History of Overlord:
Chapter 1:
A/N: I don't own Overlord, it is owned by Kugane Maruyamaor any other characters, locations or items I use in my story. thank you this is my first fanfic so go easy. I'm a big fan of overlord and its lore so I thought to make a timeline like fire and blood or a codex from warhammer 40k. So a heads up I'm going to be adding in characters from other anime, video games, etc. So if there is something not said in the Lightnovel and Webnovel I made it up.
If you are reading this then you are joining the supreme council of the slane theocracy. So you must know the true history of our world and the travellers to our world. So there are many places we could start with the 13 Heroes and the Evil Deities, the Eight Greed Kings, but let's start at the begining in the Age of Gods about 600 years ago. Now as you know the dates we use is BEC and AEC, Before Eight's Conquest and After Eight's Conquest named because of the Eight Greed Kings conquering the continent.
Now as you should know that that is before we had a common dating system, which is because of the Eight Greed Kings after they conquered the continent. Now the Age of Gods was also known by another name which is the first convergence which is where the first puh-layer's and their en-pii-see, magic and weapons appeared. Now the ones in the first group were the Six Great Gods, but to know them is essential to get to the rank you are but there is much that the public is not allowed to know about. Like how there were seven puh-layer's not six, but the Seventh which is the only thing we know him by but when they meet normal humans. So when they found humanity he found a simple farm girl and had a family which is how the Green family was born. One of the richest and most influential families in the Slane Theocracy.
Quote from the Seventh "I am nowhere near as powerful as you guys, I was just here so you guys could show me around for the last day, but now I'm here I'll make the best of a bad situation so have fun without me."
From what we have learnt about them before they found us, was that they were in the other world they called Yggdrasil or as you may call it The Great Heavens where the Gods came from and where they went. Now this is a lie as you know the Six Great Gods are dead and are not coming back, no matter what the crazy cultists talk about Surshana. Now there are many stories about about the gods how they 'appeared in the middle of a village of humans where they had a sword and knighted a young boy and he was the first paladin' or 'how there was the last village of humans that was under attack by a legion of demi-humans and heteromorphic races were about to wipe out humanity when they appeared and save us'. Now these and even more ridiculous stories of them but we do have the definitive story from one of the Gods themselves Surshana told us in his memoir. The fact is that most information about the Six Great Gods is from Surshana's memoir called Soul of Dark.
The Six Great Gods were 6 individuals who saved humanity and gave us a chance to thrive. The first of the gods was the one of wind Kikotenshin Nekonya 'The Grand Champion' who wore a white and gold lined armour with a spear. The god of fire was a beautiful woman with long flowing blonde hair, pale skin with copper coloured armour wielding 2 silver swords. Her name was Naiki The Blonde Lion of Battle. Unlike gods, for him the god of earth was almost completely naked for his whole life dressed in a loincloth, a wolf head that flowed down his back like a cape and various trinkets covering him, his skin was tanned bronze like a farmour. His name was Ururikku The Great Wolf and was the second strongest of the gods. The god of water was Anbari The Priestess of Water and wore Downfall of Castle and Country a white dress with a gold dragon down the front, which is a world item able to control anything no matter what and had a staff. Now we have the two gods that if this were to get out would cripple the theocracy, the god of light and darkness. The god of light was an elf, which as all should know we are at war with because the kidnap and raped of one of our Godkin by there filthy king Decem Hougan. The god Alah Alaf The Sun's Ray was a mage with magic focused on light magic. Now last but not list Sushana The Cloaked Void the strongest of the Six great gods and the most inhuman of them for Surshana was a elder lich and not just any a overlord with great power over death and darkness, he wore a jet black robe that draped his large body in darkness and held a sparkling staff in his hand.
The story starts in one of the most ordinary places in a forest near the elf country, which could have led to the extinction of humanity but they moved towards what would be the Slane Theocracy. One of the holiest places in the Theocracy is the Barudazu Geto, named by the god of wind Kikotenshin Nekonyan after a place where humans and others stand together, oh how in those days there was so much hope in those days. It was a small village that had less than a hundred people then and another twelve villages within a fifty kilometre radius and that was it, all of them about to be wiped out by a now extinct race called Ursis.
