A New Beginning

[Rio de Janeiro : 04/11/2009]

10:29 P.M.

In the Brazilian city a huge beam of light crossed the city, the authorities were surprised but seeing that nobody was hurt they didn't care. But the beam was a body that fell in the middle of the uninhabited beach.

It was the figure of a young man, perhaps in his twenties, smooth brown skin without any blemishes, muscles of a swimmer, black hair with a streak of white, when his eyes opened a beautiful pair of brown eyes were revealed.

"Okay...I think I'd rather stay in space than suffer this pain in my neck." He said as he stood up completely naked.

"Let's recap, I had an accident, I died, I entered some kind of lottery and now I have super powers related to the Sun, well at least I'm in the least physically dangerous version of the DC Universe, and a very well-crafted one by the way." He said as he straightened up.

"The question is what to do with that power, I could go and try to remain anonymous but I honestly don't want that, maybe do Wonder Woman and be public, but why think so small." He smiled as he looked up at Christ the Redeemer.

"Wait for me world, you will have a very hot surprise." He said as his eyes glowed gold with circular black flecks.

[Palácio da Alvorada : 07:29 A.M.]

The President of the Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Santos, entered his office to start his day, but when he entered he found someone sitting in his chair.

He didn't panic, but narrowed his eyes, in such a troubled world he lived in he knew he couldn't do wrong, or he might end up dying.

"You are very brave to come in here son." The President said while looking at the young man who fell on the beach.

He now wore more formal attire, looking almost like a successful businessman, even if he was unemployed at the time.

"Mr President, you don't have to worry, I'm here with an unmissable offer." The Young Man said as he got up.

"People here say that a lot." The President said without flinching.

"Yes, without a doubt, but this time is different, see my name is Rodrigo da Costa, but you can call me Sunspot, and I want to offer you a deal." He said as he extended his hand.

The President decided that he might as well hear the offer.

[Metropolis: 27/07/2010]

01:00PM

In the center of the city of tomorrow there was a huge building marked Lexcorp, on the roof there was a bald man, wearing an expensive black suit with a red tie, green eyes and a rather serious expression.

He then went to an area of his office and pressed a button, he was accompanied by a woman of average height, long brown hair and a black suit.

That was Lex Luthor and Mercy, and they were now in some sort of bunker, with screens spread around.

"Let the gathering of Light begin." Vandal Savage said leading the meeting.

Among this group were Lex Luthor, Queen Bee, Ocean Master, Klarion, Brain, and Ra's al Ghul, all peak members in different spheres of influence.

They were all together to discuss an issue that has been causing them problems for the past nine months on the South American continent.

"We've been meeting far more often in the last nine months than we have in the last three years. This new nuisance will soon overtake Justice League as our top priority, I'm afraid," Ra's spoke, as others stared at the screen as footage of a man in a yellow suit and with skin completely covered in dark energy with small golden spots.

"That's a bit of an exaggeration, but I'll admit that this new nuisance has made him annoying," said Queen Bee, as Ra's and Savage glared at her. This new superhero's actions were significantly reducing their sources of revenue generation and they were starting to feel it. The others were luckier in the sense that their revenue streams were much less prone to interruptions.

"Mon Ami..." spoke the Brain, "What do we know about this new hero? Is he an alien? Or a metahuman? Or does he derive his powers from a more... let's say exotic source?" the question was a bit loaded, even when Luthor took the queue.

"From what we've observed, his powers appear to be similar to those of the Kryptonian, but in my opinion, we still haven't seen what he's fully capable of. He's shown powers of flight, super strength, super speed, invulnerability to conventional weapons, and the ability to fire blasts. of energy," admitted Luthor, with a grimace.

"The simulations weren't able to predict the upper limits of his abilities, in fact we're not sure, but I think he has even more abilities that he hasn't openly displayed. But the nature of his powers and the energy he emits indicates that his abilities may have a solar origin, although it is not yet conclusive."

"So he might not be an alien but a metahuman?" Queen Bee asked curiously, to which Luthor conceded.

"It's a high probability." He said.

"And are we sure arcane forces are not at play here?" Savage asked with a grunt to which Orm replied.

"So far, we don't see any evidence of that." while Klarion curiously remained silent.

"What do we know about this Sunspot?" Ra's asked after a moment of silence, as Luthor again looked at his notes.

"He first appeared on the scene about nine months ago when he broke up Colombia's Medellin Cartel," Luthor said as the monitor began playing various newsreels and other non-public images they had obtained from their sources. In it, the Latino superhero can be seen running through an army of cartel gunmen and taking them down, non-lethally but effectively.

