The two friends walked away from Potter Manor, leaving behind a shattered friendship and a sense of betrayal. Remus guided Sirius, who was in a state of disbelief and heartbreak, away from the place that held so many cherished memories. As they moved farther from the manor, Remus's anger began to subside, replaced by a deep sadness.
"I can't believe it,," Sirius said, his voice choked with emotion. "After everything we've been through together, how could James just turn his back on me like that?"
Remus tightened his grip on Sirius's shoulder, offering him some comfort. "I don't know, Sirius, but remember, you're not alone. You still have me. We'll get through this together."
Sirius nodded, tears streaming down his face. "I know, Moony. It's just... James was like a brother to me. We were supposed to be brothers forever."
Remus's own eyes welled up with tears, but he fought to stay strong for Sirius. "Sometimes people change, Sirius. Sometimes they let others influence their decisions, even if it means hurting those who care about them the most."
"I just can't believe he would listen to Dumbledore without even talking to me, without giving me a chance to explain," Sirius said, his voice trembling. "I thought he knew me better than that."
"He's blinded by Dumbledore's words, Sirius," Remus replied, his voice filled with empathy. "But we know who you truly are, and that's what matters. We'll find a way to prove it to him, even if it takes time."
Sirius sniffed and wiped his tears away. "Thank you, Moony. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Remus offered him a small, sad smile. "You'll never have to find out, Padfoot. We've always been there for each other, and that won't change."
They continued walking through the snow covered landscape, putting distance between themselves and the shattered friendship behind them. Remus couldn't help but feel a mix of sadness and anger towards James, but he knew that dwelling on it wouldn't bring him any solace.
Remus silently vowed to himself that he would be there for Sirius, no matter what. They'd support each other as they always had. Especially now that it meant severing ties with the past and forging a new path.
Remus led Sirius away, leaving behind the echoes of a freshly broken friendship.
He decided to take him to his family's house nestled deep in the woods across the way. Sirius was in no condition to return home.
Remus knew his home would provide them with the privacy they needed to process their emotions.
"Let's get to my house, Sirius. It's just up ahead."
Sirius said nothing, but shook his head in understanding.
The house, surrounded by tall trees and enveloped in a sense of tranquility, stood waiting for them. It was a simple home out by the forest. Two stories, three bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a basement. The basement was specially made for Remus' transformations.
Upon entering, Remus and Sirius found themselves in a cozy living room adorned with photographs and books. Remus's parents were not home, which gave them the freedom to express their grief without restraint. They settled on the worn-out couch, their tears mingling with the weight of their recently broken friendship with James.
Remus' thoughts dwelled on. What of Peter? He didn't say anything in Sirius' defense, nor for the state of their friendship. Remus eventually decided to try to reach out to Peter after they returned to Hogwarts. Just so that he could say that he tried.
Ol' Major, Remus's loyal and affectionate terrier, approached them sensing their distress. He nuzzled against Sirius, his warm presence providing some solace amidst the turmoil. Sirius absentmindedly stroked the dog's fur, finding comfort in the unconditional love and companionship Ol' Major offered.
As the night wore on and their tears began to subside, Sirius felt a glimmer of nostalgia amidst their sadness. He wiped his eyes and let out a faint chuckle, reminiscing about happier times.
"Hey, Remus," Sirius began, his voice tinged with a bittersweet tone. "Do you remember the time James and I pulled that firecracker prank on those seventh-year students back when we were just second years?"
Remus's eyes sparkled with a flicker of amusement as he nodded. "How could I forget? That was quite the daring escapade." Sirius and James placed several firecrackers in the soles of the seventh-year shoes, and charmed them to keep popping off with every step they took.
Sirius grinned, his sadness momentarily replaced by the memory of their mischievous adventures. "We were so little and yet so determined to make a statement, weren't we?"
Remus chuckled softly. "Indeed, you two were quite the pair."
Sirius leaned back against the couch, his mind transported to that particular memory. "We had heard those seventh-years boasting about their magical prowess, acting all high and mighty. So, James and I decided it was time to bring them down a peg or two."
Remus's lips curled into a knowing smile as he settled into the storytelling. "You also cast a spell on their brooms during Quidditch practice, didn't you? I think I remember their shocked faces when their brooms started doing loops in the air."
Sirius nodded enthusiastically. "Exactly! We had tweaked the spell just enough to make their brooms perform some wild aerobatics. It was hilarious! They had no idea what hit them."
Remus laughed, a genuine warmth returning to his eyes. "And the best part was that they couldn't figure out who was responsible. You and James had managed to keep your identities hidden."
Sirius's grin widened. "We reveled in the chaos we created. Those seventh years were so baffled, looking around in confusion, trying to find the culprit. It was pure brilliance."
Remus playfully nudged Sirius's shoulder. "You were a mischievous duo, that's for sure. The Marauders were unstoppable back then."
Sirius's expression softened, his voice carrying a touch of nostalgia. "We were, and I believe we still are. No matter what James thinks or says, our bond remains unbreakable. We're the Marauders, through and through."
Remus nodded, but remained silent. His eyes reflected a mix of pride and sadness.
They sat in silence for a moment, basking in the shared memories and the strength of their friendship. Ol' Major wagged his tail, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, reminding them that the spirit of mischief and camaraderie still lived within them.
However, the weight of their broken friendship with James settled once again upon Sirius, he felt the tears welling up in his eyes. "But that's not the case anymore is it?"
The pain and sense of loss became overwhelming, threatening to consume him. Remus, ever attentive, noticed Sirius's anguish and immediately moved closer, wrapping an arm around him.
