Volume I: The Chameleon
Note: This will be the thirteenth chapter of Volume I. This will introduce the first appearance of Dmitri Smerdyakov AKA the Chameleon, he will play as the main villain of this chapter. Peter will still be struggling through the aftermath of his fight against the Kingpin after being accused of assaulting him. He will also struggle with his feelings with Gwen while Liz is taking interest in Peter which could complicate things for Peter as he chooses between them.
Its January 5th and the year is 2022, Spider-Man is still patrolling through the city at night as some civilians are looking up and seeing the webslinger, they hid in their homes in fear after that incident that happened on Christmas Eve when Kingpin accused Spider-Man of assaulting him and trying to kill him, now a days he avoids contact with the police as to not try to get caught.
"It's been days since that night, Wilson Fisk managed to convince the police and the public that I'm a criminal, meanwhile he still out there free and unpunished, secretly continues to harm innocents as the Kingpin and I can't do anything about it." Spider-Man says in his thoughts.
Spider-Man stopped onto a rooftop looking at the city that he swore to protect and still does, despite the public's opinion on him has changed for the worst. Though that's not the only thing he's distracted with, there's something else, or in this case, someone.
"Also there's that night that me and Gwen finally kissed, and I can't stop thinking about her." Spider-Man says in his thoughts.
Spider-Man remember that night on Christmas Eve that he and Gwen finally kissed for real under the mistletoe and on a snowy night. He can't stop thinking about Gwen and their first kiss.
"Neither one of us has talked about that night since, but I can't stop thinking about Gwen. Could it be that she's the one?" Spider-Man says in his thoughts.
Spider-Man snapped back to reality as he heard an alarm tripped nearby, he spotted a liquor store being robbed by a couple of robbers in ski masks. They prepare to drive off in their convertible car. Spider-Man was nearby as he's swinging through the streets.
The robbers spotted Spider-Man coming their way, they pulled out their guns and started shootings bullets at him. They're having a hard time killing him as the bullets kept on missing. He swing down closer and fire off some webs, jamming the barrels. He then webbed them up and left them hanging from a traffic pole as Spidey is driving the car, he turns around and goes back to the store.
Sometime later, Spider-Man returned back to the store and left the car in the lane, he picked up the money the robbers stole and returned it to the owners.
"Here you go, all the money is in there." Spider-Man returned the money.
"Just leave it and go!"
Spider-Man could see the owner is terrified of him, as well as the customers in the store.
"Go away and don't come back."
Spider-Man couldn't do anything as the people are believing what Wilson Fisk said about him on the news. He decided to leave to avoid trouble with anyone. Spider-Man swings away as a lot of people believes him to be a menace like before.
That same night at Fisk Tower, Wilson Fisk smiles as Spider-Man's activities are lowered than before since that night on Christmas Eve, the police and the people are starting to lose respect for the hero as Fisk's approval rating are going up since last month.
"Your approval rating is higher than before, thanks to the donations and interviews you've done to the public, I'd say that your election to become mayor is soon to be a lock." James Wesley says to his boss.
"Perhaps, but unfortunately there is still a potential obstacle in my path to become mayor, Spider-Man." Wilson Fisk says to his assistant.
"I don't see why you have to concern yourself about him? He hasn't been too active these days since you made him public enemy number one." James Wesley says to his boss.
"Because he still knows who I am, he still carries a secret about my other life. Last year, he save a whole lot of people, they still have their doubts about Spider-Man being a criminal. If Spider-Man decides to tell the public about my criminal activities, then I could kiss the mayor's office goodbye." Wilson Fisk is still concerned about Spider-Man.
"You already got him to be a criminal in the eyes of law enforcement. I'd doubt that you can make him do another crime again." James Wesley says to his boss.
"Can't I? Hmm?" Wilson Fisk thinks until he chuckled as he thought of something sinister.
"What is it, sir?" James Wesley is getting curious about his boss's plan.
"I have the most brilliant idea, I know a man with a particular talent that can prove useful to bringing down Spider-Man. Find me Dmitri Smerdyakov at once. Oh, and call Phineas and tell him to make something that can aid our friend in his mission." Wilson Fisk orders his assistant.
James Wesley pulled out his phone and made a call.
Meanwhile on the other side of the world, in Russia. A man is walking down the streets and made it to his house and spotted his neighbor outside.
"Hello!"
Dmitri smiled back at the neighbor as he enters his home. He is all alone now that he decided to pull off his face that is really a mask. His phone rang as he answered it.
"Hello?" Dmitri answered the call.
"Is this Dmitri Smerdyakov?" James Wesley says over the phone.
"Yes, who is this?" Dmitri is getting curious about the caller.
"Merely an employee, my employer has a job for you and the pay is good." James Wesley has an offer for Dmitri.
"I'm listening." Dmitri wants to hear the details about this job.
Sometime later in his house, he already finished his call with Wesley and accepted the job. This mysterious man walks over to his safe and opens it. He grabbed some money and a passport for travel, In fact he got several passports each for different identities, he has a particular talent for imitating another's person identity as a master of disguise.
The next day as Winter break has ended, everyone returned back to school. A lot of students are hanging around waiting until school starts. Peter returned to school as he still got a lot to worry about, though the biggest one of them all is his feelings for Gwen.
"Okay, talk to Gwen." Peter says in his thoughts.
Peter spotted Gwen speaking with Mary Jane, they're speaking about her relationship with Peter.
"He's just a little confused." Mary Jane stopped as Peter is approaching.
"Uh... hi." Peter smiled nervously to Gwen.
Mary Jane walks away giving them some time to themselves as Mary Jane has an feeling what this whole thing is about.
"Hi." Gwen smiled nervously at Peter.
Neither of them talked much but didn't get the chance since the school bell rang as class is about to start soon.
"Ah, class." Peter says to Gwen.
"Yeah." Gwen replied to Peter.
Peter walks in the opposite direction as Gwen is going to class, but he was a bit absent minded that he going the wrong way, he turned around and went inside the school with Gwen.
Meanwhile at Fisk Tower, Wilson Fisk and James Wesley came out of the elevator as they walked to the office, they came inside to see someone sitting at his desk. He's a white faced man in a suit, his face doesn't have a nose, lips, ears, or hair, no one knows what he truly looks like underneath his white mask.
"Wilson Fisk, I've been waiting for you." Chameleon says to his client.
"Dmitri Smerdyakov, I'm guessing that I don't have to figure out how you got past my security." Kingpin has his suspicion.
"I'm the Chameleon, master of disguise, I have my ways of getting inside places well guarded, even impersonate someone to a higher degree." Chameleon says to Kingpin.
"Which is why I called you here. I have a problem that can pose a threat to everything I've built here in the past twenty years." Kingpin shows him a picture of Spider-Man.
"Spider-Man? So you want me to kill him? Is that it?" Chameleon holds the photo.
"No... I don't want you to kill him, I want you to destroy him, taint his good name that the whole city will turn on him, tear down his reputation, that's what I want." Kingpin explained his intentions.