"The Brazilian government officially declared a superhero of South American origin and Brazilian ethnicity and formally recognized him as a metahuman agent of the Ministry of the Interior of , Brazil, and declared to the UN. Since his arrival on the scene, he has virtually crushed every major drug cartel in South America." Luthor reluctantly shook his head in amazement, for he was sure this was something that couldn't have happened sooner.

Even the Justice League wasn't able to do much, though one could argue that his hands were tied by the UN Charter, something that didn't apply to this newcomer.

"The Medellín Cartel, the Cali Cartel, the Norte del Valley Cartel and the North Coast Cartel have all been permanently dissolved," Luthor pointed out, as he continued.

"All the leaders of the cartels were arrested, their drug-producing refineries were demolished and he even destroyed all stockpiles of drugs, mainly cocaine, produced in Colombia. You may remember the burning that was broadcast to the entire world." Luthor continued, even as reactions among the audience ranged from humor to curiosity to irritation.

After the destruction of the cartels, Sunspot publicly burned all cocaine confiscated from the cartels in a grand ceremony in front of all the world's major news networks, in the presence of Colombian, Brazilian and Argentine government members and ordinary citizens with great fanfare. LexCorp was barely able to keep the servers they maintained to run the Internet from going out of business as a result, just barely.

"13,789 tons, wasn't it?" the Brain asked, even his mechanical voice couldn't hide the inflection of inner humor.

"Estimated street value of 976 billion dollars, of which 37% would be given to Light, which is now lost to us. This has led to a decrease in our operating funds by 6% for this year. It is not a crisis, but still so a problem. For now, all other cartels, throughout South America, have stopped producing drugs for fear of Sunspot targeting their operations. And the only place that still produces drugs is the island of Santa Prisca, which also has our main production facilities for Venom and the Blockbuster formula. And as everyone knows, Brazil has always claimed the island, but has never been in a position to assert it, but now." Luthor stopped, even Savage scowled.

"Now, you believe they're going to move to Santa Prisca," Savage pointed out, to which Luthor nodded.

"I'm sure so President Luiz will not give up when victory against 'The War on Drugs' is literally handed to him on a silver platter. That's a shame in his cap, which not even US presidents can be sure of , boast , and legally and historically, they have all rights to move in Santa Prisca. Our sources indicate that the Brazilian anti-drug task force, Bloco de Busca, is mobilizing in its entirety with the help of the Air Force and Navy Brazilian, and Sunspot was tasked with dealing with metahuman interference, if any." Luthor finished as Savage grimaced.

"And our agents on the island are certainly not capable of mounting a defense against the Latin military, let alone the Sunspot," Ra's pointed out.

"They can barely hold the island against its previous owner's insurgency," he pointed to the conflict between Kobra and Bane.

Although Bane was a freelancer who had worked with the League of Shadows before, he took the attack on Santa Prisca as a personal insult and has waged a high-level insurgency since Kobra took control of the island with the help of the Light. Compared to the level of forces charged against Santa Prisca, the only polite thing that could be said about Kobra was that he was a certified nutcase.

"Then we should cut our losses," came Queen Bee's voice.

"I believe the Blockbuster formula is almost complete, yes?" she asked Luthor, who nodded.

"What are you proposing?" Orm asked with interest, even when Bee spoke in a real way.

"Send our agents to retrieve samples of what we've created so far, and we can set up another facility in Bialya. The facilities on the island are no longer sustainable, why expend effort to maintain them, when the work can continue elsewhere? Only We need to make sure our initial investment isn't lost." she pointed, to which others nodded warily.

"A suitable proposition," Luthor agreed.

"We must speed up this operation before the government of Brazil launches its assault on the island", he pointed out, with which the others agreed.

"Can international pressure be brought to bear on Brazil to stop its attack? Could we force the Justice League to intervene?" Ra's asked, whereupon the others stopped to consider the point.

"Perhaps" Savage said.

"The Justice League is subject to the abhorrent rules to which it has allowed itself to be shackled. But the other nations of the world, I am sure, would not be satisfied with another nation forcibly annexing new territory using metahuman agents, even if they have historical claims to this land. We can play on the fears arising from this course of action," he pointed out to which there were smiles from the others.

"Still, prudence dictates that reinforcements be sent to Santa Prisca, at least until our investment is secured. Sportsmaster can handle all the common threats, but against Sunspot, I fear he will be outmatched." spoke the demon's head, while others considered that point.

"So let's find some expendable metahumans to bolster the island's defenses, and if necessary, we can send in Black Adam and Wotan as a last resort. I'm sure they're more than capable of handling Sunspot." replied Savage, to which the other nodded.

"Very well, by the light." replied Savage and the others followed suit when the conference ended.
