Pool Parties and Puppy Rescues Aside…
It was a day after Bowsette and her wife came back home to Bowser's Castle, and it looks like everyone was getting well adjusted to the duo coming back.
"RAAAAAAAAAAH!"
…Well, mostly everyone.
"Of all the miserable…" Roy grumbled, firing Bullet Bills at some target dummies. "WHY! Why did she come back?!" He yelled, storing a Banzai Bill in his blaster and firing it and completely nuking the dummies. "Rrrgh…"
"Will you calm down?" A voice said as Roy turned around and saw Wendy leaning on a wall. "Seriously, normally I don't mind you going nuts but you're getting angrier than Morton when you take a cupcake away from him."
"How can I calm down when that bimbo came back into our lives? Our so-called mother…"
"Which one? We kinda have a step-mother now. Not that I'm complaining, she's actually rather gorgeous for a Human/Boo hybrid. …Definitely needs to get out in the sun more often…"
"Not her! The other one!"
"Why are you getting so worked up over mom coming back?"
"She disappeared from our lives… and all these years later, she comes back as a completely different person!"
"So? Do you have something against humans all of a sudden? I've seen you do arm wrestling competitions in the mansion with Yang and Pyrrha all the time."
"I could care less what she looks like. She could be a tree for all I care and I'd still accept her as my mother… but not anymore."
"Why are you making such a big de-"
"BECAUSE SHE ABANDONED US!" Roy yelled, firing a Bullet Bill at whatever was left of the target dummies. "Then she comes back as a human all these years later and for what… because she was afraid she'd be rejected because of what she became? That's a load of crap! I'm surprised no one else is mad about this!"
"Hey, we're just happy that mom's alive and well. Sure, she's human now, but that doesn't mean we still can't love her… so why can't you?"
"I have my reasons against that freak…"
"Dude, will you chill? Put yourself in mom's shoes for a second. How do you think you'd react if you decided to get plastic surgery on, say… those muscles of yours and the surgeon decides to, oh, I don't know… turn you into a Goomba or an alligator just for the sheer heck of it? I can see where mom's coming from. Her anxiety went through the roof and to make matters worse, that deadbeat husband of hers dropped her because, heaven forbid, we can't accept surprising drastic changes of our spouses."
"But that doesn't excuse the fact that she-"
"Will you get a grip, Roy! She finally had the courage to face her fears head on with some encouragement from our step-mom! It took a lot of guts… and honestly, I'm proud of her! I can care less if she's a Human/Koopa hybrid, she's still our mother. Imagine if she came out looking like, I dunno, an ogre coming out of a cathedral who was gaslighted all her life because someone called her an abomination. I'd still see her as a mom. Our mom."
"She ain't our mother!"
"DAMMIT, ROY! WILL YOU STOP BEING BITCHY?!" Wendy yelled, her patience running thin. "Usually, I'm the bitch around here, but you're being bitchier than I am… and that's not a compliment! Our mother has been hurting for a long time, and she's really sensitive on being called a freak because of what our so-called dad did! If anything, you should be angrier over DAD, not mom! We should applaud mom for getting over her fears… because everyone accepted her! Everyone except you."
"I don't care… she left us over something so trivial. Ugh… I can't believe I'm relating to YANG of all people."
"Huh? What does Yang have to do with this?"
"The other day, I overheard her in the mansion talking about her mother to Ness and Lucas."
"Her dead mother? I've seen her wandering around the mansion and cheering Ruby on. She's actually rather pretty!"
"Not her… Raven. Her mother abandoned her over some dumb reason and didn't say why. Bowsette is the same way."
"How did you know about this?"
"Because no one has an inside voice in the Mansion. Can't blame 'em… that mansion is filled to the brim with hype." He shook his head. "But enough about that… I ain't seeing Bowsette as our mother. Our step-mother is fine, but the one who left us? Get out of here." He said and walked out.
"Ugh…" Wendy pinched the bridge of her snout. "Roy, you're being dumber than Morton right now."
With Bowsette…
Bowsette placed her hands on the sink with a towel wrapped around her chest, looking at herself in the mirror after having taken a shower. She let out a smirk. "Looking gorgeous as always." She said as she reached for her earrings but then spotted something that caught her attention. "For Bowsette" the box would say and then she opened it up to reveal a bottle and a note attached to it.
"Thought you could use some different hair color. - Kamek."
