Mama Mirajane-37
~Soul Eater~
"Seriously Scythe, did you have to punch him that hard in the face?" Wendy asked her husband, while they followed Sid through the guillotine arched gates of the Deathroom.
"Sorry, but you know I'm not the kind of person to just back down from trouble." Scythe exclaimed.
"Still you broke his nose and injured his neck with that punch. He won't be needing a halo, but he will be needing to wear a brace for a while." Wendy exclaimed.
"Serves him right for being a perv and forcing his hands on you." Scythe exclaimed.
"Considering this is a combat school, you're not getting detention, but you will have to learn the rules of combat on campus outside of classes." Sid exclaimed. "But you can review those later. Right now we need to get to your meeting with Lord Death."
Scythe and Wendy followed Sid into a large spacious room with crosses and a platform with a large mirror and Spirit standing beside a figure dressed in black, with a white skull mask. But the most surprising thing, was a familiar white haired woman standing beside them. It looked like they were talking about something before the three of them came in.
"Mom? What are you doing here?" Scythe asked.
"Your grandfather told me about your early enrollment. I asked him to take me here to see you before you started." Mira exclaimed.
"Your mother will be staying with you at your campus apartment while you attend classes here in our world." Spirit said. "An' maybe I can stop by for a little home cooking and other things."
"Mira Chop." Mira said, chopping Spirit hard on the head. "My father told me about the Reaper Chop before he brought me here, so I thought I'd do something similar." Mira smiled. "However, I am not a little playboy bunny for your entertainment. I can tell that you're someone who's not loyal to your woman, so buzz off."
"Yes ma'am." Spirit said, lying on the ground, a large dent in his head.
"Hello, hello, hello." The masked individual said. "Welcome to the DWMA, it's so good to see you and…" He stopped talking when he spotted Scythe's right hand. "My dear boy, might I see your right hand?"
"Uh… sure?" Scythe said, hesitantly reaching out his hand for the reaper to see.
Two long black appendages with white nubs unfurled from Death's cloaked form before expanding into comically big hands, one of them grabbing Scythe's and bringing it forward, examining the magic circle on the back of it.
"Find something interesting there Lord Death?" Spirit asked.
"Well, I'm not too sure. Young man, could you possibly summon whoever is connected to this circle for me?" Death asked.
"Uh, I'm not sure it'll work but I'll give it a shot." Scythe said, turning to her right and holding his hand open and out. "Amaterasu."
A pillar of fire erupted from where he pointed his hand, before it died down, and Amaterasu was standing there.
"Yep, it's her all right." Death said.
"Oh man, what a hottie, where'd you come from babe?" Spirit asked, hearts in his eyes, hugging her leg.
"Ugh, I see you're still as lecherous as ever." Amaterasu groaned.
"You know him Amaterasu?" Scythe asked.
"Yeah, you could say that, I've met him once before." Amaterasu said, raising her leg, getting Spirit off her, before stomping her foot on his head. "I met him once when he was still a student here, and I was giving my brother a visit."
"Your brother?" Wendy asked.
"Heya sis, how's it been?" Death asked raising his hand.
"Pretty good."
"So how's my nephew, little Ragnar doing?" Death inquired.
"Ragnar?" Scythe asked.
"Acnologia's actual name. He took the name of Acnologia because it was the name of the dragon that destroyed his home." Amaterasu sighed putting her fingers to her forehead with a sigh.
"Wait, he said nephew… does that mean?" Scythe asked slowly turning to look at her, his eyes shrinking in realization.
"Yes, I am… or rather was, Acnologia's mother, or at least I was when I was mortal." Amaterasu stated. "I was wanting to tell you at a different time, when it was right. But I appear to be a bit late."
"Wait, so how is your brother Lord Death?" Wendy asked.
"Well, when we were both mortals, we both lived in Earthland, but I died as a Godslayer of Earth magic, but when I died, I was given the option of taking the roll as Lord of Death in this world, due to the old one passing on, and not having left behind an heir. So I accepted and became Lord of Death here." Death exclaimed.
"Wait, Acnologia was born four hundred years ago, how…"
"The realm of gods is outside of time. It's not tied down by any sort of chronology. So even if I was born little over four hundred years ago, I'm still technically as old as time itself." Amaterasu explained. "Same goes for Death."
"She's right…" Death exclaimed.
"Can we please get back to the fact I'm the grandson of an actual Goddess?" Scythe asked.
"Grandson? Well this is a surprise." Death exclaimed. "So little Ragnar had another kid did he? With another woman no less."
"The story is a little more complicated than that little brother. I'll explain it to you over tea, but right now just go through your usual thing you do when talking with a new student." Amaterasu exclaimed.
"All right then." Death agreed. "Ahem… As Lord Death, I welcome you Celestial Knights to the DWMA as official students."
There was a moment of pause.
"Is that all?" Scythe asked.
"Yep, pretty much." Death exclaimed.
"Is there anything else we need to know?" Wendy inquired.
"Well, students get a weekly allowance, which is used to spend wisely for food and other such necessities. If you do somehow end up spending it all before the next allowance, you're on your own for funds." Death exclaimed.
"Got it." Scythe said. "I think Wendy and I will go to that coffee shop we saw in town earlier, after gramps dropped us off at the front of the city. Wanna join us mom?"
"Sure, I'd be happy to." Mira smiled.
"One more thing. You might want to try and suppress your magic. You might get mistaken as a witch and wizard duo trying to infiltrate the school." Death exclaimed.
"We already had an encounter like that earlier with a student named Blackstar." Scythe sighed.
"Ah." Death exclaimed. "Sorry about that. Blackstar can be a bit of a nuisance because of his big ego."
"Question." Scythe said. "If Blackstar ever goes too far with his ego, can I be the one to punish him?"
