MASS EFFECT THE IMMORTAL SERIES PART ONE: FLIGHT OF THE NORMANDY

Chapter 27: We Have a Mole / Kidnapped!

SYDNEY AUSTRALIA

Atlanta stood once again in the same council room with the rest of the representatives of the council species. This emergency meeting was to be held because there was a breach in security. She sat there in her chair, with Emiko at her left as usual, Nemera on her right and then it went down the line from there. As she looked at the video footage shown on their table and the monitors on either side, the faces around them were grim.

When it ended and the reports came in, each member of the Council wanted nothing more than to exact their rage. That is until Emiko spoke up.

"That is three hits within a few week's time frame. Too close and too much of a coincidence if you ask me," she said, her thick Asian accent clearly heard around the room.

"I agree, there are too many attacks at too close a proximity to be such a mere coincidence. They were a distraction from the real objective," Nemera said from her tank.

"Agreed, I think we have a mole in our midst," Emiko replied to the Serena. The other council members agreed that it was no mere act of random terrorism that stoked such anger. Someone or something is attacking their people and kidnapping Normandy crew members.

"First Dr. Alenkov and now the pilot! What does the enemy want?" asked Sean, his concern clearly evident.

"First things first, we have to get to the bottom of why they want these particular members of the Normandy crew. Already we have others being put on high alert and are carefully watched. But if Emiko is right, we do have a mole. We need to find this mole and deal with them as soon as possible," said Atlanta. She was rarely angry, but it was clear here.

The others all are in agreement. Sean was most vocal about it as he was outraged that something like this could happen.

"Perhaps I can be of assistance," said a voice, and they all stopped their bickering and turned as one to the table.

"Who would dare break into a private meeting!" screamed Atlanta.

"I apologize if I sounded a bit too arrogant. But desperation called for immediate action," said the voice and everyone had the impression it was distorted to resemble something metallic for a reason. That is until the next message came through.

"Who is this?" asked Emiko.

"I am the Enhance Defense Intelligence, the artificial intelligence of the Space Vessel Normandy. I have been monitoring your communications for sometime and provided security when you needed it. I have prevented over 1,247 hacking attempts at your security so far during this meeting. You had over 67,000 spyware programs logged into your system and over forty different spy cameras that were deactivated across your room," the voice – EDI – said to them.

Atlanta stood up, outraged, along with the other members of the council. Someone would dare do this to them? It was a violation of their scared treaty! Her hands gripped the table as she called for security to do a sweep of the room. Sure enough, true to EDI's words, fourty-three hidden cameras and listening devices were found. They indeed had many hacking attempts at their security systems and found all spyware programs in their system. Since EDI introduced herself the council was silent.

"You have indeed proven yourself quite valuable, AI, but tell me, do you go by a shorter name than what you spoke to us?" said Patanjali, the Prothean, who looked none to enthused by the intrusion.

"The Normandy crew members call me EDI." EDI replied to them and so there was a collective sigh of relief on the part of the council.

"So, EDI, your words have spoken truth and you have proven to be trustworthy. Why speak to us now?" Atlanta asked as she leaned forward. Her hands were folded in front of her as she placed her chin on them. Other council members felt the same.

"They were the last instructions of my captain Dr. Elenna Alenkov. She insisted that I inform all Normandy crew members of the dangers that come to them. I am also monitoring their communication lines as well as any media broadcasts throughout the planet to ensure that each crew member is safe. When Dr. Alenkov went missing along with Martha, Martha's instructions to me before she disappeared were very simple and yet effective. She instructed me to inform any allies that the men that attacked their safe house had targeted her specifically. While she is conscious, I am able to track down her omni-tool using Normandy's tracking technology." EDI explained to them.

This got the council excited as they all looked up at the sound of the voices declaration.

"You can track the crew members?" asked Sean.