"Aw, Kamek…" She smiled as she looked at the hair dye. "Magic Hair Dye… use this on your hair and it will never fade away." She read and then let out a grin. "Well! Let's try it out then!" She said and then applied it on her hair, humming to herself as she lathered it all over. Once it was fully done, she took a good look at herself. "Orange hair… nice!" She said as she reached for her hair to put it up in a ponytail, but she stopped herself. "Hmm…" She dropped her hair as it fell to her upper back. "Yeah, think I'll stick with this." She said and then grabbed her Leotard.
"…Hmm, I think it's time to update my wardrobe a bit." She mused as she put it on and walked out with a hum, heading into the courtyard where she noticed Lemmy throwing his balls at Boosette, the latter giggling as she bounced them back.
"Oh hey sweetie!" Boosette smiled. "New hairstyle?"
"Yeah." Bowsette chuckled. "I see you're adjusting well."
"Yeah… I'm still not used to being a step-mom, but it's quite fun!" She smiled.
"Oh Rei, seeing you all so dorkishly happy warms my heart." Bowsette said, then felt a tug on her arm as she looked down and saw Larry.
"Hey, Lemmy and I made this for ya." Larry said, handing her a drawing of her and the Koopalings.
"Aww, Larry… it's beautiful!" She smiled and hugged him, kissing him on the cheek in gratitude.
"Aww…" Larry blushed. "Thanks!"
"Ah, I see you found my present for you." Kamek said as he approached her. "I have to say, the orange looks good on you. Though… I never thought I'd see you with your hair down."
"Well, people are confusing me for Peach so I thought I'd let my hair down. Plus, the hair dye helps."
Kamek chuckled. "I suppose you're right."
"Hmm…" Bowsette looked around. "Where's that Torchwick guy and Neo?"
"Ah, those two went off somewhere. I'm assuming it's to look over the Monster Community or maybe he dropped Neo off at the community to hang out with Marnie, oooor… perhaps Neo wanted to go on an expedition and took Roman with her. All he said was "out and about"." He let out a shrug. "I'm sure they'll be fine."
"Yeah… you're right." Bowsette nodded. "So, do you know any good shopping centers around here? I want to expand my wardrobe."
"Don't you have plenty of clothes back at home?" Boosette asked. "…Oh, right, we forgot to pack everything. Didn't think we'd be moving out." She said as Bowsette sheepishly rubbed her cheek.
"Sorry, Rei…"
"Oh no, it's fine! I like the new scenery." She giggled.
"Well, they did open up a new Coconut Mall at Neo Bowser City." Kamek mused. "You can try it there."
"Great! …Uh… where's Neo Bowser City again?" Bowsette sweatdropped. "It's been far too long…"
"I can take you there!" A voice said as Bowser approached her. "I know my way around the place."
Bowsette's eyes sparkled. "Alriiiiight! Now we're talkin'!" She said.
"Come on, I'll take ya shopping." Bowser said as he hopped in his Clown Car as Bowsette hopped in with him as they flew off together.
"…That's surprisingly out of character for him." Kamek said.
"How come?"
"He hates shopping with a passion." Kamek explained.
"I think it's because it's been so long since he's seen his sister, he's willing to spend time with her even if it's something he doesn't like." General Guy spoke up. "Heck, if I had a long lost sibling, I'd do the same."
"Good point." Kamek nodded, watching Boosette picking up a few Mechakoopas that Iggy gave her.
"Aww, they're cute!" Boosette smiled, gently poking one as it opened its mouth and fired a missile. "ACK!"
"Oh! Are you okay?!" Iggy said as the smoke cleared as Boosette's hair was a bit frazzled and soot was all over her pale skin, but she shook it off.
"I'm okay!" She smiled at him. Had I known it would've done that, I would've let it phase right through me. She thought. Oh well!
At the Coconut Mall in Neo Bowser City…
"Man, it's been so long since I've been in this city… they definitely changed a few things." Bowsette said.
"Yeah, it's what happens within a few years." Bowser chuckled as they walked around the mall.
"Lord Bowser?" A Koopa looked at him in surprise. "Never thought I'd see you shopping… let alone be in a mall!"
"Eh, I can make an exception." Bowser shrugged as he watched Bowsette happily going inside a clothing store.
"Who's the hottie?"
"My sister."
"YOUR SISTER?!" He said in surprise. "Uh… well, um… my liege, um… if it's not too much trouble, I'm wondering if-"
"She's already married."
The Koopa slumped a bit. "Oooof course she is… who's the lucky Koopa?"
