Bowsette: A New Life
Chapter 47
Cue SMB3 Airship Theme
"Hm hm hmhmhm hm hmhmhmhm" Mario hummed to himself has the ship took flight. It was nice to be able to ride one of these airships without having to fight off Bowsette's minions for once, but Mario knew it was only a brief respite. "Magic furnace at full!" Someone shouted from below deck. "Sails intact! No major holes in the deck!" A blue Koopa shouted. "Anti air defenses ready and manned!" Said another Goomba as the remaining crew took up positions around the cannons on deck, there wasn't enough to man every cannon. "Bullet Bills are ready to fire!" Said yet another, Mario didn't know their names. "Alright, full speed ahead!" The green shelled Koopa at the wheel yelled as the ship picked up speed.
"Mario! Keep an eye out for the enemy!" One of the Goombas said. Mario climbed to the top of the crow's nest and grabbed the telescope. The clouds around Koopa Keep were growing thicker and thicker, unlike usual the clouds not only weren't dissipating, but they were swirling around the castle, the pink lightning was striking faster and faster.
Mario could see the paraunits in flight around the castle fighting off the enemy. Luckily the pink lightning is dissipating as it strikes towards the castle, they seem to have gotten the wards up since Mario left. Still, the lightning is still striking around the castle and producing more and more of the enemy. They were being relentless in their attempts to breach the castle.
As the airship approached, the flying creatures started to head in their direction. "Enemy is-a incoming!" Mario yelled. The anti-air defenses began to fire, striking several of the creatures down as they flew toward the ship. Some were slipping through though, so Mario dropped the telescope and adjusted his hat. "Let's-a go…"
As the enemy flew over the ship, Mario leapt from the crow's nest. Hopping on top of a Dark Paragoomba, Mario let it fall to its death and readied fire in both hands as he leapt onto another enemy. As he hopped up, Mario threw his arms forward, throwing a stream of fireballs unerringly towards the enemy, knocking a half dozen as he aimed for another to use as a platform.
Continuing to hop on enemy after enemy propelling himself faster than the airship was flying, deliberately Mario aimed to reach for the center of the swarm. Hopping off two more Dark creatures Mario spun and unleashed as many fireballs as he could in every direction. Mario looked more like a fire spewing tornado instead of a man as he devastated the enemy singlehandedly. As he knew it would, Mario's fireballs suddenly stopped as he and the airship went through the castle airspace and thus into the wards.
Hopping off one last enemy, Mario took out his hammer and aimed for as many of the enemy as possible as he spun around like a helicopter, slowing himself down enough for the ship to catch up. Just managing to land on the ship's spar, Mario turned to climb up the crow's nest and began all over again. Now deprived of his fireballs by the anti-magic wards and that Mario didn't have to worry about the pink lightning anymore, he threw himself at the enemy again and again, leaping from one to the next to the next. Without the pink lightning the enemy was no more dangerous to deal with than Bowsette's army typically was.
Meanwhile, the airship flew in tight circles around the castle, the crew firing the anti-air cannons to down the flying enemies while the rightmost main cannons were turned downward and started raining cannonballs on the enemy surrounding the castle. The enemy ground forces were devastated by the exploding cannonballs, Bowsette's crew wasn't screwing around with this counter invasion.

After half an hour of bombardment and Mario's efforts, the enemy was thinning considerably. Bowsette's forces rallied and began pushing them back with the support of the airship. After the cannon had defeated enough of the enemy on the ground, Bowsette's army opened the castle gates and let the shades funnel inside the wards to be crushed by a barrage of Bullet Bill cannons. The shades were being devastated left and right.
Slowly the clouds finally began fading away…

Elsewhere…
Malicious pink eyes reflected in a crystal ball, watching the victory of Bowsette's forces. "Worthless idiots!" An angry slightly distorted female voice raged at the sight. "You can't manage to take a castle one stupid plumber practically strolls into multiple times a year!?" A female human hand suddenly smacks the ball away so hard it shatters against a nearby brick wall.
The view turns to reveal the furious form of Princess Peach. The view is dark, the outline of Peach's form and her glowing pink eyes were all that was clearly visible. "RRAAAGH!" Peach is just short of frothing at the mouth as she vents her anger. "How can we make this world ours again if you're all so useless!?" She pouts and sits back on a throne that had spikes sticking out the top and Bowsette's stone face on the end of each armrest. The sound of chains rattle as Peach moves.
The assault against Koopa Keep was a complete failure, and the battle to take Toad Town was no better. SHE was there, the one who started all this thwarting the truth at every turn! Peach grasped one of the stone carvings of Bowsette on her chair. "Her." Peach crushes the carving into bits with ease. 'She did this, and she's getting in the way of showing everyone the truth, and now… now she's taking him away from me. She doesn't deserve him!' Peach kept raging in her head.
Peach scoffed. "Is he ready?" The large reptilian figure of Dark Bowser moves into view. 'Yes. He will succeed where the others have failed.' It speaks into Peach's head. "Good. Prepare him." Peach ordered and Dark Bowser rumbled off. "We will have this world again yet…" Peach's sinister laughter continued as everything faded to black…
Author's Note: As regular readers might have noticed, my releases of each chapter are slowing down. This is due to the fact that I am having trouble working out the next chapters. I know the next major story beats and how I'd like the story to end, but I'm having issues coming up with how to get there. I'll be needing a bit more time than usual.
