Hello, readers. I'm VickyT36, and I saw Soul and thought it was pretty good movie. I've had this idea in my head for a while now, and decided to do it. Enjoy!
Chapter 1: A Different Life
Joe Gardner's life had changed a lot in the last year. After getting a second chance at life by Jerry, he decided to live his life to the fullest. He began taking up new hobbies, like golfing, jogging in Central Park, and reading books at the library.
Things even changed with his career. He still took the full time teaching position to pay bills, but Dorothea told him he could play with her group anytime he wanted. In school, his students had a little more respect for him after hearing about how he performed with a celebrity.
Things also got better between him and his mother. After clearing the air, Libba finally understood how much music meant to her son. But she was also glad he took the teaching position, that way he'd be able to be covered and pay his bills.
One Monday morning, he was waiting for his class to arrive. He had just finished writing some things down on the blackboard, when his students started coming in. Most of them were still sort of sleepy eyed or had those "Monday blues" look on their faces.
"Good morning, future musicians. I hope you're ready to make some music." he greeted.
Many of the students, only nodded or mumbled.
"Looks like they're gonna need a wake up." Joe thought to himself.
He then took a spare trumpet, and blew into it as hard as he could making a loud sour note. That snapped everyone out of their dazes and they woke up fully.
"Now that we're all at attention, let's get started."
Class seemed to be more lively after that. The students happily played their instruments and they didn't even look down at their phones.
"Very good everyone. Now since you all did so well, I've got a little treat for you." Joe told his pupils.
He got on his computer, and pulled up a school appropriate music video of a popular band. The kids were happy with the surprise.
"Now, while you're listening, try and see if there are any elements in the video that we've talked about."
And with that, he let the class watch the video while he also watched it.
After school ended, Joe left to go home. He walked to the subway, being careful not to have any accidents along the way. Once on the subway, he found a good seat, and rode his way home. As he road, he thought about 22.
He wondered how she was doing, or who she became. There were times he missed her, he was her mentor and the only one was able to get her to want to live. But he was suddenly snapped out of his thoughts, by the sound of his phone ringing.
He pulled it out of his pocket, and saw it was his mother calling.
"Hey, Mom how're you doing?" he asked.
"Hey, Joey, I'm fine. I was just calling to see how work went today." Libba said over the phone.
"Oh work went great. Kids really liked my lessons."
They talked for a while, and then the subway came to his stop and then he said goodbye and hung up. After getting off the subway, and getting into his apartment, he went right to his piano.
"Now to do some other work." he told himself.
Then he started playing, closed his eyes, and soon got lost in the music.
When Joe opened his eyes again, he saw he was in the Zone. He quickly got out of his little bubble, and looked around.
"Hmm, he's usually here by now."
Just then, he saw a large anchor in the shape of a piece sign drop. He looked up, and saw the ship, and some other souls waved from it.
"Moonwind, there you are." Joe said.
"Hello, Joe glad to see you made it."
After seeing how many lost souls there actually were, Joe decided to help Moonwind and the rest of the Mystics Without Borders rescue lost souls.
"Hop on board, we've got work to do."
And with that, Joe got on the boat, and they all sailed away.
For the next hour the soul rescuers helped three different lost souls. They helped a man who was so consumed by video games he hadn't done anything else in days, a woman who got so caught up by her Twitter account she completely forgot what made it special, and a man who got too engrossed in his work as an accountant.
"Well everyone we did good work today." Moonwind declared.
"Yeah, thanks again for letting me join you guys." Joe said.
"Oh, it's no problem Joe. A man who finally helped 22 want to live surely is worthy of being part of the Mystics Without Borders."
And the others agreed.
"Well I better be getting back to my body I got work tomorrow."
With that being said, he said goodbye, and got out of the zone.
Back in his apartment, Joe finished his playing and then went to finish his day. He was now living life to the fullest and he was happy about it.
That's chapter 1