"A Human/Boo hybrid girl."
"Not again!" The Koopa groaned. "Of all my luck, I always happen to be attracted to a girl, but they always swing the opposite way the moment I ask them out. …I wonder if they're just saying that to get rid of me. Am I coming off too strong?"
"I'm sure you'll get lucky soon enough." Bowser said.
"Hopefully…" The Koopa muttered, and then saw Bowsette coming out with a few boxes of clothing.
"I couldn't just get one… so I splurged!" Bowsette giggled. "Now then, I'm gonna go find me some shoes!" She said and took off running.
"Oh no, she's gone shoe shopping." A Shy Guy said.
"Welp, His Nastiness is gonna be here a while." A Goomba said.
"I'm back~! Only wanted to try out one. I'm not picky." Bowsette said.
"SAY WHAT?!" They yelled while Bowser let out a chuckle as they walked off together.
"…She is the one!" A Shy Guy said.
"She's taken." The Koopa said.
"Aww…"
"…Wait a minute, did Lord Bowser say she's married to a Human/Boo hybrid?" The Koopa folded his arms.
One outfit changing later…
Bowsette moved the curtain, wearing a revealing black tank top with Bowser's symbol up front and was wearing orange short shorts with her new tennis shoes. "Ta-dah~!" She grinned. "How do I look?"
"Like you've never changed at all." Bowser teased.
"Heh, good enough!" She said. "…Hey, you wanna hit the lava pools? It's been a while since I've taken a nice dip in lava."
"I was wondering if you were gonna ask that!"
Meanwhile, back at Bowser's Castle…
Boosette aimed her hand out, as a blue flame appeared in her palm. "Oh wow!" Junior exclaimed. "You have fire too!"
"Technically, Will o Wisps. It's more ghostly than anything." She explained.
"What does it do?"
"Well, we're going by Pokemon standards, then it'll burn you." Ludwig said. "Then again, she's not a Pokemon."
"Hahaha! I wanna see what it does! Use it on me!" Lemmy said.
"NO ME!" Morton said.
"Y-you?!" Boosette said in shock. "Um… I… I don't th-think that's a good idea…"
"We're Koopas, we can take some heat!" Iggy said. "Believe me, we get hit by Fire Flowers all the time. How bad can it be! Hit me!"
"O-okay." Boosette said as she blew the Will O Wisp over, but there was a small breeze that missed him as it went over to Cinder who was walking around.
"Gah!" Cinder yelped. "Mmmph! Why… why am I suddenly feeling paranoid…?! Mmmph… C-can't… move!"
"Oh dear… sorry!" Boosette called out. "My Will O Wisps have different effects. Paranoia, chills, paralysis, burning, sometimes you get the flu… it's always random. It wears off in a few minutes."
Wendy closed her eyes and grabbed Iggy by the shoulders. "Iggy… do you realize that YOU COULD'VE HAD ANY OF THOSE EFFECTS?! YOU COULD'VE DIED!"
"O-oh! My will o wisps don't kill. They just make you slightly paranoid… or… other inconvenient things." Boosette sweatdropped. "Sorry miss!"
"Mmmph… if I had my powers back, you will be sorry…" Cinder growled.
"See? I would've been maimed. I'd still be alive. Bahahaha!" Iggy grinned.
"Ugh… moron…" Wendy groaned. "Do you have anything else, mother?"
"I can float, but I can also-" She turned herself invisible. "Do this!" She said, turning herself visible and then had an idea. "Wendy, sweetie, can you use your rings on me?"
"Huh? Uh… okay." Wendy nodded, throwing rings at her and trapping her… and in an instant, Boosette closed her eyes and made herself intangible, making the rings fall to the ground. "Whoa!"
"Perks of being a Boo." She giggled as she then phased through a wall and then came back out.
"Holy cow, our step mom rocks!" Larry exclaimed.
"My aunt is truly awesome!" Junior said.
"O-oh goodness, you guys…" Boosette said sheepishly. "You're making me blush!" She said and then noticed Roy walking by. "Excuse me for a sec." She said, floating up and floating over to Roy. "Hey Roy, mind if I talk to you for a sec?"
"…Sure, what is it?"
At the Lava Pools…
"Aaaah, this feels so goooood!" Bowsette said, sitting inside the lava.
"Amazing… you're human, yet you still have our immunity to lava."
