Chapter Five
Next Day…
The Craftsman…
Don was helping Kim clean the living room when they heard the doorbell ringing, much to their confusion, as Alan, along with Charlie and Amita, were all out, with Alan getting groceries and the professors were out on their coffee date.
"Could be Larry." Don said with a shrug when he went to answer the door, though he wondered why the older man would be coming when he had classes.
Much to his shock, and slight disgust, it wasn't Larry who was at the door.
"What are you two doing here?" Don demanded, which caught Kim's attention, as she quickly went to the door and instantly understood what he was feeling when she saw her parents.
"He asked you a question." She said angrily, upset that they just showed up now after the last time they were there.
"Look, before you two get any angrier, we just wanted to talk." Mark said, trying not to agitate the two agents.
"What about? Need money again?" Kim asked, not in the mood to deal with her parents at the moment.
"No, not that kind of help!" Ellen defended, not happy that her daughter would come to that conclusion.
"What do you want then?" Kim asked, still feeling suspicious with Don wondering what they could even possibly do to help them.
"Some old… friends are after us." Mark said cryptically
"What kind of friends? Loan sharks?" Kim asked, wondering what they had gotten themselves into.
"No, more like some gang members we made the unfortunate mistake of borrowing money from and now they are demanding we pay them back by the end of the week or there will be grave consequences." Ellen said, just desperate to get their daughter to believe them.
Both Don and Kim were alarmed by this, as whether or not they are telling the truth, they are definitely in trouble with someone.
"Who's after you?" Don asked, wondering how to even approach this.
"A guy named Burner, we don't know his real name." Mark said
Don and Kim just looked at each and they knew that they needed to figure this out quickly.
"Okay, we are taking you to the FBI, and let's try to get your story straightened out." Don offered, as he had no idea what to even do about this.
The older couple reluctantly agreed as Don took him to his car while Kim chose to stay behind, not yet wanting to deal with her parents at the moment and was grateful for her husband for taking them out of her hair for the moment.
The agents were unaware of the trouble ahead of them.
