10 days after the fight
As the Sun peaked over the many white-capped mountain ranges of Solitas, another day had begun in the land of the forever cold.
Even here in this frozen landscape, the Sun had risen for all to bask under. It was no different for the newly christened Azure Wolf, formerly Jaune Arc, who had also arose from his makeshift shelter at the crack of dawn. Eager to fill his belly and continue his trek through the wilderness.
Hunting had become almost therapeutic to him now that It was a nearly daily occurrence. Having to slow down and take his time has taught him the many virtues of patience and with the large deer he'd managed to score for himself, his mood was decidedly good this morning. After carrying the kill back to his campsite, he skinned and cleaned the meat via a nearby stream.
Preparing meat was something his mother, thankfully had taught him in his younger days. She would always try to persuade him to take on being a chef as his occupation, he very well could have on account of his meals being so delicious. He was quite the cook when he finally got the hang of it. Alas, even with all of her encouraging yet somewhat controlling efforts, she couldn't get him to turn away from his dreams.
He reminisced quietly as he cut the meat into individual slabs to skewer. As the meat slowly cooked in the fire, he glossed over the map once more. About fifty miles of land have been passed by on foot so far, not bad honestly, though he still had a fair amount of miles ahead of him. He wasn't in any real hurry however, he was actually enjoying his trek and the sights that came with it.
In his downtime, he would train as often as possible, he didn't want to waste even a moment of his time. How ironic considering that he used to be quite the slacker.
What were once very difficult maneuvers for him, were now near-effortless as he flipped and cartwheeled in-between strikes and stabs. His mimicry of the majestic canines he once roamed and ate with was now complete and he was quite confident with it. During his many sessions, he often took advantage of the environment around him. Trees became spring boards and potential shields, the snow itself became a cloak if need be. Azure always had a tactical mind even before all of this, so it came naturally for him to use the best laid plans available. Nothing was off limits to him when it came to combat and survival.
Eventually, he finished his routine after building up a good sweat and headed back to the fire to check the meat. He figured out early on in his time in the wild that any way of enhancing the taste of the food was essential, so rummaging in the greener woods for edible herbs was a no-brainer. With a little bit of trial and error, he was able to gather and mix together a blend of crushed Oregano, Sage and Solitasian Sorrel that packed just the right amount of flavor for times such as this. Even in the wild, he still at least tried to be fancy.
After his meal, it was back to the road for him. The young man had no intention of wasting precious daylight and it was nearly noon already. Once he was finished eating, he quickly packed away the meat he could carry, kicked some snow into the campfire and grabbed his pack before setting off.
True to form however, the time spent traveling was also put to good use.
Several times during his trek, he used his newfound semblance to gauge its overall capability. Often times while he walked, it was active, he enjoyed seeing the world in its ultra-colorful state. To him, it was the same as knowing some world-breaking secret, and only he was in on it.
A long, three days later and Azure had also managed to figure out some the overall quirks to his ability. For starters, while everything living in his vision with aura had color, Grimm did not. Through his eyes, the Grimm were a hazy, and smoky substance that occasionally varied in size. The only constant, being the red eyes they all shared. At times, glowing blue lines would appear along their shifting bodies, sometimes a straight line across the chest or a few intersecting lines on some part of the beasts. Though, he wasn't exactly sure what their purpose was currently.
Another essential feature to his newfound semblance, was its duration of activation. It usually lasted for as long as he could focus and hold it, around a minute or so mostly. Anything past that would result in a short but nasty headache, that being said he still tried to push the limits of how long he could maintain it. It seemed to also have a something of a cool-down as well. Fortunately, a few days of practice showed progress as his sixty second duration became one hundred and eighty seconds, he was really focused on making some sort of headway with his skill where he could.
Though the journey wasn't all training and good times, Azure had done quite a bit of thinking on what he should do next. He still wanted very much so to help people in anyway he could, he just couldn't do legally as a huntsman now. The Mercenary and Bounty Hunter ideas where a good start, but how and where should he start?
He had no intention of returning to Vale of course, but where else could he go then? For the most part, he assumed that the world at large would have at least issued a wanted bounty for the fraudulent ex-student so that could be an issue later. A part of him wondered if he should just stay in the wild, he was certainly comfortable with the idea. That being said, the entire point of him being there and training was to survive and eventually leave, Azure knew himself well enough to know that he needed social interactions for his own sanity's sake.
