Long Ago, Before Siren Island Was Found
A ship sailed across the ocean, the waves beating against it and rain harshly dropped down on the deck. Yet the ship prevailed against all odds.
A nomad approached the bow of the ship, wearing nothing but a white cloak. Several other nomads were behind her, also wearing white cloaks, one of them was smaller compared to the rest.
"Are you sure you want to be out here? The weather isn't looking favorable!" The captain called out.
"Keep going." The nomad said quietly. "We'll be fine."
"Suit yourself!"
"Sister, do we even know where we are going?"
"Honestly, I am not sure myself. We'll just have to keep traveling…"
As the ship traveled across the harsh waves that battered the ship, the captain spotted a wave growing in front of them. "Oh… shit." He mumbled. "You ladies better hang on to something, it's going to get interesting!"
One of the nomads wrapped her arms around their youngest sister. "We're going to be okay…" She said gently as the youngest nuzzled against her.
The captain steered his ship to avoid a head on collision with the large wave, but as he turned, his eyes widened as he realized the smaller waves seemingly took this opportunity to rock the boat sideways, enough for the larger wave to swallow the entire ship, crushing it against it's massive size and dragged it down into the ocean floor.
"Nnngh…" The eldest Nomad groaned, sunlight shining down on her as she opened her eyes. "...Where… am I…?"
"Oh thank goodness you're okay."
The Nomad looked up to see a magical being before her. "I saw you shipwreck in the storm and I did all I could to bring you to this island." She said gently. "Unfortunately, I couldn't save your captain."
"Thank you… wait… are you… a genie?"
"Yes." She smiled. "I am the Guardian Genie of this island. Welcome to Paradise Island."
"Paradise… Island?" The Nomad sat up and looked to see the island before her.
"Yes. Well, technically, it's called Harmony Island but I prefer it being called Paradise Island." She smiled. "This island is a shelter for weary travelers. A place where everyone can live in harmony. Genies, sirens, mermaids, fairies, dragons, kitsunes, elves, and many more. Humans also live here, and they too, can co-exist with magical creatures..
"...That's going to be difficult. We're no ordinary nomads. We… tend to feed on life just so we can survive."
The Genie smiled. "Perhaps we can turn that around. Here we have plenty of food that you can use. It gives you plenty of energy! No need for stealing someone's life. This is your home now."
"...We can finally rest." The nomad smiled, taking off her cloak.
"Would you like me to change your appearance? You can have a fresh new start."
"We wouldn't mind… after all, we're just weary magical beings with no purpose in life."
The Genie giggled. "Well, now you can be made into something different." She said, snapping her fingers as the nomads started glowing before they changed completely.
"What did we turn into?"
"You have been reborn as sirens. Just need to come up with names for you all." She said as she looked at each one. "Lobster tail… looks a bit shrimp like… Lobster Siren."
Lobster Siren smiled.
"You… have octopus tentacles for legs. Oh, this one's easy. Octo Siren!"
Octo Siren giggled. "I never expected to have octopus legs. But they feel so right~"
"You have the appearance of an angler fish… and honestly, compared to actual angler fish, you're actually quite cute~ You'll now be known as Angler Fish Siren."
She blushed. "Thank you."
"You… definitely have the most drastic change of all. Goodness me, I didn't mean to go that far." The Genie said, rubbing her chin. "Snake heads, the body is also a mouth… but they also represent tubeworms. Ah, Tubeworm Siren!"
"I think I will call my pet… Scylla."
"A fine choice!" The genie smiled.
"Now you… you're a tricky one." The Genie mused. "You look like a seahorse… eh… Seahorse Siren?"
"If it's all the same to you… it sounds kinda dumb."
"Yeah, you're right… oh, what should we call you…"
"I've been known to be a mechanic of the group."
"Mechanic Siren? No… that's even dumber…" The Genie mumbled.
The siren looked into the ocean, seeing some coral growing out of the water. "...How about… Coral Siren?"
The Genie looked at her in surprise. "Coral Siren? But you look nothing like… eh, okay. Sounds pretty cute for you." She admitted and looked to the other siren. "Plants… like a Water Lily… oh! Water Lily Siren!"
"Hmhmhm, that didn't take long~" Water Lily giggled. "Ah, the sun feels so good~"
"Now that just leaves you, the eldest sister." She said. "Hmm… this is a tough one. Eldest Siren sounds dumb."
"How about… Empress Siren?"
"Empress Siren? …Oh, what the heck. Sounds pretty great!"
Empress smiled. "Mhm. Come along, sisters. We've got a whole island to ourselves… we can finally rest…"
"Now this is more like it~!" Octo said as she walked off along with the others.
The Genie smiled before turning back to the ocean with a sad sigh. "I hope the captain of the ship has a peaceful rest…" She said, closing her eyes as she walked off.