"Yes. Each crew member carries a device that I can track here on the Normandy. It is quite useful." EDI replied. This caused a stir among the council as they spoke among themselves and each one of them was determined to know what the Normandy could provide for them.

"Do you know the location of Dr. Alenkov, EDI?" asked Emiko, her voice giving away her worry.

"Right now, her current location is unknown. However, once she becomes conscious, the device will instantly do a location finder. It works much like your medical equipment does on yours. It will give a readout of the person's vitals, indicating the person's health. I do, however, have a location on Martha, as she has a different type of onmi-tool on her person," EDI replied.

"What is Martha's location?" asked Sean.

"According to the data that I have received, her location has placed her currently in a city on the eastern continent of Asia. From my data reports it is in a region known as Vietnam, and she is traveling northwards along a long stretch of highway. I have a live satellite feed if you want to view it," EDI said to the shock of everyone else.

"Show us," said Atlanta.

The images on the table changed to that of a satellite zooming in on a target. It went all the way down towards a vehicle going northwards past the city of Da Nang on the Vietnam coast.

"Can you track down the location of where it is heading?" asked Nemeria as she floated in her tank.

"At this time, that is unknown; the road leads to many locations. However, I can use the omni-tool on Martha's wrist to hear conversations and see her location," EDI provided the images. It was strange to see from the eyes of someone who was kidnapped. What they saw shocked them, for right across the vehicle was not only Martha, who was providing the images, but…

"Doctor Alenkov!" they said at once, showing the Russian woman conscious on the bed of the vehicle. There was some chatter to be heard over the wind, and after some quick adjustments by EDI, the voices could be heard.

They were speaking in their own language, but from the frown on Emiko's face, she knows the language.

"Emiko, do you have anything to add to this?" said Atlanta.

"They are speaking in Mandarin, not Vietnamese. Whoever kidnapped them are not dropping them off in Vietnam, they are heading to China," Emiko stroked her chin thoughtfully.

"What baffles me is that they are on the ground and not in the air. I would have traveled by air to make it to my destination faster," Patanjali said from his seat. "Unless there is no nearby airports and this was some sort of a diversion?"

"Air traffic is constantly being tracked by the governments. That means ground travel is the only way to make it to their destination without being seen." Tochtaca said from his seat. His tentacles swayed back and forth to show his agitation.

"What about by boat?" Sean asked them, and the entire group turned to him.

"Why not travel by boat unless that, too, is being tracked," he said.

"Weather patterns indicated passing storm systems. It would not be wise to travel by air or by sea," Nemeria said from her tank.

"Hmm, so they are forced to travel by land to keep their hostages hidden. The only problem is when they are awake, unless they are heavily drugged, which is dangerous to the hostages' health," said Atlanta.

"It is even more dangerous for a biotic to be drugged for long. Due to their high metabolism, if kept under for too long without proper supplements during surgery, such as vitamin induced IV-units, then that person can die," said Sean.

"The metabolic rate of a normal biotic is usually much higher than that of the average human. Hence why they require large amounts of sustenance. Martha, on the other hand, is no longer human by normal standards, due to her extensive exposure to the element zero and to the genetic alteration of the nanites. Her metabolism is not registered on any of your charts. She has a way to control the metabolic rate that a normal biotic can't. But she can't control it for long without sustenance," EDI replied sounding worried.

"You mean to tell us that she can control her metabolism without supplements?" Atlanta said to the table.

"To clarify, she can control her metabolic rate, though it is currently subconscious, as she is not aware of this ability yet. There are many genetic factors that have yet to reveal themselves to her. Such as what happened at the hospital prior to her capture. It is imperative for you to get her back. I fear, if she were threatened any further, then what she had become back at the hospital is only the tip of the polar ice berg," EDI replied which made everyone silent.

"In other words, we have a ticking time bomb on our hands," said Patanjali who looked nervous just thinking about it.

"If she is unstable, then we must get her back and stabilize her. Any threat on her part would be a threat to all of us," Tochtaca said to everyone present. They all nodded their fears to each other about the possibilities of this danger.

