Chapter Four
Their first test was a fifty meter dash.
She gathered alongside the others at a track, listening idly as they were separated into groups of two to run against. Eira and Enya were clutched in her arms, two pairs of twitching ears and twitching tails moving in sync. Shippo leaned against her, aqua watching with a gleam of semi-interested light shining in his eyes. As she stood and observed the matches, a hand tapping her shoulder caught her focus. Curious, she glanced up at the figure in question.
"Huh? Aizawa-sensei?" Kagome craned her head to the side. "What is it?"
He let his attention drift to the two cats she cradled against her chest, and she soon followed his gaze. On cue, both of them mewed up at her, and Kagome smiled. "Watching after them will hinder you," he said, and Kagome looked back up at his face, tilting her head to the side in an innocent fashion. "For now, I'll keep them with me."
"Oh…" Kagome glanced back down at them and tugged them back away from her body, offering them for him to take. "You're right," she said then, a smile appearing on her face. She knew how they were enough to know that he was correct in his assumptions. Enya would try to join in against her in her match, that much she knew. The last thing she needed was to be tackled by the fire-cat in her larger form half-way down the track when she thought it was a race against her.
Kagome bit back a smile when both cats freely climbed up onto his shoulders where his scarf was. Eira wasted no time in burrowing comfortably into the warmth it provided. Aizawa didn't react, which made it more difficult for her not to laugh at seeing him with both of them perched on his shoulders. Enya looked from her and to the man she was now sitting on, and she promptly swatted at his hair, and Kagome had to turn before the dam within her could finally burst.
"Higurashi, you're up," he said with a sigh as Enya kept the assault up, adding in her other front paw as she caught and got snagged on his hair. Kagome nodded and hurried along.
What a rambunctious thing Enya was.
Kagome got into position on the track. This was going to be easy for her. She'd spent months building her stamina as she ran and fought demons in the past. She might not be the fastest, but running was easy.
When she made it to the end of the track and heard her time- 6.82s- she let out a gasp.
"Oh! That's much faster than my score from the last one I took in middle school," she commented. She wasn't even a little winded, and the smile on her face was radiant. All that struggling had really done wonders- and that wasn't even giving the credit to her time spent training under Sesshoumaru and the others! She knew that had a hand in her enhanced stamina just as much as the rest had.
Without warning, a pair of arms wound around her and she was promptly swept up off her feet and spun in a circle. She felt Shippo nuzzle against her as he rambled excitedly in her ear, and she tried to ignore the pressure of accumulated stares on them. At this rate, they were bound to get the wrong idea about them… Kagome sighed, but before she could request to be put down, Aizawa beat her to it.
"Oi, that's enough. Knock it off," Aizawa called to the pair, and Shippo glanced over his shoulder with a mild huff as he lowered Kagome back onto her own feet. A flush of red dyed her cheeks as she nudged him away. "You're in high school. You need to learn to keep your hands to yourself," Aizawa stated, not even looking at them as he motioned for the next pair to go to the track.
Kagome glanced up at Shippo and stifled a giggle. "He's right, you know," she commented, and he huffed again. "You can't keep doing stuff like that all the time," she said. A second later, she smiled and ruffled his hair affectionately. "At least, don't go overboard with it, okay?"
He pouted but nodded anyway. It'd been a default reaction to having everyone watching his mother. His shoulders slumped and he leaned into her touch as she smiled at him. A glare pressed into her back made her glance over her shoulder, and her eyes met a duo-colored pair. She offered her brother a smile. He promptly looked away upon getting caught staring.
Oh, well, one test down at least.

Following the incident after her fifty meter dash, she could tell that Aizawa was doing all he could to keep Shippo out of her space and vice-versa. The kitsune wasn't so happy about it, but Kagome kept assuring him throughout it that it was okay. He did it to limit distractions for them both, so that they both could compete to their fullest, but that didn't mean Shippo enjoyed it.
They'd gone through multiple tests by now, and they were now on the ball throw test.
"Oi, Higurashi."
