Bowsette: A New Life
Chapter 13
The Fall
'What's taking him so long?' Bowsette tapped her foot impatiently. Her troops confirmed that Mario had already entered the castle a few minutes ago. Bowsette had gone out of her way to configure the dungeons to the classic lava river and bridge setup for this moment, and he was going to make her wait?! Bowsette paced left and right annoyed. All she could do was fix her hair as she waited, something she still wasn't that great at doing. Small wonder considering Bowsette barely even had hair before this.
Suddenly the door opposite the bridge ax slammed open. Bowsette turned and… and… it was HIM. 'Why is my heart beating faster? I can't be scared, not of him. Not of anyone!' Bowsette thought. The mustached warrior of the Mushroom Kingdom stood resolute as ever. Bowsette felt hot and her cheeks burned. 'Next time I'll do this without the lava.' Bowsette shook her head. Bowsette cleared her throat and focused. "You're finally here." Bowsette managed to get out. "How's your day been? I'm having a good day and it's about to get better." Bowsette grinned. "I get to squash a cheeky plumber."
Mario said nothing and just looked back across the bridge, barely even registering her threat, he'd heard it all before. He'd been in this arena countless times before, so he knew exactly what to do. All he had to do was make his way past Bowsette and cut the chain with the ax on that side to drop her into the lava, simple enough. Mario's cobalt eyes burned with determination. Whether she knew it or not Bowsette had done him a favor with this little adventure. The struggle to get here had long since pushed out all thought of Peach's rejection, concerns about his plumbing job, Luigi's worried face… the only thought was the battle to come with the evil woman before him, and the princess he had to save.
Bowsette didn't bother with any more talk. She rushed forward and launched a volley of fireballs in the plumber's direction. Mario easily avoided them, but they were just the preamble. Bowsette closed the distance between them and followed up with a roundhouse kick. Mario barely ducked under it and struck out a fist hitting that leg and throwing her off balance. Bowsette swiped her claws and sliced a bit of Mario's overalls as he leaped away.
Ruthless. That's the only word Mario could think of to describe her. Perhaps driven and determined too, but no less than Mario himself. He kicked out and struck her foot but had to move out of the way before she let a two-handed strike down and it impacted, breaking a section of the bridge plank. She grabbed his arm and threw him at the door, but Mario flipped in midair and landed on the now shut door with his feet, launching himself back forward.
Bowsette grinned even as Mario struck her. Of course this wasn't going to be easy. Maybe she would lose, but Bowsette wasn't going to give up until it was over. Even as Mario rebounding off the door took her by surprise, and he struck with both arms against her abdomen, she couldn't possibly have felt more alive. Bowsette was too preoccupied to notice a particular feeling growing in her stomach, but she would've dismissed it as the pain anyway. She took even less notice of the bit of… wetness growing. All she could focus on was striking out a fist, a foot, and occasionally her tail.
The fight wore on, Mario unable to get past her to get to the ax, his blows only giving Bowsette some less than serious wounds that she seemed to barely notice. Mario managed to avoid her claws and fire breath, but he got away with the occasional scratch or mild burn. Still, the two combatants didn't let up, and the room took as much of a beating as either of them.
"Yes! COME ON! Attack me you pasta loving weakling!" Bowsette fired more fireballs at Mario, who barely avoided them. He was going to get worn out if this kept up, and Bowsette showed no signs of even slowing down. Mario grabbed a fire flower he had picked up along the way, but instead of using it himself he threw it at the Koopa Queen, a move she apparently never would've suspected. Her dress changed to a fierce red/black and her fire red hair stood up on end with a slight glow to it, but while the transformation left the Koopa Queen briefly immobile Mario was on the move. Mario used the couple seconds that bought him to leap over Bowsette and rush towards the ax.
"Tricky little bastard aren't you!?" Bowsette took advantage of the powerup's power to throw fireballs even more rapidly and more powerfully than before. However, it wasn't enough, and Mario grinned as he grabbed the ax with both hands… only to feel a blinding pain course through him. The Koopa Queen smirked as Mario spasmed as thousands of volts of electricity coursed through him. "Mario Mario Mario…" Mockingly she walked toward the plumber twirling the key to the door on her finger. As Mario was thrown to the ground by his own spasms Bowsette rushed forward. With a leap, she turned around in midair and slammed her legs onto the whole of his body with full force.
Already feeling less than stellar, Mario screamed in pain as the woman's whole weight impacted on top of him. "No amount of 1-Ups are going to save you now…" Bowsette cackled. Mario struggled to throw her off, to move much at all even, but his legs and arms were pinned under Bowsette's legs. All he could do was watch as Bowsette took a quick look around. "No one around to save you either." Mario now regretted leaving Luigi behind and cursed his overconfidence. He looked as Bowsette raised one of her hands with the claws all pointing at Mario and drew back her arm.
