The theme for this year's freshers' ball was a stunning combination of black and gold, which lent an air of sophistication to the entire event. The venue was even more spacious than previous years, in order to accommodate the doubled number of cadets attending. The decor was carefully crafted to create a luxurious and regal atmosphere. The twinkling lights that adorned the walls and ceiling added a touch of glamour and set the mood for the night. Each chair was draped in black covers and tied with beautiful gold bows, creating a cohesive and polished look throughout the room. The tables were dressed in exquisite gold tablecloths that glittered in the soft light, while each table was graced with a stunning gold centerpiece that added a touch of glamour to the ambiance. To add to the grandeur of the evening, each corner of the room was adorned with towering vases filled with beautiful flowers in the theme colors. The arrangement of these stunning floral displays provided a dramatic backdrop that highlighted the opulence of the space. Altogether, the decorations created a sense of grandeur and elegance that perfectly complemented the celebratory atmosphere of the event.
Naina's friends had already entered the ball when she arrived. A scoring system had been put in place by the second-year cadets to rate all the couples entering the ballroom. BC and Dr. Shalini received scores of 7.5 and 8 out of 10, respectively. Suriji and Lolita arrived together and were scored 6 and 7. Huda and his date received scores of 8 and 7. Yudi arrived with his twin sister's friend Richa, and they received scores of 8.5 and 7.5. Alekh came with Nilu, Yudi's sister, and they scored 10 and 8.5. Pooja and Ali had resolved their fight and arrived together, earning scores of 8.5 each. Rajveer arrived with Dr. Ritu, and they received the highest score so far, earning 9 each.
"Oye Panjaban! You're looking smoking hot today!" Huda exclaimed, his eyes fixed on Pooja's stunning appearance as he admired her from head to toe.
Pooja, with her hands on her hips, adopted a mock-offended expression. "What do you mean, Jatt? Are you implying I don't always look hot?" she retorted, playfully challenging Huda. Her attire exuded confidence as she donned a sequined evening gown, complete with a daring thigh-high slit and striking red high heels.
"N-No, that's not what I meant!" Huda stumbled over his words, realizing the inadvertent misstep he had made. His cheeks flushed with embarrassment at the unintended implication.
Ali couldn't help but smirk at Huda's flustered reaction, relishing the amusing exchange unfolding before him. He discreetly turned his face away, attempting to conceal his amusement.
Breaking the tension, Alekh interjected with genuine warmth. "Forget him, Pooja. You look absolutely beautiful tonight," he complimented, his words carrying sincerity and admiration.
As their group gathered, Yudi joined the conversation, inquiring about the whereabouts of their friend. "Guys, where's Naina? We can finally start the party when she arrives," he queried, his excitement evident.
"She texted and said she'll be here any minute," Pooja responded, providing an update on Naina's expected arrival.
Yudi's enthusiasm grew, and he couldn't help but exclaim, "Oh my god! Aren't we the hottest group at this ball?" His grin widened as he surveyed each of his friends, taking pride in their collective presence.
Pooja, seizing the opportunity to tease Yudi, playfully inquired, "We are, indeed. By the way, where's your date?"
Yudi shrugged nonchalantly. "With the Chief's date... I mean, my sister. They're hanging out together at the bar," he revealed, acknowledging the presence of his sibling at the event.
Their lively conversation was interrupted by the arrival of BC, who approached their group with a warm smile. He couldn't help but express his admiration. "Good evening, Cadets! I must say, all of you clean up really well," BC complimented, his genuine fondness for the group evident. He appreciated their academic prowess and performance, considering them to be among the top cadets in their first-year class. Their mischievous nature, as long as it stayed within acceptable boundaries, was something BC didn't mind, further solidifying his positive regard for the group.
"Good evening, sir," the group chorused, their smiles reflecting their enthusiasm.
BC acknowledged their greetings with a nod. "Yes, Cadets. Brigadier sir is absolutely right. You all look amazing," Shalini, sharing in their excitement, added her own enthusiastic comment.
"Thank you, sir! Thank you, Ma'am," the group responded in unison, expressing their gratitude.
Huda couldn't resist injecting some humor into the conversation. "Sir, Ma'am, you both are looking so dashing that the boys and girls can't help but look at you more than us!" he joked, eliciting laughter from BC and Shalini.
BC, amused by Huda's comment, chuckled. "Oh, Cadet Huda, you never fail to bring a smile. But let's not just stand around and chat, shall we? Where is the leader of your group?" he inquired, noticing Naina's absence.
Alekh respectfully replied, "Sir, she's on her way. Her date was running late, but she should be here soon."
Just as they were discussing, Captain Rajveer arrived with Dr. Ritu, catching their attention. Rajveer greeted the group warmly, "Good evening, Cadets!"