"Hmm? Why would you want to do that?" Death asked.
"Learning humility every once in a while could do him some good." Scythe exclaimed.
"I agree with Scythe on this." Wendy said. "His ego is so big he considers himself able to surpass God."
"They do make a valid point sir." Spirit added.
"I guess they do." Death exclaimed. "All right. If Blackstar let's his ego get him out of line. You have permission to execute any sort of punishment you deem necessary."
"Great." Scythe said. "Now, if that's all, we'll be on our way."
"Hold on, a couple more things." Death said. "We need to determine what kind of weapon you are."
"What kind of weapon I am?" Scythe asked. "Oh that's right. I haven't tried transforming from that weapon core implanted in my soul yet. So what do I do, to make that happen?"
"We can easily remedy that." Sid exclaimed. "Try to picture it, your weapon form. Imagine the sharp blade that's lying dormant within your soul. Then try to awaken it, and do battle for the sake of what you believe is right."
"Right." Scythe nodded his head, before closing his eyes and taking in a deep breath. Scythe tried to imagine his weapon form, but couldn't find his weapon form. "Sorry, I can't seem to transform, not yet at least."
"That's fine, there's no rush. Take your time with it. In the meantime, Sid would you mind taking them to their apartment?" Death asked.
"Sure thing." Sid exclaimed. "Follow me."
"Wait before we go, I gotta ask, if you're actually my grandmother, why did you have me call you big sis?" Scythe asked.
"Well, I might be old enough, but I don't look old enough to be a grandmother. Plus I didn't really know how to tell you since you were still dealing with learning you're Acnologia's son." Amaterasu said.
Scythe and Wendy followed Sid out of the Death Room, and back through the halls. Sid already gave them the grand tour of the campus before heading to the Death Room.
"Lord Death told me about Earthland before you came to the Academy. It's hard to believe there's an entire world filled with magic users." Sid exclaimed.
"Yeah, I'd imagine that would feel troubling being this school was built to fight witches, and Kishins." Scythe exclaimed.
"But Lord Death has told me not all the magic users in Earthland are evil. Also, we're going to be keeping it secret you're both Celestial Knights. Students don't learn about Celestial Knights until their third year." Sid exclaimed.
"I guess that makes sense. First and second years probably couldn't handle the knowledge of there being interdimensional police everywhere." Wendy exclaimed.
"HEY."
"Great, not this again." Scythe sighed, stopping to turn back to look at Blackstar, who was glaring at him. "What do you want?"
"We're not done yet." Blackstar said. "I still have to kick your ass for being a wizard infiltrating the school. Looks like you even brought the mastermind of your plans with you."
"Would you shut up? This is my mother, not some mastermind of any evil plans you think might be happening." Scythe sighed. "Tsubaki, I thought you were going to reign him in?"
"I'm sorry, but he's really adamant about you being evil, beating you in a fight." Tsubaki apologized. "Blackstar I keep telling you, they actually are students of the academy, they're first years."
"Like hell they are." Blackstar said, charging at them. "Tsubaki Ninja Sword Mode."
Tsubaki sighed before transforming into a short single edge sword, and going into Blackstar's hands.
"I apologize but I can't let him fight unarmed." Tsubaki said as Scythe kept dodging his attacks.
"Knock it off you two." Sid exclaimed, trying to get the fighting to stop. "Scythe and Wendy are both Celestial Knights. They're here at the academy to enhance their training."
"Celestial Knights? Don't make me laugh. They're supposed to be awesome and cool looking, not pathetic and wimpy like these two." Blackstar said, continuing his attack.
"Scythe, I think now might be a good time for you to try and change into your weapon form." Wendy said.
"You know I can't." Scythe exclaimed, continuing to dodge the attack.
"Perhaps this is the situation you need to unlock it?" Wendy suggested.
"Maybe." Scythe said, closing his eyes, as he continued to dodged the attacks, and focused internally. Scythe began to focus on his internal energy, feeling the need to reach out with his soul. He reached out and grabbed what he was being drawn to, and gripped it tight, before he felt his body begin to heat up.
"Fine, if you're going to ignore me, and just dodge all my attacks, then I'll just go after your witchy partner instead." Blackstar stated.
Scythe's eyes shot open as he saw Blackstar running towards Wendy with an intent to kill, in his eyes.
"Blackstar stop this." Tsubaki shouted from her weapon form.
"Shut up Tsubaki, this is our chance for you to devour a witch's soul and become that much stronger." Blackstar said, rearing his arm back to swing down on Wendy.
Blackstar's swing was stopped, when Tsubaki's weapon form was stopped by a crescent curved blade, blocking it. Blackstar and Wendy gasped in surprise, as Scythe stood in front of her, blocking Blackstar's attack, with his right arm turned into a blade, and a glare in his eyes.
"You wanted a fight Blackstar? Now you got one." Scythe exclaimed pushing him back, and grabbing Wendy's hand before his body began to glow brightly, and he turned into a weapon.
Wendy stood there, holding a death scythe with a blade on each and a handle guard in the center. The crescent blades were red with black tips partially running along the dull top serrated edges.
"Scythe, you're… you're a…" Mira gasped.
"A double headed death scythe, ironic I know, but stay focused." Scythe said, his face and shoulders gleaming off the side of the top blade. "We've still got a fight to win."
"Blackstar, are you convinced now?" Tsubaki asked.
"The only thing I'm convinced about, is that wizard was also born as a weapon." Blackstar said.
"You're an idiot." Wendy exclaimed. "Scythe, think we can take them? I don't exactly know how to wield your weapon form."
"Just remember what Maka said during orientation. Our souls have to be in sink, and we can do it." Scythe said.
"Right." Wendy said.