Hell, it wasn't his choice to even be out here, someone else made that decision for him. To him, staying there would be like saying Cardin won and he simply wouldn't have that. He refused to give Cardin or anyone who didn't like him, the satisfaction of knowing he was stuck in the wilderness like some damned hermit.
Mantle and Atlas seem to be the best places to try a get an idea of where he should go from here. Then again, Atlas was pretty much the Lions den when it came to the authority of the law. He'd have to tread carefully if he wanted to stay under the radar, hopefully he could get in and get out reasonably quickly. If nothing else, maybe he could at least catch a Bullhead out of Solitas or something.
However, as soon as the idea came, Azure had a truly horrific epiphany.
He had no money! Not a single credit of Lien, nada, nothing at all!
With the realization of just how penniless he was creeping in, he quickly scrambled through his pack for anything of any kind of monetary value. That is until he realized that he still had something of value, that bandits Halberd strapped to his back was still in very good condition. Definitely worth a few Lien at a local Blacksmith or Huntsman shop. He even considered selling the shield portion of Crocea Mors but, strangely enough, he hesitated a bit before settling on just the Halberd.
He wanted to get rid of Crocea Mors as soon as he could, but selling it just didn't sit right with him.
[O]
Another three days of walking, training, hunting and the occasional Grimm killing later and Azure spotted something in the distance that made him stop and stare.
It didn't take much time for him cross over the nearby hillside, just beyond the field was a somewhat large town fit with houses, business buildings, roads and the like. Each building was a Different shade of blue, yet the colors perfectly matched the area around the town. It was civilization, it was life itself and he could feel it. What truly surprised him however, was the massive structure nestled in the nearby mountains behind the town.
A castle, by the look of it. Two spires parallel the sides of the main building, both were connected via abridge to the centermost structure. The lower sections were covered in columns and archways as the building sprawled out into what looked to be a courtyard. The entire castle was nestled into the wall of the mountain itself, no doubt connected to its caverns as well.
While he was absolutely stunned by the beautiful scenery before him, the town was his main focus. It looked to be quite the well functioning area, probably housing at least a few thousand people. They must have some sort of delivery system in place for the exports and imports in order to be able to live so far from Atlas. Azure had high hopes of there being a blacksmith in town, so he quickly sprinted down the hill.
It only took about an hour to reach the town, upon his arrival however, he came across another something that he really had no idea what to do about.
A checkpoint booth, right in the middle of the roadway and sidewalk entrance to the town with matching toll bridges. 'Huh. Didn't expect that...' Azure mused to himself as he came closer to the small line of individuals trying to gain access inside.
He noticed that the booth was manned by one person, a stout but somewhat tired-looking bear faunus. His furry, dark brown ears complemented his smooth, neck-long auburn hair and his light gray overcoat. Azure's observation was cut short however as the man quickly locked eyes with him after noticing the blond young man walking up to him from the field.
"Thats close enough, state your name and purpose for being here." The burly Faunus huffed loudly, clear exhaustion could be heard in his voice. Azure mumbled awkwardly for a second before straightening himself and answered.
"O-oh, My name's Azure Wolf. I'm just a wanderer looking for a place thats not outside to sleep."
The earth-toned man scanned the boy up and down, not entirely convinced. "A wanderer? I find that hard to believe, nobody's crazy or dumb enough to try their hand out there." Gesturing to the frozen expanse behind them, Azure looked back for moment, a short contemplation before speaking.
"I get that sir, it wasn't exactly one of my better ideas. I could just really use a shower and bed right now." The young man began showing the guard his belongings inside of his pack and his haul of hunted meat while explaining bits and pieces of his time in the Tundra. "You've been out there for months?... Jeez kid, you must be tough as nails now." He commented as he continued to look at the young mans items, "Ok, that's enough. Leave the meat behind and I'll get you registered and squared away. Got a scroll?
"Sadly no, its out there now." Azure finished glumly as he set the meat to side of the gate. He really did lose his scroll in the wild, but as he thought about it, that may be for the best.
"Man that sucks. Anyway, here's a small map of the town and immediate area. There's a really nice inn that doubles as an all-purpose storefront straight ahead and then a left at the end of the road." Azure graciously took the pamphlet, the words 'Welcome to Titan,' was sprawled across the front cover in white letters. He flipped the side with the map open, spotted the inn on the map and took a mental note of it for later before putting the pamphlet away.
"And how long do you plan on staying in Titan," the guard asked as he started typing into his scroll.