Kagome jumped at hearing Aizawa call her name, and she turned from where she stood by Iida to glance at him. "Y-Yes Sir?"
"Which one is less likely to chew a ball up?" he asked, and her expression faltered into one of confusion. Her posture slumped some, her head craning to the side as he motioned to the two cats now sitting up wide-awake on his shoulders.
"P-Pardon…?"
"These are your cats," he stated, and she nodded. "Which is less destructive?"
"W-Well… Eira, I guess," she commented. "Enya destroys her toys as soon as she gets them, but not on purpose. She just kinda burns them without meaning to."
Neither of them had the best control over their powers yet, as they were still in the process of learning. Enya would set things on fire by accident when she sneezed, and Eira would freeze them in the same way.
Aizawa nodded and glanced at the ice cat, who, much like Kagome, had cocked her head to the side with a faint chirp.
"Why do you ask?" she asked, and he glanced back at her.
"She's going to play fetch," he commented, and her expression faltered yet again. "It's quicker than going to get the ball each time," he said, and she could see the logic behind the thought, but…
She knew her pets, and she knew something would go askew. Very quickly. Still, she urged herself to have some faith in them. Maybe this time things would go as planned and they'd behave.
"Okay," she said flatly.
It didn't take long for something to go wrong with the cats. After the first throw had been done, Aizawa sent Eira to go fetch the ball. She hopped from his shoulder and a flurry of ice and snow kicked up around her as she transformed into her larger form, previously allowed by the black-haired man.
"Woah!" The murmur of excitement from her other classmates met her ears.
"That itty bitty baby just turned into a huge kitty!" Mina exclaimed, looking at Kagome. "Does this mean the other one can, too?! What kind of cats are they?"
Kagome smiled and tapped at her cheek as people circled her. She held her hands up in an attempt to push them back some. "Y-Yeah," she said. "Enya has a larger form, too. They're demon cats, actually, and they were given to me by some demon friends of mine."
"They'll be in class alongside you all," Aizawa stated. "You'll have plenty of time to get used to them, but for now we have other things to focus on."
Kagome looked at him, noting that he most likely knew about all of their existing abilities at this point. Well, it made sense. If he was to be her teacher, and if they were even allowed in the first place, he must've been informed. Sesshoumaru likely supplied all of the information that would be needed on them.
"For now," he said as he glanced at Eira, "go fetch!"
Eira, the one who often followed orders so easily, took off on his mark, carrying the freezing temperature that surrounded her large body as she went. She bounded after it, and several others left behind watched her go in awe. Enya, on his other shoulder, caught sight of her running off, and she reacted instantly. She leaped from Aizawa's shoulder, and Kagome rushed to stop her, only to be a few seconds too late.
A tornado of flames and cinders swirled up around her, much to the surprise of everyone else, and Kagome planted her hands on her hips firmly, glaring at Enya.
"Enya! No- No!" Kagome lifted a hand and pointed at the other cat. She stood, glancing between Kagome and the path Eira had taken. "No. You know better."
Enya looked at her for a second before she abruptly turned and took off after Eira, the call of a chase outweighing her will to behave. Kagome's mouth dropped open and she stood dumbstruck as Enya took off after Eira.
The blatant disrespect...-!
"Enya!" Kagome shouted at her. People were silent as Kagome glared at the spot Enya had once stood in, the ground lightly seared and charred. She groaned and fixed her hair up with the hair tie wrapped around her wrist, pulling the long locks up into a high-resting ponytail.
"Does she often do that?" The redhead beside her, Kirishima, asked, and Kagome felt her expression sour.
"Not that, but I should've expected her to do something," she muttered. "She's too playful to sit calmly." She finished fixing her hair up and sighed, resting her hands on her hips. "No worries! I'll get her back under control, Aizawa-sensei! Although… if she pulls Eira into a mini-match it might be a bit difficult…"
"Huh?!" Kirishima jolted at hearing her proclamation. "A-Are you sure that's safe?"