Wendy jumped back to evade another attack from Blackstar, before she swung Scythe while twisting him in her hand, blocking Blackstar's strike, before she planted one of Scythe's ends on the ground and used the momentum to swing her legs forward, and kick Blackstar in the face, knocking him away and into a pillar, rendering him unconscious for a second time.
"Is he ever going to learn?" Sid asked as Scythe reverted from his weapon form.
"I doubt it. But this doesn't warrant me to use disciplinary actions granted by Lord Death. Tsubaki, mind taking him to the nurse's office again?" Scythe asked as the shinobi girl reverted back to her human form.
"Yes of course. An' I apologize once again for his behavior." Tsubaki said.
"I get the feeling him attacking us is gonna be a constant thing. So even though he attacks, don't try to help him by turning into a weapon. I understand loyalty, but Lord Death has granted me permission to punish him if his ego tells him to do something that will have serious backlashes on himself and those around him. An' if he does that while you're helping him, as his weapon, then you'll be held accountable as well." Scythe explained.
"Right." Tsubaki said, grabbing Blackstar and pulling him away to the nurse's office.
"Right then. Now that we have this little conflict settled, follow me." Sid exclaimed. "I must admit, I was surprised to find your weapon form is a dual headed death scythe. But I guess that's just the kind of man you are. What being Lord Death's nephew and all that. Oh, just wait until you meet his son. You're probably gonna get along well with Kid."
"Great Uncle. An' I guess I would like to meet my second cousin. Didn't know I had one." Scythe said.
"Classes start up tomorrow, so be sure to get plenty of sleep tonight." Sid explained. "The apartment complex you'll be staying at is owned by the academy, so you don't have to worry about paying rent, but food and other necessities are on you, that's what the weekly allowance is for." Sid stated, handing them both an envelope. "Given the money between you two, there should be more than enough to last you until next week."
"All right. Thanks Sid." Scythe smiled.
~Deathbucks~
"Welcome to Deathbucks, please, have a seat anywhere you'd like." A man behind the counter said.
"Thanks." Scythe smiled as he and Wendy with Mira walked in. "The apartment was kinda nice. Beds and everything. Too bad it only has two rooms."
"Why? You and Wendy got the biggest room, so you'll be sharing the bed. It's only fair as you are a married couple." Mira smiled.
"I guess." Wendy sighed. "So how's Miia doing?"
"She's doing good, Yang and Ruby like having her as their substitute boss while the two of you are on missions, and she's very excited to see you all again." Mira exclaimed. "I extended to offer of coming with me to see you both, but she turned it down. Something about not being ready to face grandma and grandpa yet. But just wait until she hears about Amaterasu being your grandmother on your father's side of the family. I was always curious about the type of women Logan would have gone for in the past, guess now we know."
"She was probably a different person when she was mortal." Scythe said. "But what you said with Miia, I'm a little concerned that she might be going through something."
"Now that you mention it, she has been steering clear of me since we returned from our honeymoon. I wonder what's going on." Wendy exclaimed.
"She's probably just going through some personal stuff. You know she is a teenager." Mira exclaimed. "By the way sweetie. Your grandfather says he's got another mission for you when you're finished with helping in the S-Class trials."
"What can I get for you three?" The counter man asked, coming to their table to take their orders.
"I'll have a grande mocha." Scythe said.
"Grande espresso for me." Wendy added.
"A lemon ice tea and three slices of cake for me." Mira exclaimed.
"Coming right up." The man exclaimed writing them all down, leaving for the orders.
"So what sort of mission is gramps going to have us participate in this time, and how long is it going to take?" Scythe asked.
"It's going to take a few months, it'll take place in a world filled with ghouls. He wouldn't give me the details since I'm not a Celestial Knight, so I don't know much else than that." Mira exclaimed. "Though I do know, it's gonna take quite a bit of willpower not to lose your temper with this one."
"Hey, I can control my temper." Scythe exclaimed.
"Sweetie you get the tiniest bit angry when someone even mentions abuse or hurting the innocent." Mira exclaimed. "Yes it's upsetting, but you let that anger consume you more than it should."
"Sorry about that." Scythe sighed as the café owner came back with their orders.
"There you go enjoy." He said, before heading off.
"So what's the plan for the S-Class trials this year?" Scythe asked.
"We'll be hosting the trials at Tenrou Island this year. An' Wendy will be taking part in them this year. The master was actually going to pick Mystogan's old apprentice Mest Gryder, but you've proven yourself more than worthy." Mira exclaimed. "Scythe, you'll be participating as a healer for those who fail and come to the campsite to wait for the remainder of the trial to end. Knowing you, there'd be no one left conscious when fighting you."
"I guess you're right." Scythe chuckled. "But I can guarantee you Uncle Elfman, is gonna partner up with Evergreen. An' if they end up facing off with you, then don't fall for any tricks, especially any bluffs on them getting married."
"Oh please, I doubt Elfman would be so under handed to do that." Mira said.
"But Evergreen would." Scythe stated.
"What even makes you think they're gonna partner up?" Wendy asked.
"Just a hunch." Scythe chuckled, taking a swig of his coffee.
"So, you excited for classes to start?" Mira asked. "You're gonna be starting out in the third years class since you're Celestial Knights."
"I'm a little nervous." Wendy admitted. "I wasn't expecting to be part of the classes. I'm especially concerned if that Blackstar kid is gonna be there. Tsubaki I don't mind, she seems nice, kinda reminds me of you Mira."
"How sweet, but you're married to my son, so please, call me mom." Mira chuckled.
"Hey, don't worry. If Blackstar is in that class I'll be right by your side." Scythe smiled.
"So, what are you planning on doing during the day while we're at class?" Wendy asked Mira.
"Well, I was actually thinking of getting a job, somewhere close by." Mira exclaimed.
"If you're looking for a job, I saw a sign outside that said this place is hiring." Scythe said. "Why don't you try here? You're already so good at bussing and waiting on tables at the guild, it'd be perfect."