"First things first, before we send out any operatives: dealing with the possibility of a mole within our system. EDI, is it? Would it be possible to utilize the Normandy's sensors to help us find the mole that leaked Martha's location to our enemies?" Emiko said to the table. The other council members nodded their heads, wanting to know the truth once and for all.

"It will take me some time to compile an adequate amount of data needed for your request. The person who has been leaking your information has managed to evade me, but I have almost identified them. Give me one hour and I will have your mole, Normandy out," EDI said to them.

When she logged out, they started conversing to themselves their bewilderment of such a discovery.

"An artificial intelligence that far exceeds our expectations is way beyond what we could have imagined!" said Patanjali, surprised that such a thing was possible.

"Patan during the days of the Prothean Empire didn't you have artificial intelligence as well?" asked Sean looking at the Prothean with curiosity.

"No, we had virtual intelligence which is a step or two down from a proper AI. It can do the tasks that it is programmed to do, but it can't obtain self-awareness. It can make decisions, but without a proper hub in which to gain self-awareness, it will only do what it is programmed to do. The Normandy's computer is far more advanced than any of our systems combined. Not only that, but it is also far older than any of us which makes the knowledge that it contains invaluable!" said Patanjali with his fist on the table.

"I agree with the Prothean. We the Rachni, have lived longer than any of the modern races, save for the Protheans themselves. But our ancestors have sung songs of such an intelligence since our race began. If EDI and the Normandy are as old as the carbon dating states then she has more knowledge of our true enemy than all of us combined," Tochtaca replied from his seat on the far side of the table.

"The Reapers are still nearly two hundred years out from the first invasion on our time table. If she has such intelligence, then she might be able to help us fight them when the time comes," Emiko said, which brought the room to further discussions about what to do with the Reapers and their potential mole.

SOMEWHERE NEAR THE BORDER BETWEEN CHINA AND VIETNAM

Martha could feel the ground moving beneath her as she stirred. Slowly, her eyes opened to the world around her, and the heat of the jungle filled her skin with a new-found sense of home.

At least the humidity reminds me of Hawaii. The heat makes me miss the beaches and the jungles of Hawaii Island, Martha thought as she slowly started to regain consciousness. Her self awareness of where she is truly had her mind boggling to know what is going on. But the headache she had made her fully aware that she was not alone.

A groan could be heard from next to her and she looked at the prone figure of Dr. Alenkov. Shocked, Martha nearly yelled, when they hit a bump in the road, making them bounce, interrupting that attempt.

"Dr. Alenkov!" she whispered softly so that her captors couldn't hear her. She struggled with her restraints, but she saw the woman start to come around.

"Dr. Alenkov!" Martha said again, and this time, the Russian woman managed to open her eyes to see Martha in front of her. Surprised, she, too, nearly said something out loud, when Martha made shushing noises. The woman nodded her understanding.

They both looked up to see their captors were busy driving down a long road heading in some random direction. Both of them struggled with their restraints but they both were tied up rather tightly.

"What do you think they are going to do with us?" Martha whispered to her, eyes going between her and them.

"I do not know, but do I know that EDI is probably listening in to this. If I remember correctly, Martha, the omni-tool has a GPS tracking device in it to help EDI keep an eye on us in case we need help," she said to Martha.

Martha's eyes widened with the realization as they hit another bump in the road. Both women kept their mouths shut when they hit the ground. Martha had to pretend that her teeth didn't hurt from the jarring experience.

LATER

They eventually stopped somewhere unknown to the two. All they knew, thanks to Martha's omni-tool, was that they had been traveling north. They only stopped to fill the gas tank and to take a break. Martha and Dr. Alenkov both had to pretend like they were asleep or knocked out. The thugs forgot to inject them with more drugs to ensure they were unconscious. Either that or they knew they were awake and didn't care, confident in their own work.