"I'm good at a lot of things, but to frame Spider-Man is not so easy to do." Chameleon says to Kingpin.
"Not to worry, we shall provide you with everything you'll need. Wesley, if you'll please." Kingpin tells his assistant.
Wesley carry the case that contains the new gift that was made by the Tinkerer. He opened it and showed to Chameleon, he was amazed by the sight of his new gift.
"I trust this is to your liking, Mr. Smerdyakov?" Kingpin asking Chameleon.
"This will do nicely." Chameleon loves his new gift.
"I have an event later this afternoon for my campaign, I'd like for you to show up there and do your work." Kingpin says to Chameleon.
"I can do that." Chameleon agreed to the work.
"I should get going and prepare for my campaign... oh and one more thing... put on a good show." Kingpin smiled mischievously at Chameleon.
Chameleon likes what Kingpin has planned for the event, he has something sinister plan for Spider-Man.
Back in Midtown High as Raymond Warren is teaching his class. Peter, Gwen, and Mary Jane are sitting together listening to Professor Warren.
"The final will cover the interactions of various biological systems..." Raymond Warren continues to teaches his class as everyone listens.
Peter looked at Gwen as she turned her head away as she smiled, she turned back to look at Peter, he smiled back as the two are having an awkward moment during class. Mary Jane smiled as she noticed how Peter and Gwen stare at one another.
Unknown to them, Liz Allan is sitting behind them as she noticed how Peter and Gwen are looking at one another, she sensed that there's something going on between them, she couldn't help but be a little jealous of Gwen's relationship with Peter.
The bell rang as class is over and everyone stands up to leave as Raymond Warren reminds them to study.
"Alright, more review tomorrow, but start studying tonight." Raymond Warren reminded the class.
Peter stands up to leave as Liz too follow. Peter later got out of class as he see Gwen and Mary Jane walking together.
"This is ridiculous, just talk to her." Peter says in his thoughts.
Peter was about to talk to Gwen until Liz came out of class and stopped him in his tracks.
"Petey! This biology final is going to destroy my GPA. I'll never pass unless you tutor me again, please." Liz pleaded Peter to help tutor her again.
Peter see that Gwen and Mary Jane already walked away and he lost his chance to talk with Gwen, but he can't deny Liz help in biology.
"Uh... sure. We can do that tonight, say 8 PM?" Peter accepts as he smiles at Liz.
"Petey, you rock." Liz smiled as she locked her arms with Peter as they walk away.
Sometime later after school, Peter walked out as he's got work to do later on at an event that Jameson needs him at. He couldn't find Gwen as she already left, he missed his chance to talk with her.
"Great, missed my chance to talk with Gwen. What's wrong with me? I can take on a cat burglar, a zombie crime lord, and an alien dragon, but I can't seem to tell Gwen about how I feel? Not to mention that JJ needs me at an event where Wilson Fisk is going to talk about his plans for reforming New York, which is a whole of BS. Honestly I'd rather stick to tutoring Liz Allan than to listen to the BS Fisk is gonna say." Peter says in his thoughts.
"Parker!" Flash calls out to Peter.
Peter turns around to see Flash Thompson calling out to him.
"Flash, what do you need?" Peter is curious.
"Did you hear about what happened last month?" Flash pulled out the phone and shown an old news report to Peter.
"Breaking news, Billionaire Philanthropist Wilson Fisk was just assaulted in his office by none other that our own Spider-Man. We shall talk to Mr. Fisk and hear what he has to say."
"Mr. Fisk, how are you holding after the incident that happened at your office?"
"To be honest I was a bit surprised but shaken after surviving such an attack." Wilson Fisk tells the press.
"Do you believe that Spider-Man is capable of such action?"
"No, but this changes nothing, I will not back down from my vision of this city because some vigilante tries to intimidate me. I shall remained planted and unmoved as I push forward to make New York City a better place." Wilson Fisk tells the press.
"There you have it, Mr. Fisk has no intentions of it stepping down after this incident. Though Spider-Man is still at large as the police are working to bring Spider-Man in for interrogation for his actions against Wilson Fisk."
"Can you believe it? The whole city is calling him a criminal!" Flash isn't too happy about all of this.
"And you believe what they say?" Peter is curious about Flash.
"Of course not, none of this makes any sense. Spider-Man has saved a huge number of lives and hasn't even harmed an innocent soul, no one has even died by his hand, he's no killer. I don't understand why Fisk is accusing him of such criminal acts?" Flash is confused by what's happening to Spider-Man.
"To be honest Flash, I don't believe what they're saying on the news. Spider-Man isn't a criminal." Peter stated to Flash.
"How do you know?" Flash says to Peter.
"I just do, but be patient. I'm pretty sure that the truth will come out and Spider-Man's name will be cleared." Peter assured Flash.
"You seem too sure that Spider-Man is innocent." Flash is still puzzled by how Peter still believes in Spider-Man.
"All I can tell you is that nothing is what it seems. He'll find a way to prove his innocence, he still hasn't given up on helping this city even if everyone still thinks of him as a menace." Peter says to Flash.
"I still haven't given up on Spider-Man, because to me he's a hero." Flash smiled as he still believes.
Peter smiled too as there is still some hope in people, some still believes in Spider-Man as a hero. Peter will find a way to clear his good name and take down the Kingpin the right way.
Sometime later this afternoon as Peter Parker arrived at an event as a lot of people are supporting Wilson Fisk for his campaign to become mayor. He works this afternoon as a photographer for the Bugle as Jameson has assigned this job to him. Peter sees Jameson, Robbie, George Stacy, along with other prominent New Yorkers here on this day.
Everyone then sees Wilson Fisk entering being escorted by his person security along with his wife Vanessa. Everyone applauded and welcomes him as he takes the stage for his speech.
"Thank you everyone, thank you. It's a great honor to be here among my fellow New Yorkers on this special day. We have struggled through tough times, in the past year there have been crime syndicates that has been flooding the streets with drugs and guns that have been responsible for a huge numbers of deaths. I know that we still have a long way to go before things get better, but we shall get there together, all of us." Wilson Fisk gives his speech.
Everyone applauded Fisk for his vision of a better New York City, except for Peter who is well aware of Fisk's double life as the Kingpin of Crime.
At the same time as some police officers are guarding the building, an individual has snuck in as he fires off something sticky and pulled the officers away from their spots. This guy managed to neutralize them as he watches Fisk continues to give his speech.
"... This city is my lifeblood, I was born and raised here. This city is my home, a home that I want to protect at all cost. The people in it are like a family to me, and I shall protect my family. That is why I shall work harder than ever before to make New York a better place for everyone who lives here. My name is Wilson Fisk, and I ask the people to vote for me and I give them my word that I will make my vision a reality for everyone! Thank you!" Wilson Fisk finished his speech.
Everyone claps loudly as Fisk gave his speech to the citizens of New York.
"Thank you!" Wilson Fisk bow his head to the crowd.