"You know, I think you're right." Mira smiled, getting up. "Let me go talk with the manager real quick."
~DWMA Cafeteria Next Morning~
"Man, it's too bad mom didn't make breakfast since she had to head in for her first day of work so soon." Scythe said.
"I know, he cooking is amazing. Oh well, the food here smells pretty great to." Wendy added.
"Yeah, but you know nothing can hold a candle to my mom's cooking." Scythe smiled.
"One bowl of noodles please." One of the three girls said, in front of them in line.
"Don't you mean three?" The guy at the till asked.
"Nope, just one." She said.
"Wasn't she in orientation yesterday?" Wendy asked.
"Yeah she was. She was the one that Maka girl smiled and waved at." Scythe said. "Excuse me." He addressed gaining their attention. "If you're short on cash then I don't mind spotting you for the food."
"Oh no, we couldn't possible impose." The black haired girl said.
"It's no problem at all, really." Wendy smiled.
"Excuse me sir. Could you make that three bowls of noodles, a rice omelet, and a large pork cutlet katsudon rice bowl?" Kaen asked.
"Coming right up sir."
"We're sorry you had to do this." The girl said.
"It's no trouble at all. Scythe and I don't mind helping you out." Wendy said, as Scythe stepped up to pay for the food. "Besides, his mom is working at the Deathbucks Café starting today, so we can afford to splurge a little, right now. So how come you three are short on cash?"
"Well, mine was taken from me by a girl named Kim, Meme misplaced hers, and Anya spent all of hers on the market buying junk, just this morning." She said. "My name's Tsugumi Harudori, it's nice to meet you."
"Likewise." Wendy said as the three of them went over to a table. "My name's Wendy Marvell Strauss. The big mountain with a bigger heart is Scythe Strauss."
"Oh, did you enroll here with your brother or cousin or something?" Tsugumi asked.
"Oh no, nothing like that." Wendy chuckled. "You might find this hard to believe, but Scythe and I are actually husband and wife."
"What? I had heard Commoners get married at a young age, but I wasn't expecting this." Anya, the blonde exclaimed.
"Hey, when are we going to order breakfast? Why are we just sitting here?" Meme asked.
"Breakfast is coming Meme, we've already ordered remember?" Tsugumi asked.
"We did? Guess I forgot." Meme smiled.
"Sorry about her, we think Meme has short term memory loss, since she keeps forgetting everything every now and then." Anya sighed.
"But yeah, it's surprising to find you're married at a super young age." Tsugumi said.
"Yeah it can be surprising when people first find out." Scythe said, coming to the table with a bowl of food. His nose caught a whiff of something venomous, and realized it was coming from Meme. "But they eventually get used to it."
"I guess." Tsugumi said. "So, anyway thank you again for this, and again I'm sorry to be a bother."
"It's no trouble at all." Scythe said, handing each of them their bowls of noodles, making sure to put a healing enchantment in Meme's without the three of them noticing.
"So which one of you is the weapon and meister?" Anya asked.
"Hmm? Oh, I'm the weapon she's the meister." Scythe said, before he began to dig into his Katsudon.
"That's interesting. I'm a halberd. What weapon are you?" Tsugumi asked.
"I'm a dual blade death scythe." He exclaimed. "Kinda ironic given my name."
"So, I'm assuming you three are gonna be looking for work to cover your expenses until you get your next allowance right?" Wendy asked, changing the subject, while eating her rice omelet.
"Yeah, that's right. Either that or find Meme's lost money and live off that until next the next allowance comes in." Tsugumi said.
"Well, if you're looking for work, the place my mom starts work at today is still hiring. He's looking for a few students to join the faculty and bring in some new customers. You'll even get some uniforms. The pay is also daily, so you get paid at the end of your shifts." Scythe explained.
"That sounds pretty good. It's a coffee shop right? Wendy told us your mom was starting work at a café called Deathbucks." Tsugumi said.
"Yeah, that's right. An' I'm sure she'll be happy to work with you three for the week." Scythe smiled. "Why don't we head there today after classes?"
"Sounds like a decent enough plan." Anya said. "I'm interested to see how you commoners work and do business."
"You know… I didn't have to buy you food, princess." Scythe exclaimed, his left brow twitching.
"By the way, I noticed you're covered in scars. Especially the ones spider webbing up your right arm, all the way to your right eye." Tsugumi exclaimed. "What's up with those, if you don't mind me asking?"
"Oh these? They're proof of my strength and willingness to help others no matter what it takes." Scythe exclaimed. "Even my right eye is artificial, but I can still see clearly out of it like it's the real thing."
"Whoa, what have you been doing before you came to this school?" Meme asked.
"Sorry, that's classified." Scythe smiled. "I'm not supposed to tell anyone of our origins, Lord Death's orders."
"I see. If you're following his orders than it must mean something big. So we won't pry." Anya said.
"Scythe, Wendy, just the two people I was looking for." Sid said, coming to the table. "Lord Death wants to meet with you, he's got an assignment for you both."
"Alright, we'll be right there." Scythe said, wolfing down the rest of his Katsudon. "Sorry girls, looks like you're gonna have to find the café on your own."
"That's fine. Have a safe journey on your job." Tsugumi said as they left.
Heading for the Death Room, Scythe and Wendy did their best not to draw any attention, but given their looks, and Scythe's scars, that would be a bit difficult. When entering the Death Room, and meeting Death and Spirit at the platform with Tsubaki and Blackstar there, Scythe groaned in annoyance.
"Ah, just the two I was hoping to see." Death said.
"Hey, you two still owe me your souls, you damned witches." Blackstar shouted, punching his fist to his palm, before he was knocked to the ground with a Reaper Chop.
