Hey everyone! We begin the start of the GX crew's recovery with Miles! Enjoy!

The second week of the GenX tournament opened with a bang just like before. Students from the four academies clashed. While the Empire of Darkness had taken down the base of the SoL's pyramid, the SoL were being careful so as not to be caught out. But today was the day things changed.

Fiona woke up from a nightmare. Miles had managed to beat Jaden and the SoL took over everything. All chanting about the Light. Then there was nothing. She had gotten up then, but it left her heart racing.

"Just a bad dream...its okay..." Fiona said, getting off her bed.

She got dressed, grabbed her deck box, disk, and walked out of her room in the Yellow Dorm. Sighing, she walked out into the cafeteria. After she ate breakfast, she saw the rest walk in.

"What's the game plan, Professor Jay?" Mindy asked.

"We duel. Find anyone of the SoL and duel them. Sartorius isn't gonna be out on the front lines anymore thanks to gaining the SORA controls." Jason said, frowning.

Jaden nodded, agreeing with the professor. Everyone got up and headed out into the forest, looking for any duelists unlucky enough to come into the area.

Across the island at the White Dorm, Miles woke up. He got out of bed, showered, got his uniform on, walked out with his deck and disk. He saw Salome standing nearby. She too was dressed in her white dorm.

"Sally."

"Miles."

Miles nodded, Ronald and Anthony joining them. The group joined up with the rest. Once they had breakfast went out from the cafeteria into the main hall. There, they saw Aster standing tall, Ian, Jerome, and Amelia standing next to him. Once the last member was in, Aster stood up.

"Greetings everyone. I will keep it short and brief. Master Sartorius has given orders to just duel. We've secured what we need for our ultimate victory." Aster said.

Everyone of the members nodded. The attacks on the SoL from the EoD had depleted their cannon fodder far faster then they were expecting. Still, they had gained some Pros. Miles got his location from the guards and headed out.

Fiona groaned. She had combed every inch of this forest, but no duelists made themselves known. She pressed on. She soon reached a clearing...and saw a figure standing there. Her eyes went wide at seeing the short figure before her.

"Miles." She said, making the boy turn around.

His hair was a pure white, not the blonde she knew and loved. He bleached it to fit in with those...those...those thugs! His eyes were a hard blue, not the soft sky she was used to. He sneered.

"Fiona."

The pair just stared at each other, Fiona's face hardening. No, this was NOT her Miles. This was that sham Sartorius made. She held up her disk.

"Looks like you're my first challenge of the day." Fiona said, deploying her disk.

"Yeah...and you're mine." Miles replied, activating his disk.

The pair drew their opening hands. Fiona looked at Miles who looked back.

Fiona: 8000/Miles: 8000

"Whose gonna start?" Fiona asked, staring him down.

Miles wanted to say him...but there was a small part of him that wanted her to go. It was the right thing to do after all. He may be a member of the Light, but he was still a gentleman.

"You can start."

Fiona started at that. Why would he do that? A small fire of hope bloomed in her heart. Maybe Miles wasn't dead in there after all! She drew her card, looking over her hand. She saw Beat, Sagitta, Filo, and two spells. The new card she had drawn was a trap. She hummed in thought, nodding.

"Alright, I start by playing Beat, Bladesman Fur Hire in attack mode!"

(Beat, Bladesman Fur Hire – LV/***, Attribute/EARTH, ATK/1200, DEF/500, Type/Warrior/Effect.

During your Main Phase: You can Special Summon 1 monster "Fur Hire" from your hand, except "Beat, Bladesman Fur Hire". If a monster "Fur Hire" is Special Summoned to your field while you control this monster (except during the Damage Step): You can add 1 monster "Fur Hire" from your Deck to your hand, except "Beat, Bladesman Fur Hire". You can only use each effect of "Beat, Bladesman Fur Hire" once per turn.)

Beat was a small brown furred deer-like monster. In his paws was a glowing blue sword. One his antlers was a tiny shield. Here, Fiona smirked.

"I use Beat's effect. Since its still my Main phase, I can special summon. So rise up in defense mode, Sagitta, Maverick Fur Hire!"

(Sagitta, Maverick Fur Hire – LV/*****, Attribute/WIND, ATK/1200, DEF/2400, Type/Winged-Beast/Effect.

If this card is Special Summoned: You can inflict 500 damage to your opponent for each monster "Fur Hire" you control with a different name, except "Sagitta, Maverick Fur Hire". You can only use this effect of "Sagitta, Maverick Fur Hire" once per turn. Your opponent cannot target monsters "Fur Hire" you control with card effects, except this one.)

