Brief explanation: As you know, in no Disney media is revealed the name of the Fairy Godmother, it is known that her name is not that, because Fauna, Flora and Merryweather are fairy godmothers too, but we know their names. Therefore, here in this fanfic she is called Helena. Every time the name Helena is mentioned, know that it is Fairy Godmother.
Time in Auradon seemed to pass quickly. The 24 hours of the day seemed like twelve and every time they closed their eyes it was as if the month was already another and that was how five years had passed. Mal, as well as Evie, Jay, Ben, Loonie and Doug were already in their 22nd year. Carlos and Jane, being younger, were 21.
In five years, a lot has happened. Like Evie who had graduated the year before and was officially a fashion designer, and a member of the Board of Education and Auradon School. Jay became one of the school's coaches. One of his greatest passions was teaching soccer to the boys on the Island. Carlos worked at an animal shelter, now there were two actually. You couldn't help but find it funny that Cruella de Vil's son was officially the biggest animal protector. Doug graduated from a Technology course and spends most of his time at Cinderella's castle helping her with some issues, he returned home a few weeks ago.
Loonie became a fencing master and has been in the Orient with her parents for two months. She called Jay to go, but, he said an emphatic no, Jane, well, Jane is always helping everyone with everything, she inherited her mother's powers, but those were unused and she spends most of her time helping Mal.
Speaking of her, Lady Maleficent Bertha Faery is being awesome, breaking day after day the paradigms and rules that were expected of the king's girlfriend. Over the years, Mal has dedicated herself to various projects, as many as she could. In five years, she experienced everything, she was loved and hated, she wanted to disappear and wished she never left, she fought and made up, she hurt and was hurt, but she was still standing. As for her magic, Marlin taught it for two years and it must have been productive, because had no problems with it anymore. Felt weak time and again and now a strange feeling began to consume her inside.
Ben, King Benjamin. His maturity is clear at the same time that he has not changed at all, he remains the same dreamy guy. 50% of the kids who were born on the Isle of the Lost are now in Auradon, another improvement was in his girlfriend's hometown, the Isle was "refurbished" and now it wasn't a dump Auradon used to use. In a few years it could become a district. For Ben nothing is impossible. He learned to stand up for himself, one of his biggest challenges was dealing with the Auradon Camera. Ben believed that things were now under control, that nothing was out of place and that knew everything that happened in his kingdom.
What neither Mal, Ben, Evie, Jay, Jane or Carlos imagined is what is happening all over Auradon without them knowing. For five years there were people trying to maintain control and make sure that the happily ever after of Fairy Tales was kept safe, no matter what the price. Underneath all the joy that the young descendants experienced, there is something dark that happens and no one knows, except a certain fairy.
Helena or Fairy Godmother, was living through difficult years. Although, she felt joy to see the new time Ben was bringing, she could not escape the dark feelings and fear that had been plaguing (them) and obviously her. With each passing year Ben and Mal's love seemed to strengthen, even with the challenges they faced. The two remained together which made her fear triple. It was no secret that she was very pleased when Mal asked Ben to postpone the idea of marriage and honestly believed that would be the end of it, but no, their love grew. She was at peace until Jane came home shouting "Ben is going to propose!". His face was drained of color and his hands sweated like never before, the next day, in this case today he would have a reunion (they) should know that. The truth was that the long-avoided but expected war was coming.
"This has gone on long enough!"
"We can't tolerate it any longer!"
"We are against the rules."
"He's going to ask her to marry him."
"What? Fairy Godmother knows we can't allow that. You know the rules."
"Yes, I will do something."
The fairy took a deep breath and thought about her next steps.
(...)
"So, everything okay?"
King asked his friends nervously.
"Yeah, Carlos picked her up."
Mal's best friend replied smiling wider than usual.
"Yeah, it's all okay."
"Man, relax, she'll say yes."
Jafar's son said seeing how nervous his 'brother-in-law' was.
A few weeks ago, Ben decided he wanted to marry Mal and the first step was the proposal. When the word was first mentioned three years ago it was not very well received. In short, someone told Mal that her and Ben's wedding should take place that year, because usually princesses got engaged and married in the same year. Maleficent's daughter didn't understand why she should get married at 19. She loved Ben, but did not want to get married and become queen so soon. The king listened to her fears and was waiting for her until today.