"That is no way to treat a Celestial Knight, let alone two of them." Death exclaimed. "Now I'd kindly ask you respect my nephew and his wife."
"Y-yes sir." Blackstar said still face first in the ground.
"So, what's you want to see us about Uncle?" Scythe asked.
"Ah yes, the matter at hand." Death exclaimed. "Tsubaki would you do the honors of explaining?"
"Yessir." Tsubaki said. "You see, Blackstar and I recently failed at our last mission a few days ago. We were supposed to kill Al Capone, a man who's soul is a Kishin Soul, ready to hatch into a full blown Kishin. Lord Death wants Blackstar and I to hand this mission over to you, so it can get done."
"It's also come to light he's found the location of the Witch Angela. If he devours a witch's soul, he will indeed become a full-fledged Kishin." Death exclaimed. "I want you to intercept him and stop him."
"I'm assuming you're wanting us to do something about the witch?" Wendy asked.
"No, Angela is only a child, still highly impressionable, which means she still has a chance to be drawn to the path of light." Death exclaimed handing Scythe a slip of paper. "Here's the location of Angela's home. Al Capone and his goons will be there any minute now. Use your Celestial Knight, teleportation abilities to get there as fast as possible."
"On it." Scythe exclaimed. "By the way, what exactly do I do with a Kishin soul once I have it?"
"You eat it of course." Death exclaimed.
"Huh?" Scythe asked, his body going white.
"That's how an ordinary weapon, evolves into a Death Scythe. The weapon must consume 99 Kishin souls, and one witch's soul."
"So, I just eat them like giant marshmallows?" Scythe inquired.
"Strange analogy, but you get the gist of it." Death said.
"It's not as bad as you think. Kishin souls actually have a nice texture to them." Tsubaki explained as Blackstar picked himself up. "There's about fifty Kishin souls, all together, that's including Al Capone himself."
"Now off you two go, otherwise it'll be too late." Death said, shooing them off.
~Witch Angela's Base~
The sun was high in the air, as a horde of mafia dressed goons were standing outside a chameleon designed castle.
"There's a witch living inside this castle boss." One of the goons said.
"An' after we capture her soul, my family will be the strongest." Al Capone said. "Ya know?" He looked to one of his goons, who nodded in confirmation.
"Don Al Capone." Another goon said, pointing to someone sitting by the entrance to the castle.
The man had long white hair, with his attire consisting of a dress shirt, grey dress pants, and a beige trench coat, that looked like it had seen better days. He was sitting on a rock, with a katana in one hand, and a piece of straw in his mouth.
"So Al Capone. What could possibly bring a dirty mob boss like yourself to this castle?" The man asked. "An' if I don't like your answer, you die."
"Well what do you know, a tough guy…Kill him." Al Capone said to which his goons all raised their guns at the swordsman.
"Looks like we came to the party just in time."
They all looked up to see Scythe and Wendy standing on the in front of the castle, Scythe smiling in excitement.
"Al Capone, your days are numbered." Scythe said, taking Wendy's hand, and transforming into his weapon form. "You've been on the DWMA's wanted list for a while now, and it's about time we take you off it."
"DWMA Students?" Al Capone asked as Wendy leapt from the wall and down to the horde. "Kill 'em men."
"Too slow." Wendy smirked, slicing one of Scythe's blades through three of Al Capone's men. "Hey Scythe, taking down evil like this is kinda fun."
"You got that right." Scythe responded. "We got one hell of a mission for our first job, let's not screw it up."
(Cue Music… We Will Rock You: Five-Feat. Queen)
"Right." Wendy smiled, swinging Scythe around, and slicing through several more goons.
Wendy jumped into the air, using her Sky Slayer Magic to boost the height, before she came falling down, slicing through more of Al Capone's men.
Acting in perfect sync, Wendy and Scythe were cutting down Al Capone's men, like they were mowing a lawn. Though Wendy took a single misstep and began to fall, before Al Capone aimed his gun at her, and fired a shot, hitting Wendy in the shoulder.
"Wendy." Scythe cried out, exiting his weapon form, and shielding her with his body completely covered in metal as a barrage of bullets came firing at them from the remaining gunmen of Al Capone's troops.
"Scythe." Wendy called out.
Scythe looked up and growled, before grabbing Wendy, and jumping behind a pillar. Setting her down there, Scythe made sure to stop the bleeding with his healing magic.
"Feeling any better?" Scythe asked.
"Yeah, I'll be fine." Wendy smiled. "My shoulder still hurts though."
"The bullet went clean through, it should heal up with enough treatment. Stay here." Scythe said.
Looking around the pillar, Scythe saw that Al Capone's men were waiting for him to make a move. He looked over to the swordsman and saw he was agitated, and pulling out his blade. Apparently he didn't take too kindly to men who hurt children.
Concentrating, Scythe focused on part of his weapon form to manifest, as two crescent blades appeared on the sides of his arms. Smiling at what he was able to do, Scythe let his claws loose before he went charging at Al Capone's men, his body no longer covered in metal, as he took bullet after bullet, and began cutting them down one by one with his claws and the blades that had formed on his arms.
Eventually, all that stood, was Al Capone, starring in horror at Scythe as he had mowed down his men, like they were nothing, as the bullets that had lodged in his flesh, began to fall to the ground as his healing factor kicked in.
"Al Capone." Scythe said, as the swordsman stabbed the man through one of the legs, to keep him from running. "You're finished."
(End Song…)
Scythe swung his arms forward, using both the scythe blades on his arms to slice Al Capone's head off, to which his body imploded and all that was left was a red rocky looking soul, just like all the others.
"Thanks for the assist." Scythe said, grabbing the soul. "Here goes something."
Opening his mouth, Scythe devoured the Kishin soul, and to his surprise, it was giving off a rather pleasant texture.