Quote from Kikotenshin Nekonyan at the founding of Barudazu Geto "Hay I think…This is a new beginning. We were in Yggdrasil to be heroes so why not be true heroes, so let's make a place where everyone can stand together. Hey, maybe we could find some gnomes and dwarfs so we can have some real fun."
They were a very powerful race of demi-humans with white furried upper body with a dark grey lower furried body, with razor sharp claws, 2 sets of tusks, with six horns, green eyes and purple skin. They were incredibly strong for nowadays, for example for how strong they were, a death knight was as strong as their civilians and their king was as strong as a Doom lord, but back in those days those were a mid-level race in the hierarchy. It was in those days before the Eight Greed kings killed most of the threats to the weaker races, so they thrive.
It was two weeks after the Six Great Gods arrived at the village nearest to the mountains that are now named the Sekai no hashi no sangaku chitai where the Ursis came from after wiping out a dwarf city. The Ursis were a carnivore race whose favourite food is things that can scream and talk back. The gods moved towards the destroyed village after hearing about it, and it only took an hour to get there to study what happened and where the Ursis took the people. When they were attacked by a scouting party and a fight broke out which was with the eight of them taking on the gods, they thought they were just normal humans but they were the gods.
Quote from Soul of Dark "That was the first time I killed anything, and I felt nothing because as I realised later I was truly undead in mind and body. But my friends Kikotenshin Nekonyan and Naiki threw up after and Anbari started crying. Both Uruikku and Alah Alaf were just standing around thinking about what they just did. At that moment I thought nothing just happened and they were overreacting, they were monsters they needed to die."
After they killed the scouts and ran towards where the Ursis came from, which was the mountain range. The gods were able to find the main tribe of the Ursis at the foot of the mountain where they had just finished eating the last of the people taken. At the site of the corpse of the innocent people Naiki who is known as the most passionate of the gods for protecting the innocent. She killed about seven of them before the other gods joined. From Surshana said that Uric used his hands and the tattoos to increased his stats to kill the Ursis every couple seconds, Naiki used her skill to increase her stats as long she keeps fighting and last to jump in was Kikotenshin Nekonya using his speed to stab and slice through like a hot knife through butter. While the three close combat fighters jumped in, the three magic wilders used their power to both boost their friends and attack their enemies. But there were too many of them and it only took a couple of minutes to realise it and ran but not without a horde of the Ursis running after them, but before they courted the King of the Ursis roared and stopped them. If you think it was from the kindness of his heart there was nothing like that could exist in there, he was ready to fight a new foe.
After they returned to Barudazu Geto, the Gods were getting ready for the invasion by moving all the humans into a single spot to protect as many people as possible. They cut down all the trees within a kilometre and used them to make three walls to and set up landmines, life stelling and other trap spells to either kill or slow down the Ursis. They also gave out their weapons that they were not using so the normal people could defend themselves.
From the Soul of Dark described this battle and we will be using it to tell the battle. 'It was a warm spring night with the moon high in the sky. I was in the middle of looking around the wall for weakness by using magic. Then I heard the bell rung by Alah Alaf because he set up tripwire spells to let us know when the Ursis would come and they came that night. Even from as far away as they were I could hear the roaring, running and cheering because they found us after finding so many empty villages of food. Then I sore him to just bound the trees, The King of the Ursis. He had a scar across his face and chest and wore a cloak and what we learn later was known as a Droskin which would be a bitch to deal with later.
I flew up to the top of the wall where Naiki was waiting for me to get there, so she could make a speech. "If we fall there will be no future for our people now. This is a chance to have a future where our children need not fear the future, NOW STAND UP AND FIGHT" she said with passion. The villagers we trained into a militia used magic bows and enchanted arrows to deal bleeding, poison, etc. After we got ready for battle they attacked, the first ones to attack were the sick and elderly who softened our defences. Our plan was that Kikotenshin Nekonya, Naiki and Uruikku were moving around the village to fight and protect. Me, Alah Alaf and Anbari were flying over the village and casting 7th to 10th tier magic. It was hours of the siege which lasted until near sunrise until The King joined the battle.
