Three Gryffindors running around the castle after curfew with an illegal dragon? Draco hit the jackpot. Crabbe and Goyle saw the egg hatch in Hagrid's hut, overheard Weasley talking to Thomas and Finnigan about transporting the creature to one of the Hogwarts towers this Saturday night, and reported it all back to him.

So, Saturday night, he puts on his footwear, and leaves the dungeons. He goes to McGonagall's quarters, and knocks. McGonagall opens the door.

"Mister Malfoy, it is past curfew." McGonagall notes.

"I know, professor, but as a concerned student, I feel like I'm obligated to report to you that three of your students are currently smuggling an illegal dragon through the castle." McGonagall raised her eyebrows. "This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk." Draco added.

"Follow me, Mister Malfoy." She said, and rushed to her office. "Wait for me here." She instructed him, and he did as told.

A few minutes later, she comes back with Dean Thomas, Seamus Finnigan, and, to his surprise, Harry.

"Harry?"

Harry looks at him. Surprised, and then frowns.

"Mister Malfoy, I did not find a dragon in their possession." McGonagall informs him. "With that being said," She walks behind her desk, and turns to face them. "You all broke curfew. All four of you." Oops. He's in trouble too.

McGonagall was very upset. No, she was infuriated. Draco would've enjoyed it had it been Weasley instead of Harry, as he expected. After getting told off and receiving detention in the Forbidden Forest, they are all dismissed.

"Harry, I'm so sorry." says Darco, trying to keep up with Harry's fast pace.

"I don't wanna hear it." He shuts him down.

"I didn't know you'd be there."

"How did you know any of this?" Harry halts, and turns to face him.

"I… I just know things." Draco says hesitantly, not revealing his sources.

"Unbelievable!" Harry turns away and keeps walking towards the dungeons.

"Wait!" Draco tries to catch up with him.

For the next week, Harry gives Draco the cold shoulder. He's not talking to him, not over meals, not in the dorms. Instead of hanging with him, Harry has been hanging either with Granger and Longbottom, or with Weasley and his Gryffindor friends.

On the day of the detention, they meet in the Great Hall to go out to the woods with Hagrid. Filch takes them to the hut.

"You're still not talking to me?" Draco asks Harry, as they make their way in the dark, following the light of their lanterns, as they were to perform their tasks with no magic.

"No." Says Harry, and runs to catch up with Thomas and Finnigan.

They reach the hut, and meet up with Hagrid. Draco does not understand why Harry spends so much time with people like Granger, the muggle-born, and Hagrid, the half-giant.

Hagrid leads them through the Forbidden Forest, and explains the task at hand. Apparently, some unicorns have been injured or something. Who cares?!

"We split here." Hagrid announces.

"What do you mean we split here?" Draco objected. "Aren't you supposed to stay with us the entire time?"

"Then we won't cover as much area," countered Hagrid. "Besides, being with Fang is as safe as being with me!" He reassured them. Draco was not reassured.

After a few minutes, they figured out the partition. Thomas and Finnigan were to go with Hagrid, and him and Harry with Fang.

"Listen, for the millionth time, I'm sorry." Draco pleads. "I didn't know you were gonna be with them. I honestly thought it would be Weasley."

"Well, you thought wrong." Harry said angrily. "Besides, Ron is my friend! I understand that you don't get along, but why try and harm him?"

"I didn't… I wasn't…" Draco was struggling to form his response. "I just… I just thought if Gryffindor lost more points, we'd be more likely to get the House Cup."

"Well, Congrats!" Harry said, sarcastically. "We lost just as many points."

"Well, I know that now." Draco said, trying to avoid tripping over a large branch. "I mean, how am I supposed to know you were with them if you don't tell me?"

"Excuse me?"

"You don't tell me anything!"

"Why? So you could run to McGonagall?"

"Come on, that's not fair."

Draco walked into Harry. "Why'd you stop?" Draco started to ask, but Harry shushed him.

Draco looked where Harry was looking. He saw something moving. Harry screams, and falls to his knees. His hand jolts to his scar. Fang barks.

"Harry, are you okay?" Draco tends to his friend. He looks at the trees where the thing was. It's getting closer. That shit's scary.

He points his wand upwards, and shoots a red spark, A call for help. Meanwhile, he helps Harry up, and drags.

"Come on, we gotta move."

He starts dragging Harry, but they both trip over the branch he was avoiding earlier. Now he screams. His leg. He checks it out, it's swollen. That's not good. To top it all off, Fang runs off. Very helpful.

"Help!" He shouts. "Help!"

He's not gonna die. Not like this.

As the strange thing, whatever it is, gets closer and closer, he tries harder to get up, but to no avail. He takes a look at the creature, and tries to make out the details, but it's too dark.

Suddenly, another creature jumps from the trees behind them, and jumps over them. A centaur. It scares off the other creature.

"Thank God!" Draco cheers!

"What are you two doing here alone at night?" the centaur asks firmly, but kindly.

Harry seems to have regained consciousness. "What… what happened?"

"Your friend saved your life." The centaurs answered. Harry seems embarrassed. Draco says nothing. "My name is Firenze by the way."

The centaur explains to them that this is the creature that's been killing the unicorns.

"Why?" asks Harry.

"Unicorn blood." Firenze simply answers.

"Sorry, I don't follow." Draco said.

"The blood of a unicorn will keep you alive, even if you are an inch from death, but at a terrible price. You have slain something pure and defenseless to save yourself, and you will have but a half-life, a cursed life, from the moment the blood touches your lips." Firenze says. So dramatic.

He then gives them a ride to Hagrid. He tells them some more stuff about centaurs and stars and whatnot. Harry seems to be actually interested in what Firenze is saying. Or pretending to be. He could never understand how nice Harry is to people around him. Even when they're undeserving.

Hagrid meets them halfway. "Is everything okay? I saw the spark, and Fang is back." He held Fang's leash.

"Yes, no thanks to you…" Draco said, earning a glare from Harry.

"We're okay. Thank you, Hagrid." Harry said.

The walk back to the hut, and then to the castle, was pretty quiet and eventful. Especially compared to their time in the Forbidden Forest. Hagrid carried Draco, since he broke his leg. He's taken to the hospital ward, where Madam Pomfrey fixes it within several minutes. Once he was ready to walk, he and Harry made their way back to the dungeons.

"Thank you." Harry said, quietly. On their way back. "For saving my life."

"It's nothing," said Draco.

Awkward silence.

"Friends again?" Draco offers his hand.

Harry hesitates for a second, but then shakes it.