"No problem kid. Is your friend all right?" The swordsman asked, sheathing his blade.
"I managed to stop the bleeding so she should be fine until we get back to the DWMA. The bullet went straight through, so she won't need surgery to get it removed. An' it doesn't look like bullet damaged her shoulder any worse than tearing through her flesh." Scythe exclaimed, as he began eating the rest of the Kishin Souls there. "Name's Scythe."
"Mifune." He said. "So if you're with the DWMA, does that mean you've come to collect Angela's soul?"
"Are you kidding me?" Scythe asked. "No way in hell I'm killing a child. I'd have nightmares worse than the ones I'm already having."
"I see." Mifune smiled.
"Besides, Lord Death believes that since she's a child, and still highly impressionable, she can be guided towards a path of light, instead of darkness." Scythe exclaimed eating the last Kishin soul. "Man, those are better tasting then I thought they'd be."
"So this was your first mission for the DWMA?" Mifune asked.
"Yep." Scythe said. "If I'm being honest, I'm actually attending the DWMA to finish my training."
"I see. You do look like you've seen quite a few battles in your days." Mifune said.
"I have." Scythe exclaimed. "Well, sorry for intruding. Have a good rest of your day, and if you need help, don't hesitate to give me a call, I can even provide safety for Angela if you ever need it."
"I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Thank you." Mifune said.
Scythe went to where Wendy was behind the pillar, and found her sitting there clutching her shoulder in pain.
"I'm guessing it's more than just sore." Scythe chuckled, picking her up, bridal style.
"Sorry, but yeah. I just didn't want you to worry about me, it would have distracted you from the fight." Wendy said, wrapping her uninjured arm around Scythe's neck.
"Hey, you're my wife. I'm gonna worry no matter what." Scythe smiled, adoring her kindness and sweetness, before using the Celestial Knight's teleportation technique to return to the school, dropping by in front of the infirmary. "Knock-knock, sorry for the intrusion." Scythe said, opening the door.
"Oh, no please come in." The nurse said, looking up at them. "You two must be the new students I was told about. I'm Ms. Medusa, how can I help?"
Medusa wore a black, open leg dress with two silver arrows around the hips, and low rise heels, with a white doctor's coat over her clothes, but left open.
"Thanks, we're actually just needing for the wound in Wendy's shoulder to be patched up. She got shot by Al Capone. We just got back from that mission, and took care of him." Scythe explained as he set Wendy down on one of the beds.
"Oh dear, here let me have a listen to her heart." Medusa said, pulling her stethoscope out, and giving Wendy's chest a listen. "Well, your pulse seems to be stable, so that tells me you're not hiding your panic, now let's get that wound looked at."
"Scythe, why don't you go report to Lord Death about the mission? I'll be fine here." Wendy suggested.
"You sure Wendy?" Scythe asked.
"I'm sure. Get going you big lug." Wendy smiled kissing his cheek.
"All right, I'll be back to check on you in a bit." Scythe said, before leaving.
"My, young love, how romantic." Medusa smiled, grabbing some disinfectant, and gauze patches. "How long have you two been together, and how did you meet?"
"We've been together for a few months now." Wendy said. "We met kind of suddenly actually. I was on a burning ship with my best friend Carla, after we found out the man who hired us, was actually a human trafficker. He tried to keep us quite by sinking his ship with us on it, but Scythe saw the burning ship and came aboard, despite the risks to his own safety, and then… he saved Carla and I both from the wreckage before the gas tank on the ship caused an explosion."
"My, your very own knight in shining armor." Medusa smiled. "Anything else happen that day?"
"We went on our first date at the amusement park by the resort we were both staying at for the time. He was actually on vacation, while I was working, but since it was a bust, I had some free time on my hands, and a room that had all expenses paid for, Carla was still in our room recovering so it was just Scythe and I."
"How adorable." Medusa smiled. "So where are you two now in your relationship?"
"I don't see any reason to tell that to a witch."
Medusa froze when she went to reach for the medicine in the cabinet.
"You might be hiding your soul's true nature, but I can still smell the magic radiating off of you. I'm sure Scythe has smelt it to, we're both dragons after all." Wendy said.
"Well it seems I've been found out earlier than expected." Medusa said, letting her true nature show. "So what happens now? Am I gonna be under arrest, or am I going to be killed and have my soul devoured by your lover?"
"Neither." Wendy said.
"Excuse me?" Medusa asked, turning to look at Wendy, a confused expression on her face.
"Scythe and I feel bad that we don't have to hide our true natures from anyone here at the academy. We might not know what you're true purpose for being here is, but so long as you keep treating the injured or sick, without causing trouble, you won't be reported to the teachers or Lord Death. Is that understood?" Wendy asked.
"So let me get this straight, so long as I keep playing the, goodie-goodie I've been personifying myself as, I can still live, and make a normal living and life for myself?" Medusa clarified.
"Don't all witches want to live in peace?" Wendy asked.
"Most do, but we're in constant fear of the DWMA. I myself gave up on having a normal life, a long time ago." Medusa sighed. "If you're showing me this much mercy, then it must mean you've got high hopes for me and my loyalty."
"Do we have a deal or not?" Wendy asked. "You can either live a comfortable and normal life here, or you can live on the run in fear of the DWMA again, your choice."
"Fine, I suppose it's better than living on the run." Medusa sighed. "We have a deal."
"Good." Wendy said, as Medusa finished patching her up.
"All right, you're free to go, just be sure to apply disinfectant on it twice a day, once in the morning after you shower, and once at night before you head to bed." Medusa said, giving her a prescribed ointment.
"Thanks Dr. Medusa." Wendy smiled, heading out of the doctor's office.
Once enough time had passed, Medusa's face twisted into a sinister smile.