It was when they neared the border to China that EDI contacted them.

Martha and Dr. Alenkov were both watching the GPS map when the small hologram changed to that of EDI's usual pawn shaped image.

"It is about time you showed up," Dr. Alenkov stated as she whispered. Sensing this, EDI lowered the volume down before addressing the two.

"I apologize for my delay. I had to get assistance from some friends. As we speak, they are tracking your movements. However they cannot act without knowing the destination of your kidnappers." EDI replied.

"I see, so they want to know where we are going before they can free us," Martha whispered and Dr. Alenkov was silent for a few seconds before she replied.

"EDI, just who exactly were you talking to?" she asked the AI, her voice sounded curious and she wanted to know more.

"I had been speaking to the Council of Races and they are trying to triangulate your location. Fortunately, I have been able to triangulate the direction in which you are traveling. You are about to enter a country called China. It seems that whoever wishes your presence is located there," EDI replied which made Dr. Alenkov frown and Martha scared.

"China! I know I've always wanted to visit it for its culture and arts, but not like this?" Martha said looking nervous.

Suddenly there was shuffling from the seat in front and both of them were silenced. It was only when a man came to administer another dose of whatever drug they had that both women knew nothing but darkness.

GREECE

"Well, EDI, your hour is up. Do you have the results of our mole?" Atlanta asked the artificial intelligence that appeared as a chess pawn before them. Its vertical mouth nothing but a straight line for now until…

"Analysis has confirmed a 100 percent match. Location of the person is placed on your satellite feeds now," EDI said to her.

The images on the table and on the walls quickly changed to a three-dimensional map that zoomed in on a location from within Australia. It quickly zoomed in to see a figure standing there with a phone on their ear. The person had obvious dark hair and a light colored hat with dark clothes on. Upon closer inspection, after EDI cleaned up the image, they could see in perfect detail from all angles of the street and even a facial image. The image quickly changed to that of an older man who appears to be Russian in origin.

"Do you recognize the face?" Atlanta said to Sean and the man was in deep thought.

"Allow me to do an analysis on the person's identity, scanning," EDI said from her spot on the table. Another image appeared with faces flashing through at incredible speeds, till at last, a single face appeared.

"Sayanov Rasim Valerianovich, a member of your agency, said to have vanished from all files about ten years ago. Wanted for several accounts of murder, his current employer is unknown. However, I have triangulated that call of his to this region" EDI said as she projected an area located in China. It was the last contact area of Martha and Dr. Alenkov.

"China," said Emiko.

"Do we have agents there?" said Atlanta and Emiko nodded, "China is in our territory so it would be of the Krogan's concern. However, I know Sayanov has eluded us for some time. I think this EDI has proven herself to us."

"Send some of your agents there and see where they are being taken. But send someone whom you can trust. If there is one mole, there are several. I will have people checked out on our lists of agents, and if anyone is a traitor, then they will be dealt with," said Atlanta. She meant business so she was not playing around.

"This traitor will be dealt with and we will find the others," said Patanjali as he began to type in orders on his tablet.

"Nemeria, you are silent in this, is there anything you want to add?" asked Atlanta to the siren next to her.

"I was contacting my people about the whereabouts of a few we have suspected for sometime. It had to do with the submarines that attacked the U.N. fleet sometime ago. When word got out that these terrorists were building something the local governments sent out several Siren to find out more about it. None returned. It was a covert mission, but somehow, during their last transmission, they were ambushed by those same terrorists. It was as if they knew we were there," Nemeria replied to them.

"Then we indeed have several moles in our organization and have to do some cleanup. EDI, since you are still here, maybe you could help us. Since you tracked down one mole, you can help us track them all. How long will it take you to find other moles other than Sayanov?" Atlanta asked EDI.

At first there was silence, and then, in seconds, every screen lit up as names and faces began to appear. They were in fact human, with some exceptions, but mostly human. In fact, one face did appear in front of them; a face they dreaded for sometime.