The King waited until he and his elite attacked and finished the battle. We had no traps lift, two of the walls had been destroyed and many people had died but the six of us. Naiki was the first to attack The King with her swords but to all of our shock, it. Did. nothing. There was a lot we threw at The King, Alah Alaf cast sunlight burst, Ururikku used his strongest skill Great Wolf Blast and I used Black Hole but it did nothing to The King because of the Droskin. The Droskin in a belt wrapped across the chest and had three crystals that held wild magic that nullified all negative effects. We kept hitting him and his elite but they got into the village. They just killed all the people they could see but I killed them. Then I had an idea, I yelled to Anbari to use Downfall of Castle and Country to control The King. She was not sure about using it, worried it wouldn't work but I convinced her to use it, but before she was able to use the world item both Ururikku, Naiki and Kikotenshin fought him at once but because of them it worked. Downfall of Castle and Country took control of The King and she commanded him to make his warriors retreat from the village.'
After the battle The King was ordered to take his men to fight the strongest opponent they could find, which was a mistake in some people's opinion. Before The King lift the Six Great Gods took his Droskin for the man who would become the first grandmaster of the Black Scripture Crellan. After the battle the people rebuilt all the villages and started the Scripture to defend the people and fight Demi-humans or Heteromorphs, like the Tyrannopede that attacked a village and only the Scriptures fought against it. When the humans finally rebuilt their homes and began preparing for harvest, Blaze Dragon Lord arrived looking for those who sent the Ursis to attack him.
The Gods were able to tell Blaze Dragon Lord that they only sent them to attack the strongest opponent they could find and it was him. After that they were able to convince him to help them to protect the humans and they would help him with what he needed. This was not an uncommon deal made in those days because the Dragon Empire ruled the whole continent. There were only two real choices for puh-layer's back in those days, fight the dragon lords or serve them in some form or another. There are stories of powerful warriors fighting a force of dragons but taken down by three true dragon lords like the tale of the gold warrior. This warrior was said to have long flowing black hair, Gold armour with eagles on it, a flaming sword and a claw. They fought the dragons and tried to fight the Dragon Emperor.
The dragons said his last words: "This is the best thing that happened to me and I will make a kingdom of gold in my own image because I will be the Emperor of-".after that he died to 3 Dragon Lords and after that they took his Items.
The other notable puh-layer's that were The Great Tusk, The Witch Queen, The House, Kain and Vivec. The first one will mention The Great Tusk who was in the great desert in the southern part of the continent where he gathered three species which were the Sorens a race of lizardmen, Desert Elf and Silithid a race of bug heteromorphs. These three species formed into what is known today as the Kindred of the Tusk because the founder the Great Tusk was a part of a race with massive tusks and named after that. The Kindred of the Tusk have three rule that is followed to this day, which is no killing another member of the Kindred of the Tusk, no leaving a member of the Kindred of the Tusk to die and no hate to anyone who joins the Kindred of the Tusk because they are your family now. The Kindred of the Tusk were a bandit Empire in the desert but would also form groups and trade with other civilizations for goods. But the Eight Greed King destroyed the Kindred of the Tusk but they are still around today in several forms like, the Kindred of the Tusk bandit tribes, the Kindred of the Tusk caravan company who help people get across the desert, the Kindred of the Tusk Glass Bank that is in the dead middle of the desert made of glass. The different groups of the Kindred of the Tusk all follow the same rules made by the Great Tusk even between the very different groups. Even in the golden times of the Kindred of the Tusk they still had to pay fealty to the Dragon Lords.
The Witch Queen was a strange and mysterious puh-layer because we don't even know what she looked like, all we know was that she was a heteromorph who served directly under Phantom Dragon Lord, one of the wickedest Dragon Lords to ever exist. The Witch queen would use her magic to mould and mutate the beings under Phantom Dragon Lord and make some of the greatest monsters that have lived. Some of her creations wear the Worm Gods giant worms that they barrow underground and destroy entire towns and villages when they attack. The other thing she created was the sworn, a race of bug Demi-humans that get stronger the more they kill and eat. Many philosophers have theories that the sworn was made so the Phantom Dragon Lord could overthrow the Dragon Emperor but before he got the chance the Eight Greed Kings showed up.
The House is all we know of it, because it was completely erased from history by the Eight Greed Kings. There is such little knowledge that we don't know if it was a person or group. But what we do know was that The House was a place of sin and debauchery. They made a lot of prophets and paid off the Dragon Lords, so they could get away from anything up to slavery of anyone who owed them money. The place that The House was based is now a ruin except for a sign that says the House Always Wins.