"Yeah, nice words Fisk, if these good people knew you the way I do, they wouldn't be so quick to applaud." Peter isn't too happy for Fisk.
Every photographer is taking photos of Fisk on stage as well as every cameramen recording the event.
Everyone then got surprised by someone in the shadows punching and kicking the officers guarding the event.
"Who's dare? Face me coward and face a worthy foe!" Wilson Fisk says to the strange individual.
This guy came out of the shadows and revealed himself wearing a red and blue suit very identical to Spider-Man, even Peter is surprised to see someone else looking just like him.
"Spider-Man?" Wilson Fisk acts surprised in front of everyone.
"Last time I checked I was Spider-Man." Peter says in his thoughts.
"Spider-Man? What's he doing?" Jameson is surprised too.
Peter then decided to take some shots of the imposter dressed like him.
"Gotta get into my costume and take out this imposter." Peter having trouble getting through. "Can't... can't get free of this crowd."
George Stacy is among the crowd as he tries to help them out of the building, he then accidentally bumps into Peter Parker getting out with the crowd.
"Peter?" George Stacy is surprised to see Peter here.
Peter is still going out of the building as George turns around and sees Spider-Man still here inside the building, he's even more confused as he already knows that Peter is Spider-Man and yet someone is wearing his suit here.
The imposter is still here as he about to come face to face with Wilson Fisk. A lot of cameramen are still here as they record the event that happening now.
"Wilson Fisk, we meet again." Spider-Man/Chameleon says to Fisk.
"What do you want?" Wilson Fisk puts on an act.
"That's easy, to finish what I started." Spider-Man/Chameleon says to Fisk.
"Do what you want to me, this is between us, leave these people out of it." Wilson Fisk pretends to care.
"As you wish." Spider-Man/Chameleon is about to strike with his fist.
More policemen came in and pointed their guns at this imposter, but he uses a fake imitation of webbing to trap them, he sees more coming in as he then makes his escape out of the building.
"After him!"
The officers chases after the Spider-Man imposter as he's escaping the scene. Sometime later, the real Spider-Man managed to sneak back inside undetected as he hides to sees the aftermath. Only a few officers are hurt by this imposter but Wilson Fisk is unharmed in the process.
"Only Fisk isn't the one who's hurt, that's some coincidence." Spider-Man says in his thoughts.
A few officers came inside until they spotted something hiding in the ceiling, they see Spider-Man watching.
"It's Spider-Man! He's still here!"
"No! Wait! You got the wrong guy!" Spider-Man tries to reason with them.
The officers pulled out their guns and started shooting at him, but he dodged the bullets as he's making his escape. George Stacy sees Spider-Man swinging out the window as some officers are still shooting at him, he could tell that he's the real thing.
"Ceasefire! Stand down!" George Stacy orders the officers.
The officers stopped firing their guns as Spider-Man is swinging away from the scene. George is having doubts about this whole thing Spider-Man is being accused of. He decided to investigate this whole matter on his own for Peter's sake.
At the Parker Residence, Mary Jane is waiting in the bedroom as she heard the news of Spider-Man attacking the event and seriously injuring some police officers.
She turns to the window and sees Spider-Man has returned and climbs inside the room, he took off the mask as it's Peter.
"Peter, have you seen the news?" Mary Jane is worried for Peter.
"More than just see, I was there. But the guy who attack those cops isn't me, I was in the crowd watching it happen." Peter says as he changes into his regular clothes.
"So there's another guy out there dressed as Spider-Man. How bad is it?" Mary Jane is curious about the event.
"Very bad, this guy was dressed like me and injured some cops as me. On top of that, the police started shooting at me the moment they saw me. Only Wilson Fisk isn't harmed in the process." Peter explained what happened out there.
"Must be luck." Mary Jane says to Peter.
"It isn't. I have a feeling that Fisk has had a hand in this. He sent that imposter out there to frame me for the crimes I've never committed. It was bad enough being accused by Fisk but now this whole thing is on camera for the whole world to see." Peter isn't too happy.
"Peter, calm down, you managed not to get killed, you're still here. You'll find a way to clear your name, just need to be patient." Mary Jane calms him down.
"Thanks MJ, I needed that." Peter smiled as he felt better.
Peter's phone rang as he picked it up, it's Liz Allan calling him as Mary Jane too sees Liz's picture on the screen, he answered it.
"Hi Liz!" Peter says to Liz.
"Petey, I hope that you haven't forgotten about tonight." Liz reminds Peter.
"Tonight?" Peter has forgotten.
"I need help for the biology final, you agreed to tutor me, remember?" Liz reminded Peter about tutoring for Liz.
"Oh! Right, of course. I'll be sure to stop by your house to tutor you." Peter says to Liz.
"Thanks Petey, you're the best. I'll see you tonight." Liz flirts with Peter as she hangs up.
"You'll see her tonight, Petey!" Mary Jane imitates Liz as she smiles to Peter.
"Yeah, I promised that I help her for her final. Besides I can't do anything else tonight, not while the police are searching for me." Peter tells Mary Jane.
"Didn't know that you and Liz are close?" Mary Jane says to Peter.
"It's just tutoring, science isn't exactly her specialty. She asked me and I said yes." Peter explained to Mary Jane.
"Hmm, are you sure that's the only reason she asked you?" Mary Jane says to Peter.
"What are are saying, MJ?" Peter is wondering what she's thinking.
"Nothing... Petey." Mary Jane mocks Peter as she smiles.
"Are you making fun of me? Wow, that's hurtful. Usually I'm the one making jokes." Peter is surprised by Mary Jane's behavior.
"Okay, Petey. Just go and help Liz out, maybe tutoring her might get your mind off of today." Mary Jane says to Peter.
"That might not be such a bad idea. I think that I will. Don't wait up for me." Peter got up and left the room.
Mary Jane is getting worried that Peter is getting divided between his work as Spider-Man, helping Liz with her biology final, and the biggest one of them all is his feelings for Gwen that he still hasn't talked to her about yet.
At Fisk Tower as Wilson Fisk is watching the recent news on different channels on different screens about the attacks against him orchestrated by Spider-Man. The whole event was recorded by more than several news networks.
"The event that was supposed to be a great honor has been ruined due to the intervention of Spider-Man who assaulted some police officers assigned to protect Fisk who gave his speech for a better New York."
"Wilson Fisk was lucky that Spider-Man didn't have the chance to finish what he started thanks to the intervention of the New York Police Department. They're still on a manhunt for the vigilante."
"I keep telling everyone from the very beginning, Spider-Man is a menace, a criminal. He believes that he's helping everyone by breaking the law, now he thinks that he's above the law, that kind of thinks is very dangerous power to give to just one man. At last, Spider-Man is showing his true colors." Jameson says on his network.
Wilson Fisk smiled as he's enjoying the whole city turned on the very hero who risked his life to defend.
The door opened as James Wesley is escorting the man in the Spider-Man suit inside the office.