"Alexandria Wilcox!" hissed Sean as he rose from his seat rage filled his features.

"How is she able to do this and how is she able to know about us?" asked Patanjali.

"She is well connected, that is for sure. Ever since we found out about her inhumane dumping of toxic waste off of India, she seems to be more alert to our presence. It is as if she has a grudge against us." said Emiko.

"I think it is more than that. I think it is a means to get back at Dr. Alenkov. Remember, both of them were at odds for years. Wilcox for the Americans and Alenkov for the Soviet Union. Both of them wanted to kill each other for just serving their countries. Now that Alenkov is retired and serving with the Normandy, that leaves Wilcox still out there in the dark and denied the glory of finding new technology to use for war. Now that she has gone rogue, she has become the most hunted woman in the world." said Atlanta, her face showing a bit of anger when she said this.

"So all of this for revenge? How petty," said Patanjali. His face didn't betray his distrust for all of this.

"But how do you explain her suddenly wanting alien technology?" asked Tochtaca, his tentacles waving around lazily but ready to strike.

"The answer is quite simple. She wants the power such technology brings. Devices such as what the Normandy crew wears is enough for her to gain the upper hand on others. But EDI, is there any protocols as to protect such technology?" asked Nemeria. Her voice sounded concerned, which the glowing entity only acknowledged.

"There are protocols in place. One of them is the fact that the device can't be removed from the owner's body without their cooperation or their owner's death. But even when removed, unless they can deactivate the safety measures placed by the owner, it will be useless to them," EDI replied. Her voice was steady as she explained.

"So it's sort of a DNA-activated safety protocol. So if someone were to be killed and someone else mimics their vital signs and DNA will they be able to get the device off?" asked Emiko thinking of security.

"It would be nearly impossible with your current technology. The DNA identification method goes beyond that of what you would expect in a standard biometric reader. For starters, the type of technology reads thought patterns and particles in your DNA that identify you as you. Each person's DNA is different even if the offspring of that person were to claim the omni-tool. They would not have access unless they have a direct DNA strand of yours. Meaning they have to be a nearly perfect clone to have your omni-tool," EDI replied as the wording began to sink in.

"So that is why she needs both Martha and Elenna alive," said Atlanta as she looked down at the photos of both.

"She needs Alenkov to activate the Normandy, but in order to pilot the ship she will need Martha." Nemeria said from her tank.

"Of course a double joint effort to restart the engines of the Normandy. But why? Is it because she wants the firepower that Normandy has or is there something else?" asked Sean.

Emiko was silent, thinking to herself, but then she turned towards Tochtaca and both Rachni and Krogan came up with the same answer.

"We've read the reports on the Normandy and I believe I know why she wants Dr. Alenkov and Martha both. Alenkov is the ship's commander and Martha is its pilot. Normandy's systems must recognize them both and in order for the ship to function fully it needs its commander. She probably thinks the ship, because of its technology, can't activate without the DNA of both Alenkov and Martha. But one thing I didn't get until now, is why she was specifically targeting the pilot more than the commander. And then it hit me: she wants something that only Martha has." Emiko said to them. And they turned to Krogan in unison, their faces all held a look of bewilderment.

"Martha is no longer human, and she wants the secrets to her transformation. Martha's biotic power, since becoming an alien crossbreed, has skyrocketed. Her transformation into something else has made it possible for her to activate the ship. With that, she could probably use that DNA to get Normandy to obey her commands." Tochtaca said, his voice wavering as his tentacles swung wildly.