Many years have passed since the Nomads, now the Sirens, shipwrecked at the island and grew to be quite popular. Everyone found some of them attractive, some found to be absolutely afraid of them, such as Angler Fish Siren and Tubeworm, the latter mostly due to her pet being always hungry and could never land a date being fused with Scylla.
As for the Empress Siren, she and the Genie had become best friends, both of them constantly hanging out and enjoying each other's company. They had even made an underground area to explore the sea unhindered. It would also provide a sanctuary for violent tropical storms that battered the island.
However, one such fateful day…
Empress walked over to a dragon girl who looked ready to go out at any moment. "Are you alright?"
"Haaaa… I always forget turning into a dragon takes a lot of my life force… hahahaha… it doesn't happen with other dragon girls… then again, that's what happens when I was born with a defective heart…"
Empress knelt down, taking her hand. "It's going to be okay. I'm here now."
She smiled. "You're sweet… I've lived a good life… no regrets…" She closed her eyes, both of them unaware that Empress' hand was glowing as she would see the dragon girl fading away into nothing.
"Dragon people fade away when they die…?" She wondered to herself as she felt a wave of power go through her. "Nnngh!" She grunted, wincing as she looked at her hand. Her eyes widened. "No… I didn't mean to eat her life energy! I meant to comfort her!"
Tears swelled in her eyes. "No… no…" She closed her eyes, before her sadness turned into a smile. "Heheheh… hahahaha! Oh, but that tasted so good! I got to have more!" She said before slapping herself. "No… don't go there. It's… it's not worth it."
She stood up and walked off, but she was teetering. "Mmmph…" She held on to her head and leaned on a palm tree.
"Are you okay?" A voice asked as she turned to see her Genie friend.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine… I'm just… not feeling too hot at the moment. Don't worry, I'll be okay." She said.
"Oh… okay." She then gave her a hug. "Did she pass in peace?"
"Yeah… she did. Apparently dragon people fade away when they die."
"Really? That's… odd. But, then again, all magical creatures die differently." She said, unaware of what the Empress was thinking.
She's holding me… maybe I can just take a little bit of power from her… no! Don't go there…"
Empress pried away from the hug. "I… need a few moments to myself."
"Okay. I'll be here." She said as the Empress walked off. She seemed a bit off… maybe she's not used to seeing someone die.
In the Siren home underground…
"What?" Coral asked in surprise. "You actually fed off of a dragon girl's life force?"
"Yes… it was by accident. I felt horrible… and yet, it feels so good!" Empress exclaimed. "I wish to have more of this energy. I never felt so alive! I want all of us to experience this! Someone equally as powerful as the dragon… like a genie! Not our genie friend though, but another!"
"What?! No no no, I am not going down that rabbit hole!" Coral protested. "I've done my research on this."
"You have?"
"Yes, I even put it on a spreadsheet." She said, giving it to her. "I've documented every single life force on this island, just in case if we accidentally feed on a magical being. I've studied them all… and beings such as elves, fairies, orcs, and even non-magical beings like humans are okay for us. Mermaids, depending on their size, are okay. The bigger they are, the more likely it will do us more harm than good. The more powerful beings such as dragons, genies and even deities and kitsunes are a horrible idea. The moment we feed even a tiny amount of their force, we become corrupted to the point where we can no longer think straight."
"How tiny are we talking about?"
"Like, we're talking grams here." She said. "However, I've done enough research that there is a cure for all of this. In fact, I've made several hundred of them just in case. A fae was willing to provide some of her magic dust for me, and using some of Water Lily's chrysanthemums, I've developed a cure that can make us go back to the right state of mind. Now, stay right there while I get you a cure."
She slithered over to the potions, putting a syringe into the vial. "Alright, this should be plent-" A lightning bolt struck the vials, exploding them all. "AAAAH!" She shrieked.
"I care not for those so-called cures! All I want is power!" She grabbed the syringe and tossed it to the side, then grabbed Coral by the shoulders. "I want you to kidnap a genie for me, and bring her here where we can all taste that power!"
"No! I… I think this is a terrible idea!"
"I wasn't asking! Give me that Genie!"
"You've gone mad with power…"
"I've been reborn as what I should've been from the beginning! That fool held be back for so long that I finally feel alive! Give me the power of a genie or else your entire lab gets it!"
Coral grimaced. "Okay… okay, fine…" She mumbled as she got into her mech and walked off. "This is gonna suck…" She groaned.
Later…
"Sister, you look a little… different." Octo said, letting out a yawn. "Sorry, I just got back from my nap."
"I have tasted some power that I haven't felt in a long time… and I believe that my dear sisters should do the same."
"What kind of power are we talking about?" Tubeworm wondered, as Coral's mech came walking in and dropped a genie onto the table, where she was bound and taped up. Coral popped out of the mech, but she looked less than pleased over the idea.
