Chapter Six
The Craftsman…
Several minutes later…
Kim was in the guest room after putting the twins in for their nap, as she found herself starting to cry, as she didn't think her parents would even think about asking for help.
'Would it even change anything?' She thought to herself in frustration, as she had remembered all the empty promises when she was younger
1985
Kim walked in to find her father on the phone, making her wonder who he could possibly be talking to, as he looked rather stressed out.
Before she could even ask, her mother had walked in with a brown bag that she had never seen before and wondered again what her parents were so worried about.
"Mom, what's going on?" She finally asked.
"Oh, we have a friend that needs a bag for some business." Her mother quickly answered as she gave her husband the said bag
Before Kim knew it, both of them had quickly left the room and out of the house and, to her dismay, were gone for five hours before returning.
When she asked where they had been that whole time, her mother shut down by saying that they had "adult business" that needed to be taken care of.
As time went on, it became more and more clear that her parents were borrowing money from people to gamble and, as a result, the family was always tight on money. That and they got involved into criminal activities in an effort to pay those people back.
Now one of those people, probably some loan shark, are coming after them for some undue payments and potentially endangering her children.
Their grandchildren.
She had no idea how to wrap her head around that.
Meanwhile…
The ride to the FBI building was quiet and Don was grateful, as he didn't even know what to even say to these people.
"Want me to put on some music?" He asked, trying to break the ice and maybe find out more information on Burner.
"No thanks, had my fill in the last couple weeks." Mark said, before the car went silent again.
Ellen was just completely silent and seemingly not paying attention to what was going on around her and Don wasn't sure what to make of it. She is usually more talkative, at least when Don has met her, so he had no idea what was up.
Don was about to try to talk to them again when he suddenly had to stop the car and was amazed at the scene ahead of him.
There were several cars, including a truck, that had crashed into each other, as he could hear several police and ambulance sirens coming from all directions.
'What is going on?' Don thought to himself as he looked on in disbelief.
It was going to have to be a long wait for the FBI building.