"I'm... not sure," Azure humbly mumbled to which the guardsman gave him a look of pure pity. "Hey, I get it man. You've been in the wild for a bit too long and need some time to get back into some kind of normalcy." This surprised the young man quite a bit, he wasn't expecting this kind of response in the slightest but the guard had a valid point. "I'll just keep yours blank for the time being," with a few extra clicks, on his screen appeared a bright green checkmark.
"You're all set, Mr. Wolf. Hope you enjoy your stay here in Titan. Names Tan Grizzli by way, if you ever need anything, just come find me." With a smile, Azure gave him a firm nod and set out into the almost city-town.
Walking past the large, steel gates, his heart soared as soon as he heard the hustle and bustle of community. He was pleasantly surprised to see other people, buying, selling and just living their lives. It warmed his heart a great deal to just be back in some form of civilization, so he made sure to relish the moment. Months of not knowing wether or not he would even make it out of the Tundra in one piece had started to weigh heavily on him, this was just what he needed to help get himself back on some kind of track at least.
The streets were paved and smooth, the buildings were sleek and streamlined, giving the city/town a futuristic aesthetic do a degree. The further he walked into Titan, the more amazed he was by the architecture of the place. That being said, he couldn't help but wonder how could this place be thriving so well, the town itself was only half as big as Mantle but was in far better condition. Granted, Mantle has been through a lot of turmoil so that couldn't really be helped.
Another major difference here was that they had no mass dust-heating system for the entire town like in Mantle and Atlas though the temperature was somewhat bearable and movement of the outside air around Titan was incredibly still. Minus the falling snow, the wind was near-completely non-existent which made him very curious as he explored the city. His exploration came to screeching halt however, as soon as he arrived at the Inn there was a commotion of sorts going on nearby.
As he turned to look around, he quickly noticed the makings of a bar nearly next door to the Inn. Definitely a rowdy bunch of guys in there apparently as the occasional bottle flew out of the window, followed by a string of shouts and curses. 'Note to self, stay away from the bar,' he inwardly commented just in time to see a drunken man thrown out of the same broken window the bottle came from.
After choosing to ignore the rowdy festivities going on next-door, he stepped past the classic, wooden doors of the inn without any further waiting.
Upon entering, he was pleasantly surprised at the rustic look and feel of the place, Deer, Elk and Boar heads covered the walls of the inner hall. The wood walls gave the entire place a giant log-cabin kind of feeling. Past the reception area, he could see the exceptionally large dining hall equipped with two long, wooden tables to each side of the room. Each table had fifteen chairs on each side, a total of sixty chairs in all. The center piece that put it all together however, was a hot coal pit that stretched from just before the ends of the table all the way to the back wall to connect to a wide chimney with a well stoked fire.
Overall, Azure approved. This place was nice, too bad about the location however, being situated right next to a popular bar.
"If you're done sightseeing, I can take care of you over here." The voice of a woman echoed from behind him, turning around made him realize that he'd somehow walked right past the reception desk and by extension, her.
The 'her' in question was quite the oddity to behold.
An extensively long, faded blue ponytail adorned the mid-high section of the back of her head, though she had several strings of hair hanging down her face from her hairline. Below that, was a thick, black headband that completely covered her forehead and eyes. Her cobalt lipstick covered her plump lips and contrasted well with her fair skin and hair.
From her neck down to her feet, she was draped in a steel gray, thick, furred coat which ended just slight of her ankles. Her inner wear consisted of a glittering black, skin-tight dress. The dress itself thinned down the middle like a loincloth and revealed a substantial amount of leg and finally, the dark blue heels that adorned her feet accentuated her entire ensemble in way that screamed risqué.
"Oh! Sorry about that, I'm Azure Wolf. I was told this inn had a shop I could sell some stuff at?" He softly smiled at who he assumed was the receptionist as he waited for her response.
She in turn, smiled softly before speaking. Her voice was beautifully melodic, "Nice meeting you, Azure. I'm Cyan Luna but please just call me Moon, and this is my inn. I do indeed have a shop and we are well stocked on weapons, armor and dust. That being said, I'd be more than willing to purchase anything of value." She quickly turned and gestured to a nearby hallway, "Follow me, I'll show you to the shop and you can tell me a little bit about yourself on the way," her smile was in full view now.
"Oh, before you ask, it's my semblance. I can control vibrations. I felt you once you opened the door." She stated it as if it was a matter of fact, incidentally it was. Well, he was wondering how she seemed to know her way around while being blindfolded, his guess was that she probably had to answer the question often.
