Whenever I find a Kagome/Kikyo fic on here its nearly always a rivarly between InuKag/InuKik fans. While I have my dislike of Kagome, I do wish there were more fics around Kikyo/Kagome forming a friendship. So I rectified it

Kagome shifted, she never thought she would be stuck in a more awkward moment in her entire life. It seemed she and Kikyo seemed to run into each other unintentionally these days. Despite the fact she had no reason to harbour hostility towards Kikyo, she couldn't help but feel a sense of conflict when around the older woman. She knew Kikyo was a part of InuYasha's past, that once upon a time Kikyo had been the love of InuYasha's life, willing to discard his demon nature for her to live as a human. That she and Kikyo shared a connection, shared a soul, the only difference being the era in which they were born and the environments in which they were raised. If consequences had been different, Kagome and Kikyo could have been more alike. The soul within her had once loved Inuyasha, still loved InuYasha, transcending through time, forever bound by the red string of fate. Kikyo was a prominent priestess during her life, far stronger than any other priestess during her life. The only other priestesses to harbour that kind of power were Midoriko and Hitomiko had Naraku not cursed her. She was responsible for the sealing of InuYasha to the sacred tree and the beads of subjugation. The beads InuYasha wore had been forged by Kikyo, Kaede summoning them to bind InuYasha so he could no longer use the jewel to his advantage. She wondered how long Kaede had been holding onto those beads, that her sister had told her of the power they held. Keeping them safe in case InuYasha was ever to return. Kikyo's spiritual power was focused on the beads, the power which Kagome had inherited. She wondered if InuYasha's hatred of them also came from the fact Kikyo had been the one to create them. "Kaede told me the one who forged the beads of subjugation was you," Kagome asked hesitantly
Kikyo laughed in amusement, a bittersweet memory flashed through her mind, her soul aching with longing and sadness. Though her soul had been polluted by the negativity of her death, frozen in time, she had been able to heal, remember, reflecting on her life, of the happier moments of her life before she was murdered by Naraku. These memories she was able to hold close to her heart, allowing her to remember she hadn't always felt this bitterness, she had once been happy. A blast from the past, a brief moment where she had lowered her guard to InuYasha for the first time, learning to trust him. The day InuYasha gifted her with the shell beni belonging to his mother, possibly he hoped to see her wear it, to know she meant something to him. She remembered how shocked she had been when he informed her the rouge belonged to Izayoi. Tenderly stroking his robe of the fire rat, filled with guilt at damaging it with her arrows. She couldn't bring herself to give InuYasha the beads, it felt too cruel, a moment of vulnerability and kindness from InuYasha. She held the rouge close to her heart, though she never wore it in front of the villagers, she remembered it dearly. She thought the beads would have been destroyed upon her death, there was no reason for them, InuYasha was bound to the tree in eternal sleep. "Ah yes, your control of InuYasha" she teased, keeping the half breed under her her thrall so he couldn't betray her.
"Did… did you ever consider using them against InuYasha?" Kagome asked, she knew Kikyo had been forced to make many difficult choices during her time as priestess of her village. If she was the original owner of the beads surely she had considered it. She knew how stubborn and rowdy InuYasha could be, once he had been the villain in many people's lives. Surely for the sake of protecting her people Kikyo would have been forced to use her power against InuYasha. Imagining Kikyo using the beads against InuYasha, it felt like a dream.
Kikyo smiled fondly, a look of love formed on her face causing a twinge of jealousy in Kagome "During my first meeting with InuYasha, his desire to claim the jewel as his own was incessant. So the beads were my backup plan to keep him away from the jewel should he ever attempt to steal it" Kikyo pressed. She had never sensed any ill intent from InuYasha, most of his actions had seemed like a cry for attention. Getting into mischief as to gain her focus as a way of amusing himself. Kikyo could remember all the times she had scolded InuYasha for wasting her time, but over time she came to enjoy his company. She had planned to use the beads to teach him a lesson, preventing him from getting near the temple or the jewel, though it never came to pass. But she was never brave enough to give them to him, she had sensed the kindness in his heart and his genuine desire to abandon his obsession with the jewel. So InuYasha remained free, loyally standing beside her without need of them. Had she given Inuyasha the beads, she could have noticed the false InuYasha, noticing that he was missing his sacred charm of obedience. That the beads wouldn't have worked on him, proving him to be an impostor. Then Naraku would have never stolen the jewel, that his schemes would have never come to fruition. That perhaps she could have lived and they wouldn't have been torn apart, living in peace together as they wished. She knew InuYasha sought a place of belonging in the world, hoping to use the jewel to become a full demon and earn the respect of his brother. Kikyo had loved him just the way he was regardless. But, she knew how the jewel could corrupt others and she didn't want that to happen to InuYasha, or she hoped it wouldn't. Even now his desire to become a full demon wavered.
Kagome stared at her incarnation in awe, she felt like she was truly beginning to understand Kikyo's mentality just a little better. She was no enemy, she wasn't a villain, all of her actions had an outcome which were good intentions. A wave of pity formed inside her, she knew Kikyo loved InuYasha but never to this extent, how far she was willing to go to protect him and saw the potential in him. Even fifty years ago Kikyo never wanted Inuyasha dead, she never wished harm upon him, the beads would have merely hindered him, preventing him from hurting others and teaching him a lesson as to not steal from the village. She had wished to use a spell to keep him at bay and would have possibly handed down to Kaede when she came of age, keeping the jewel out of InuYasha's reach and thus not being forced to kill him. She was truly a kind person, given how many people spoke fondly of her fifty years later, she got the feeling Kikyo had never been a wicked person. But that still left questions in her mind "What word did you have in mind?" she pressed curiously. Kagome had chosen hers at the moment while being chased by said dog demon, she hadn't had a lot of time to think, he was willing to rip her to pieces for the jewel. While on a bridge before he could snatch the jewel, Kagome had taken in his appearance, she had chosen the word sit because of his ears, reminding her of a dog. Though it was now an endearing term of teasing, once upon a time InuYasha had seen it as a pain. However, she couldn't change the words, so it just stuck.
