"Mal, you must know this equipment, Marlin used to use it."
Helena said to Lady. Later, everyone was back in the meeting room. The four descendants couldn't take their eyes off Mal.
"Yes, of course, I know him."
Now that she knew that the device was used to suck out her magic, seeing him in front of her wasn't good.
"All right, you know you're going to feel weak and won't be able to use your powers until the end of the day, right?"
"Yes, it's fine."
She took a deep breath and felt the equipment meet her blood and all the magic in her being. His green eyes took on an even more greenish tint, and Mal gripped the wooden table tightly due to the pain he was feeling.
"Don't you think you'd better stop?"
Evie asked worriedly when she saw her friend's condition.
"Calm down, it'll be quick."
Rashid informed them, trying to calm them down.
"Okay."
Fairy Godmother turned off the drainage and Mal slipped into the chair very weakly. Jay went over to her, who just rested her body on her friend.
"What now?"
Carlos, who was a technological genius, wanted to get to know the technology that seemed to be powered by magic.
"Mal is going to rest, while Rashid and I analyze it."
"Okay."
Evie said, trying to lift her friend up.
"No, we'll stay, I won't be resting until I know the result."
Mal asked, almost out of breath and struggling to breathe.
"Mal, this could take hours."
Fairy Godmother said.
"M, you need to rest, Rashid said that this thing makes you look like you've run a marathon."
Evie really believed that there was a remote possibility of convincing her friend.
"I'm not going anywhere."
"I'll get her some water."
Carlos already knew that Mal's stubbornness was possibly his greatest power.
After two hours, Rashid and Helena continued to analyze all the information provided by the strange device. Despite being a technological novelty, only someone with years of experience with magic could handle it.
"Is it over? What was the result?"
Maly asked when she saw the two beings looking at each other, even though she was still weak.
"Yes, Rashid?"
Fairy Godmother confirmed, but was afraid to tell Mal.
"You have magic in every corner of your body."
Rashid answered directly.
"Is that a good thing?"
Mal asked, because he didn't know whether to celebrate or throw everything to the wind.
"Look Mal, you're good and we know it, but your magic comes from your mother which makes her..."
"'Evil'?"
Carlos asked and Fairy Godmother confirmed it.
"But one of the masters would take the magic back to its origin."
Rashid showed hope.
"Back to its origin?"
"It's training so that your magic distances itself from your mother's magic."
"I don't understand."
"In simple words, it would be 'making her magic good'"
Rashid explained in a way that they would understand.
"So, can I be an Apprentice Magician?"
Mal returned to her original question, drawing all eyes to her.
"Yes." Fairy Godmother agreed, but she was afraid of the possibility, as she was still thinking about Mal. "I think you need to be aware of the risks involved."
"What are the risks?"
Evie asked, because she was worried about Mal and it seemed she wasn't thinking about it herself.
"There's no telling how you'll absorb each spell applied. Mal, you'll be exposed to a lot of magic and we don't even know if you'll be able to stand up to Agatha."
"So, we'll risk her life without knowing if it will work?"
Jay asked, but already affirmed that this was stupid.
"I'll do it."
"Mal, wait."
"No E., you..."
"No, Mal, you'll wait! First you're going to talk to Ben and us, because we're your family, understand?"
Jay spoke up like an older brother.
"But..." She was about to argue, but saw their gazes on her. "All right." Even though she was against it, she gave in to her friends' complaints.
"Then you talk to your family and give us your answer. Helena and I will talk to Clarion."
Rashid said at last.
"All right, we'll talk tomorrow."
From there they went out into the central courtyard to meet their partners.
"Mal, why don't you talk to Ben and explain the situation? Then we'll get together and talk about what we think."
Evie advised her friend.
"What about the family thing?"
Mal asked her, as he was afraid of his partner's reaction when she dropped this bombshell on him.
"You have to talk to him alone and you know it, good luck."
She kissed him on the head and headed towards her husband.
Mal took a deep breath and thought of several ways to explain and convince Ben that this was the right thing to do, even if it cost him his life.
"Hi."
She said with a big yellow smile, trying to cover it up.
"Hi."
Ben was strangely also in the same mood as Mal.
"I need to talk to you about something."
They both said it at the same time and both froze in fear of what was to come and because they thought that what they were about to say would be far worse than revealing it to each other.
"Let's go to the bedroom."