"Okay, I'm going to my office."
The son of the Beast headed to his office not to work, but to hold his nervousness.
"King Ben?"
Not long after he entered his office, the door was opened and when he looked out he saw Fairy Godmother.
"Fairy Godmother? Come in."
He asked her with his natural niceness.
"Thank you, how are you?"
She asked nervously, wanting to get straight to the subject that was taking her sleep away.
"Just signing documents. What do I owe the honor of your visit? Problems with the school?"
"No, everything is fine, everything is going very well."
Her tone of voice denoted otherwise.
"Glad to hear it."
He honestly hadn't even paid attention to what she had been.
"Jane told me you're going to propose to Mal, congratulations."
"Thank you."
"You...you're...you're sure about that?"
Ben asked stuttering from nervousness.
"What do you mean?"
"Ben, I know you and Mal love each other, but do you think you're ready for this? Marriage is a big step and you're both so young. There's also Mal, do you think she's ready to become the next queen? People have your mother as an example don't you think it's better to postpone?"
Using logic, he sought to make his point.
"Everything is ready."
Jay entered the king's chamber without knocking.
"Fairy Godmother I'm glad you care about me, but I'm sure of it."
Ben walked out leaving the Fairy Godmother alone. She knew she could not avoid the proposal, but she also understood the evil that would befall everyone.
Carlos was tasked with taking Mal to the lake, Evie had tidied up the place and Jay had the responsibility of not letting Ben freak out.
"Carlos! Carlos take it off me now!"
Mal was angry, as no one had told her where was going and didn't like wearing that blindfold.
"Okay, sometimes I forget how nervous you are."
Carlos said afraid of his friend getting even more annoyed.
"The enchanted lake? I thought you were taking me to the shelter."
She said seeing the place she knew very well.
"It's up to you now, man."
He made room for Ben to appear between the trees.
"Ben? Now it makes sense."
She walked over to him and wrapped her arms around his neck as if they hadn't seen each other in months.
"Hi."
Kissed her holding back his nervousness as best he could.
"If you wanted to find me you didn't have to blindfold me, just text me like normal people do."
The longtime girlfriend spoke with her ironic tone.
"I'm not a normal boyfriend."
"Oh, you sure aren't." She kissed the wide smile. "So, what are we celebrating?"
"Do you have a special reason for wanting to go out with my adorable girlfriend?"
"You're overly cute, Benjamin."
"Thanks Mal Bertha Faery. "
"I don't like you sometimes."
He joked, hating to hear her middle name.
"But, I know you'll love this strawberry pie."
"Are you kidding? It's not in period, how did you manage?"
She left him to go to the food tray.
"You're dating the king."
"Have I mentioned how much I love this?"
"Funny, until yesterday it was, "why aren't you a normal boy?"
"Yesterday you didn't have strawberries for me. What else do we have here?"
Asked eating some of the strawberry container.
"Chocolate chip cookies."
He showed smiling.
"Bad joke."
She remembered what happened years ago.
"I assure you they are delicious."
The two of them ate, laughed and finally the moment Ben had been waiting for had arrived. He had put the ring on one of the cookies. Was it cheesy? Sure, but this is Benjamin and the more romantically cheesy the more Mal liked it.
"Hey, why don't you have a cookie?"
He offered trying to sound normal with his question.
"I'm satisfied with just that."
She warned thinking she wouldn't be able to eat anything else.
"Just eat one."
He picked up the food and brought it up to her face.
"If I eat any more I'll explode, Ben."
"Just one."
"Why do you want me to eat one of those so badly? Did you?"
She asked, finding his insistence strange.
"Yeah... that's it... exactly that."
He lied, if Mal knew him he would know he was lying and she knew it, Ben didn't know how to lie, but he didn't know why he did it.
"Okay, I'll have one."
Mal took a treat from inside the container.
"How about this one?"
She was going to eat one, however he gave her another one, the right one, the one with the ring.
"Okay."
Mal took the cookie and took a bite.
"And how are they?"
"Good, do you have any nuts?"
"Some, did you taste anything else?"
"It tastes like a ring."
"Cool... wait what?"