The look on his face must've been quite the readable expression, because once she saw it, she instantly started to giggle. He was pretty confused by her laughter as he slowly made his way past the counter and down the hall. "Sorry, but it's pretty obvious that you aren't from around here and I couldn't resist." She laughed giddily as she led the way down the hall.
"Yea, I had no idea this place even existed until today," Azure pointed out to her.
"Yes, most people outside Solitas have never heard of Titan. I imagine that must have something to do with the Atlesian cartographers who blatantly pass our town. Sometime ago, we were much closer with Mantle and Atlas in terms of trade and commerce but a few too many deals went sour, and they tried to push themselves on us with ridiculous regulations so we choose to cut our ties. We've been on thin ice with them ever since." She twirled one of her bangs in thought as she explained the workings of Titan.
"We've been here for decades, though originally it was just that huge castle out there. The first lord of the castle at the time was quite the renowned warrior, it was they who cleared the area and made the first settlement here. Citizens from many other small villages made their way here and after a few dozen years, Titan came to be."
An entire city under the radar, Azure wondered if more places like this existed out in the world. Though his pondering came to an end soon enough as they rounded a left corner and quickly came into wide, open room.
Everything from swords, spears, stakes and the like was hung from the wall of every corner. Beautifully crafted armors were dressed on mannequins and mechashift weapons put in display cases to be seen and marveled at. Moving further into the shop space, the front desk was situated perfectly in front of a large display of swords, by now Azure was gawking at the sheer size of the room itself.
Moon, however, had already situated herself behind the desk and was already prepared to appraise whatever it was that he had. "Did you want me to look at that sword on your hip," Moon leaned her head to the side as she asked.
Shaking his head furiously, he quickly reached behind his back and grabbed the Halberd before setting it flat on the table. "Hmm. Well thats just as good too," she quipped.
Delicately, Moon lifted the pole-arm and held it in a two-handed stance. What took place next was more like a showcase instead of an appraisal. She removed her blindfold, revealing her white eyes and with a small huff, she began twirling the Halberd in her hands, going from overhead, switching hands and then behind her back before finally returning to a even postured stand. "Oh my, what a marvelous weapon. Its handle is made of Ivory and a composite material mixture. Its sturdy and still contains its white color which is very nice."
Her hands continued to gently glide over the pole-arm as she gave more detail to her verdict. A wide grin was present on her face the entire time.
"Whoever made this was quite the artisan, it seems. The blade and spear are both Steel of course, but it feels like there are fluctuating amounts of Oumium mixed in them too. Ordinarily, this would make the blade far too heavy but somehow, this works."
She then tilted her head up to face him, and although he couldn't see her eyes he knew she was looking at him. "Now I must know... Where did you get this from, if I may ask?"
His response was simple: the truth. His sighed and just came out with it, "Would you believe me if I told you I took it off a bandit that was trying to kill me?" To which she replied, "That depends... what where you doing to be on a bandits 'kill list' to begin with?"
"It's a very long story, ma'am-,"
"Stop," she silenced him just as quickly as he began. His mouth slammed shut like a mouse trap, "First, please don't call me ma'am, I told you my name so that you could use it. Second, for a weapon this beautiful I've got all the time in the world." She smiled again, 'thankfully she really wants the Halberd,' Azure thought to himself.
"Ok, well it all started in a Bullhead..."
[O]
Having to once again tell the tale of his situation was starting to make him think a lot about how he was going to pull off becoming a completely new person. The 'how,' part mostly, was he going to have to wear a mask forever or surgically change his face?
He prayed to whatever deities he could think of that it wouldn't come to that.
That being said, he told his tale. Obviously omitting the parts about the academy, student body and ultimately, his original identity. He basically told her that he was a upstart mercenary and he'd been on a Bullhead taking him to Mantle to get trained for an upcoming job until the airship was attacked by a flock of Nevermore. He was knocked out of the ship, knocked out cold and woke up in the snow hours later. As for the bandit part, he was able to make up a story about an ambush, which was pretty close to the truth minus the wolves.
" Oh my... you been through quite the harrowing ordeal," she sympathized. Azure just awkwardly scratched his head as he began to respond.
"Well it wasn't all that bad, honestly. For a little while, it was almost peaceful." He reminisced on the wolf pack for a brief moment before getting back on track.
"How much do you think I could get for the Halberd? If it's a good price, could you just factor in a room too?" He was eager to sell his wears so to speak. However, she once again started to laugh, this time with even more excitement than before. Only after she regained her composure from nearly losing her breath, she was ready to explain herself.