Mal asked and they left quietly in the direction of their room, while Evie and Carlos began to explain the situation to the rest of the staff.
"You start talking."
Mal encouraged him
"Okay, I just want you to know not to be nervous and that I needed to do this."
He asked her in a false attempt to lighten the mood.
"Ben, telling me not to be nervous doesn't do anything to improve my nervousness. What did you do?"
While Mal was at the meeting, Ben was troubled by the news he had just seen about his entire kingdom. The feeling that he had been a coward invaded his heart in a way that even he couldn't explain. As soon as Mal had gone to talk, he left the courtyard, ignoring everyone around him.
"Cirse?"
The king entered the room the witch was staying in.
"King Ben? What are you doing here?"
The witch asked as none of the good guys were talking to her, least of all the son of the man she had turned into the Beast.
"I need a favor."
He was nervous, because at the same time as he wanted to do it, he knew he couldn't.
"A favor? A favor from me?"
"Yes, I know you're a very powerful witch and the only one who would do that."
"Do what?"
"Maly once told me that there were teleportation spells. I need to make one that will take me to Auradon."
"Take you to Auradon? Are you crazy? You run the risk of never coming back here."
"If you do, I promise that once everything is back to normal, no one will ever know you're a witch."
Ben got his wish, Cirse didn't consider herself a witch so she didn't want to be seen that way.
"All right, but the spell won't last long, you'll have less than fifteen minutes, okay?"
"Okay, I just want to see Auradon."
"You didn't do it!"
Mal shouted, getting up from the bed and extremely angry with him.
"Mal... try to understand..."
He asked calmly, trying to get close to her.
"You're crazy, Ben! Do you know what could have happened to you?!"
She was getting more nervous by the minute and Ben could see it in her eyes, which were starting to glaze over.
"Yes, I know all the things that could happen to me."
"I'm going to kill that witch."
Mal was heading for the door when Ben stopped her.
"Mal, calm down."
"Calm down? Agatha could have seen you and killed you."
"I needed to see Auradon! I can't stand knowing that my people are suffering and I'm here!" This time he shouted and this time Mal let his guard down. "It's my people, Mal."
"And how are things?"
"Everything's destroyed, people are dead, okay?"
He almost cried remembering the scene.
"Nobody saw you, right?"
"Cogsworth, but I asked you not to tell anyone."
"Sorry about the eyes and the screams."
Calmer, she managed to speak.
"It's okay." He kissed her lightly as he ran his hands through her purple hair. "Your turn, what do you have to tell me?"
Mal knew that what Ben had done was irresponsible, but what she was about to do he would never agree to.
"Well..."
"Mal, just say it."
"The guys and I talked it over and the only way to beat Agatha is to get someone they call an Apprentice of Magic, someone who absorbs magic from Merlin, the White Queen, the Genie and the Fairy hidden in Neverland. This person would be taking a big risk, because it's a lot of magic and we don't know if their body could withstand it, but we'd have a real chance of beating Agatha."
"Good, and who is this Apprentice? Is this person sure? It's a big sacrifice." Ben asked hopefully, but when he looked at his wife and saw that she was looking down to avoid eye contact, he knew who the Apprentice was. "No, no, tell me it's not you."
"Ben, just listen."
Just as she had done a few minutes earlier, he got out of bed and stood there without reacting.
"No, no Mal... you...no."
"Ben, I'm the only person who has magic pulsing inside them."
"Fairy Godmother, Rashid, Cirse and Jane."
"You know very well that they couldn't handle it."
"But can you?"
"I don't know, maybe, but it's our only chance, Ben."
"Only chance? What about you, Mal? How many chances do you have of getting out of all this alive?" Mal couldn't look at him. "Tell me Mal, how many chances can I believe that when this is over you'll be with me?"
"Ben."
He started to cry and she couldn't stand it and felt tears coming out of her eyes too.
"No, I can't agree to that. There must be another way."
"There isn't! One way or another I'm going to end up losing you!"
She cried out, as she remembered what Agatha was going to do.
"What are you talking about?"
"What Agatha wants to do. She wants to end all happy endings, end all true loves. Me going is the only chance we have, I don't want to lose you Ben."
"What if everything goes wrong?"
"Let's believe that everything will work out."
"I love you, I love you too much."
He couldn't look at her
"Believe me, I love you." She pulled him close and kissed him. "I love you more than I can say."