Kagome glanced at him and smiled. "Of course!" she exclaimed. "They're my cats. They're not dangerous to any of us. It's not the first time I've had to do something like this, either. Enya once took off after a truck going down the road. Poor driver… I don't think the guy's ever been that scared before…" Kagome trailed off, and the redhead's expression faltered.
"Oh, well, it can't be helped," Aizawa said, and Kagome glanced at him. "We'll do the ball throw test after this then."
"Huh?"

As such, their test was put on hold as they went to corral the two demon cats. Much to her surprise, Kagome stood alongside her classmates as they finally caught up to the two. She let out a sigh at the sight of them, the ball between them, both equally frozen and seared in some places.
They both might've been in their larger forms, but the sight of the heavily played-with ball reminded her that they were still just kittens in terms of age.
"S-So you're sure they're not dangerous to us?" Uraraka asked, and Kagome looked at her with a reassuring smile.
"Of course! They wouldn't be here if that was the case," she said. "They're still kittens, despite how they look right now. Their attacks aren't strong enough to have any effect on people, either." She paused and glanced at the group. "Although… it's best to not antagonize them. They get bitey really fast that way."
"Since you know them the best, you're in charge of this, Higurashi," Aizawa said from where he stood on the sidelines, observing them and the two felines. If he had thought it might have any danger to it, she knew he wouldn't leave it to them on their own. Kagome looked at him from the corner of her eye and nodded. "Treat this as a learning experience- all of you. Something like this wasn't planned for today, but it's too good of an opportunity to pass up."
"Okay!" Kagome exclaimed. She turned to her classmates and folded her arms over her chest. "Eira is usually docile, and she'll be the easiest to calm down. Enya is more wild, and she's also the faster of the pair. We'll split into two groups and force them apart."
She could tell based on their auras who would be better to face who. She'd leave the weaker, less assured ones to handle Eira, knowing it'd be better for them to calm the cat with a more mild temperament. Meanwhile… the rest and herself would go for Enya.
"They're attacks aren't strong enough to hurt humans right now, so you don't have to worry about that, but they do bite," she reminded them. "Their teeth might be big, but they're not as dangerous as they look."
They knew not to put their full attack force against humans, anyway.
Auroua-chan: Interrupting their tests are Eira and Enya. Wild babies just wanna play. Any guesses to the groups to corral each one? Ahaha. Something like that was totally on the schedule for training later btw- so expect it to pop up again.
Honestly, there are a lot of options for the pairing of this story that all have their own appeal. The main issue of deciding is figuring out which and who would be better with a more friend/familial relationship compared to a more romantic one. Either way, Kagome's sure to be popular with others due to her kind, determined, outgoing and just inviting in general personality. She'll give off a nurturing/protective sister vibe to a lot of people, and she'll be a comforting support for a lot. Bigtime class mom figure. I'm interested in most of the suggested options. In no particular order, personally my favorite options right now are; Bakugo, Hawks, Izuku, Amajiki, Mirio, Fumikage, Shinso. (There's still more, too, that I'm still contemplating and haven't been suggested yet, so-)
I'm also open to the Shoto/Momo suggestion that was given. It'd be cute.
I don't have a hero name set for Kagome yet. I do plan for there to be other spiritually aware people (on both sides) so I'm going to refrain from the name Miko for her hero name. It could be a part of it, but her hero name won't just be "Miko."
Her hero costume is another thing I'm still contemplating. I've gotten a few suggestions for them that I really like. I like the idea of a balance between traditional/modern. (With emphasis on some traditional Miko attire as well as attributes from a Demon Slayer's uniform, as well as hidden weapons and such.)
Kagome's skills will be extensive, and she'll learn many things(With her abilities and Quirk.). We'll also see more of the Higurashi family. (They do have Quirks of their own.)
I'm really excited for Sesshoumaru to make his reappearance, as well as what will follow. He definitely won't be the friendliest to Endeavor (who he has yet to meet due to certain reasons.) - granted, neither will the other demons…
Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!
Bye for now~