"Ha! Bro, if I still have my strength, I can still have a resistance to lava." Bowsette said, letting out a relaxed sigh. "This is niiiiice." She said, causing Bowser to chuckle.
"You said it." Bowser agreed, but then a few minutes later, he would notice her looking a bit sad. "Hmm? Is something wrong?"
"Huh? What? Oh, no… nothing's wrong."
"Are you sure? You can tell me."
Bowsette let out a sad sigh. "Well… okay, the thing is… I've just been bothered by something ever since I came back."
"What is it?"
"It's… my status as a mother…"
BGM: Scent of Silence (Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories)
"What about it?"
"It's just… after I was turned into a human… I… wasn't thinking straight and I just left… out of fear that I'd be rejected by everyone. It didn't help that my dead beat ex-husband was responsible for this in the first place. Dude went all "Who would want to be with a freak like you" and it just… got to me. I began to fear that everyone else would have the same effect… I just… left it all. I asked you to watch over my kids in a text and that was the last thing I ever said to you…. And now all these years later, I come back into everyone's lives… and to my surprise, everyone, including my own kids, accepted me. Except for Roy…"
"So is that what's buggin' ya? Roy not accepting you?"
"No, it's not that… it's just…" She began to tear up. "Am I actually a good mother?"
"She ain't a good mom, nor is she a good person." Roy said, sitting by a cliff side next to his step mother.
"What makes you say that? She's a good person."
"Oh yeah? What kind of person abandons their kids over some… plastic surgery gone wrong?"
"Roy… put your mother in your shoes… er… feet. How would you feel if your loved one dumped you because a surgery went wrong? What if there were complications and you had only months… even days to live? How would you feel?"
"I dunno, terrible I guess…"
"Right… and she thought everyone would have done the same because your ex-father wanted nothing to do with her. In fact, he didn't want anything to do with you or your siblings either."
"I never liked him anyway…" Roy mumbled. "But her? She didn't even say anything to us. She left on her own accord!"
"Out of fear."
"Out of not loving us! She ain't a good mom!"
"What? Of course you're a good mother! Why wouldn't you be?"
"I abandoned them… because of some stupid anxiety-driven thing that had me disappear off the grid for too long. What kind of loving mother would do that to their children? Oh wait… I would… because of what happened a long time ago. How can I look them in the eye and tell them I love them… how can I look them in the eyes and say how much I care about them… because look at me, bro… I abandoned them."
"But you came back." Bowser told her. "A real mother would come back to their kids no matter what. A fake mother would leave and never come back. Sure, fear can make anyone do questionable or horrible things… but you got over your fear and you came back."
"Yeah, but that was Rei's idea… not mine."
"True, but perhaps that was the push you needed to get over your fear." He said as Bowsette looked up directly at him in surprise.
"What… what are you saying?"
"I'm saying that you're a good mother, sis." He said.
"…Yeah, but I'm surprised no one looked for me."
"Actually… I did." Bowser said. "When I wasn't cooking up a scheme to look for Peach or kidnapping her, I would look for you the moment I recovered from the Mario Bros… I would go look for you."
"Was this… before RWBY?"
"Yeah. I would search tirelessly for you to try to bring you back. Some of the Koopa Troop assumed the worst, but I never thought you would have died."
"…So what stopped you?"
"I… thought it would have been best to give you space. I figured you would have had a good reason, so I stopped after months of searching, but I never found you."
"Bro…" Bowsette teared up. "You… you went out of your way to-"
"Because you're family… and I wouldn't care if you were transformed into a dolphin, a tree or some guy that hangs out in a cathedral… I would bring you back, because that's what family does."
"I looked everywhere for her." Roy said. "I refused to believe that she was dead. I searched everywhere for her but… I gave up. Uncle Bowser didn't… but even then, I knew that she was gone. I cried myself to sleep sometimes…"
"Roy…"
"And what happens all these years later? She comes back into our lives! …And here I am, surprised that everyone didn't call her out."
"She was scared to come back, but I pushed her along."
"But that doesn't excuse anything! She straight up abandoned us! What kind of mother does that to her kids? She doesn't deserve any love…"
"But she came back!"
"Too little too late!" Roy said. "She's not a mother in my eyes…"
"Roy, you can't just say that about-"
"I can say whatever I want to Bowsette! If she abandoned us, then by all means… I'll give her the same treatment."
"You're going to give her the cold shoulder?!"
"Why wouldn't I? She did the same to us." Roy said and walked off.
"Roy… Roy, wait a minute! Don't turn your back on me, young Koopa! ROY!"