Sagitta was a humanoid raven-like monster. In her hands was a sniper rifle. She knelt down, aiming down the sight of her rifle. She looked at the boy, squeezing the trigger.

Miles hissed, staggering from the rifle shot.

Miles: 7500

"What?!"

"It's Sagitta's effect. When special summoned, she can inflict five hundred points of damage for each Fur hire, other then her, I control. I'll set a card facedown and end my turn." Fiona said.

Miles drew his card, looking over his hand. He smirked at seeing what cards he had. Scrap Shark, Scrap Factory, Level Eater, Dark World Dealings, Scrap Goblin, and the newest card, Supply Squad. Smirking, Miles first played Supply Squad.

(Supply Squad – Type/Spell/Continuous.

Once per turn, if a monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or card effect: Draw 1 card.)

"Then comes Dark World Dealings."

Both Miles and Fiona drew their cards, throwing out a card. For Tails, it was Scrap Goblin. For Fiona, it was Rafale. Miles played Scrap Shark then, following that with Scrap Factory. Shark blew up, Fiona watching him draw due to Supply. He sent a Scrap Soldier to the grave, only to get it back due to Factory. He placed a card facedown and ended his turn.

"Seems a waste of a turn..." Fiona said, drawing.

"Perhaps from your point of view, but the Light shows me the way!"

Fiona cringed. How she HATED hearing that! She looked at the card she had drawn, seeing it was Donpa. She instantly played the new monster. Before she could explain the effect though, Miles revealed his facedown.

"Torrential Tribute!" Both cried out, Miles in delight, Fiona in shock.

The trap card destroyed his Soldier, triggering his Supply Squad and Factory. He summoned another Scrap Shark to the field. All of her monsters died off, making her scowl. So much for that! She ended her turn. Miles drew, playing Scrap Raptor.

(Scrap Raptor – LV/****, Attribute/EARTH, ATK/1400 → 1600, DEF/1000 → 1200, Type/Dinosaur/Tuner/Effect.

You can target 1 monster you control; destroy it, also, during your Main Phase this turn, you can Normal Summon 1 "Scrap" monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set. If this card is destroyed by the effect of a "Scrap" card and sent to your GY: You can add 1 "Scrap Factory" or 1 non-Tuner "Scrap" monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Scrap Raptor" once per turn.)

Raptor lived up its name, a raptor made of various pieces of metal. It snarled at Fiona. He tuned both Raptor to his Shark gaining Scrap Dragon, the monster roaring which made Miles smirk.

"Lunch." Miles said, pointing at her.

The dragon snarled, hot flames charging forward. Fiona winced, feeling the heat sear into her flesh.

Fiona: 6200

"I'll end my turn with another facedown and end."

Fiona drew, looking at her hand. Seeing she had gotten Recon, she instantly played the new monster in attack mode.

(Recon, Scout Fur Hire – LV/**, Attribute/WIND, ATK/1000, DEF/500, Type/Beast/Effect.

During your Main Phase: You can Special Summon 1 monster "Fur Hire" from your hand, except "Recon, Scout Fur Hire". If a monster "Fur Hire" is Special Summoned to your field while you control this monster (except during the Damage Step): You can target 1 Set card on the field; destroy it. You can only use each effect of "Recon, Scout Fur Hire" once per turn.)

Recon was a purple furred cat, a telescope in her hand. Fiona used the effect of Recon to bring out Filo, Messenger Fur Hire. Miles' facedown blew up, making him yelp. Fiona smirked, pointing at Recon.

When a Fur Hire monster was Special Summoned while she controlled it, she could destroy one facedown on the field. Then came Filo's effect, allowing her to Special Summon Rafale from the Grave in defense mode.

The Champion of her deck made its appearance, roaring. She excavated two cards thanks to Raf's effect. She chose one, shuffling the rest back into her deck.

"Now, I reveal it. It's Card of Sanctity, so we both get some cards." Fiona said, drawing four, Miles drawing five.

"Why help me out? You know you'll just lose and finally see the Light." Miles scoffed, checking over his hand.

"SHUT UP! That isn't you, Miles and I know it! You know who you sound like right now?! YOU SOUND JUST LIKE IAN!" Fiona snapped.

Miles froze for a moment. He...sounded like her Ex? No. No, he was better then him! He clenched his fist. No, he mustn't be distracted! Fiona revealed Polymerization, fusing Recon and Filo into Vix, Merc Fur Hire.

