Yeah I know, I should be updating Fox and his Miko. I'm extremely stuck on Chapter 9. However, though I'm not stuck on the story/direction/what I want. It's all planned. If any of you read it, and would like to help me get unstuck, PM me! You'll get credit. Seriously, four years is ridiculous...even for me.
I really want to write these two together, not enough Kagome/Naruto pairings. It's almost always Sasuke and Itachi. So I decided to try my hand at this idea I've had for a while. It's inspired by several stories I follow. Hopefully, it will also help me with my other Naru/Kag story.
I do not own Naruto or Inuyasha. Rights belong to their respective creators.
Set after Goshinki breaks the Tetssaiga.
Things were getting bad, very bad. The old flea demon thought to himself, his four arms crossed over his chest as he watched Totosai work on fixing the broken sword Tetsaiga. The newest of the ever-mounting problems.
The Shikon No Tama had been shattered throughout the land; Sesshomaru was missing an arm, an evil hanyou was amassing power and shards at an alarming rate, and his master Inuyasha's pack was outnumbered, young, and in Lady Kagome's case completely untrained. In short, they were woefully unprepared.
They needed more allies, which brought him back to the present moment. He let out a put-out sigh.
Something on your mind, Myoga? The elderly fire demon asked, without pausing the rhythmic tapping of his hammer against fang and steel.
"I think, it is time to bring him home."
There was a pause in the hammering; the only indication that Totosai had heard him.
"He will be drawn into it sooner or later, the shards are numerous and the enemy grows stronger, their reach ever farther. We could use his help. " Myoga continued.
There was a long pregnant pause before Totosai spoke.
"What would make you think he would ever come home? After what happened, I wouldn't blame him if he didn't."
There was a somber silence.
"He has honor, a sense of duty, and loyalty to his family. Despite everything, he will not see them hurt or abandon them in times of crisis. Though he has every right to throw them to the wolves, he will not."
The blacksmith remained quiet. Totosai truly doubted it. Any loyalty surely died decades ago. Why help those who refused to help you?
Myoga sighed again and jumped off his long time freinds shoulder. He had quite a long journey ahead.
Deep within the thick forests of Yakushima, an island off of Kyushu, Japan, the demon Myoga sought had made his home in isolation, surrounded by nature. It was humid and hot with a permanent green haze. Settled by the cool waters of the rivers.
The demon in question was crouched low to the ground, stalking a deer that had paused to drink from one of the rivers near his den. His claws dug into the soft earth. Blue eyes narrowed upon his prey - bluer than an ocean once warm and welcoming, now guarded and cold. Lined with purple markings, the only physical sign of his paternal side. The rest was all his mother.
He had pointed ears, and nine beautiful and yet deadly in their own right fox tails that swayed behind him, long spiky blonde hair that went to his shoulders, with tips dyed red. His clothing consisted of a layered kimono. The bottom layer, a nagajuban, was white in color. Only the collar was visible. The second layer, the kimono itself, was a dark Orange visible only at the collar and arms where the final layer's black haori had openings . A black hakama completed his attire. His outfit was finished off with a black obi with orange dye at the ends, a whirlpool mon on the sleeves and back of the Haori blood red in color, and two swords and their sheaths at his hip.
There was also a corded rope that was wrapped around his wrist three times; it was a pearlescent lavender color and, if one looked closely, they would see several strands of what appeared to be slightly bluish-black hair within the threads of the cord.
Just as the demon was about to pounce on his prey, he felt a sharp, painful bite upon his nose; a flea had bitten him and was sucking his blood. Anoyed, the demon smacked the old one in irritation.
The noise alerted his prey and it bolted away.
"Myoga." he growled irritation mounting.
"Why are you here? You have cost me dinner."
The old flea bowed repeatedly.
Forgive me, Naruto-sama. Please hear me out at least. I have traveled far. A Full fortnight with hardley any rest.
"Whatever it is, the answer is no," Naruto growled, his youki flashing in warning.
The flea gulped, Naruto would have felt bad if it wasn't the fact he knew whenever the pest showed himself, it was always bad news or he wanted somthing. Often both.
"Please Naruto-sama!"