However, EDI broke into their conversations. "At least, that is what they believe. However it is more than just Martha's DNA that activates the systems of the Normandy. A pilot's brain wave patterns and thought processes have to match that of the Normandy's crew files. Each crew member's brainwave, psyche, and personality are recorded and analyzed by the ship for process. As well as their DNA, RNA, and atomic structure to ensure that the person can't be faked or copied to fool such systems. And then there is me, who processes the information faster than the speed of light. The Normandy is basically an extension of myself, and I can see and hear what is going on onboard the ship. The ship is as close to a living vessel as can be, every system that functions on that ship is a specimen to be analyzed. It was designed with the purpose of deep space exploration and military scouting missions. Making it the perfect transport and scouting ship possible against many enemies to my homeworld." EDI said to them.

That got their attention and it was Atlanta who asked the serious questions. "So I take it that Normandy is a war ship and not just a transport or scout ship?" she asked.

Realizing her mistake EDI rectified her by saying in response. "The Normandy is a stealth ship designed for war true, but its main purpose is to research and transport important dignitaries and scientists to unexplored parts of the galaxy. However, certain areas are very dangerous, and even the most proficient scientific ships are unable to penetrate certain areas of the galaxy and beyond. So my creators created the Normandy, a ship that is fully armed like that of a war ship. With enough firepower to take our a dreadnought-class star cruiser, but small and stealthy enough to evade sensors. It is a frigate-class stealth ship large enough to transport a dignitary or ambassador to unknown parts of the galaxy in comfort, but offer protection at the same time," EDI said to her.

"A warship that many could want with all the luxuries of a five star hotel, great," said Emiko.

"So Alexandria wants this ship and all the technology that it can offer. That does not bode well for us," said Patanjali.

"No, it doesn't," said Atlanta as she sat up to her full height.

"Alright, we need to come up with a way to both protect the Normandy and her remaining crew. We also need to come up with a solid rescue plan to save both Martha Kahalewai and Dr. Elenna Alenkov. We will adjourn for now and return in a week with some ideas on how we are going to launch a rescue. For now, you are dismissed," Atlanta said and the others walked out of the room leaving her to herself. EDI vanished, leaving Atlanta to her thoughts as she stared out into the Greek countryside.

She could hear the furniture begin to shift to hide the meeting room, turning it into a luxury guest room as the seats sank into the floor and the table disappeared. The wall hangings returned to their normal function as window blinds, bathing the room in moonlight. The moon shone on the Mediterranean sea and she realized that the meeting had gone on longer than she thought.

As she gazed upon the silvery trail of the ocean, her mind going to that of what was shown to her.

A space ship with that much firepower would tip the political scales for everyone. Atlanta knew that she had to be cautious when dealing with this from now on. So she reached for her cell phone to make calls.

SOMEWHERE IN CHINA

Martha awoke once again, this time in a cell. It was dark and damp and the smell of feces and rats filled the room. All she remembered was being pushed into a room after they disembarked somewhere in Vietnam from what Dr. Alenkov told her. But then they did something and the last thing she remembered was something being injected into her systems.

She slowly tried to get up only to be met with some resistance. It was as if something was holding her down. She looked at herself and saw that, firstly she was naked again, and secondly, she had a chain wrapped around her neck and shackles on her limbs.

"Ah, I see she is finally awake," said a very familiar voice over the speakers. Martha looked up to see a television monitor in front of her. A very familiar face staring back at her. She felt cold dread forming into her gut at the sight of Alexandria Wilcox staring at her naked body.

"What….do...you...want?" Martha said slowly, her voice hoarse and raspy from the drugs she had taken.

"Aw, is that any way to greet an old friend?" Alexandria said to her. Martha spat on the floor.

"Go...to...hell!" she said and went into a fit of coughing.

"My, my Martha I can't believe you would be so uncooperative. But then again, you were quite so frustrating to begin with," Alexandria said in a flirtatious tone.

This made Martha growl low in her throat.

"Why strip me naked? Afraid you would find something you like?" Martha mocked her while trying to fight her way out. But she was too weak to do so, and the shackles were sturdy.

