Aubrey was up early. She was excited and a little bit nervous about what was happening. She was going to be meeting JJ's best friends today. He had assured her the previous day that they would get along because of how quickly she got along with him. But she was still nervous. It had been a long time since she had any real friends since Elena always found a way to turn them against her. Bree just hoped that wouldn't happen here.
Although Bree had been awake for a while, she waited until she heard her siblings head downstairs before she made her way down as well. Her parents were horrible to her, but Aubrey was at least grateful that they didn't starve her, and she got to eat meals when they made breakfast, lunch, or dinner… she just wasn't asked to go out when they went to restaurants and things like that then she had to find her own food which meant ordering food from the grill and picking it up more likely than not. Or that they didn't make her do unnecessary housework and stuff like that.
The Gilbert family sat around the table eating breakfast, Grayson and Miranda were talking to Elena and Jeremy, about their plans for the day while Bree just focused on eating her breakfast, knowing what she was going to do while her parents took Jeremy and Elena out for surfing lessons.
Bree wanted to roll her eyes but held off, not wanting to draw attention to herself. Because that meant the quicker that she could get out of the house once the others left.
After they finished eating the kids were dismissed from the table and they all headed up to their rooms. Bree was looking through her clothes to find something to wear when there was a knock on the closed bathroom door.
Bree opened the door to see her little brother standing there, she let him into the room smiling at him, Jeremy was one of the only ones that Bree could be herself around, "What's up?"
"I'm sorry that Mom and Dad never include you in these things."
She gave her brother a smile, "It's all right Jer, it's not your fault, but I will let you in on something if you can keep it to yourself and not tell Mom, Dad, or Elena about it."
Jeremy nodded, "Promise I won't tell anyone." he meant that he wouldn't tell a soul whatever his sister was confiding in him.
"Okay, so I went exploring while you guys were out yesterday and I made a new friend who is going to introduce me to his other friends today, so I'm okay with not being asked to go for once."
Jeremy smiled at her, "Oooh okay well have fun Bree."
"You too Jer," the youngest sibling hugged his older sister, making Bree smile and return the hug. "I will tell you how it went later tonight, okay?"
"Okay, Bree, I'll see you later tonight then." Then he walked back into his room, closing the door behind him. Bree went back to finding an outfit to wear to meet JJ's friends. She ended up picking a baby blue two-piece bathing suit, with a pair of blue jean shorts and a black tank top with a pair of sandals.
Bree laid the outfit aside and waited for the others to leave. They left about 40 minutes later. Once she knew they were gone, the teenager took a shower and then got dressed in the outfit she had picked out, and she threw her hair up into two pigtail braids to keep it out of her face.
She packed a few things that she thought she might need into her backpack and then headed out the back door and walked down the beach until she ended up at the same spot as the previous night, which is where she was meeting JJ.
Aubrey checked the time and saw she was a few minutes early. They were meeting at 11, and it was currently 10:55.
Five minutes later, she heard "Rey!"
Aubrey smiled as she turned and saw JJ making his way toward her. "Hi JJ."
"How'd you get out of the house unnoticed?" She had told him a bit more about her home life the previous day when they were talking.
"They weren't home when I left, they took Jeremy and Elena out for surfing lessons. Normally it would have bothered me more than it did but not this time because I knew that I was meeting up with you and meeting your friends, so I actually didn't mind not being asked, though learning how to surf would be cool but whatever." Bree slightly rolled her eyes
JJ grinned at her, "Well not to brag or anything, but I happen to be a pretty good surfer, so I could teach you if you really want to learn?"
"Seriously?"
JJ nodded "Seriously."
"Well, if you're willing to teach me, then I won't say no to it."
He grinned at her, "Well it looks like I'm teaching you how to surf then, Rey."
"Awesome! Okay, so since you told me that you didn't want your friends to know how bad it can get with your dad, I thought if you wanted, I could cover that black eye up a little with concealer to make it a little less noticeable."
He gave her a small smile, "Thank you for the offer, but it would probably wash off if we end up in the water today, so I'll just say I got into a fight which they won't be that surprised about and just leave out that it was with my dad."
Aubrey nodded, "okay then, just thought I'd offer."
JJ offered her his arm, "shall we?"
Bree laughed, looping her arm through his, "let's go."
The two set off, arms linked as JJ was leading the way to where they were meeting John B, Pope and Kie.
John B was the first to notice the two approaching, and Aubrey was laughing at something JJ had said.
John B got the other two's attention as the duo grew closer. JJ had a grin on his face as they stopped where the group was hanging out in the sand. "Rey, meet John B, Pope, and Kiara, but we all call her Kie, guys this is my new friend Aubrey, we met on the beach yesterday afternoon."
Bree gave them a shy smile, "Hi… it's nice to meet you all." There was a bit of an awkward silence for a moment before Kie smiled at the girl.
"It's nice to meet you as well, Aubrey."
"You can call me Bree if you'd like. It's what pretty much everyone calls me." the awkwardness eased after that, and then John B noticed JJ's face.
"JJ, what happened to your face?"
"I got into a fight, yesterday."
The looked at Aubrey who shrugged, noticing the looks, "his face was like that when I met him yesterday… and all I know is that he got into a fight, that's what he told me when I asked about it." if he didn't want them to know the truth then who was Bree to say anything when JJ wasn't ready for them to know what really happened?
And so for the rest of the day, the four hung out and by the time it was time to start heading back Aubrey was positive that she had just made her first friends in a long time that could end up being her best friends as well, even if she only got to see them for the summer.
JJ had been right, and she had easily clicked with all of them, JJ had told her they could meet up the next day and he would start teaching her how to surf, which Bree had excitedly agreed to.
Bree had once again gotten home before the others and was lying across her bed when Jeremy knocked on the bathroom door that connected their rooms, Bree let him in and made room for him beside her on the bed.
She smiled softly at her baby brother, "So did you have fun at the surfing lessons, Jer?"
He nodded, "Yeah it was pretty cool, though Elena was non-stop flirting with the guy that was teaching us even though I'm pretty sure he was like 21 or something like that, and Mom and Dad didn't even bat an eye at it, but we're going back tomorrow cause this time we were in the sand the whole time but tomorrow he'll let us actually get out on a board in the water."
Bree snorted giving him a look, "Of course not, Elena is the golden child and can do no wrong ever in Mom and Dad's eyes, but I am glad that you at least had fun."
Jeremy grinned at her, "Enough about my day, how was yours? I want to hear about this friend you mentioned."
A wide smile spread across her face, "It was fun, I met JJ at the same place that we initially met yesterday, and then he took me to where his friends were and introduced us and we honestly all just hit it off easily."
Jeremy smiled at his favorite sister, he liked seeing her happy, and this was the happiest he had seen her in a long time. "I so want to meet this JJ at some point before we go home."
"I'm sure we can figure something out, Jer." the two siblings ended up falling asleep talking about their days, another thing Elena was always jealous of was how close Aubrey and Jeremy were, and it made her mad that no matter what she said about their sister Jeremy never believed it and was always stuck to Aubrey's side.
***
All right, so there will be lots of bashing in this book, Elena and the Salvatore's well maybe not Damon for a change, so if not then he would not have hurt Caroline in this book or anything like that, Bonnie and Caroline as well (might be short term for these two IDK yet) who else would you like to see be bashed?
What are some of the side ships that we want to see in this book?
Also, I just had a really good idea for a twist and I am for sure going to use it which means a new OC will be introduced at some point