There are not many names that strike fear into the hearts of every race across the world even now then Kain the Blooded. The story of Kain is a dark one that makes the Evil Deities look cute and childest in comparison by his cruelty and intelligence. When Kain the Blooded arrived to our world he was in the far South on an island that has been destroyed to make sure that Kain will never come back after the third Blood Crusades. The three Blood Crusades were events that happened up until two hundred years ago when Kain was slain for the final time, for we hope. The Blood Crusades were attacks all across the mainland where undead of all types were led by Kains 7 en-pii-see generals to steal and kidnap people of all races to eat and enslave. Kain was a monster and was the closest of the puh-layer's to try to overthrow the Dragon Lords and the Eight Greed Kings.
The last notable puh-layer was Vivec the prophet of the dragons who joined the dragon counsel as an advisor. The reason Vivec had gone up to such a high rank in the dragon government by not being a dragon was his foresight and magic. The magic he used was able to help grow crops and forest after droughts and other disasters but the power that really helped him go far was his foresight. The ability to see the future helped him predict which of the young dragons had a great future and which ones didn't, as well as threats that would come. There were some things that he couldn't predict like what would happen on the other side of the continent which is where the Eight Greed Kings would appear.
Now that you know about the other puh-layers of notes because even today there are tombs full of yggdrasil items. In these tombs are normality full of scantily dressed women or men in some situations guarding not a throne but a bed with a corpse. These are theorised that the puh-layer was killed in their sleep by their en-pii-see, all those in those corpses there have never seen a killing strike. These tombs are considered treasure to whoever finds them.
There aren't many stories from those days because not much was written down or has been over sensationalised to the point we don't know what it story or fact. There is only a handful true source of information which are the Soul of Dark, the Age Dragons, the Scrolls of Elders and any being who lived in those days, but that last one can be unreliable. There are things we know like that there were Seven Calamities and the founding of the Grand Cities but even those are not sure when they happened because there was no real dating system. But what we do know is that the gods were human at the core so they made concessions, fell in love, had kids and grew old and died just as the rest of us do.
The Seven Calamities were the greatest challenges that the gods ever had to deal with and was the founding of a city as a symbol of hope. The first calamity was the Ursis Rampage and was the founding of Barudazu Geto. The second calamity was a winter that lasted for three years until they destroyed a wild magic crystal that was a plan to transform the area for a race only known as the others but was stopped by the gods and Blaze Dragon Lord, the city founded was Marinfodo. The third and fifth was a magic plague called the Black Vanes that was spread all over the continent by Kain to weaken everyone for the Blood Crusade and the two cities were Raion and Kiru. The fourth was an attack by the champion of Four Gods of Discord and his army but was defeated by assassinated the champion in his sleep by the Black Scripture and the city was Arutodroufu. The sixth was the attack by the rival of Blaze Dragon Lord, Thunder Dragon Lord who wanted to kill the gods but was killed instead by them both and was nearly wiped out by the Dragon Lords for murdering Thunder Dragon Lord but was able to convince them to be spared, the city founded was U-indamu. The final city was when the Blood Crusade attacked the continent and after the two years of the crusade humanity lived and found the capital of the theocracy Silksuntecks.
There are many reasons for how the Six Great Gods got their god titles but at the start no one called them gods except a small group who thought they were sent from the heavens to save us. It wasn't until after the Eight Greed Kings showed up and there was now a way to get power from belief which is holy magic. We learnt that after holy magic was introduced to our world, the small group rapidly grew in power until it had the power we see today. When Sushana learnt about the church's growth in power and saw him and his friends as gods he accepted it as a necessary evil.
Now if you wonder how after the gods die we still live it's because of 4 main reasons. The first reason is that we still had one god up until the year 26 A.E.C when the last god Surshana was murdered. The second reason was Six Scriptures were founded as protectors of humanity and especially the Black Scripture were the greatest heroes and even the Godkin would go. The third reason was that the gods had made a deal with Blaze Dragon Lord to help humanity if we were to help him. The last reason was the Eight Greed Kings' arrival to our world and their conquest of the continent.
There is much more that is known about the next one hundred years, thanks to the Eight Greed Kings Conquest.
