I felt like I was getting back to normal... it had been a few days since the incident. The swelling has gone away for the most part. I wasn't really using the sling as much. Phil had to go to a show tonight so he flew out leaving just me and AJ. I was grateful for Phil because he had met with Tony when I got hurt. Tony had already put out new restrictions on seeing each other, how to handle someone who is giving you a problem, and reiterated that there was zero tolerance for that kind of behavior. I had gone to the cops and pressed charges, Michael was being held without bond, and I really just wanted this all behind me. I still had moments in the loft since it happened there.
"Come on, the beach will be good for you." AJ said as she tried to convince me to go with her. I was still bandaged and I didn't want to be seen, but she might have been right.
"Fine." I said and went to change into a bikini and dress.
AJ POV
I was glad that Rae had finally agreed. She needed to get out of the house, and Shaun was coming. He had asked to take her to the beach. I thought it was a great idea. He had texted me that he was almost there when I was trying to convince her to get ready. I was texting Phil when there was a knock at the door.
"Who the fuck?" Rae said and I started laughing because a few people had stopped by over the last few days. Max brought her a giant stuff unicorn, Daniel had stopped by every day, and Tony even came by to check on me.
"Calm down." I said back and opened the door. Shaun was in swim trunks and tank top. He was carrying a dozen roses, and looked happy to see there.
"She's cranky." I warned him and he chuckled.
"She's allowed to be." he said and I smirked.
"I hope there are drinks at this beach." Rae said as she came pulling the dress the rest of the way over her head.
"There can be." Shaun said and she stopped in her tracks as she looked up. He was smiling at her and she was looking at him as if he didn't exist.
"Hi." she finally said.
"Hi, I hope you don't mind, but I came to see how you are doing." He said and she gave a small smile as he handed her the roses.
"Thank you." she said and I saw her blush. I took the roses from her as Shaun offer her his arm. She grabbed her bag, slipped on sandals and actually left smiling. I texted Phil and thankfully he wasn't as ass about it. He seemed happy for her.
Shaun POV
I was glad to see Rae. Aj had said that she had taken it hard, and I understood why. She still had a bandage on her forehead, and some on her hand. I didn't even know Michael, but I didn't like the guy. People in WWE had heard about the attack and those who knew Rae were upset for her.
"Come on, I will drive." I said and she raised an eyebrow over her sunglasses.
"It's two blocks." she said and I chuckled.
"I don't want you hurting." I said and she scoffed.
"Too late for that one... come on." she said as I grabbed some towels and a back pack. She took my arm again and we walked in the warm sunshine to the beach. I didn't realize that she lived so close to it. We got to the beach, and laid our towels out. She pulled out sunscreen after pulling her dress off. She was in a simple one piece navy swimsuit that didn't reveal too much, but showed off her curves.
"Can you help me?" she asked me and I chuckled as I took the sunscreen. I sprayed it on her back and rubbed it over her shoulders. I heard a small moan when I did and saw a bruise on her shoulder. I helped her finish.
"Do you need some?" she asked me.
"LA Knight is supposed to be tan." I said and she smirked.
"But Shaun can get skin cancer." she shot back and I chuckled. I took the sunscreen and she put some on my back. I enjoyed the feeling of her hands on my back.
"Thanks for coming to see me." she said after a few minutes of watching the waves crash on the beach.
"I wanted to when I heard you got hurt." I said and she nodded.
"I... like you, Rae." I admitted and she looked at me surprised.
"No." she said and I chuckled at that response. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't that.
"Yes." I said back and she smirked.
"I honestly don't know what to say. You are nice, and fun, and live on the other side of the country." she said and I nodded.
"Yeah, I do... but I would like to keep talking to you." I said and she nodded.
"Are you opposed to that?" I asked her when she didn't say anything for a second.
"Shaun, I just got the shit beat out of me by an obsessive ex... forgive me if I don't know what to actually say to that." she retorted and I hadn't even thought of that.
"You're right... I apologize. I just really like you." I said and she nodded. I felt like I had just fucked up.
"Besides... I just want to talk to you... not fuck you." I finally said and she couldn't hold back a laugh.
"Ah, you laughed... I'm off the hook." I said and she started laughing again.
"Shut up." she said and I smiled at her.
We sat on the beach in a comfortable silence and talked about different things. We were mostly people watching as she would point out different things. She really was fun to be around.
"Come on, I'm starving." she said and stood up. I stood up and helped pick up our stuff. She shoved her towel in her bag and I followed suit before following her down the beach. I finally grabbed her hand and she didn't pull away as she lead me to where she wanted to go. We ended up at Poe's Tavern.
"You want a burger?" I asked her and she nodded.
"I do, but I also love Poe." she said and I smiled at her.
We sat and ate while sipping on beers. She really wasn't like most other girls worrying about eating salads, sipping wine, taking instagram pictures. She dove right in and ate her burger. I was impressed. I got ready to pay and she cut me off.
"No, I invited you to this date." she said and I chuckled. I had never had a woman who wanted to pay her own way or split it like she just had. She knew that she could survive on her own. She had already fought off a guy half her size.
Rae POV
Shaun and I had fun at the beach and eating lunch. He was fun to talk to and you couldn't help but feel energized around him. I couldn't believe that he had admitted to liking me. I was a seamstress turned talent relations who was a disaster of a human being most days.
"Can I be where you are?" Shaun asked me as he took my hand while we walked back from the tavern.
"Did Phil or AJ pay you come see me?" I finally asked him and he abruptly stopped walking.
"No, why do you think that?" he asked me as if I had just insulted him. I sighed and looked at him. He was too good and too perfect to like me.
"Because there is no way you like me. You don't like people like me... you like super models with 6 packs." I said and he pursed his lips.
"How do you know what I like?" he asked me.
"Because I know your type." I said as I walked away from him. I knew that there was no way that someone like him could like someone like me.
I walked back to the loft and I could hear him following me.
"You don't have to walk me back." I said and he shook his lips. He grabbed my wrist and I lost it. I was just imagining Michael pulling me back to him. I needed to get away from him.
"LET GO OF ME." I hissed at him and he froze. I stumbled away from him and into the elevator. I left him standing there stunned. I wanted far away from him.
I got up to my floor and ran into my condo past a very confused AJ. I headed straight into the bathroom. I emptied everything in my stomach. I was trying to control my breathing, and calm myself down. I was mad at myself right now, and upset.
AJ POV
I watched as Rae ran into the apartment and lock herself into the bathroom. I had no idea where Shaun was, but she looked very upset. I got ready to knock on the door when I heard the front door open. I looked back to see a very confused Shaun.
"Is she ok?" I asked him and he sighed.
"She got upset, and started to walk away from me. I grabbed her wrist to stop her, and I didn't think about it. She screamed at me, and ran away." he said and I sighed as I heard her throwing up again. I nodded.
"Maybe you should go." I said and he looked upset at himself and the situation.
"She probably didn't mean to act like that, but it's been a week for her." I said to try and show him it wasn't his fault. He nodded and slowly left. I looked back at the door as I now heard her sobbing. I knew that Shaun hadn't meant to hurt her, but fuck he had just set her back days in her recovery.
