kanato. He laughed as his face turn into complete bliss.
"You should have seen her burn Akira! She looked so beautiful! The flames consuming her! The smell of her sweet delicious blood everywhere!" He continues laughing. "Everything was lead up for this! Everything..." His eyes turned to me. "To protect our girl."
My body pulsed with a bad feeling from that gaze of his. His eyes were in pure bliss but that smirk, that manipulative smirk, was a feeling that this wasn't going to end well. With no second thoughts, I ran from the grave sight and into the forest. Kanato's laughing and calling out my name in the distant. I didn't know where I was going but that didn't matter. My feet just kept running. The voice of Kanato kept coming closer, closer.
"Akira."
My eyes widen as his voice was next to my ear. His hands on my arm and my body falling back. The grass in my snowy hair, the leaves flowing behind Kanato, Teddy sitting next to us. The stuff animal looked like he was smiling, enjoying the show. It was a creepy feeling.
"Kanato..."
Kanato smiled, rather smirked, down at me. He looked around the area we were at for his eyes to soften.
"Do you remember this place Akira? It was the same place were you and I met. The day," He turned to look at me. "you fixed Teddy."
My eyes widen as Kanato in front of me turned into that little boy. He was holding me like he is doing now. Except his expression was that of anger. He looked at my right for his anger to get even worst. I gripped on my right to feel something soft and squishy. It was Teddy. Kanato was yelling at me and I could feel tears coming up. His grip on my arms tighten and his yelling got louder in volume.
"I-I'm sorry. Y-Your teddy bear was injured so I fixed it for you."
This made Kanato stop his yelling. His gaze turned to Teddy and noticed the stitching. He looked at me surprised but then his eyes were filled with guilt. He softly let me go and thank me before leaving with Teddy.
I chuckled softly, "You yelled at me quiet loudly."
Kanato smirked leaning down closer, "I never really properly thank you did I?"
"Huh?"
Kanato quieted my question by putting his lips on mine. His grip on my arms tighten, pulling me closer to his cold body. He left my lips to kiss my cheek, neck, then he pierced his fangs into my skin. I flinched from the sudden pain of his teeth. I gripped on his sleeves. I pulled on his sleeves for the fabric to rip a bit but that didn't stop Kanato.
"Something this good and I let it slip away."
Kanato pierced a different spot pulling my upper body off the ground. The feelings of his fangs and his hands were painful.
"K-Kanato... stop. It hurts."
Kanato chuckles happily pulling me even more, moving my head back for my access to my skin.
"I won't let you go Akira. Not now, not ever."
And at that, all he did was drinking my blood until he was satisfied. But the one question I thought in my head:
Why aren't I stopping him?
Kanato stopped his drinking from my blood. He kissed my cheek then disappeared with Teddy. The feel of his fangs, smell, and voice were still in my head. All of him was covering my whole sense. I softly touched my neck feeling his marks.
"Kana-chan. Wait, don't leave me behind! Kana-chan!"
My hand went to my lips feeling him. Some of the tears that were welling up in my eyes came flowing down. My heart squeezed in my pain and the world turned black for a small moment. A quiet, sad moment.
My body was even more sluggish from Kanato's heavy drinking. But crying sure did feel nice. I guess my body could only handle so much stress from the Sakamaki brothers. Not to mention, all these memories that are coming to me in a fast pace. I could feel my body slowly breaking. First, it was feet that refuse to run. Then it was arms, that refused to struggle with them. My body that gave in. My mouth that wouldn't make smart comments but play along and have fun. My eyes drawing towards them. My senses being surrounded to them. All that is left... all that needs to break is my mind.
As I walk back to the house, I stopped at the front door feeling something twisted and dark. My gaze turn to the other side of the house. There was a man standing there. He was watching me intently. His hair was a dark green and his body was covered with a black coat. His red eyes stare intense into my, now, brown eyes. The intense stare was getting too much for me. I quickly turn the knob and open the door.
"Akira..."
The wind blew behind me with my hair lifting up and following the winds pattern. It is strange... for that voice was carried by the wind.
I turned back for the man to be gone. Whoever this man was, he seemed familiar but my body felt disgusted more than anything. Well, I suppose this is something to focus on for another time. I entered the huge estate walking up to my room but heard a noise from the room next to Yui's. This sounded like Reiji but it seemed to be in pain.
I slowly opened the door seeing him siting on a chair. A book was closed on his lap. He was sleeping with a painful expression. Whimper after whimper was coming out of his mouth. The sounds he was making was hurting my heart. I walked deeper into the room and shook on his shoulder softly.
He open his eyes, revealing his blood red eyes. The pain still evident in his eyes but his expression was anger.
"What are you doing here?" Reiji asked annoyed.
"You were having nightmare it seems. I was checking to see if you were okay."
"The smell of your blood is surrounding the whole room." Reiji comments.
I touched my neck to look down at my fingertips. Indeed. I was still bleeding slightly.
"Sorry about that. It seems the wounds are healing slowly from lack of energy."
He touched his shoulder looking down.
"It pleasing than the nightmare I was having."
I knell down to Reiji's height staring at me. He look back at me with slight surprise that I was this close to him without any fear.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
Reiji glared at me for asking that.