(Vix, Merc Fur Hire – LV/*******, Attribute/EARTH, ATK/2500, DEF/2000, Type/Fusion/Warrior/Effect.

2 "Fur Hire" Monsters.

Must be Special Summoned by Fusion Summon. When this card is Special Summoned, add 1 "Fur Hire" monster from your GY to your deck and shuffle it. Once per turn, during your Main Phase, If there is another "Fur Hire" monster in play, Select 1 monster on the field; destroy it, then deal damage equal to its original ATK. When your opponent normal or special summons a monster (Quick Effect): Discard 1 "Fur Hire" monster. Negate the summoning and destroy the monster. If "Kit, Tech Fur Hire" is in play, this card cannot be destroyed. You can only use each effect of "Vix, Merc Fur Hire" once per turn)

Vix was a red vixen, wearing a yellow bowtie in her hair. Her hair was spiked in the front, but a ponytail in the back. She wore a black bodysuit, armed with a pistol in her left and knife in her right. Black combat boots completed the ensemble. Fiona smirked, picking up a card from Grave.

"Let me tell you about Vix here, Miles. She's a merc, all of them are. But unlike the rest, she takes on the most dangerous of jobs. Assassinations, espionage, that kind of stuff. So, when she's summoned and I have another Fur Hire in play, she takes out a monster of yours, like your Dragon." Fiona explained, gaining a card from her Grave.

Vix aimed her gun and fired a single shot. The dragon's head snapped back, blowing up, Miles frowning. He drew a card, Fiona shaking her head.

"But all those points don't go to waste. You take damage equal to its original attack points."

Miles: 4700

"Before you attack, I use my trap, Grave Tuning!"

(Grave Tuning – Type/Trap/Normal.

Activate this trap card during the Main Phase only. Remove from your field or GY, 1 Tuner monster and 1 or more non-Tuner monsters. Synchro Summon 1 Synchro monster whose level is equal to the combined Star Level of the removed monsters. (This summoning is counted as Synchro Summoning.)

"I banish my level five Scrap Soldier with my level five Scrap Golem! Rise up...ATOMIC SCRAP DRAGON!"

The two scrap monsters vanished in a bright flash of light. The massive heads of the three headed dragon rose up, Fiona scowling. There went that! She looked at her single facedown and nodded.

"I reveal my facedown trap, Fur Hire Recruitment!"

(Fur Hire Recruitment – Type/Trap/Normal.

Select 2 "Fur Hire" monsters in your deck and add them to your hand. Select 1 Spell card in your GY and shuffle it into your deck.)

Two cards slid out of her deck. Grabbing them, she took the polymerization spell and shuffled it into her deck. She played Pot of Greed, drawing two cards. Upon seeing them, she placed the cards facedown, ending her turn. Miles drew, looking at the card. Instantly, his eyes lit up in glee.

"Behold, Fiona...White Veil! I equip it to my Dragon!"

Fiona hissed, watching as Atomic became enshrouded with a white aura. With that spell, one of her facedowns just became useless. But not the other one.

"I reveal my facedown, Threatening Roar!"

Miles grunted, the roar from the trap making his monster quake a bit. He snarled, ending his turn. Fiona drew her card, looking at it. Her eyes widened. Fusion Sage! This...this would win the match for her! She switched Rafale into attack mode, Miles blinking.

"What are you doing? My monster is stronger then yours!"

"You forgot something, Miles. Vix works with another merc. I play Fusion Sage, gaining my Polymerization. Now, I play it and fuse my Wiz and Dyna. Meet Kit, Tech Fur Hire!"

The two tailed fox appeared next to Vix who instantly kissed his cheek, making the fox blush and Raf to chuckle. Fiona chuckled as well, looking at Miles.

"You gave me these cards for my birthday. It took a while to get the money but you did it. You felt they would be great additions to my deck and they are. Know why?"

"Oh please, tell me." Miles said sarcastically.

"These two cards...represent us, Miles." Fiona said. "Even when you joined the SoL, even when you mocked and ridiculed me, I still love you. I will NOT stop simply because some parasite who can't take no for an answer is controlling you."

Miles looked ready to kill her. How dare she call the Light a parasite! It freed him! It showed him the darkness! He wanted to remain in the Light, not the Darkness!

I will help Master Sartorius' vision come to pass! Nothing but light and no darkness!

But as he thought on this, he looked at the two foxes. Kit was a bit shorter then Vix, but she was able to pick him up with ease. His mind flashed to the first time she had said yes to a date with him. It had been after she had left Scourge after a rather...brutal fight between the pair. He found her just outside his home, bloody, crying, his parents quickly helping her in. They got her to a hospital that had patched her up.