"My, my aren't we impatient. You're here because you have something I want. Not only thatyour body can be of use to me. You see, your biology is important to me as well as the anatomy of my other 'guests'. Don't worry about Dr. Alenkov, she will be just fine. You, on the other hand, have something I want, and I plan on getting it, one way or another," she said, and with that, the television went dark.

Martha struggled with her shackles as she tried to get off the bed.

"Alexandria, you damn bitch, get me out of here now! And where is Dr. Alenkov! WHERE IS SHE!" Martha screamed as she fought and just as she was about to call on her powers, the door opened, and a group of people entered, all of them in hazmat suits. One of them seemed to be carrying a syringe of some sort and Martha struggled in her bindings to get out.

But as they injected something into her I.V. all she knew after that was darkness.

SOMETIME LATER

Martha woke to the sights of the same room as before. As her brain started to get back into full function, she looked up in horror as she saw the people around her taking notes of certain things. Her mind processing the reality that has suddenly started to come to her as they were operating on her body.

"Wh...a…?" she said slowly and then she knew no more as someone injected something into her again and she passed out.

SOMETIME LATER

Martha awoke again. This time, she was in alone and saw that she was placed in another room with only one window that was as dark as night. In fact, she would not be surprised if it was a two way mirror. She saw the same speakers, but no television this time, as she fought her weariness. Her mind became clearer as the events of before only came in bits and pieces. She struggled to get up for a few minutes and when she rose, she found to her surprise that she was no longer restrained, but the weakness that she felt was still with her. She was thankfully clothed in a hospital gown and the only thing with her was a collar around her neck.

As she fully got up, she noticed that when she went to put her left hand down, she quickly found herself unbalanced and fell quickly to her side. Pain rose through her as she tried to get up, only to find that something was missing.

In fact, several somethings.

When she looked down at herself, what she saw made her want to scream in horror.

Where her left arm should have been, there was nothing more than a stump. Shocked and full of terror, she slowly reached up with her right hand to feel her stump, only to find that her right hand was also missing. She screamed in fright at the sight of her missing limbs. In fact, the only thing she has was her feet, and as she used her body weight to roll over, she found that she was in a padded room with nothing to help her.

She struggled to lean against the wall and felt pain go through her face. And judging from what she felt, there were bandages on her face once again. She tried to move slowly to get herself upwards. She even felt something in her mouth once the feeling of pain subsided. Spitting it out, it was a cotton ball soaked in black blood.

Shocked, she looked around to see for herself that the two stumps where her arms should have been were soaked through with dark black blood. The reason why she knew this is because she could smell the coppery smell that she normally associates with blood. She fought her way upwards until she was standing, but her balance was off due to her lack of limbs. The pain from the missing limbs was not immediately evident, probably due to the amount of drugs that was probably pumped into her.

Looking around the room, she saw that she was in an isolated padded room. One that had no facilities; that meant no toilets, no sinks, no beds, no water fountains, no doors. The only thing that was there was a two way mirror. One that Martha knew probably had those scientists there watching.

What did they want with her?

Why did they take her and Dr. Alenkov?

Why did they cut her limbs off?

How would she get out of here?

Those questions rang through her mind as she tried to figure things out. She even tried to call up her biotics, to no avail. Cursing, she started to bang her head into the wall, tears flowing through her eyes.

As she cried and screamed her misery. She started to feel pain through her arms, and for the first time, saw blood dripping past the bandages. She wanted to take them off, because she felt something was happening.

Just as she thought this, a door appeared to the right side of the mirror, and a group of people entered. All of them wearing hazmat suits that covered their faces. Martha struggled as two of them restrained her, and one of them pulled out a knife. Fighting her captors, she found that the knife was there to cut off her bandages around her stumps, and she withered in intense pain as it became apparent that her limbs were not going to remain stumps forever.

Falling to the ground because of lack of support, they only stood as she rolled on the ground as the screaming started. She screamed and shouted her pain and at the same time, dark blood oozed across the floor as she felt something moving from her missing limbs. Looking at them, she was horrified when the bleeding stumps began to move and change, as if…

As if it was growing.