Kikyo blushed, her pale cheeks flushing with colour to match her hakama pants, her fingers fiddled on her lap as she averted her gaze. She realised how tender the words had been, embarrassed to mention them to her younger reincarnation, it felt personal, private, secret. Kagome had never seen the older female blush before, finally acting her age, sometimes she forgot Kikyo had been eighteen upon her death. Kikyo bit her lip before she bravely found her voice "Beloved…" she muttered shyly. Kagome gasped in surprise, of all the words Kikyo could have used this was the one she least expected. She would have assumed it to be something intense, scary or foreboding. But it was nothing like she imagined, wondering if she had misheard Kikyo.
Beloved?
It sounded so Tsundere, the perfect word to use against InuYasha to catch him off guard in a fight then surprise him with subjugation. She could imagine Kikyo using the word on InuYasha with a playful smile, while InuYasha would become a blushing stubborn mess. She really loved InuYasha. Seeing the older female so flustered upon this memory, she couldn't help but give in to the urge to tease Kikyo a little. When would she get the chance again? It didn't come from a place of ill intent, mere female bonding. "So… since I'm your reincarnation and we share the same soul, do you think the beads would work for you too?" Kagome asked. Though she meant it as a joke, she had considered this seriously for some time, whether the power of the beads was linked to Kikyo too. She could only imagine Kikyo using the words sit on InuYasha, how their friends would react to it. She tried not to laugh at the thought.
Kikyo blinked, she and Kagome shared the same soul and the same power, but she had never considered how alike they may be. Whether her power still had some effect on InuYasha despite her being a spectre. The idea was amusing, she had never had the chance to test the beads on him when she was alive. Feeling as though she was missing out on the chance to tease him a little "Are you asking me to punish InuYasha?" she questioned. Her resentment and grudge against InuYasha had dissipated upon learning the truth of her death, though the conflict and bitterness of knowing she could never be with him again still remained. The thought of causing InuYasha harm, or anyone else harming him forged a hatred and rage she couldn't express in mere words. Such as when she threatened Tsubaki's life upon learning that she used Kagome as a pawn to kill InuYasha.
"Just for fun" Kagome suggested, she doubted Kikyo had the chance to act like a teenager in her life. The playful immaturity, option for mistakes and just being carefree. She wanted Kikyo to have that chance, to be able to allow her soul to heal. Plus, watching Kikyo use the beads on InuYasha was a memory she needed to see so she could reflect on it in the future. She was sure her travelling companions were also curious.
"Are you asking me to use the beads against him to test your theory?" Kikyo pressed, she knew Kagome had inherited her intellect and mischievous nature. Their mutual ability to form schemes, sulk and hold grudges due to their shared soul. Kagome's plan did sound like something she would do, different schemes, merely to test a theory. Kagome nodded. A mischievous smile formed on the older female's lips, her brown eyes lighting up with delight "very well, I accept your proposal" Kikyo agreed. She couldn't pass up this opportunity and Kagome had given her permission, so she was not enacting a grudge or another form of action seen as villainy. Kagome smiled, she didn't need to tell InuYasha about this, this would remain her little secret with Kikyo. The two of them plotting a harmless prank together, despite the Hanyou's dislike of being teased, Kami only knew how he would react. But she knew it would be so much fun, she couldn't help herself. She just hoped he wouldn't hate her for going behind his back like this.
Inuyasha felt a chill run down his spine, something in his gut telling him he was in trouble, when he knew something bad was going to happen. Like when Kagome was mad at him, or when he sensed something was wrong, when an enemy was waiting to ambush. He didn't like this feeling, it made his skin crawl, like he was walking on eggshells. He had a feeling that Kagome was plotting something, Kikyo too, the two of them were more alike than they realised sometimes. Kikyo had always been a fiercely intelligent woman, far beyond her years, though her methods were different, Kagome was equally as smart. Somehow they were working together, concocting a scheme against him, but what? He didn't like this feeling, he didn't like the gnawing fear in his gut, perhaps he would do well to avoid Kagome for a while until he felt safe she wasn't mad at him. Something was brewing on the horizon, he could feel it. He would need to watch his back for the foreseeable future.
"Hey InuYasha, why are you acting all ansty?" Shippo asked curiously, he was more on edge than usual
InuYasha shifted "I... Kagome, I think she's planning something, her and Kikyo are together" he mumbled hesitantly. Maybe he would do best to hide until Kagome went back to her world again, then he could ask Kikyo in person.
Miroku nodded in understanding "Kagome does have a temper on her, you've tested her patience more than enough times" he reflected. InuYasha could do with being more sensitive around her, the same patience he showed towards Kikyo.
InuYasha shot a glare at Miroku accusingly "I'll take advice from you when you stop womanising" he scoffed. At least he was loyal to one woman, reincarnation and all. He'd lost count of how many women Miroku had seduced. But he worried, while Kikyo and Kagome bonding wasn't a bad thing, he got the feeling they were influencing each other in the worst way. Worried of what the outcome would mean for him.