"Bravo, I'd have to say that you're performance tonight was perfect... Chameleon." Wilson Fisk claps his hands for the Chameleon.
"It was my pleasure." Chameleon pulled the mask off and showed his white face.
"Everything went as planned, now that Spider-Man was caught on camera attacking the cops on live television, the city will be in a frenzy, their faith in Spider-Man will fade away." Wilson Fisk likes how his plan his working perfectly.
"About my payment, I think that I deserve a bonus." Chameleon wants to get paid.
"All in good time." Wilson Fisk tells Chameleon.
"Hey, I risked my life doing what you've asked. Now pay up." Chameleon demanded money.
"You will be paid when I say you will be paid. You work for me now and you must never forget that." Wilson Fisk stated to the Chameleon.
"Okay then, I'll play it your way, for now." Chameleon still don't like how Fisk is treating him.
"Good, one more thing. I still need you for another job I've got planned, another target in mind." Wilson Fisk has another job for Chameleon.
Fisk watches the news of J Jonah Jameson outside the Daily Bugle speaking out against Spider-Man. Fisk decided to add more fuel to the fire on Spider-Man, he wants him to burn even more.
Back in Queens at the Allan Residence, Peter is tutoring Liz on the biology final that she needs help studying.
"So the skeletal system needs then muscular system to move the body around, right?" Liz says to Peter.
Peter is bit distracted by his recent event at work.
"Petey? Are you listening?" Liz tries to get his attention.
"Huh? I'm sorry, what were you saying?" Peter snapped back to reality's
"Are you okay? It's like your mind is elsewhere." Liz says to Peter.
"Yeah, just so much has happened with work recently." Peter tells Liz is worries.
"I heard what happened, Spider-Man attacking a campaign and taking out cops. That's terrible." Liz says to Peter.
"He didn't do it, it wasn't the real Spider-Man who did all that." Peter defends Spider-Man.
"How do you know?" Liz is curious.
"I... just do. Someone is framing him by having an imposter dressed like him doing the crimes. People seemed to believe what they see." Peter says to Liz.
"It's kinda like that time my dad took me and my brother to see that magician, he told that not everything is what it seems, it's all about misdirection, you're focused on one thing." Liz has her hand on his right shoulder, getting his attention. "When you should be focusing on the other."
Peter turned back to Liz who smiled at him. She managed to cheer Peter up after the day he had being framed by an imposter.
"That makes sense. Let's hope that Spider-Man will find a way to find this imposter and clear his name." Peter says to Liz.
Peter's phone rang as he sees the caller ID, it's 'Flattop', the name that Peter uses as a nickname for Jameson on his phone.
"Sorry, gotta take this call." Peter says to Liz and answers the phone. "Hi JJ."
"Parker, where were you? You ditched out of the event after Spider-Man attacked Fisk." Jameson says to Peter.
"Sorry, guess I kinda got rattled by what happened." Peter lied to Jameson.
"Whatever, listen I need those photos you took of the event sent to my office ASAP." Jameson wants the photos.
"Right now, but it's only 8:30 at night, can't this wait another time?" Peter doesn't want to go.
"Fine, then don't bring the photos. I was gonna give you a bonus for the photos, but since you're not interested..." Jameson offers more money for the photos.
"Okay, I can stop by the Bugle and drop off the photos." Peter agreed to take the photos to the Bugle.
"Alright, I'll be waiting." Jameson hangs up.
Peter sighed as he turns to Liz. "Sorry to bail out on tutoring you, work stuff and all that."
"Don't worry, I think that I've caught up with much of the final. Thank you for making the time for me." Liz smiled at Peter.
"Of course, glad that I could help. Bye." Peter says his goodbye to Liz as he walks out.
Liz's mother Doris came by and noticed a glow in her daughter's eye when she looks at Peter. Liz sees her mother giving her the look.
"What?" Liz is curious.
"Nothing dear, I haven't seen you like this. Being friendly with Peter." Doris could tell that Liz has something on her mind with Peter.
"He has been helpful to me. I couldn't manage to get through with science without him." Liz gave an excuse.
"That's not what I meant. You chased after him months ago and nearly got yourself hurt in the process. You even defended him from Flash and everyone." Doris says to her daughter.
"What are you saying Mom?" Liz says to her mother.
"Lizzie... are you falling for Peter?" Doris asking Liz if she has feelings for Peter.
Liz blushed as her mother said to words to her. In the past months since last summer, she and Peter have gotten closer than ever. She can't deny that she felt an attraction to him more than ever. She was drawn to his smart and kind nature as well as how good looking he is. She is often jealous of Gwen's close relationship with Peter. She's actually falling for science nerd Peter Parker.
Later at the Daily Bugle, Peter came up the elevator as Betty Brant is working late at night.
"Betty, you're still here?" Peter says to Betty.
"Yeah, this whole Spider-Man thing has got everyone in a frenzy. So it's all hands on deck. Can you believe that Spider-Man suddenly became a criminal?" Betty says to Peter.
"I'm not too convinced that this is Spider-Man that was doing all of this." Peter is defending himself.
"Neither do I. He saved me and everyone's lives last year. There has to be a logical explanation for all of this." Betty still believes in Spider-Man.
"There is, someone is setting him up, trying to make him into the bad guy. I hope that Spider-Man finds a way to clear his good name." Peter says to Betty.
"So do I, but unfortunately everyone caught the footage of Spider-Man fighting off police officers on camera." Betty explained how grim things are to Peter.
Peter and Betty enters the office to see Jameson watching the footages off Spider-Man fighting off the cops and attempting to hurt Wilson Fisk.
"At last, now everyone gets to see the menace he truly is." Jameson sees Peter here. "Parker, did you bring the photos?"
"Yes sir, here you go." Peter hands the folder.
Jameson took it and watched the pictures of Spider-Man in action fighting the cops while attempting to go after Wilson Fisk.
"Finally, we got the proof we need to lock Spider-Man away for life." Jameson smiles as he likes the photos.
"JJ, I'm pretty convinced that this isn't the real Spider-Man that we're dealing with here." Peter tries to defend Spider-Man.
"Are you saying the pictures and the footages are lying?" Jameson says to Peter.
"I mean come on! Anyone can dress up like Spider-Man. This guys looks taller than what Spider-Man looks like, and his moves are a cheap imitation. This is an imposter that looks like Spider-Man." Peter explains to Jameson that this 'Spider-Man' is an imposter.
The lights inside the whole floor or even the entire building shut off, as well as the power. The whole building has gone dark as everyone is panicking.
"What the hell? The fuses gone out?" Jameson is wondering about the power.
Peter's spider sense tingles as he sensed that danger is nearby. He heard noises coming from outside the office, Peter looked out and sees someone dressed as Spider-Man here.
"Peter, what wrong?" Betty is getting worried.
The office door opened as everyone inside sees 'Spider-Man' entering, everyone pulled back a bit.
"It can't be? It's Spider-Man." Betty says worried.
"Betty, it's just some imposter." Peter says to Betty.
