Things are quiet. Too quiet. It's still a lot to get used to, this new way of life. California being under official stay at home orders had left Ricardo and Alicia antsy, unsure what exactly to do about it all. Their friends are all nearby, enduring the same thing- Ricardo feels bad for AJ and his sister, trying to comfort their kids and get them to abide by it all, but he knows it's a lot for anyone to go through right now, already itching for normalcy, to go play sports, do something. All of his wrestling events have been canceled, so he sits blankly and watches random things on TV, he and Alicia quietly switching back and forth between his selections and hers.
Eventually she tires of it all and leans against him, closing her eyes. "I don't think we're going to get to Europe now," she says softly and he exhales shakily.
The thought had crossed his mind too, but it'd hurt too much to focus on. Hearing it from her, however, leaves him with no choice but to face it. "I'm not sure either," he admits, brushing his fingers through her hair. "But somehow, someday, we will. I promise you."
She sits up a little and cradles his face in her hands, searching his eyes. "Promise me something."
He nods. "What?"
"You'll stay inside as much as possible, ok?" She presses her forehead to his and exhales. "You have enough health issues, I can't... I won't lose you to this. Alright? You swear?"
He nods. "I swear. I was already planning on staying inside as much as I could." He smiles shakily up at her. "I know it's a scary time full of uncertainty, but I'm going to do all I can to make sure you won't lose me. But you," he says, tapping her nose, "have to do the same for me. Ok?"
She nods, tears filling her eyes. "I promise. I'm not going anywhere any time soon."
He smiles at her. "Good. I feel better already." He lifts her hands and kisses her knuckles. "Do you?"
"A little," she sighs, kissing him gently. "But not really."
"I understand. It's not a good time to relax and just be. I feel tense and anxious too." She rests her head on his shoulder once more and he sits quietly, running his fingers through her hair gently. "Just rest, try not to think too much. When sleep comes, don't fight it." He's speaking softly to her, quiet and slow, and she giggles.
"You're better than any ASMR I've ever tries to listen to. Can think be an every night thing?"
He smiles down at her, watching as her eyes blink slower and slower, her words slowly starting to drift as sleep creeps up on her. "Anything you need from me, Alicia. I will always be here for you."
The next time he checks, she's fast asleep, lips parted slowly and fingers twisting gently around his shirt. He smiles.
