"Good luck, Harry!" Hermione found him before the task and gave him a tight hug.
"Thanks!" He thanked her, nervously. "Have you seen Draco?"
Harry hasn't seen him since yesterday. When he went to sleep, Draco was still not back, and when he woke up, Draco was already gone.
"I haven't." Hermione frowned, "did you see him this morning?"
"No."
"Don't worry about it. He's probably with Michael."
"Yeah, probably." That does not make him feel any better.
"You got the Gillyweed?" Hermione checks.
He got the Gillyweed. It was Neville's idea.
After Harry and Draco told her about the egg, leaving out the part where they were in a bathtub together, she casually mentioned it to Neville who read about a plant that would let Harry breath underwater.
Harry, Draco, and Hermione snuck into the Herbology greenhouse and stole some Gillyweed. They tested the amount needed for an hour in the lake prior to the task.
"I got it." He answered, and showed it to her.
"It's so soft," she touched it.
"It's time!" A voice came from behind Harry.
Hermione wished him luck once more and left.
The champions were in position now; the judges table right behind them.
"Good luck!" Cedric turned to Harry, who simply nodded.
Harry looked up to the audience, looking for Draco. It was really hard to see from that far.
"Ready,"
Is that Michael? Harry squints in an attempt to see better…
"Set,"
Draco must be around him. He looks for him…
"Go!"
Draco's not with Michael either.
Harry takes the Gillyweed and jumps into the lake. He has one hour to retrieve whatever valuable thing was taken from him, but his mind was preoccupied with Draco.
Focus!
He swims after the other champions. The lake is much deeper than he had imagined, and he never learned how to swim as a kid, so he lagged behind half-shark Krum and Cedric.
So, Draco isn't with Michael. What's that about? Are they fighting? No… Harry wants Draco to be happy.
Focus!
Harry now can hear the merpeople singing. He swims towards the voice. He starts to see a blurry image at the bottom of the lake. It's very dark and the water distorting the light makes it really hard to determine whatever it was he was looking at. He gets closer…
There he was. Draco. Draco was the valuable thing that's been taken from him.
"Draco!" He called out, but Draco was unconscious.
He headed towards the center, and the merpeople simply let him through. He started untying the ropes around Draco, which proved to be hard with the webbing between his fingers. Once he had Draco, he looked around. He noticed that there one another hostage. A young blonde girl, whom he assumed was Fleur's valuable thing given how ahead both Cedric and Krum were. He looked behind him, Fleur is nowhere nearby. He looks at his watch, the one he got for Christmas three years ago from Draco, and he realized that it is very unlikely Fleur would be able to save the girl if she's not here right now.
He headed towards the girl, but was blocked by a merman.
"Only save your person."
"I can't leave her here."
"Yes, you can."
Harry was not gonna leave that poor girl there to die. He reached for his wand in his pocket and blasted the merman. The other merpeople rushed toward him, but he was quick and he slowed them down using the same spell Hermione used on the pixies in second year, and he used on the Whomping Willow last year. They were now floating around him, unable to stop or hurt him. He moved to the girl, untied the ropes around her, and grabbed both her and Draco and rose to the surface.
The audience roared once he reached the surface. He didn't care, though. He saved Draco, who was now waking up, and that's all that mattered.