"But how would you know that?" Betty is curious on how Peter knows.
"Uh? Yeah, yeah, maybe it really is him." Peter pretends to play along.
"Spider-Man is here? In my building?" Jameson is surprised by the appearance.
"Parker, it's time that we had a talk." Spider-Man/ Chameleon says to Peter.
"Ah? About what exactly, Spider-Man?" Peter says to Spider-Man/Chameleon.
"About those pictures you're always taking of me. I don't like'em" Spider-Man/Chameleon says to Peter.
"Well, I'm sorry." Peter pretends to apologize.
"That's a little better, but it's still not good enough." Spider-Man/Chameleon says to Peter.
The imposter picked Peter up and tossed him hard out the office, Betty and Jameson watched as Peter is lying down on the ground.
"Peter!" Betty went out to check up on Peter.
"Leave him out of this! This is between you and me!" Jameson tries to focused the imposter on himself.
Meanwhile Betty went to check on Peter after being tossed.
"Peter, are you okay?" Betty is worried for Peter.
"Yeah, listen Betty, you have to get out of here and get to safety." Peter tells Betty to run.
"What about you?" Betty is wondering for Peter.
"I'll be fine, I'll go find help, you get to the elevator and go down, now go!" Peter tells Betty to leave.
Betty ran to the elevator as fast as she can and enters it, Peter saw his chance to disappear as he found a utility closet to change. He ran and got inside and pulled the costume from his backpack, he started to change.
Jameson is still stuck in his office with the Spider-Man imposter here threatening him.
"Now that we're all alone, there the question of what to do with you?" Spider-Man/Chameleon threatens Jameson.
"Do what you want, won't make any difference. You are what I always say you are, a menace." Jameson tells the imposter.
"Well then, guess this is where your story ends." Spider-Man/Chameleon says to Jameson.
The Chameleon picked up a sharp pen as he decided to kill Jameson with it until a web line got stuck on his hand and pulled the Chameleon out of the room. Chameleon got back up as he sees Spider-Man here in the flesh.
"What the...?" Jameson is confused by another Spider-Man here, there's two of them.
"Looks like I'm just in time. Heard about someone out there wearing my suit and causing trouble, looks like I found him." Spider-Man says to them.
"There's two of you now!" Jameson is talking to the two Spider-Mans.
"No, only a cheap imposter and the genuine article, even you can tell the difference and know the real thing, Flattop." Spider-Man jokes to Jameson.
"Why you, sack of..." Jameson is pissed by Spider-Man calling him Flattop.
"Ah, hold that thought. I'll get back to you." Spider-Man web the door closed with Jameson inside.
Spider-Man and the Chameleon are both alone and walking around facing each other.
"And who are you supposed to be?" Spider-Man says to the Chameleon.
"I'm Spider-Man." Spider-Man/Chameleon says to Spider-Man.
Spider-Man and the Chameleon face off and fight one another in combat. Spider-Man fired off his webbing at him but he moved out of the way and dodged his attack. Chameleon counters with using his imitation of webbing against Spider-Man.
Spider-Man moved atone avoiding the fake webbing as he picked up a chair and tossed it hard to the imposter. Chameleon got hit and fell back, he quickly got himself back up and sees that Spider-Man has disappeared somewhere in this room.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are?!" Spider-Man/Chameleon calling out to Spider-Man.
Chameleon continues to find Spider-Man somewhere in the room until he didn't noticed that he is coming towards him.
"Crotch!!!" Spider-Man jumps and does the hurricanrana on the Chameleon.
Chameleon fell down hard on the ground as Spider-Man is getting the best of him. Spider-Man is standing up holding the imposter's mask, the Chameleon showed his face to him.
"Wow! I did not expect Spider-Man to look this under the mask." Spider-Man jokes to the Chameleon.
"Impressive, I see now why Kingpin hired me to frame you." Chameleon says to Spider-Man.
"I should've known that he was behind all this. Too bad that his plans has failed now that I have you." Spider-Man says to a defeated Chameleon.
"I think not." Chameleon holds a grenade.
He pulled the pin and tossed it towards Jameson's office. Spider-Man sees that Jameson is in danger of being blown up. He rushed towards Jameson's office as Jameson sees a grenade here about to blow up. Spider-Man quickly web the grenade back to him and tossed it far out the window.
The grenade blows up and the shockwave shattered the windows as Spider-Man took cover with Jameson under the desk. Spider-Man and Jameson got themselves up as they coughed from the smoke of the explosion.
"You alright Flattop?" Spider-Man says to Jameson.
"Alright?!!! Look at this!!! My building is a wreck thanks to you!!!" Jameson is pissed at Spider-Man.
"Wow, you sure have a strange way of saying thank you." Spider-Man says to Jameson.
Spider-Man quickly looked around and sees that Chameleon is already gone.
"Dang, he's gone. Must've slipped out during the explosion." Spider-Man says to Jameson.
"Typical, whenever you show up, trouble always follows. If you thinking that I'm grateful that you've saved my life, well you're wrong!" Jameson says to Spider-Man.
"I'd figured as much. Well gotta go." Spider-Man runs and jumps out the window.
Jameson watched as Spider-Man swings away, but he is left with so much lingering doubts about what happened here, there were two Spider-Men here at the same time.
At midnight as George Stacy is working late at night in his office. His phone rang as it's a blocked number.
"Stacy here." George Stacy answered the call.
"We need to talk, I'm outside the window." Spider-Man says to George Stacy.
George turns around and sees Spider-Man again since his disappearance at Christmas Eve. George opens the window and allows Spider-Man inside his office. George managed to close the door as they're alone.
"Do you know that there's an arrest warrant against you?" George Stacy says to Spider-Man.
"Yes, but I had nothing to do with what happened at the campaign event, that wasn't me." Spider-Man tells George that he's innocent.
"I know, you're innocent." George Stacy believes in Spider-Man's innocence.
"How?" Spider-Man is curious on how George knows.
"I just do, though it's not gonna be enough to persuade the entire police force of your innocence." George tells Spider-Man.
"That's why I'm here, I need you help to find this imposter. I had a run in with him at the Bugle. I managed to pull off his mask and saw his face." Spider-Man says to George Stacy.
"Who is it?" George Stacy says to Spider-Man.
"I don't know, his whole face is white, without any lips, nose, or hair. That's not much to go on." Spider-Man gave details about this imposter.
"Let me see if I can check the database for anyone matching this description." George types into the computer for anything on this guy.
He checks the database for anyone who is a match to this imposter, but there is nothing matching him.
"Nothing, he's not in the police or federal database." George Stacy came up empty.
"Actually he does talk with a Russian accent. Maybe he's from out of the states." Spider-Man gave more details on the imposter.
"I'll check the Interpol database, see if they got a match." George Stacy types and access the Interpol database.
He searches the Interpol database and found a match to the guy they're looking for, a man with a white face showed up in the files.
"Got a match. Is this the guy you saw at the Bugle?" George shows a picture of the Chameleon.