"Again, I'm sorry but I couldn't charge you for a room after hearing a story like that. It just so happens that I have a few spare rooms available so I'll just pick one for you and don't worry about the payment. As far as this beauty is concerned, it's condition is damn-near pristine and its made with Ivory and Oumium. So I don't mind giving you a decent price for it. 7,000 lien sound good to you?"
Azure was floored, "A-Are you sure that this is all ok?"
"Of course is it, I own the place after all. Pretty sure I've got the funds to take care of it." Her grin only grew wider after that declaration. Suddenly, the grinning became contagious as Azure found starting to slightly smile, his luck was starting to take a turn for the better. "Well, if that took care of everything here, I can take you back up to the front desk and get your room keys." She was just beginning to walk out of her desk space before Azure held up a hand.
"Actually, I was wondering if I could have a look around? I've been looking for a new weapon, honestly." He asked as he scanned the spacious room.
"Something wrong with that sword you've got? I could probably fix it for you." Moon offered as she held out a hand.
"No, no... thats not it," His objection was swift, he didn't want her to misunderstand what he would say next. "The sword's fine, it just doesn't belong to me, you know? I couldn't tear up someone else's property, not anymore than I've already done."
Understanding the young mans answer, she nodded sagely and waved her hand in acceptance. "Have at it, Azure. I'm not busy and you've got me in a good mood. Just consider it as an extra thanks for the Halberd."
"You've been really generous, Moon. Thanks." He gave her a thumbs up as he smiled
"Azure. You've been through hell, what kind of person would I be if didn't help you? That and you've got something about you... I'm not sure what, but you definitely have the 'it'."
"The 'it'?"
"Yup. You're gonna be somebody, I can tell and I've got a good eye for these things."
Honestly, he really wasn't sure how to feel about that. Compliments like that didn't really sit well with him now considering everything that's happened.
After another awkward laugh and another gracious thank you, he took a walk around the closest corner to explore the shop.
Rounding another corner he made his way to what appeared to be the sword section, he figured that keeping in line with what he's been training and fighting with was the smart thing to do. He passed by a multitude of bladed weaponry, from Longswords and Claymores to Katanas and Scimitars, each with its own variety of mechashifting options, none of which peaked his interest. He was just on his way out of that section of the small but large warehouse, until the shimmer of something caught his eye.
The source being a short blade, almost a glorified knife to be fair. As he examined it he noted that it had a slight inward curve though its blade was still double-sided, further down was its black, textured grip handle. The blade itself couldn't have been longer than seventeen inches, but it piqued his interest all the same. His eyes caught the handle and spotted something peculiar however. At the point where the handle and the blade met, there was a small gear or engine of sorts built in. Attached to the front of that was a curved metal throttle that hung down almost parallel with the handle by an inch and a half.
He was intrigued to say the least, so he grabbed the short sword and continued his exploration.
Long ranged weapons had also been a constant thought that ran through his mind but he wasn't keen on carrying a bow any longer. Sure, he'd grown to be decent with one, but after giving it some serious thought, he couldn't help but feel that the bow and arrows would slow him down in a fight against trained Bandits, Crime-lords and possible rogue huntsmen and huntresses with his current skill. Granted, it wasn't like he could just pick up a gun and go nuts, he knew he'd be here for a while so he took his time searching for anything he felt could be a good fit.
'Maybe I'm coming at this from the wrong angle... What about dust?' His epiphany was quick, 'Dust! Duh! Why didn't I think about that sooner?' With that in mind, Azure turned around and made his way back to the front desk to ask few questions.
Once he returned to the desk he placed the small blade unto it for Moon to examine, though once her hand touched the sheath, she had already known what it was that he had.
"Oh, you found something special...," she pointed towards the weapon as she continued.
"That, is a Kukri. It's like a machete but curved in the front, it's quite balanced and this one in particular was a custom job from a friend of mine a few years ago, he works at a forge in Argus now." She explained with a little bit of history to match, she had more had well "It's a High-Frequency Blade basically, I test it out for him and keep it in top condition on occasion."
Her preview of the blade was well done and Azure was impressed at how informative that was, "Wow... So what's this gear and throttle for down here," Moon's own hand traced over the gear mechanism softly as she started to speak again.
"That's what he dubbed an 'Engine Gear,' it generates a high-power vibration through the blade which vastly increases its cutting potential in stages. The first click of the throttle activates the first level or "gear," two clicks is second gear and three etc. Third gear is the highest as it generates the most power and vibration. Each level packs a serious punch and when combined with Aura, you can slice through reinforced most metals easily."