'Fool, your threats and promises mean nothing to me. I've come too far in my research and plans to give up now, just because you promise to keep me safe.' Medusa thought. 'But I'll play my part, and be nice, until the time for my plan to be executed arrives.'
Down the hall, Wendy was readjusting her top to a comfortable position over the bandages, before she stopped when she caught up with Scythe, as he was leaning on the wall, eating a piece of strawberry licorice.
"So, how'd it go?" Scythe asked, offering her a piece.
"She took the bait, just like you said she would." Wendy exclaimed, taking the licorice with a smile. "She's pretending to trust me, which tells us that she's still going to follow through with her original plans, depending on what they actually are."
"All that's left to do now, is figure out what she's planning, and stop her in her tracks." Scythe smiled. "I love it when a plan comes together."
~End of the Week~
"Scythe, Wendy, you ready to head back to Earthland?" Mira asked, as the duo were sitting at the dining room table. "The S-Class Trials start tomorrow."
"We're ready, we're just needing a minute to wake up." Wendy yawned, as Mira put a cup of coffee down in front of them.
"Tell me again why we're returning the day before the trials start?" Scythe inquired as he poured some creamer into his coffee.
"So we can go and help prepare the island for the trials." Mirajane explained.
"Right." Scythe said. "Alright, let's get this show on the road."
"Hey mom, what are you gonna do about your shift over the next couple days?" Wendy asked. 'I still find it weird calling her that.'
"I've got someone covering for me, it's that nice Tsugumi girl you sent the master's way." Mira exclaimed.
"Hmm, sounds like she's doing real well as a waitress at Deathbucks." Wendy smiled. "We go there every day after school to study."
"Helps that every time we go there, we get a 50% discount for friends and family since mom works there." Scythe added.
"We all ready to go?" Mira asked.
"You know it mom." Scythe smiled.
"Then let's go." Mira smiled, as the three of the disappeared in a flash of light, before Mira reappeared and locked the apartment door, and windows, while also turning off the stove. "Silly me." She said disappearing in another flash of light.
~Fiore~
"It's freezing." Wendy said shivering as the three of them appeared in the middle of the snowy streets of Fiore.
"It is December." Scythe chuckled. "Rarity did make us some coats to go along with these uniforms." Scythe exclaimed, pulling them out of the Celestial Armory, and handing Wendy hers.
"Ah, nice and cozy warm." Wendy smiled pulling the thin looking jacket on.
"Apparently she made yours with Fire Lacrima infused into the fabric, since you don't have a naturally high body temperature like I do." Scythe smiled.
"That was nice of her." Wendy smiled. "She must have done the same thing with my stockings, since my legs don't feel cold at all."
"She must have." Scythe chuckled. "Okay, so you have your key to the house right?"
"Yep." Wendy said, pulling it from under her right vambrace.
"We really need to add some pouches to these outfits or something." Scythe chuckled. "Okay, I'll see you at the island tomorrow."
"I'll miss you until then." Wendy smiled, giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek, before running off for the house.
"Ready to go to the island?" Mira asked.
"As ready as I'll ever be." Scythe said, as they both entered Satan's Soul and flew away.
"I just gotta make a quick stop at the guild first, Master is gonna be making the official announcement of who'll be participating this year to the rest of the guild." Mira exclaimed.
"Go ahead, I'll meet you at the island." Scythe exclaimed.
~Ship to Tenrou Island, Next Morning~
"Oh, why is it so hot?" Lucy whined sitting in a chair in her white and pink flower bikini. "What's it snowing the other day? Feels like my skin's gonna melt off. I'd love to turn into a Popsicle, but Happy would just eat me."
"I think I'll pass." Happy exclaimed.
"Lu, I know it's ridiculously warm, but do you have to sit like that?" Levy asked sitting at a table with Cana waving herself off with a fan, and Wendy, just lying her head on the table.
"You think it's warm? It's like, freaking boiling here, year round 'cause there's never any wind." Cana exclaimed.
"Eh… Scythe could just cool me off with his ice slayer magic no problem." Wendy groaned.
"So hot." Happy groaned.
"My Kingdom for an ice cream cone." Lucy whined, sounding like she was having a fever dream.
"Kingdom?" Happy asked.
"Alright we get it, it's a scorcher. Talk about something else." Gajeel groaned.
"Juvia, aren't you hot wearing that? You're gonna get heatstroke." Lisanna said, turning to look at her S-Class candidate partner.
"No I'm perfectly fine, however, one thing that might do it…" Juvia began before her eyes turned into hearts, as she starred at Grey, who was wearing nothing but his signature silver necklace, in a chair, trying to stay cool. "… is the sight of my beloved Grey's naked body."
"I'm dying here." Grey groaned.
"That's still no reason for you to strip naked." Velvet said, tossing a cold blanket on top of him.
"So this is what hell is like." Natsu groaned as he was feeling motion sick and walked over to the edge of the ship, where Loki was sitting, fully clothed, and unaffected by the heat.
"Yo, point that puke cannon somewhere else bro." Loki exclaimed.
"It wouldn't be so bad, if Wendy or Scythe cast that miracle spell on me again." Natsu groaned, before barfing over the edge of the ship.
"You can't blame them though. I mean she is technically your enemy, and Scythe is in charge of the camp on the island where the losers wait for the trials to end." Loki said.
"Sorry Natsu, hang in there." Wendy exclaimed.
"Well isn't this touching, here they are about to engage each other in brutal combat, and they're being all, buddy-buddy." Evergreen said, sitting in a chair near Elfman, waving her fan to cool her off.
"Ah, I'm roasting. I'm like a man steak." Elfman groaned.
"Would you mind roasting away from me?" Evergreen asked.
'Scythe called it, Elfman and Evergreen partnered up for the trials. I can't believe it actually happened.' Wendy thought.
"Hey Happy, turn into a popsicle." Lucy groaned.