"Absolute power!" Empress smirked.
"What? Sister, are you crazy? There's no way we should do this." Angler Fish protested. "Just… it's not right. Have you tasted this power before?"
"From a dragon girl, yes! Hahahaha! The power I'm feeling, it's beautiful!"
"Oh my gosh, it corrupted her!" Water Lily said.
"It didn't corrupt me… it enhanced me. It opened my eyes… and I desire more!"
"Ooookay, I think we need to take a nice long nap because… this isn't right." Tubeworm said.
"That's what I was saying…" Coral mumbled.
"For too long, we've been held back by that Genie! She offered us food… but I'm sick and tired of mangoes, watermelons, bananas and whatever else! I fed on that dragon girl's power and it felt so good. You ought to do the same, dear sisters!"
"I… I'm not so sure…" Octo said nervously.
"Think about it! For too long, humans fall asleep when we sing to them. Tubeworm, Angler Fish! Humans are afraid of your appearance and that is why you can't land any dates, especially the former because of her pet!"
"Listen to yourself! You're… talking nonsense!" Water Lily said.
"...You make a good point." Tubeworm said. "But even so, I'd say we-"
"NO! We are going to make a stand. We are going to set things right. We're going to make names for ourselves. We are going… to make sure those pesky humans and other magical beings know their place in the food chain! NO ONE can strike us down!"
She put her hand on the genie. "Are you with me? Just imagine how beautiful we'll be… imagine the kinds of things we can do! We will be unstoppable!"
"...I'm not sure this is a good idea." Octo said.
"DO IT! As your eldest sister, I outrank all of you, so you better listen to me!"
"Dammit…" Coral mumbled as one by one, they hesitantly put their hands on the Genie, grimacing while they had their hands on her.
"Wait! …Where's Lobster?" Empress asked. "She's going to miss out on the feast!"
"She's swimming in the ocean. Do you want me to grab her?" Coral asked.
"No. Let her be an example of what happens when she misses out on feasting on a powerful being's life." Empress smirked. "Activate your power like what you did as Nomads."
The Empress's hand glowed as she smirked wickedly as did the rest of the Sirens, but they were grimacing and closing their eyes as the Genie's screams were muffled through the tape, begging for mercy as tears ran down her cheeks as thunder echoed throughout the island.
In the ocean, Lobster swam around before stopping. "...The ocean, it feels different somehow. Is there a hurricane coming? …No, it can't be that." She swam up to the surface and looked around, the sky was dark and grey as lightning flashed in the sky.
Rain storms were common on the island, but yet, this one felt different to her. Something was seriously wrong. She immediately ran toward the beach and ran toward Arena Town. "Sisters? Sisters!" She called out. "Where are you!"
Within a few hours after the initial feasting of a genie, the Sirens desired more power. The corruption infested their minds as they tried to break free… but one sip of that power and they were hooked. The more they drained, the more corrupted they got… and none were shared with Lobster.
"What is going on…" The Guardian Genie wondered as she looked around.
"Ah, Harmonia! So good to see you!"
Harmonia turned around, seeing Empress. "Empress! Do you know what's going-" Her eyes widened. "No… you didn't."
"Remember that dragon girl? I absorbed her life energy and it never felt so good! I got my sisters hooked onto this!"
"No… even your sweet little sister?"
"I can neither confirm nor deny that one." Empress smirked.
"I can tell that one was an accident… but you're deliberately going after magical beings just for power!" She said. "The dragon's power had corrupted you!"
"Corrupted? Hahahahaha! No… it made me open my eyes to the truth!" She disappeared, reappearing behind her and grabbed her by the neck.
"Hnnngh!"
"We no longer need you on this island. As of today, Paradise Island will now be known as Siren Island!" She declared as lightning flashed in the sky.
"Empress… I can… save you from your corruption… please! Don't… do this!"
"Farewell, old friend!" She said, conjuring up lightning in her hand and shooting out of the island and into the horizon, disappearing from sight. "Hmhmhmhm… HAHAHAHAHAHA! LET THE DAWN OF THE SIRENS COMMENCE!"
Months have passed since Empress expelled the Guardian Genie from the island, and within that time, they feasted on more magical beings while Lobster resorted to fish and other fruits, unaware of what was going on with her older siblings. Within time, they had built a fortress underneath the island and lured in ships from all over, destroying them as soon as they came close.
Lobster witnessed these shipwrecks and did her best to save anyone sinking to the bottom, but no matter how many she saved, she could only rescue so many as everyone else met a watery demise.
Within that time, Harmonia came back and saw that her island had forever changed. Magical creatures had either fled to safety to a new island, went into hiding, or were fed to the Sirens. Artificial sirens were created by Coral, plaguing the island with their music and their destructive power. It was enough to break her heart.