"Yeah, that's him." Spider-Man confirms this is the guy.
"His name is Dmitri Smerdyakov, he's an Russian international who goes by the Chameleon. He's on Interpol's most wanted list, it says here that he's known for getting into places without anyone noticing and impersonating another's identity." George reads the Chameleon's files.
"So he's a master of disguise? He said that Kingpin hired him to attack the Bugle as me." Spider-Man says to George Stacy.
"So the Kingpin is behind all of this, but why attack Wilson Fisk? What does the Kingpin have against him?" George is curious.
"Nothing, this wasn't about Fisk, it was about framing me and turning the whole city against me." Spider-Man says to George Stacy,
"What makes you so sure that Fisk isn't involved against the Kingpin?" George Stacy says to Spider-Man.
"I can't say much, but I'm asking you to trust me." Spider-Man says to George Stacy.
"You know that trust works both ways. At some point of this investigation, I'm gonna need more answers about the Kingpin. You don't have to face everything alone." George Stacy says to Spider-Man.
"Sometimes I do." Spider-Man walks to the window and jumps away.
George Stacy watched as Spider-Man swings away can he's worried for Peter trying to do things by himself, he's getting too focused on his mission as Spider-Man that he stops being Peter Parker more often.
The next day at a cafe as the Chameleon is drinking his coffee disguised as someone normal and looking at the paper from the Bugle titled 'Spider-Man vs. Spider-Man: Two Menaces.' His burner phone rang as it's the Kingpin calling him.
"Chameleon here." Chameleon answered the call.
"Was i not clear?! You were only supposed to threaten Jameson while incriminating Spider-Man! Not for the both of you to show up at the same time for a brawl!" Kingpin isn't happy.
"Spider-Man's appearance wasn't anticipated too soon. I had no idea that he would show up at the Bugle so quickly, no one was supposed to know." Chameleon says to Kingpin.
"Excuses!! Thanks to this unfortunate event, everyone will be doubting everything, there's going to be a lot of questions about the two Spider-Men. Do you have any idea how this could complicate my plans?!" Kingpin still angry.
"That's not really my problem. I did the job and I expect my money now!" Chameleon demands to be paid.
"Forget it, after your recent failure. You don't even deserve a raise, as of right now our business is concluded!" Kingpin hangs up.
"Hey! Hello? Hello?." Chameleon got cut off.
Chameleon is pissed that for all his work for the Kingpin framing Spider-Man, he won't get paid and that is unacceptable to him.
He later got up and walked out of the cafe as he still disappointed with how everything went sour. He then got a call on his burner phone from an unknown number.
"Dmitri Smerdyakov?"
"Who is this?" Chameleon wants the identity of the mystery caller who's using a voice scrambler.
"Not important, but what is that we have an offer for you."
"What's the offer?" Chameleon is curious.
"We can double the pay that Fisk was supposed to be paying you on one condition."
"And that would be?" Chameleon asking this mystery caller.
"Kill Wilson Fisk, but first kill his wife so that he could watch her die, then you finish him off. Do the job correctly and you shall be paid in cash. Interested?"
"Very! I'm in." Chameleon smiled mischievously as he accepted the job for this mystery caller.
At Midtown High around break time as everyone is relaxing and talking. Peter still thinking about on how to to find the Chameleon.
"Now that I know who this imposter is, how am I gonna find someone who can look like anyone? It's like looking for a needle in a haystack." Peter says in his thoughts.
"Petey!" Liz walks over to him.
"Hi Liz." Peter says to Liz.
"Listen, I want to thank you for the tutoring lessons you gave me. I think that learned everything you've taught me and hoped that I did good on the final." Liz says to Peter.
"Anytime Liz, I'm happy to help." Peter smiled at Liz.
Liz hugged Peter closely as Gwen and Mary Jane are sitting far looking at them, Gwen couldn't help but being jealous on how Liz is making her move on Peter.
"Confused, huh?" Gwen says to Mary Jane.
"I suspected Liz has a thing for Peter, now it's confirmed. By the way, what really happened between you two?" Mary Jane is wondering.
"Meaning?" Gwen looking at Mary Jane.
"You two haven't talked much such Christmas Eve. Between us girls, you can tell me." Mary Jane smile with curiosity.
"Okay... we kissed each other." Gwen confessed what happened between her and Peter.
"That's great, you both finally made your move." Mary Jane looked excited for them both.
"Yeah, but we still haven't talked about since it happened." Gwen says to Mary Jane.
"Ah Gwen, you still haven't told him how you felt for him." Mary Jane says to Gwen.
"No, and now someone else is taking interest in Peter. What if I waited too long?" Gwen says to Mary Jane.
"Don't give up, you still need to talk to him. Don't wait up too long, if you do then someone will swipe Peter from you. Don't lose your chance for romance, take it while you still can... Food for thought." Mary Jane gives Gwen some advice.
Gwen still has feelings for Peter as she couldn't stop thinking about him. She continues to watch Peter with Liz, she realizes that she's missing her chance to form a romantic relationship with him.
Peter too noticed that Gwen is watching him, he still thinks about Gwen since that night on Christmas Eve when they both kissed each other. He is still divided between his studies and work as Peter Parker and his superhero life as Spider-Man to try to form a relationship with Gwen. Sometimes he wonders if he should try to have something with Gwen as much as he wanted to. A part of him wants to be honest with her about himself but he still keeps secrets from her like he does to everyone else for their safety. Being a hero can mean having to live a lonely life that can be hard on Peter as he wants more in life than just being a hero.
Sometime later at Fisk Mansion as Wilson Fisk is riding inside the limo, his wife Vanessa awaits him at the front door. He climbs out of the limo and walks up to his wife.
"I'm glad to see that you came home in one piece." Vanessa says to her husband.
"It's going to take more than Spider-Man to stop me from making my vision a reality." Fisk walks inside with his wife.
Unknown to them, someone is hidden watching from the tree, he studies the security around the mansion as Fisk is one paranoid man. He watched from his binoculars as Wilson Fisk is entering his home with Vanessa.
"There you are, you should've paid me when you had the chance. I'll show you that there are consequences for defying the Chameleon." Chameleon jumps off the tree.
Chameleon landed down onto the ground disguised as private security. He managed to walk around the premises without anyone noticing him as he infiltrates in plain sight.
He managed to arrive at the mansion as he opens the door and enters it without any difficulty.
Sometime later after school, Peter is waking out all alone as he feels conflicted about doing everything alone and trying to be more Spider-Man than he is being Peter Parker.
"Should I tell Gwen how I feel for her? I mean since I became Spider-Man, I hardly make time for any of my friends except for MJ who is the only one who know my identity. Living this life means having to face danger and making a lot of enemies, like the Kingpin for example who tried to kill Gwen last September. I can't go through that again, I need to make sure that Fisk is put away for life so that no other innocent life will be threaten." Peter says in his thoughts.
"Tiger!" Mary Jane came running to him.
"Hey MJ, I thought that you would go out with Harry since you two are dating?" Peter says to Mary Jane.