Returning the greeting, they replied, "Hello, sir. Good evening!"
Pooja, unable to contain her admiration, expressed her thoughts with a dreamy smile. "Sir, tonight you're truly looking like Shahrukh Khan."
Captain Rajveer was wearing a black tux with white shirt underneath. He blushed slightly at Pooja's compliment, feeling a mix of shyness and gratitude. "Thanks... I guess?" he responded with a hint of bashfulness in his voice.
Ali playfully nudged Pooja, bringing her back to reality. "I mean, you're looking really handsome," Pooja corrected herself, her smile sheepish.
Huda chimed in with a wide grin, addressing Rajveer respectfully. "Sir ji, our Panjaban is right. You're really rocking that tux." Ali, Yudi, and Alekh nodded in agreement, acknowledging Rajveer's stylish appearance.
Rajveer appreciated their compliments and turned the conversation towards the party itself. "Thank you, all of you. You all are also looking very nice. Are you enjoying the party? It's your first Army ball, after all," he inquired.
Ali responded on behalf of the group, "Sir, we're waiting for Naina ji. As soon as she arrives, we'll start enjoying this ball."
...-...
"I'm so sorry, baby girl. I'm late," Jeremy said with an apologetic smile while holding his ears.
Naina teased him, "You have super speed and yet you're always late. How do you manage this phenomenon?"
"I'm special like that," Jeremy replied with a smug shrug before bursting into laughter. He then hugged her tightly and asked, "Oh, my sweet little sister. How are you doing?" while cupping her face affectionately.
Naina gave him an assuring smile and replied, "I'm better. After talking to Edward and his family, it became easier to handle my bloodlust. They had brilliant ideas, tips and tricks to handle the singer situation."
"That's a relief," Jeremy smiled, then added, "Oh, by the way... I have some disturbing news about that guy, Rohit."
"In what way is it disturbing?" Naina asked.
"Let's go inside and I'll share in front of your friend," Jeremy suggested.
"Okay," Naina nodded.
As Naina and Jeremy descended the grand staircase, a hush fell over the room. The boys who were tasked with announcing the arrivals found themselves momentarily speechless, completely captivated by the sight before them. After a brief moment of awe, one of them managed to gather his composure and announced their names with a mix of admiration and awe. All eyes turned towards the staircase, and a collective gasp of admiration and envy filled the ballroom as Naina and Jeremy made their entrance.
Even Naina's closest friends and mentors were spellbound by their stunning presence. Rajveer, BC, Shalini, and Ritu couldn't help but be awestruck by the sheer elegance and charisma that radiated from Naina and Jeremy. It was as if a magnetic force had enveloped the entire room, drawing everyone's gaze towards them.
Naina, in particular, was a vision of beauty in her exquisite Alyce Paris 60453 A-Line Long Party Dress. The blood red gown was a perfect fit for her, accentuating her slender waist and curves with its side midriff cutouts. The V-neckline added a touch of allure, highlighting her graceful collarbone. As she moved, the sleeveless satin chiffon dress gracefully flowed around her, the A-line skirt revealing a tasteful side slit that showcased her toned legs. Her choice of Steve Madden diamante heeled shoes in clear and silver further elevated her look, elongating her legs and adding an extra touch of sophistication. Naina's ensemble was complete with a family crest diamond pendant, delicately hanging from her neck. The dazzling pendant added a hint of glamour and drew attention to the graceful curve of her neck and the gentle swell of her bosom. As Naina and Jeremy made their way through the ballroom, all eyes followed their every step, captivated by their remarkable presence and how effortlessly they complemented each other.
Naina's date was an extremely attractive man, standing at least 6 feet tall with a lean and athletic build that hinted at an active lifestyle. He had impeccable style, donning a tailored, form-fitting branded tuxedo that accentuated his lean frame in an alluring way. His short dark brown hair was styled to perfection with a slight tousle that added to his ruggedly handsome look. His piercing red eyes exuded an inner light that drew people in with their intensity. His facial features were sharp and defined, boasting high cheekbones, a chiseled jawline, and stylishly trimmed stubble that gave him an air of sophistication.
Despite his striking appearance, there was a gentleness to him that was evident in the way he carried himself. He moved with a graceful fluidity that exuded confidence and approachability, making people feel at ease in his presence.
Rajveer frowned, wondering who this man was. There was a strange similarity between Naina and him. Rajveer tilted his head a little and observed him silently from head to toe.
"Excuse us, sir," Naina's friends said to Rajveer and BC before hurrying towards Naina and her date.
"Oye Missed call! Where have you been?" Pooja called out as their group reached Naina.
