Nobody died. Whoever sent the Dark Mark into the sky was not found. People just assumed it was one of the Death Eaters. Sirius and Remus didn't though.
"The mark must've scared them [Death Eaters] away," Sirius said, which confused Harry at first. But then, Remus explained why.
Harry did not go to Malfoy Manor again for the rest of the summer. Draco did, however, spend most of it at Harrys's, which Harry enjoyed.
Soon enough it was time for them to go back to Hogwarts. The trip to Hogwarts was exceptionally uneventful this year; especially compared to previous years. Harry was able to get to the platform, and there were no Dementors on the train. Harry and Draco were joined by Hermione and Neville in the compartment.
"Did you watch the World Cup final?" All Draco seemed to talk about these days.
Hermione did not go. She was not too interested in Quidditch. Neville did, though. He went with his grandmother who, apparently, is a Quidditch enthusiast.
"I did hear about the Dark Mark, though." Hermione said, "that's scary."
"Yeah, my granny says it's the first time in almost a decade…" Neville said.
"It probably means nothing." Draco shrugged it off. "The Dark Lord is still dead."
"Well," Harry interjected, "not dead."
"Yeah, yeah." Draco corrected himself, "bodiless?"
"What do you mean he's not dead?" Neville asked.
The rest of the train ride went by fast. Hermione read in her book, Neville ate his Chocolate frogs, Draco took a nap on Harry's shoulder, and Harry just looked outside the window, deep in thought.
After the feast that night Dumbledore announced the Triwizard Tournament happening in Hogwarts for the first time in a… very long time.
"If the tournament was cancelled because competitors died, why are they restarting it?"Draco whispered to Harry.
Harry shrugged.
"…you have to be a seventh-year student to qualify…" Dumbledore said, received by a groan from multiple sources within the Great Hall, but it seemed to have mostly come from the Gryffindor table.
The Durmstrang and Beauxbatons students were scheduled to arrive in two months, and names drawn from the Goblet of Fire the day after.
"Who do you think will represent Hogwarts?" Draco turned to Harry.
For the next two months, that's all Draco could talk about: the Triwizard Tournament. The countless renditions of the World Cup match were replaced with an unhealthy obsession with the tournament.
"It's very dangerous!" Draco would say, and then go on to list all the ways past competitors managed to meet their fate.
Harry indulged it, as he does all of Draco's fleeting obsessions. Harry thinks it's kinda amusing how Draco always manages to find something to obsess over. Hermione, on the other hand, did not get what all the fuss is about.
"You won't get it." Draco said, and waved her off, which got Hermione fuming.
Draco's next obsession would be: quidditch star Victor Krum.
"Is that…" Draco stood up to get a better look from his seat at the Slytherin table, "is that Victor Krum?!" He asked, very enthusiastically, when he recognized him on the day the students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons arrived.
That was indeed Victor Krum. He was one of the Durmstrang students who came for the tournament. For the entirety of the next day, Harry had to listen to Draco fangirl over Krum. Harry did not enjoy that.
"He's an excellent seeker! Have you seen him at the World Cup final?", but it did not stop at his quidditch skills, "and have you seen his biceps? They're huge!"
Harry also has hu… Well! Who needs huge biceps anyways?
By dinner time, Harry was familiar with every trivia there is to know about Krum. After dinner, it was time to draw the names out of the Goblet of Fire.
"Fleur Delacour!" Dumbledore announced the first competitor, from Beauxbatons. She got up and went through a door at the back of the Great Hall.
"Victor Krum!" Dumbledore announced the second competitor, from Durmstarng. Draco was thrilled! Krum did the same as Delacour.
"And, our very own…" Dumbledore said, as he pulled out a third piece of paper from the goblet, "Cedric Diggory!" He too got up, and followed the two others.
That's it. The three competitors of this year's Triwizard Tournament. Except…
The goblet was not done. It lit up one more time, and spit out another piece of paper. Dumbledore, confused as everyone else, caught it. He opened it, and read out, loudly but calmly: "Harry Potter."
No applause this time. There were a few gasps though. Everyone in the Great Hall looked at Harry, who was shocked himself.
"Harry Potter." Dumbledore called out again. Draco who was sitting right next to him nudged him. Harry stood up and followed the other competitors to Merlin knows where.