"There'll be plenty of time for that, but right now I'm worried for you." Mary Jane says to Peter.
"Me? But why? I'm doing fine." Peter is confused to her meaning.
"Gwen told me... everything." Mary Jane smiled at Peter.
"'Everything' as in..." Peter is wondering by 'everything.'
"What happened at Christmas Eve between you two, under the mistletoe, everything." Mary Jane said it to Peter.
"Oh... that." Peter blushed as he understands the meaning.
"It's about time Tiger." Mary Jane is happy for Peter.
"Yeah, but should I try to have something with Gwen? I still haven't dealt with Kingpin who is still free and running the criminal underworld under everyone's nose. A lot of people still needs Spider-Man looking out for them." Peter says to Mary Jane.
"Yeah, that's what I'm worried about, you still go out there fighting crime and not make time for Harry or Gwen. It's like you're not really living your life, have you every thought about being Peter Parker more often." Mary Jane says her worries to Peter.
"Sometimes I wish I could just be Peter Parker, but that's not the case for me. I never wanted this life but I can't turn away from it either." Peter explained his reasons to go on being Spider-Man.
"I'm not saying you should." Mary Jane says to Peter.
"But?" Peter says to Mary Jane.
"But you really need to live your life beyond just being a hero, otherwise you're not really living at all." Mary Jane is worried for Peter.
"Hey, you guys need to see this!!!" Flash is telling everyone.
Peter and Mary Jane are curious about what got Flash's attention. They both walked up to him and watched as he holds up his phone showing the news.
"An attack is happening at the Fisk Estate as Spider-Man or someone dressed like him is attacking the residence and injuring Fisk's security. The police are securing the scene as we speak."
Peter and Mary Jane knows that it's the Chameleon that is attacking the estate as Spider-Man.
Peter walked away from the school as Mary Jane follows after him.
"Peter, where are you going?" Mary Jane is catching up to Peter.
"I'm going to stop the Chameleon and save Fisk." Peter explained to Mary Jane.
"What? Are you crazy? This is the man who tried to kill Gwen and threatened our school, he made you into a criminal and you want to go save him?" Mary Jane is against the idea.
"Look, I don't like this whole thing as much as you do. I want Fisk to pay for everything he's done, but the right way. I can't ignore this and allow the Chameleon to do something terrible in my name, I won't." Peter won't back down from his decision.
Mary Jane sighed. "Well, go get'em Tiger."
Peter found a place to change into his costume, he became Spider-Man and swings away to stop the Chameleon.
The Fisk Estate is locked down at the gate as the police are preparing to storm the place to find the imposter. Captain Stacy and Lieutenant Watanabe are in charge of the operation.
"Anyway inside the mansion?" George Stacy asking Yuri Watanabe.
"It's impossible, someone locked down the building and sealed the windows with reinforced steel. We can try to torch the steel door though it's gonna take time." Yuri explained the situation to George.
"Time is something we don't have, there is someone inside dressed like Spider-Man attacking the Fisks. By the time we cut through it could be too late." George is worried for the situation inside.
All the officers then sees Spider-Man coming in as they turned around and pointed their guns at him. George and Yuri sees another Spider-Man here in the flesh.
"Stand down men!" George Stacy orders the officers.
The officers stood down their weapons though they still grip their guns as some of them have doubts for Spider-Man as someone dressed like him attacked some police officers. George walks up to Spider-Man.
"Are you the real thing?" George Stacy is curious.
"I am and I'm here to help." Spider-Man says to George Stacy.
"Prove it. You called me last Christmas and I said Spider-Man, what did you call yourself?" George Stacy says to Spider-Man.
Spider-Man sighed. "Santa Claus."
"It's him, he's the real Spider-Man. There's someone inside the building dressed like you wrecking havoc. We can't get inside." George Stacy explains the situation to Spider-Man.
"But I can, if you trust me." Spider-Man says to George Stacy.
"You know that I trust you. You better get going, the Fisks aren't going to wait for you." George Stacy says to Spider-Man
"Right, time to get to work." Spider-Man went passed the police as they allowed him passage.
Spider-Man is amazed that some people still trust him after the accusation Wilson Fisk made against him.
He arrived at the steel door as he uses his strength to lift the steel door off the ground, the door is proving to be hard to lift but he managed to lift it open briefly for a short time as he quickly got inside as it closes down.
Spider-Man is finally inside the building as he looks around to see the security guards all unconscious on the ground.
"Wow, this Chameleon guy sure made quick work of these guys. I just hope that I'm not too late." Spider-Man runs inside the mansion.
Spider-Man arrived in time to find Wilson Fisk and his wife Vanessa cornered by the imposter. He hides himself waiting for the opportunity to show himself.
"You really shouldn't have crossed me Fisk. After everything I've done for you." Spider-Man/Chameleon says to Wilson Fisk.
"What's he talking about?" Vanessa is clueless to what he's saying.
"Nothing, he's delirious. If you want to take someone's life, take mines. Leave her out of this." Wilson Fisk protects his wife.
"Unfortunately the people who hired me wants her dead first before I kill you. Goodbye dear!" Spider-Man/Chameleon holds an gun.
Wilson Fisk and Vanessa are about to die until Spider-Man webs the barrel of the gun, he swings down and does the dropkick on the Chameleon.
"Spider-Man? Theres two of them?" Vanessa is more confused by another Spider-Man.
Chameleon got himself up and sees the real Spider-Man here.
"You again?" Spider-Man/Chameleon says to Spider-Man.
"Yeah, me again. You truly are a terrible actor at imitating me, copycat. Are you sure you want to take on Spider-Man?" Spider-Man says to Spider-Man/Chameleon.
"Do you?" Spider-Man/Chameleon says to Spider-Man.
Spider-Man and Chameleon are both walking around about to face each other in their identical costumes. Chameleon fires off his fake webbing as Spider-Man jumps up and fires off his own webbing. Chameleon rolls out of the way, Spider-Man is surprised that a guy like the Chameleon is able to hold himself off against him.
Wilson Fisk stays by his wife's side making sure that she's safe from the fight, they watched as Spider-Man and the Chameleon fight one another.
Chameleon picked up a lamp and tossed it at Spider-Man, but Spider-Man ducks down and dodged it, he strikes back with a Martelo de Negativa kick and kicked Chameleon off the floor. The Chameleon sees Vanessa in his sights as he was instructed to kill Fisk's wife first. He grabbed a sharp piece of metal, he tossed at Vanessa until Spider-Man webbed the sharp metal off its trajectory.
"Damn it!" Spider-Man/Chameleon is disappointed.
Wilson Fisk is angry that Chameleon tried to kill his wife, he joined in the fight as he lifts Chameleon off the ground and charges him towards the wall, Chameleon took the full impact of the force, he became out cold after that.
Spider-Man walked up to the Chameleon and pulled off his mask to show his face underneath. He is surprised that Wilson Fisk stepped in to help him but he knew that he was helping protect his wife. Vanessa came by and see Spider-Man just helped saved her life from the Chameleon.