"Sorry, Pooja. My date was late," Naina replied, giving a mock glare at Jeremy. "Guys, this is my brother-in-law, Jeremy. Jeremy, these are my friends. This is Pooja, my roommate. That's Alekh, my soul brother. Ali is his roommate. That's Yudi and Huda. They are roommates," she introduced with a wide smile.
"Good evening, everyone. Naina speaks of you a lot every time we speak. I feel like I already know you guys. Though it's nice to put faces with the names," Jeremy said with a charming smile.
"Nice to meet you, Jeremy ji. Naina also talks about you and her brother a lot," Ali said with a polite smile.
"Yes. It's really nice to finally connect with your network," Pooja added.
"My... network?" Jeremy asked, confused.
"She meant it's nice to meet you," Yudi translated with a smirk.
While everyone was greeting Jeremy, Huda walked up to Naina and said, "You look gorgeous. Is your date really your brother-in-law? I was getting jealous for no reason."
Naina rolled her eyes at his statement, but decided to ignore him instead of responding.
"I have something to say to you," Alekh told Jeremy.
"What is it?" Jeremy asked.
"I just want to say... um... thank you... for taking care of my sister," Alekh said stoically.
Naina was surprised by Alekh's gratitude, as she felt like it was her late brother Naveen who was thanking Jeremy through Alekh.
A warm smile spread over Jeremy's face. "You're most welcome," he replied, understanding the emotion behind Alekh's words. Naina had told Jeremy about Alekh and the story she shared with him. Seeing Alekh's reaction firsthand made Jeremy realize that Naina had indeed found a brother in him.
"Naina, our seniors are asking for you. You should go and greet them," Ali suggested.
"That's a great idea. Jerry, come with me for a moment. Excuse us, everyone," Naina said, holding Jeremy's hand as she guided him towards her seniors.
"Ali and Pooja... they're soulmates," Jeremy whispered in her ear as they distanced themselves from the group.
Naina stopped and looked up at him, her smile widening. "They are?"
"Yes," Jeremy nodded.
"That's fantastic! I'll play matchmaker for them," Naina cheered.
"Shall we proceed? Your seniors are waiting," Jeremy reminded her, refocusing her attention.
"Yes, of course."
They approached the faculty members who were engaged in conversation. "Good evening, sir and ma'am!" Naina greeted them with a warm smile.
"Good evening, cadet. Haven't I told you that you should be a model? You look absolutely stunning," BC complimented.
Naina chuckled in response. "Thank you, sir. And I must say, army men age gracefully. You're the most handsome gentleman here tonight," she playfully countered.
BC laughed, blushing slightly. "Oh, Cadet, you always know how to make me smile."
"Sir, may I introduce my date for the evening, Mr. Jeremy Campbell, my brother-in-law," Naina introduced.
"Good evening, sir. Now I understand why our dear Naina insisted that I wear my finest suit. I had to measure up to the charm of handsome gentlemen like yourself," Jeremy said, shaking BC's hand.
BC chuckled heartily. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Campbell. Let me assure you, Cadet Campbell is one of our most outstanding cadets this year. I have high hopes for her to become the top cadet in her batch," he proudly remarked.
Jeremy affectionately wrapped his arm around Naina's shoulder, beaming down at her. "I have full confidence in her abilities," he expressed with pride.
"Hello, Mr. Campbell. I'm Dr. Captain Shalini. Naina, you didn't mention that you have a sister as well," Shalini remarked with curiosity.
Naina shook her head. "Oh, no, ma'am. I don't have a sister. Jeremy here is my brother's husband," she clarified proudly.
"Brother's...?" BC stammered, his surprise evident, while Shalini's smile grew wider. "Truly? That's incredible! There must be a beautiful love story behind it!"
Jeremy bashfully smiled and shrugged.
Rajveer and Ritu returned with drinks for everyone, handing the extras to BC and Shalini. "Hello, sir. Hello, ma'am," Naina greeted them with a warm smile.
Rajveer turned to her and remarked, "Finally, you've arrived. Your friends were eagerly awaiting your presence. But I suppose perfection takes time?"
Naina blushed and smiled in response to his compliment.
"Captain is absolutely right. You look absolutely stunning tonight," Ritu chimed in.
"Thank you," Naina graciously replied. As she turned to introduce Jeremy, she noticed a flicker of recognition on his face. Jeremy often had this look whenever he encountered a soulmate pair, but it vanished in an instant.
"Hi, I'm Jeremy Campbell, Naina's brother-in-law and her date for this evening," he introduced himself, extending his hand to Rajveer.