"It's okay, Sirius," Remus whispered soothingly, his voice filled with empathy. "Let it out. I'm here for you."
Sirius buried his face in his hands, his body trembling with sobs. Ol' Major, sensing his distress, nestled closer, his warm presence providing a comforting solace. Remus gently rubbed Sirius's back, offering him a steady anchor amidst the storm of emotions.
"It hurts so much," Sirius choked out between sobs.
Remus held him tighter, his own heart aching in response to Sirius' pain. "I know, Sirius. It's devastating. A betrayal usually is, but remember, we still have each other. Our friendship is strong, and we'll get through this together."
Sirius nodded, his tears staining his cheeks. "I just never thought he would turn his back on me. We were supposed to be brothers, to have each other's backs no matter what."
Remus's voice was filled with unwavering support. "You're not alone, Sirius. I'll always be here for you. We've been through so much together, and that won't change."
Ol' Major let out a sympathetic whine, as if he understood the depth of Sirius's pain. He gently nudged Sirius with his snout, his warm gaze filled with affection and understanding.
Sirius took a deep, shuddering breath, trying to regain some composure. "Thank you, Remus. Thank you for being here for me, for reminding me that I'm not alone."
Remus offered a tender smile, his voice filled with reassurance. "You're never alone, Sirius. We'll weather this storm together. Our bonds that we've forged will stand the test of time and go beyond what James believes."
They sat in that comforting embrace, sharing their pain and finding solace in their unwavering friendship. Ol' Major nestled in between Remus and Sirius.
Sirius' tears began to subside, leaving behind a sense of acceptance and determination. Sirius leaned into Remus's comforting embrace, his heart heavy but filled with a glimmer of hope.
Remus wouldn't let James' betrayal define their futures. The healing would begin now, and it would take time. They would have to lean on each other in these times and help each other.
The two slept in the living room with Ol' Major cuddled in-between them. As the morning sunlight filtered through the windows, casting a soft glow upon the room, Remus and Sirius gradually stirred from their slumber on the couch. Their eyes met, and for a moment, they exchanged a silent understanding of the pain that awaited them upon waking.
However, as Sirius fully awoke, his sadness began to transform into a burning anger. The sense of betrayal he had felt towards James had intensified, fueling the flames of his fury. He sat up abruptly, his jaw clenched and his hands tightly balled into fists.
"I can't believe he just tossed me aside like that," Sirius seethed, his voice laced with a mixture of hurt and rage. "After everything we've been through, after all the sacrifices I made for him, he treats me like I'm nothing!"
Remus yawned as he woke up. Sensing the anger radiating from his friend, moved closer and placed a hand on Sirius's shoulder. "I understand how you feel, Sirius. It's natural to be angry when someone you trusted betrays you."
Sirius's eyes blazed with intensity as he continued, his voice trembling with suppressed emotion. "But this isn't just any betrayal, Remus. We were brothers, closer than blood. We fought together, laughed together, and risked our lives for each other. And now, he's just willing to throw it all away because of some misguided notion planted in his mind by Dumbledore!"
Remus nodded in agreement, his own frustration simmering beneath the surface. "It's unfair and unjust, Sirius. You deserve better than this, Hell we both do."
Sirius's fists tightened even further, his voice edged with determination. "Well, I won't stand for it. I won't let James's actions destroy me any longer! It'll be difficult to forget what we once had, but that was then and this is now! He may have turned his back on us, but that doesn't mean we have to let his betrayal consume us."
Remus's gaze softened, his voice steady and supportive. "You're right, Sirius. We can't let anger and bitterness consume us. We have each other, and we'll forge our own path!"
Sirius took a deep breath, his anger gradually giving way to a resolute determination. "You're damn right, Remus. We'll show James that we're stronger than he thinks, that we don't need his approval or validation!"
As Remus and Sirius made their way to the kitchen, their steps heavy with a mix of determination and lingering sadness, the comforting scent of breakfast filled the air. They found Remus's parents, John and Amelia, already busy preparing a meal, their warm smiles welcoming them.
John looked a lot like Remus only with some silver foxish hair, some wrinkles, and no scars upon his face. "Good morning, boys," John greeted them, his eyes filled with concern as he noticed their somber expressions. "Is everything alright?"
Remus sighed, his voice tinged with a hint of sadness. "Not really, Dad. James... he broke off our friendship. It's over."
Amelia turned to face them, a mixture of sympathy and strength in her gaze, she had light brown hair with a few gray streaks in her hair, and a beauty mark under her lip. "Oh, Remus, Sirius, I'm so sorry to hear that. However, it doesn't surprise me. James always had a way of showing his true colors."
Sirius nodded, his voice filled with determination. "He turned his back on us, treated us like we meant nothing. We're better than that."
John paused his cooking, a serious expression on his face. "You're absolutely right, Sirius. Walking away from toxic friendships takes strength and courage. I commend you both for having the wisdom to do so."
"Well to be fair, I wasn't really okay with it at first,," Sirius admitted.
Amelia placed a comforting hand on Sirius's shoulder. "James may have been a bully, but you two have always shown kindness and loyalty. You deserve friends who value and appreciate you for who you are."
Remus's eyes shimmered with gratitude as he looked at his parents. "Thank you, Mum, Dad. It means a lot to hear your support."
John smiled, returning to his cooking. "Of course, son. We're always here for you. And remember, sometimes it's necessary to let go of those who don't bring out the best in us, even if they were once close friends."
Amelia chimed in, her voice filled with reassurance. "You're surrounded by people who love and cherish you two. You don't need James to validate your worth."