"No I am not. You threw your box at me and threw cranberry juice at me. I am not okay by your standards."
"Hey! You rightfully deserved those. You wouldn't get out of my room when I was getting dressed, and you were scaring my baby sister."
"Oh please," Reiji tsked narrowing his eyes even more at me. "You did that on purpose knowing we were still there."
My eyes widen at his accusation for my glare to attack him.
"Huh? I don't remember inviting you to even enter my room. Nor do I remember asking you stay or stare at me!"
Reiji and I stand up glaring at each other.
"Then maybe you should pay attention to your surroundings first like a proper lady should."
"Maybe you should learn the first things about being a decent gentlemen before entering a ladies room."
"Akira!"
"Reiji!"
Our eyes widen staring at each other. I calm down a bit, continuing to stare at him.
"Say... this kind of arguments... doesn't it seem familiar?"
Reiji calmed himself down to return into a proper gentlemen and put on his glasses.
"As I recall from the past, you would argue with me when it involved which books are better to read."
"Ehhhhhhhh. I sound like a book worm."
This made Reiji have a face that question my intelligent and use of wording. He sighed walking over to a tea set in this some sort of laboratory room.
"I'll make some tea." He declares.
I crossed my arms recalling that face he made. I walked towards the shelves that was holding dozens of books. These books were in alphabetical order but what was strange were the kids books. Not just any kids books but fairy tale princess books.
"These books..."
Reiji continued pouring some tea in his cup.
"Those were yours."
I looked at him with wide eyes.
"I believed that real books like science, geography, and travel were more important than fairy tales. But your stubbornness fought with me that fairy tale books brought children hope and imagination to their minds." He chuckles looking out the window, seeming to recalling those times. "You were a small fragile little human girl."
As I stared at Reiji's back, the window showed stars blinking and shining. The moon's light casting down on two children's as they argue.
"This book doesn't get you anywhere in life Akira."
"It doesn't matter if it does Rei-chan. It just brings a child imagination to grow and blossom. We are only kids."
"And how will that help us in the future?"
"Who cares! Worry about being kid Rei-chan. When your with me, all you have to worry about is being a kid got it!"
I chuckle as that small memory suddenly came into my head. The memory was funny, especially seeing Reiji acting like that.
"I remember a certain vampire being so childish about being a kid." I smiled softly looking down.
"Ah..." Reiji put a hand on his forehead. "How idiotic I was? To trust someone that will only leave in the end."
My eyes widen looking up at him. His back was still facing me but his words still stung.
I shouldn't have come here...
"I see. You were indeed idiotic Sakamaki-san. Have a good night."
I bowed walking to the door. I opened the door slight but a harsh slammed made the door shut. The arm around my waist pulled me to his chest and locking the door from his other hand. I watched his hand touch my hair then slowly to my neck. His grip on my neck tighten slightly. I gripped on his wrist with both of my hands.
"Rei... Reiji"
I struggle to say while trying to breathe.
"Akira, by this point, it should be obvious that you are connected to all of us. And because of your connection with us, we seem to be more obsesses."
His hold on my throat got even tighter. My nails digging into his wrist, blood coming out of his body and some into my nails.
"Your entire existence should be mine but instead..." He chuckles darkly not finishing that sentence. "What should I do as punishment for you Akira? Squeeze your neck tightly so you couldn't breathe. Experiment your body to my pleasure."
I couldn't respond. All I could make are noises of the struggle wanting to breathe. Reiji's dark chuckle finally letting go of my neck. I coughed breathing as much oxygen as I wanted. My legs gave out but with Reiji's arm wrapped around me. I didn't fall to the ground.
"Reiji..." I coughed breathing. "...I don't remember why I left... I don't remember why or how I forgotten everything... but..." I slowly turn to look at him. "I know that... I loved every single one of you." I smiled softly at him touching his cheek. "My Rei...chan."
His face was facing out and dark spots were in my eyes. I feel myself falling back, closing my eyes with a surprised Reiji.
His eyes widen staring at a sleeping Akira. He touched her lips then look down at the puncture wounds on her neck from Kanato.
"My Rei...chan"
Her words rang his head over and over. In truth, he was unbelievably mad at her. The one person he allowed to come into his life, vanished without a trace, without a word. Then she returns...
He remembers her bowing down softly with that stupid scared human behind her. Her eyes unafraid to look back at him. Her smart mouth towards Ayato after calling her a Melon. Her actions of throwing a box and the juice at him. The Akira he knew would have never done that. So he concluded that this wasn't the Akira that everyone was so obsesses with. He lied.
"Your entire existence should be mine..." "Akira, by this point, it should be obvious that you are connect to all of us."
He truly believed that this girl wasn't the little girl he fell in love with. This violent girl that would argue, insult, and throw things at him would be the one person he let himself open to. But... she said the name... that one annoying nickname that he always hated but missed so much after she left. The only nickname that they both knew. It was the beginning of their secrets to each other.
"Promise me Rei-chan. That no one will say or know about this nickname of yours. Only I am allowed to say it. This will be the first secret and the start of our friendship."
He looked at the girl before him now, slowly reaching down to her face.
"I promise, Akira."
We'll I hoped you enjoy this story, and if I made any of the characters OOC. Please forgive me for that.