She watched as her arms grew back with more pain than she ever thought she could bear. Her screaming in fear filled the room as the limbs grew back like rapid plants.

The process was fairly quick, taking only a few minutes.

To Martha, it took forever.

When it was over, she was breathing heavily and she felt weaker than before due to the loss of blood. But when she looked, her arms were covered in blood, but she saw that her limbs had grown back! Shaking in fright at what had just happened, the people in hazmat suits quickly cleaned her up and dressed her again in a hospital gown.

"Amazing, isn't it!" a familiar voice said.

Martha knew that Alexandria Wilcox was probably behind that two way mirror. Watching her wither in pain and being restrained by scientists.

"What have you done to me!" Martha asked, her exhausted voice sounding more like a growl.

"I haven't done anything to you. Your body is no longer human, and so the alien blood that now flows through your veins responded to an injury that was quite severe. A normal person would not be able to regenerate their limbs like you do. But imagine the possibilities of that regrowth. You are the next evolution of humanity; a mutant hybrid able to regenerate their limbs and heal at exceptional rates. And don't get me started on your biotics," Alexandria said with a willful smile.

Martha had never felt such hate in her life as she started at that mirror.

"Oh, don't look at me like that, Ms. Kahalewai. I am sure Dr. Alenkov enjoyed the show," she said and with that the lights turned on, on the other side and Martha watched two men holding Dr. Alenkov prisoner. Her mouth was gagged and her eyes full of tears. Her face bloodied and bruised as if she was tortured.

"What have you done to her, let her go right now you bitch!" Martha said to her.

"Now, why would I do that? After all, she is a person of high-enough clearance to get onboard the Normandy. And I find myself fascinated by the devices that you carry with you. However, I am frustrated that I can't get them to be removed from your arms. So I decided to remove yours for reference. But it didn't work. So, instead, I found an alternative to your arms and decided to take poor Elenna's." she said as she held up the device on her own arm.

Martha's breath began to race as she saw the device on Alexandria's arm. Shaking with rage, she tried to charge at the mirror, only to be restrained by the men in hazmat suits. Dr. Alenkov had tears in her eyes as she stared into Martha's own. It was frustrating to be unable do anything. The feeling of being powerless against someone so strong. And not being able to fight an enemy left Martha feeling like the world has ended.

"Now, I will try to find the secrets of the Normandy and use the ship to further the goals of humanity even beyond the stars." Alexandria said feeling smug as she smiled at Martha. Martha's hatred grew a hundred fold as she wanted nothing more then to tear at this woman till her body was nothing more then a pile of mush.

"You're insane!" Martha said with a tone of voice that came with the conclusion to it all.

"The Normandy is a living vessel, it will never obey you," said the strained voice of Dr. Alenkov. The woman spoke with a slight lisp, as her lips were cut up and swollen. Martha could see, clear as day, how Dr. Alenkov, despite being afraid, still fought with a fire in her eyes.

"Come, come, Elenna, nothing to be too frustrated about. After all, the Normandy is not alive, it is just a machine, and the knowledge that it contains is priceless. I will extract everything it knows for the prosperity of humanity, and we will rule this galaxy as we see fit," Alexandria said, her gaze turned towards Martha.

"As for you my dear pilot. Thanks to you, we can finally have someone pilot the vessel and get it space bound. The station you discovered will be of great value to us. And you just handed it over to me." she said to her, and Martha could only glare at her with as much hate as she could, before the mirror returned to its normal reflective surface.

Martha tried to fight, but the men held her firmly and threw her to the ground. When they left, all Martha could do was pull her knees up and wrap her arms around herself and started to cry.

So I had this in several parts and I apologize for making it so but several point's of view needed to be addressed all at once before I move on. And again I apologize for it being forever since I wrote but I blame my busy life and schedule. So I bid you all good night and much Aloha from Hawaii.