"Are you really Spider-Man?" Vanessa asking Spider-Man.
"Yes, I'm not your enemy. I'm here to help." Spider-Man says to Vanessa.
Spider-Man looked at Wilson Fisk as he could say more to Vanessa but Fisk has another idea. He couldn't risk his wife finding out the truth to this whole mess as he has to do something that he's not gonna like.
"Apparently this is the guy, this Chameleon confessed to being the one who attacked me last month, he framed Spider-Man for the crime he was accused of, isn't that right Spider-Man?" Wilson Fisk had to say in front of his wife.
"Ah... yeah. This was all a big misunderstanding. I'm just glad that no one died." Spider-Man had to play along to clear his name.
The police came in and see the Chameleon on the floor in a Spider-Man costume.
"There's your imposter." Spider-Man says to the police.
"It's true, he confessed to being the one who attacked me, Spider-Man is innocent." Wilson Fisk says to the police.
"Very well, arrest this man." George Stacy orders the officers.
The police took the Chameleon into custody as Spider-Man had to stay behind to explain everything to the police.
"I assume that this means that I'm cleared of all charges." Spider-Man says to George Stacy.
"Of course, with Mr. Fisk's not pressing charges at this time, you're all clear." George Stacy says to Spider-Man.
Sometime later as the police has the Chameleon locked up inside the van, Spider-Man and the Fisks are outside the mansion on the footsteps. George Stacy and Yuri Watanabe passed by an officer who didn't seem suspicious to anyone.
"Thank you so much for saving our lives Spider-Man." Vanessa is grateful to Spider-Man.
"Sure thing, glad that I could help." Spider-Man says to Vanessa.
"Vanessa, why don't you go back and let me talk with the hero." Wilson Fisk says to Vanessa.
"Oh, sure. I'll be inside." Vanessa walks away and back inside the mansion.
Spider-Man and Wilson Fisk are alone as no one is listening or watching.
"I never thought that you would come to save me." Wilson Fisk says to Spider-Man.
"Neither did I." Spider-Man still uncomfortable with saving Wilson Fisk.
"Normally I would have the police arrest you, but you did save my wife's life, so I guess I owe you one." Wilson Fisk says to Spider-Man.
"This changes nothing between us. Next time we meet again, only one of us will go down." Spider-Man says to Wilson Fisk.
"I'm counting on it." Wilson Fisk says to Spider-Man.
Spider-Man and Wilson Fisk still remained enemies despite the fact that Spider-Man saved Fisk's wife and the Kingpin aiding Spider-Man in taking down the Chameleon. The Kingpin has other things on his mind, who hired the Chameleon to try to take him and his wife out, he doubts that it's Spider-Man.
One of the officers opened the back of the van and found an officer stripped of his uniform, tied up and gagged, the Chameleon escaped from police custody.
"The Chameleon is gone! He's on the loose!"
George Stacy and Spider-Man came by to see that officer he saw earlier isn't the one in the van, but the Chameleon in disguise. Everyone looked around to find the Chameleon but he's already gone.
"He's gone." George Stacy says to Spider-Man.
"For now. I have a feeling that our paths will cross again someday." Spider-Man says to George Stacy.
Sometime the next day after school, Flash and some students watched on their phones of the news about Spider-Man proven innocent.
"Last night the criminal known as the Chameleon was confirmed to being responsible for the attacks made against Wilson Fisk by posing as the hero Spider-Man. He was in police custody but recently escaped and is still at large. On the brighter side of things, Wilson Fisk and the police department has dropped the charges against Spider-Man, our hero has been proven innocent."
"I knew it, I knew that Spider-Man was no criminal. Glad that everything worked out in the end." Flash is glad that Spider-Man is innocent.
Peter is glad that his good name is cleared and now he can go back to being the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, but unfortunately he still has a long way to go to taking down the Kingpin.
"Petey!" Liz came to Peter.
"Liz, what is it?" Peter says to Liz.
"Got a 'B' on my biology final instead of a 'D-'." Liz tells Peter.
"Well, a 'B' is better than a 'D', I'm glad that you've passed the finals." Peter smiled at Liz.
"It's all thanks to you. Thank you Petey." Liz gave a kiss on Peter's cheek.
Unknown to Peter and Liz, Gwen was coming by until she see Liz kiss Peter on the cheek. Gwen wanted to talk with Peter but seeing him with Liz Allan, she decided not to say anything and walked home. Mary Jane sees Gwen walking away from the school as she too spotted Peter with Liz.
"Ah Tiger, you really messed up your chance big time." Mary Jane says in her thoughts.
At Fisk Tower, the Kingpin and his assistant watches the news about him dropping the charges against Spider-Man. Kingpin is still uneasy about letting Spider-Man off the hook after his plan to frame him has failed. His whole plan to frame Spider-Man backfired and now he's forced to dropped the charges to avoid suspicion.
"As the candidate for mayor, I must withdraw the charges against Spider-Man for the crimes that Chameleon confessed for framing the hero. I am glad that the real Spider-Man came at the right time and saved me and wife. I am grateful to the hero for all his heroic deeds for this city." Wilson Fisk says on the news.
"Can't believe that your plan to frame Spider-Man for the crimes have failed and that you would drop the charges?" James Wesley says to his boss.
"I had no choice, my wife was there and Spider-Man knew about my double life, he had me cornered, I had to withdraw the charges as to not have anyone asking too many questions. For now, we must play along and leave Spider-Man alone... for now. But this isn't the end of this, one day I shall crush Spider-Man like the bug he really is." Kingpin tells his reasons for dropping the charges.
"But that's not the only reason you're like this." James Wesley says to Kingpin.
"No... Chameleon took a job for someone else, someone has paid him to kill my wife and then me, it sure as hell isn't Spider-Man." Kingpin says his worries.
"Who do you think is behind this?" James Wesley says to Kingpin.
"I don't know, we're dealing with an enemy who has an axe to grind with me. Real question is, who is it?" Kingpin is curious about this mystery enemy.
Somewhere in a mysterious hideout, Hammerhead is speaking to the Chameleon on the phone.
"Spider-Man intervened to stop me, the operation has failed. Do you want me to try again?" Chameleon says to Hammerhead.
"No, for now just go underground until the heat dies down." Hammerhead says to Chameleon.
"Very well, call me if you every need a job from me." Chameleon says to Hammerhead.
"Will do." Hammerhead hangs up the phone.
Hammerhead walked around the hideout with his men until he enters a room and sees someone.
"Looks like the plan to have Kingpin killed has failed, but not to worry. Fisk's days will soon be numbered and you shall have your revenge... boss." Hammerhead says to his boss.
Hammerhead looked at the bed where Silvio Manfredi AKA Silvermane still remains confined and bandaged from his injuries by the explosion from his restaurant courtesy of the Kingpin. He's still alive though he's hooked up to life support to keep him alive and still remained unconscious since then.