By now Azure was stunned silent, 'This little almost dagger was actually a powerhouse the whole time?' He was pretty thrown off now, looking at the hidden gem in his right hand.
"How much-,"
"Take it Azure, it's not like I'm the upstarting Merc here," She lightly jabbed with a smirk. "Anything else?"
"Hehe thanks again Moon, and actually yeah. Do you have any long-range, Dust-compatible, weaponsthat aren't guns or bows?" A humble question sure, but an awkward one as well.
"That's oddly specific...," Moon tipped her head to the side in thought. "Hmm, nothing comes to mind off the top of my he-... Actually, I think I may have something right up your alley." She reached underneath her desk, fumbling around for something in one of her cabinets until, "Ah! Found it."
In her arisen hand was a gold trimmed rectangularly-shaped black box about the size of her entire hand. She set it down on her desk gently in front of him before opening the lid.
Laying on a maroon red cushion was three rings, none were Gold, but all were Silver. One of the rings, larger than the others had a bright red glow to it. Upon further inspection it was revealed to be a fire dust crystal, cut perfectly to the ring and of an amazing quality. The medium looking ring carried a blue Dust crystal within, more that likely water or ice Dust. Finally, the smallest ring glowed white with a wind Dust crystal in its center.
They had no inscriptions or overt designs, just sleek and to-the-point smoothness. "I actually bought these off a traveling nomad, she had made them herself and ensured me that the dust inside would last for quite sometime on account of their high quality and wow, was she telling the truth! I had them appraised and yea, the Dust is pure and untainted, only downside is that I can't sell them here because they're weren't legally processed. At least with you, they'll get good use. She even gave me a few custom cut gems just in case." She dropped a pouch next to the black jewelry box on the desk.
"Woah, so how does it work?" Azure quietly asked. Too amazed with his new load out to raise his voice.
"Thumb ring is fire, middle finger is water and pinky is wind, channel your aura into whichever crystal and use your hand basically. Throw it, flick it, whatever you want pretty much."
However, after hearing that Azure was confused, "Wait, doesn't Dust hurt with skin contact?" Moon nonchalantly leaned in front of him, her cheshire grin persisted, "Ordinarily yes, but because the rings are holding the Dust the drawback is nonexistent on the wielder as long as you don't overdo it."
Azure couldn't believe this, he was able to get a room and a new set of weapons all in one day of being here! Moon really was a saint, even if her awkward smiling made him a bit uncomfortable. "H-how can I ever repay you for this," he couldn't just take all of this, he had to something to balance the scale.
"You take it and shut up about it, that's how." His mouth snapped shut while he lowered his head. She smirked at the scene clearly she was having fun with this conversation.
Buuuut... if you really feel like you need to pay me baaaaack...," her words dragged along as she stressed her point. "You could accompany on a little... 'Mission,' of sorts. It'll get you a chance to practice with those too."
Well that was right up his alley, pay off a debt, help someone and get in some more training?
What's not to like about that?
Words from the Author:
Back at it again for the new year! Chapter two coming in hot!~ Not alot going on this time besides Jaune getting himself together but I definitely wanted to get the story progressing at a good pace.
Next chapter, we're headed back to Beacon to see how things are since Jaunes disappearance.
Btw, the new Full Bloom chapter is pretty much done too, just needs some proof reading.
No, Death in our Breath is not on hiatus, I've just been taking a break on it to get my other stories up to speed. Really just want to make sure you guys have enough reading material to hold you over for a bit.
Now, to answer a few questions and comments:
Gonsmoss: No, I don't plan on doing anything with his sisters and they will not have any place in Beacon. No, I don't plan on making the story one big pity party for Jaune and I have no intentions of making everything hunky-dory if he returns(big if).
MogtheGnome: Define 'better life?' His life in the wild is a means to an end, not an end goal. It wasn't his choice to be there and ultimately his aspirations didn't go away because he was in the wild. He couldn't leave because he had no idea what was outside his own stomping grounds, not because he chose to just sit and stay. Sure, nobody gives a damn but does that mean he has to be hermit? Not at all.
Randosm: Very good point with the whole friends again thing.
While certain people do and may start to have second thoughts about Jaunes treatment, I don't want to have team RWBY or JNPR just up and latch back onto him after having a change of heart. If anything, I kinda want to lean this story into the canon more but with Jaune being on his own during some of those events.
Maybe instead of the Relic saving Ruby in s6, Jaune pulls up, saves the day and leaves without a word, leaving the main cast confused and wondering. Just little ideas like that.
Later peeps