"Fine, speak and make it quick I'm hungry."
"Of course, my lord!" The flea cleared his throat.
"As you know, the Shikon no Tama had been burned with its Miko guardian, the Lady Kikyou. The Jewel was thought to have been destroyed for good. However, several months ago, the Shikon no Tama reappeared. Not long after its emergence, it was accidentally shattered into hundreds of pieces across Japan. The mainland is now in chaos. A terrible Spider Demon is gathering the shards faster than Master Inuyasha and his pack can."
"On top of that, Master Sesshomaru made another attempt at getting his claws on Tetsaiga. He managed to find the tomb of your great and terrible father within the eye of the youngest brother. He was unable to pull it from its resting place."
The demon lord Naruto narrowed his eyes at the mention of his half brothers. A mixture of complex emotions swirled within his chest. He clentched his right hand so hard, his claws drew blood. Making him realize he missed part of the retainers story.
"...and then an incarnation of the spider hanyou Naraku named Goshinki broke the tetsaiga. Totosai is repairing the sword, however who knows when he will gain the ability to weild it properly. We need your help."
"Tell me Myoga..." Naruto spoke calmly, with a dark undertone.
The flea demon gulped and broke out in a sweat.
"Why should I lend my assistance? After they failed when I needed them most?"
"They are still your Family."
Naruto snorted derisively.
"My family is dead. Which I remind you was their fault ,Try again."
Myoga knew then Naruto was still angry at his half siblings. He would have to switch Tactics, and fast. The Eldest of Taishos sons had as short of a temper as the youngest.
"Then do it for the thousands of innocent lives, who knows what evil Naraku will unleash if he complets the jewel and makes a wish upon the tainted Shikon "
Naruto paused and twitched one of his ears back, contemplating.
Myoga decided to double down on The Lords sense of duty, and throw in more Loyalty. Since Family wasn't enough. As Totosai predicted.
"Do it for your people. Your General Kakashi has taken good care of things in your absence. The Village is thriving, but they have not yet recovered their Military might. If any shards are in the area and Naraku gains enough power to launch an assault. They will need you"
That caught his attention. Naruto growled at the thought of any harm coming to his people, and what remained of his precious ones. It would be a cold day in hell before he would let anything happen to them if he could help it.
Naruto had been contemplating returning home and to his duties. A hundred and fifty years was pushing it, he was sure if Myoga hadn't come seeking him out. If only to beg him to clean up yet another one of his brother's messes.
His General or worse, Tsunade, would have come and dragged him by his sensitive ears home. The fact they had not yet come was surprising. Then again, they understood more than anyone, but even they had limits to their patience and understanding.
Naruto estimated he had another decade before they would have enough.
Naruto took a deep breath and released it slowly.
"I will lend my assistance; I will make this clear. I am not doing this for my brother's sake. I am doing it for my people, and the thousands of lives at stake due to the machinations of, what's-his-name."
Myoga face planted. His master hadn't even been paying attention! The kits attention span was still abysmal.
"Naraku My Lord!"
"Yes, him. I also have some demands. Number one, you will tell me everything that has happened in the past century and a half on the mainland. Second, we are going to make a slight detour. No complaints. Third, I will not be taking orders. And fourth, one of the people I trust will be coming with me. This is non-negotiable. I do not know my brother's pack. Their skills or who they are. I will not feel comfortable unless I have one of my own at my side."
"You will also tell me all you know about them."
Myoga nodded and hopped on Narutos shoulder. Who started walking. They had a long journey ahead, and He had much to catch up on. Dinner temporarily forgotten.
"Shortly after your departure..." Myoga began in his "Sensei" voice.
Naruto immediately almost regretted his "everything" comment. This was going to be a special kind of torture. He was sure the old flea would enjoy every second of it.
Story Notes. No major spoilers. Just my thoughts on how I pictured the brothers' ages and how I took into account the slow aging process of demons.
Naruto: 603 equivalent of about twenty-five in appearance.
Shesshomaru: 518 around 19
Inuyasha: I always pictured him to be in his early two hundreds. human equivalent to sixteen. Ages slower than a human, but faster than a full blooded demon.