Throughout everything, he never left her side. He even skipped school a few times to be with her. When she came to a few days later, she was scared of him...scared he'd be mocking and jeering at her. But he never was. He simply sat there, listened to her as she ranted and raved. He helped her overcome her feelings of fear. The trip down the lane brought a warmth back to his heart, a small smile on his face, remembering more and more fond memories.

Suddenly, he froze, shaking his head. No! He was weak before! Now he was stronger! Once again, his mind told him otherwise. He was already strong before the SoL. Hell, he managed to hold his own against Jaden of all people! Ian couldn't even last two seconds against the King.

N-no! I...I am doing this for her own good! He thought, gritting his teeth.

Well, now you really are sounding like her Ex. A new voice said.

Miles snapped up, suddenly finding himself in the darkness. Standing before him was who he was before. His past self had his arms crossed, glaring at his Enlightened self.

What are you talking about?! I am better then Ian! 'Light' Miles shot out.

Not from where I'm standing. He beat her because he was doing it for 'her own good'. You are trying to make her into someone she can never be. All for 'her own good'. Miles replied.

B-But in the Light we will be equal! 'Light' Miles shouted mentally.

You were already equal before all this! You loved her and she loved you! Do you know how much pain and heartache you put her through with your ignoring her?!

Images of Fiona looking forlorn and hurt echoed through Miles' mind. Every time he spoke to her, that look just got worse and worse. Miles felt his heart tearing in two at each image, feeling the tears.

W-what is this!?

It's called Feeling...something you haven't been doing in a long ass time, me. Now...get ready to lose.

Miles snapped up, seeing his Atomic Dragon in crumbling before him.

"W-what!?"

Fiona smirked.

"I used Vix's effect!"

Miles' eyes went wide at that. He didn't forget what the other effect was at all.

Miles: 1300

"N-No!"

"Sorry Miles...but this is for our relationship! Kit! Raf! Attack him directly together!"

The two charged, Miles holding a wrench, Raf drawing his sword. The pair slashed at Miles, making the boy go flying back. He stared up at the skies, shock on his face.

How...how could I lose? I had...the Light.

We both know the reason for that, 'Miles'. The Light fights for a selfish goal. The goal of Sartorius. But the Empire? They fight for a noble goal. They fight...for others who cannot. Now...its time we are one again.

Miles: 0

Fiona rushed up to Miles, seeing him passed out on the ground. She picked him up, sobbing.

"Miles, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry..."

Miles' eyes opened to see his girlfriend. Everything hit him at once and he quickly wrapped his arms around her, tears in his own eyes.

"No...I'm sorry, Fifi. For...everything I said and did while part of that...that..."

Nothing else was said. Fiona grabbed his cheeks and placed a large tender kiss on his lips. He embraced her, running his hands through her hair. The pair separated, tears of joy on both of their faces. Miles reached into his blazer and pulled out a bag.

"Here...you earned these." Miles said, placing the bag in her hands.

Fiona looked at the bag and then at Miles.

"I..." She started.

"I am not taking them back, Fi. You EARNED them." Miles stopped her.

She sighed, knowing how stubborn Miles was gonna be. The boy got up, looking at her. Fiona wrapped his hand in hers, leading him back to the Red Dorm.

Back to home.

EODGX

It was a big celebration for the EoD. They had one of the GX crew back! Miles smiled, seeing everyone celebrating. Fiona stuck to him like glue, but that didn't stop Bonnie and Maurice from hugging him tightly, tears in their eyes. Jaden smiled, standing up next to Jason.

"Alright! We have struck a blow at the SoL! We got back one of ours, Miles!" Jason said, holding up a can of pop.

"This is but the start of their fall. Keep it up." Jaden said, many nodding.

It was far from over...but it was high moral victory.

EODGX

Sartorius listened to the groups talking. Miles had lost. The EoD had him back. He frowned. It was of no consequence...oh, who was he kidding?! The defeat may not have been too important in the short run, but the moral victory the EoD had would make them more bold. He could not allow this to happen! He needed them to drag the tournament on until the agent he had arrived with the prize and second pass of the SORA Satellite! He consulted his Tarots...but found only despair.

Fate was against him once more. Time was of the essence. He looked at the images of the four schools. Perhaps it was time to enact his secondary plan.

Uh oh. Seems Sartorius isn't giving up that easily. But with one of their own back, the EoD has laid the foundation to end the war.