Roy stopped walking and turned to her. "She may be my mom… but she ain't my mother anymore." He said and walked off.
"Roy…" Boosette teared up.
"I was afraid of that." A voice said as Boosette looked up to see Kamek flying down. "You have to forgive him, he's always been a stubborn meathead."
"Oh… if only there's something I can do…"
"He's hurting. He looked everywhere for her and she came back all these years later. This is just how he grieves." Kamek explained. "He has abandonment issues, but he'll come around."
"Are you sure? I'm worried that he won't…"
Kamek let out a chuckle. "Worry not, Rei. I've a feeling Roy and Bowsette will reconcile soon enough.
"…I hope you're right."
Bowsette hugged Bowser, her head buried in his chest. "Thank you… I needed to hear those words…"
"You may have left them, but you came back. To me, you're a good mother."
"Yeah…" Bowsette sniffed a little. "Yeah, you're right." She said as Bowser wrapped his arms around her.
End BGM
Later that night…
Bowsette lay on her back in the bed, looking directly at the ceiling as Boosette floated on in. "Oh, you're early. I thought you'd be haunting a graveyard or something."
"Mmm, I thought about it but I couldn't find anything good to haunt." Boosette explained. "I'll search around tomorrow and see if I can find any Boos around and have ourselves a good haunting party."
Bowsette giggled as she closed her eyes. "Well, in any case… I know I'm a good mother."
"Hmm?"
"Yeah, my bro gave me some loving words about the fact that despite me leaving everyone… I came back." She said. "Everyone accepted me for who I am… well, mostly everyone… Roy…"
"Oh honey…" Boosette wrapped her arms around her. "Roy… I… I hope he comes around… he doesn't see you as a mother."
She let out a sad sigh. "I just hope I can talk some sense into him…"
"You're a good mother, sweetheart… don't let Roy discourage you." She said, kissing her on the cheek. "I'm sure he'll come through…"
"Yeah, I hope so…" She said before dozing off as Boosette would gently caress her hair before falling asleep herself.
Outside…
"Hmm… that's strange." Kamek said as he was standing out at the gate. "Roman and Neo should've been back by now."
"Ah, I wouldn't worry about it." A Hammer Bro said as he was standing guard. "Marnie probably invited them over at her apartment for dinner and they lost track of time. Those two'll be fine."
"Yeah… good point. I don't know why I'm worrying about them all of a sudden."
"They can handle themselves just fine. Why, I'm sure they're on their way back right now."
Meanwhile…
"NEO!" Roman yelled in horror, watching Neo reach out to him before turning into a statue.
"You are next."
Roman turned to their assailant. "You fiend…" He growled as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a Fire Flower, stuffing it inside his cane where he pulled the trigger as flames shot out at the assailant, but the assailant had dodged and fired a ray gun at him point blank. "Argh!" He grunted as his stomach started to turn to stone. "Mmmph!" He grunted as he reached for his scroll and tried to text Bowser, but his hands turned to stone right after as he looked up at the assailant with a glare.
"Sleep tight."
"Rrrgh… when Bowser finds you, I swear… HE WILL-" His head turned to stone as well.
"Muh muh muh muh…" The assailant chuckled and reached into a walkie talkie. "Two villains down."
"Excellent! Now let's make sure the other villains won't get in the way of our tasty plan!"
"As you wish." The assailant nodded and then walked off, chuckling to himself while leaving Roman and Neo alone.
Originally, this was gonna be the previous chapter and Gloria reuniting with her mother in this chapter, but I was still working out some of the kinks on this one, so I decided to switch them around.
Anyway, I have a new favorite Disney movie! It's currently my second favorite movie (Nothing is ever gonna top Mulan as my all time favorite. Not even that filthy live action remake.) and MAN, was it gorgeous. I highly recommend Raya and the Last Dragon!
...Now what was I also gonna talk about... *looks at Pyra and Mythra* Oh right!
Heck of a learning curve, Pyra is slower than molasses (Like seriously, she's slower than I thought!), Mythra is all over the place (One of my friends said that she's almost as fast as freakin' SONIC.) but once you get them figured out, you can do all sorts of fun shenanigans!
Who do you usually go with first? I thought i'd stick with Pyra (Since i'm completely biased with fire and all. It's one of my all time favorite elements!) but since she's slower than I thought she'd be, I go for Mythra and rush in and clobber everyone before switching to Pyra and (try to) finish them off.
