AN: Time for us to provide the answers as to who saved Doreen from Jack. Hope ya'll enjoy.

Squirrel Girl was fading in and out of consciousness. Her body was slick with sweat and blood. The cold agony of steel searing at her knees. She couldn't speak, just groan. And her eyes couldn't focus, though she saw flashes of what would be her moving swiftly down a lit hallway. Yet she was on her back. Then she blacked out.

She later woke up yet still not focused. She saw blurry figures standing over her. They were talking but she couldn't decipher any words, just that their tones were worried. And she saw things in their hands, pointed objects. She gasped in fear and blacked out once again.

Finally, she woke up and had more focus on what was around her. She was in a bed, her body covered in white wrappings and her knees had some kind of material on them. Her knees still hurt yet not to the degree as earlier. A strange feeling reverberated from, though she couldn't tell what the feeling was or why. Then her gaze went to the room itself. While it wasn't exactly like a hospital room, it gave that comforting safe feeling to her. She sighed as she laid her head back, the soft pillow caressing her head gently.

"Anybody catch the number of that Swiss Army Knife that hit me?"

One hand went to her forehead, which was still kind of warm. Her hand went to her side again. She could hear faint whispering from outside the room, just beyond the door. Though she was still groggy from whatever medication she'd been given, so she couldn't tell what they were saying. But then she heard the talking stop. And the door opened.

"And here I thought cats were the only animals with nine lives."

Squirrel Girl looked at her visitor. She groaned and chuckled at the same time.

"Predator."

The man in the armor chuckled as he reached for a hidden button on his armored head, pressed it, and the armor around his head and face was retracted as he spoke.

"We know each other better than that Doreen. You can always call me by my name: Andrew Steele."

Doreen smiled. The door opened again, the other armored figure walking in. Doreen turned to them.

"Aegis." Doreen greeted with another sincere and grateful tone.

The armored figure pressed the hidden button that retracted their helmet, revealing a young woman.

"Doreen, you know you can call me Cynthia also."

Doreen smiled.

"Thank you, both of you."

Andrew and Cynthia pulled up chairs to sit beside their friend. The former spoke first.

"How are you feeling?"

"In pain...though not as much as before. The monster stabbed me in both knees, how are my knees already feeling better?"

"Morphine and a special treatment."

"Special treatment?"

"We've found new ways of repairing damage to ourselves, we've used it on you."

"Where did you find this?"

Cynthia gave a small smile.

"We have been doing research with, and on new tech, finding some can be used to repair wounds."

Doreen nodded at this. She felt that they weren't telling her everything, but she wasn't going to delve deeper as to how they saved her.

"How did you find me?"

Andrew level his arm before her.

"Our suits caught the alert that was transmitted. We were also in the area, heading back from the LA division of the F.B.I.."

"F.B.I.?"

Andrew nodded.

"We were tasked with hunting and capturing a murder suspect on the run. They were soon to be on trial in Missouri with an almost certain guilty verdict. Instead of facing the possibility of either life in prison or the needle, they ran. We managed to track them here. We had just captured them and turned them over to the F.B.I. when our suits detected the alert."

Cynthia sighed.

"It's also my first time in LA, I wanted to see more of the city before we headed back to Florida."

Doreen nodded. Cynthia put a hand on Doreen's arm.

"Who was that guy?"

"I don't know."

Andrew put his arm down.

"How did he possibly beat you?"

"I had him on the ropes for the first half of the fight...but he...he healed himself somehow...turned into a black mist and was even stronger than before. He had shotguns and daggers. He cut me up left and right before you two showed up."

"We'll find him and make him pay for this."

"I have a bad feeling as to what he may be."

Andrew raised an eyebrow at this.

"What do you mean?"

Doreen sighed and filled them in on everything: Raiden, the Mortal Kombat tournament, the threat of Outworld and the Netherrealm (specifically of Shao Khan). She left out no details. Cynthia and Andrew were taken aback at this. Doreen sighed.

"Spider-Man, White Tiger, and Iron Fist were chosen to compete to protect our world. I know they're kicking who's ever butt stupid enough to fight them."

Andrew chuckled.

"I've watched you guys fight on the news. This 'Raiden' chose well...though I think they could've traded Spider-Man for you. Guy's kind of to high and mighty if what I've heard about him is true."

Doreen laughed.

"Maybe."

Cynthia chuckled, shaking her head. Andrew turned from her back to Doreen.

"If you need two extra fighters to help, just let us know."

Doreen smiled.

"I will."

She chuckled.

"So how have you two been? It's been too long."

Andrew and Cynthia smiled at one another before the latter spoke up.

"We've been doing good. All this adventure and excitement has been really fun. Andrew's really showing me more than I ever thought possible."

Doreen smiled.

"You two are good for each other. I gotta ask: fight any super-villains?"

Cynthia groaned.

"No, but I wish we had! We've only been tracking and fighting your common criminals. I wish we could fight some of the villains you and your friends fight every day."

Doreen grimaced at this.

"I don't know about that. We were all put into this weird contest some time back by two cosmic beings, brothers that had some stupid rivalry. Fought everyone from Kraven the Hunter to this huge frost giant monster."

Andrew nodded.

"I remember hearing about that. Wish we could've helped."

"You couldn't have known. Still, Spidey led us to victory."

"You really that much of him, huh?"

Doreen chuckled.

"He's a good guy. Maybe his ego could be smaller, but still a good guy. Glad he's on our side."

Andrew nodded.

"Also heard you had this 'Graduation Day' with S.H.I.E.L.D. A full blown S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, huh?"

Doreen grinned.

"Yup."

"What have you been doing since then?"

"More mundane missions then you might think. Ever since that day and after the Avengers came back from this crazy world created and run by some cosmic maniac, nothing really big has happened...until now."

"What? Chasing down petty thieves isn't fun for you?"

Doreen laughed.

"It has its moments, though I do find myself wanting to be with my friends in New York since I've been spending more time here. Though New York won't be home like LA is."

Andrew nodded. Doreen sighed and groaned.

"I need to contact Director Fury...he needs to know what I encountered...I have a very bad feeling...and not just because he nearly killed me."

Her friends nodded and stood up. They re-activated their helmets and started to walk to the door. Andrew held the door open for Cynthia and she smiled at him before turning to Doreen.

"We'll come back to check on you after you're done talking to your boss."

Doreen nodded and Cynthia exited. Andrew turned to Doreen.

"We'll leave you to it."

Doreen nodded and her friend exited. Doreen grunted as she pulled the device on her wrist closer to her face.

"Contact Director Fury...emergency code..."

The device buzzed and within a few moments, a holographic form of Director Fury materialized above the device.

"Squirrel Girl, what's the emergency?"

Doreen sighed before she told the Director everything.