"I'd just taste like dried fish and regret." Happy said.
"At this point I'd put anything in my mouth as long as it's cold." Lucy said, before bending her head back. Upon opening her eyes she spotted Tenrou Island.
"We've arrived." Loki said.
"Ah." Lisanna was in awe of the place.
"Whoa, it's weird looking." Grey said. "Sure took us long enough."
"That's the ugliest island ever." Lucy said.
"You think? Looks kinda manly to me." Elfman said.
"An island on top of an island, huh?" Cana questioned.
"It's amazing." Wendy stated, in total awe of it. "So much magic power, I can feel it from all the way over here."
"Very impressive." Velvet smiled.
Natsu was just trying his hardest not to puke his guts out everywhere.
"Don't worry, we'll be on land soon." Happy said, patting his partner's back.
"There's a legend about this place." Makarov said, from his spot on the ship. "That it was once populated by fairies."
"Is the legend true?" Lucy asked.
"Nobody knows, but it is of great importance to our guild." Makarov stated. "The resting place of our first master, Mavis Vermillion."
"An' you're going there dressed like that?" Grey questioned.
"Said the nudist to the stylish man." Makarov said, bringing out a fan and waving itself at him.
"Speaking of which, mind putting some clothes on?" Lucy asked.
"Anything else? I'd like to reveal the first round of your trial, if I may?" Makarov asked.
"There's more than one round?" Wendy asked.
"If any of Master Makarov's events were ever deemed simple, he'd probably keel over and die of a heart attack." Velvet said to her partner.
"Please direct your attention to the smoke coming from the shore. Your first task will be to head to its source." Makarov explained. "Once there, you will choose one of the eight roots leading into the island. Each is meant for a single team only, so don't doddle and pick one. After you've made your choice, you will have to conquer these obstacles." Makarov said as a screen of magic appeared, and it revealed that some routes lead to combat, while other lead to different trials, while three of them lead to either Gildarts, Erza, or Mirajane.
"Let's hope we don't run into Mira. I don't think fighting your mother in law would make for a good story to tell around the thanksgiving table." Velvet whispered to Wendy, who nodded with a nervous smile, in agreement.
"Teams that make it through these tests in one peace will advance and make it to the second round." Makarov stated.
"Whoa." Natsu said, temporarily over his motion sickness.
"That last one is fighting S-Classers." Grey said. "Intense combat no joke."
"Yeah, right." Lucy said.
"What's the serenity route?" Loki asked.
"Combat routes are self-explanatory. Two teams clash, but only one moves on, use every power at your disposal." Makarov explained. "Intense combat routes are more difficult, find yourself on these, and you'll be fighting one of Fairy Tail's elite. On the serenity route, you'll pass the first round, without fighting, but you will still be tested. Passing this challenge, requires quality teamwork, and a whole lot of luck."
"Let's count on good luck, right?" Lucy asked.
"Even as a gambler, I think that strategy blows. With one in eight odds, be ready to brawl." Cana exclaimed.
"If I've done the math correctly, only a maximum of six teams will make it to the next round." Evergreen said.
"This sucks. If we pick the routes with the S-Classes, we're gonna get a manly pounding." Elfman stated.
"You're no real man, you're a real wimp." Evergreen exclaimed.
"The first round could be the end of us, I don't wanna have to fight a bunch of my friends." Levy said as Gajeel used her like an arm rest.
"Sounds great to me. I've been looking for an excuse to punch one of these fools." Gajeel smiled.
"Yeah I know." Levy said.
"All right, you ready? Your trial starts right now." Makarov shouted.
"What?" Grey asked.
"Hold up, it starts before we get on the island?" Loki asked.
Makarov just smiled devilishly, as he was planning on enjoying this year's trials.
"I'd get a move on if I were you. Wendy and Velvet have already left the ship, and are probably already on the island."
"What?" Everyone else asked, looking around to see Wendy wasn't on the ship anymore.
"Where'd she go?" Grey asked.
"She probably used her Celestial Knight Teleportation abilities to hop from the ship to the island." Lisanna said.
"Well the Master did say to use every power we have to our disposal." Evergreen said, before turning to Elfman. "Your nephew is a reckless and bad influence on that girl."
"Hey don't blame my nephew for this. She's a Celestial Knight, she probably learned this from my mother in the Celestial Armory." Elfman exclaimed. "She was always the tricky type, even father had a hard time predicting what she'd do next."
"Alright Happy, you know what that means. Time to jet." Natsu said, putting his backpack on.
~Tenrou Island Campsite~
"Oh man, time to get to work on food for those who come to the campsite." Scythe exclaimed, stretching after enjoying a nap, before pulling out his portable communications Lacrima, remembering the call he got from Velvet a couple hours ago.
{"Scythe, it's Velvet calling."}
{"What's up Velvet?"} Scythe asked. {"Did you manage to keep that Mest guy away from Wendy?"}
{"I did, she accepted my offer to be her partner before Mest could even offer his services."} Velvet replied.
{"I can't believe the new magic council would stoop so low as to send a spy into our guild. I guess it's a blessing in disguise he didn't know how long you've been a member of the guild. Memory manipulation magic can only go so far. I appreciate you alerting me to his plans."} Scythe exclaimed.
{"It's no problem at all Scythe. I'm just glad to help out any way I can. But I have a sneaking suspicion that he's still gonna make it to the guild somehow, so if I'm correct about this, I've instructed Pantherlilly and Carla to come for the island, if they can't find him anywhere at the guildhall. We just left the Port Town Hargeon, and are making our way to the island as we speak."}
{"That's good, keep me posted."} Scythe smiled.
After that, the call ended, and Scythe went to take a nap to calm his anger.
"Just what the hell are you up to Gran Doma?" Scythe questioned, gritting his teeth in anger.