"Hello, I'm Captain Rajveer Singh Shikhawat," Rajveer responded, shaking Jeremy's hand. He blinked in surprise as he noticed that Jeremy's hand felt as cold and firm as Naina's, almost like stone. Rajveer also observed a similarity between Naina and Jeremy—both possessed an unnatural paleness, resembling marble statues.
"And I'm Dr. Ritu Mishra," Ritu introduced herself as they released their handshake.
"Nice to meet you," Jeremy replied with a smile, though he didn't offer to shake hands, which struck Rajveer as peculiar.
Rajveer couldn't help but notice that Jeremy seemed to avoid physical contact, much like Naina always did.
"Well, everyone, let's head to the dance floor. It's time for the first dance," BC announced, leading Shalini to the center. A few minutes later, Rajveer and Ritu followed suit, joining the others on the dance floor.
As Naina leaned against Jeremy, she asked, "What did you see?"
Jeremy continued to stare at Rajveer with a strange expression on his face. Upon hearing Naina's question, he turned his head to the side and asked, "What do you mean?"
"You always have that expression on your face when you see a soulmate pair. But right now, you're wearing that look and also an unusual one," she pointed out.
Jeremy sighed, becoming serious. "What do you think of Captain Rajveer?" he asked.
"Huh?! Well... 80 percent of the time, I'm trying not to kill him and cursing him for having such a delicious-smelling blood. But the other 20 percent of the time, I genuinely respect him. He's my brother's best friend, and since he found out about my identity, he's been kind to me," Naina explained.
"Have you ever touched him?" Jeremy inquired.
Naina looked at him confused. "Yes. He taught me to dance yesterday. You know what's strange? When we first touched, there was a peculiar electricity flowing through us. It was like there was a spark or something," she shared.
Jeremy nodded thoughtfully. He opened his mouth to speak when Pooja interrupted, complaining, "Good lord! Why are they playing such boring ringtones?"
"Ringtone? When did they play ringtones?" Jeremy asked, perplexed.
"She meant songs," Naina explained.
Yudi expressed his annoyance, "Yes, dude. This music is so boring. It feels more like a refreshers ball than a freshers ball." He folded his arms over his chest with a sigh.
"Guys, please don't say such things. It's a formal ball. It's normal to play serene music here," Ali explained.
"Oye Usool, please stop talking about rules tonight, at least," Huda scolded.
"I can't believe I'm saying this, but this drama queen is right," Alekh stated, bored.
Jeremy watched the Super Six complain about the music, amused. "Guys, why don't you just change it to something you all like? It's simple," he suggested with a shrug.
"Best idea!" Huda exclaimed, grinning mischievously. "I'll take care of it," he said before disappearing into the crowd.
"What do you think he'll do?" Yudi asked their group curiously.
"Whatever it is, make sure your date is nearby so that you all can dance if our friend managed to change the music," Jeremy suggested.
"Jeremy bhai is right. Let's go find our dates," Alekh said to Yudi, and they left.
"Oh, Pooja... we found something out about Rohit," Jeremy told Pooja seriously.
Ali's face fell, and Pooja looked up at Jeremy with hopeful eyes. "What did you find out?" she asked.
"As far as we could find out, Rohit is not his real name. He appears in towns suddenly, leads a seemingly normal life, and then vanishes into thin air. Each time with a different name. Many times he was on the police suspect list. He also changes his appearance each time, sometimes with a mustache, sometimes with a beard, sometimes with long hair, and so on. I think he's a con artist who cheats people for money... or maybe something way worse... like a terrorist," Jeremy explained apologetically.
Pooja stumbled back in shock. Ali instantly held her from behind. "Are you sure?" he asked softly.
"I wish I wasn't. Thomas and I checked multiple times because it was our Naina's friend's matter. Pooja is like our sister, after all," Jeremy told them with a kind smile.
Tears rolled down Pooja's face. She couldn't believe what a trap she had escaped. Ali and Naina made her sit on a nearby chair. "That means... when he left me at the mandap of our wedding... he actually did me a favor?" she asked.
Naina knelt down in front of her and took her hand. "Whatever happens... happens for good. You're a strong girl, Pooja Ghai... a future army officer. You'll NOT cry over a loser like that," she told her firmly.
"And Pooja dear, you're a cadet in an army academy... where all the males have hot and sexy bodies. Choose one of them for you. Why chase after a loser?" Jeremy added with a smile as he knelt beside Naina in front of Pooja. Pooja started giggling at his statement as Ali sputtered in shock behind her.
The music suddenly turned off, causing everyone to look around in confusion. "I think Huda did his job," Naina announced with a grin.
"Good. Come on, Pooja! Wipe away those precious tears and enjoy your freshers' ball," Jeremy ordered Pooja with a smile as he pulled her out of the chair.