"I've got to stop this." Harmonia said as she levitated off the ground in search for her friend as she saw her at an arena. She quickly flew over to her. "Empress!"
"Hmm? Oh, hello old friend!" Empress smiled nonchalantly. "I could have sworn you died."
"I was nursed back to health… what is going on here?"
"We've conquered this island for the better, Harmonia. It's better than it was! Hahahaha!"
"Your corruption has gone too far, Empress! You can stop this… I know you can! Please, just… stop this!"
"Why should I stop? There are plenty of other magical beings in this world, are there not? Why stop here in Siren Island? I plan on conquering the entire world where it will be a Siren sanctuary!"
"The entire world?!"
"Did I stutter?"
A tear ran down Harmonia's cheek. "There's… there's no saving you from corruption…"
"Are you going to kill me, old friend? Hahahaha, I'd love to see you try!"
"No… no, there has to be another way… but I can't think of anything… except for…"
"I'd love to chat, but I've got places to conquer. Why don't you go back and crawl under a rock while we prepare!"
"Forgive me, old friend… but this is for your own good." She clapped her hands together, magical aura surrounding her. "I will free you from your corruption!"
"Oh? And how do you plan on doing tha-" Her eyes widened, seeing Harmonia drawing a circle with her fingertips. "What are you doing?"
"A transmutation circle." She said as she stepped into it, more tears fell from her eyes as another circle appeared underneath the Empress.
"What?! No! You fool! You taught me all about your magical abilities, but this one in particular… it's forbidden for a reason!"
"I will seal you in this island and your sisters for your transgressions…" She said.
"HARMONIA!" She lunged, but a barrier blocked her from doing so. "Hrrrgh!"
"You remember this spell, don't you?"
"It's a spell that all genies know… a spell where a being's physical form and power are taken away, but it's forbidden because-"
"-Because in order for that to happen, one must sacrifice their body in order to do so!" Harmonia declared.
"HARMONIA, YOU FOOL! YOU'RE GOING TO DIE BY SEALING ME AWAY!"
"If it means protecting this world from the likes of you, especially my daughter… then I will do what I must." She said as she started chanting words until a powerful figure appeared behind Harmonia.
"Harmonia! Be reasonable about this! You're throwing your life away!"
"You've already done that…" She said, her voice cracking as the figure opened up his hand and thrusted, his hand going through Harmonia's body and into Empress's body.
"Hnnngh!"
Harmonia coughed out blood, looking at Empress. "I'm sorry… old friend…" She weakly said as the being tore out Empress Siren's physical body and power away as it also ejected out of Harmonia's body. "Haaa… haaa…" She put her hand on her wound until her entire hand was crimson. "Seal for time and eternity!" She said, putting it in-between the circles as bright lights surrounded her, her sisters, and the artificial sirens as they were dragged down into the island.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" She screamed as she disappeared, then Harmonia fell on her back. A single tear rolled down her cheek as she took one last breath.
Inside the Fortress…
"RRRGH! DAMN YOU HARMONIA!" Empress yelled as they were sealed up. "I'LL GET YOU BACK FOR THIS! I'LL ABSORB AND DESTROY ALL TRACES OF GENIES IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DOOOO!"
In the Present
"Holy crap…" Rotty said, having read the entire book.
"Zapple? Vera! Where are you?" Plink called out as she spotted Rotty. "Oh! Hey Rotty! Have you seen them?"
"No, but I know the history of this island now." Rotty said as Bolo rounded the corner.
"Oh hey, there you-... who's that on the ground?"
"Oh, that's Armor Baron. He tried to ambush me but I held my own."
Earlier…
"You are not permitted to read that book!" Armor Baron yelled as he ran toward Rotty.
"Hmph." Rotty folded her arms as zombie hands rose up and grabbed her ankles, pulling her down before Armor Baron could knock her out.
"Huh?" He wondered as Rotty rose from the ground behind him, tore off her leg and poked him behind the shoulder. "Hmm?" He turned around, only to get bitchslapped by her leg, knocking him down to the ground… and swung her leg like a sledgehammer into his crotch. "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!"
In the present…
"He'll be fiiiiine." Rotty waved it off.
"So… now what?" Bolo asked.
"We're going straight to Arena Town… because I did not like that earthquake." She said as she ran off.
"Hey, wait up!" Plink said as she and Bolo ran after him.
I tried looking up names for the Guardian Genie, looking for synonyms for Harmony but I decided "Eh, I'll just stick with Harmonia..."
Ibuki: Holy lore dump!
Ooooh yeah, shout out to Jacob for coming up with this one! This was fun to write!
Ibuki: Yeah!
Also, this Gaiden was originally going to launch before the heroes fought Empress Siren but after that casual bombshell that Lobster Siren mentioned, I was like "Eh, why not do a bit earlier than intended?"
