A few days have passed and it was finally the weekend. The four dino thunder rangers ran out of the school in their glee.
"Finally freedom!" Cayleigh yelled to the sky. Her smile faded as Tommy had that look that told her he had a surprise. "Whatever you have to ask i am not doing it".
Tommy rolled his eyes as Kira joined them. "Kira tell him whatever he is about to ask of us i am not doing it". Cay pleaded with her friend hiding behind her"
"Cay you know its Reefside Day and Hayley was wondering if you could help her set up the Cyberspace?" Tommy finally said as he put on his jacket.
"Whats in it for me?" Cay asked raising an eyebrow poking his shoulder. "Plus what are you three doing to help?" She asked eyeing them.
"I am coaching a little soccer game for the kids" Conner replied tossing his little red soccer ball between his hands.
"I am performing later at the dance". Kira told her with a smile.
"I am working to help her out" Ethan piped up.
Cay turned back to face her brother. "Tommy you already signed me up for something didn't you?"
Tommy rubbed his eyes as she backed him up into his jeep. "You are running the canteen and if you do i will get you a smoothie every day this week"
"Okay" Cay replied simply. She closed her eyes as Kim greeted them and kissed Tommy on the lips. "Get a room you two." Cay didn't miss the odd look Kim gave her.
"Cay Ryan dropped off your cleats you ordered from the store in Mariner Bay earlier this morning. He is going to help us to". Tommy told her as she climbed into his jeep. "You know there is a door?"
"I do but this works to". She told him saying goodbye to her friends. She watched silently as Kim fingered the picture hanging from his mirror. It was a picture that was taken on her 16th birthday. It showed her in the middle of Tommy and Ryan, her arms around their necks as they kissed her cheeks. She hopped out as they pulled up to the house.
Kim looked confused as she noticed a scar on Cay's calf that she never saw before. "Tommy how did she get the burn?" Kim asked as she followed Tommy to the porch.
"She got it in Mariner Bay four years ago. Its how her and Ryan met actually. He was evil to and she got trapped in a building" Tommy answered. "Look ask her about it".
Kim nodded silently feeling anger rise. She walked over out of sight grabbing Ryan by the arm. She made sure no one was looking. "I knew there was something i didn't like about you"
Ryan looked at her in confusion. "Kim? what?"
"I know about how you hurt Cay" Kim spat.
"Hurt? Kim i would never hurt her" Ryan defended wondering where this was going.
"No then why did you trap her in a building! why does she have a huge burn scar on her leg!. I want you to leave. We have enough evil to deal with i don't need Mesogog finding out about your past to. I will not have you around Cay or anyone else".
Ryan bowed his head as he picked up his jacket. "Fine but you don't know the whole story either. You can hate me all you want but know this if it wasn't for Cayleigh i wouldn't be the person i am today" With that Ryan walked to his truck.
Cayleigh came out of the house and ran to say goodbye. She went to hug him but Ryan just patted her shoulder then drove away. "Ryan!". She looked behind her and met Tommy's gaze. "Tommy why did he leave?"
"I don't know, he told me he was going to stay and help us maybe he got a call". Tommy tried. Cayleigh frowned as she walked with her brother to his jeep. Ryan always gave her a hug everytime they parted ways.
"Guys we got trouble!" Conners voice came through Tommy's gem. "Get to the cyberspace now!".
"Let's go!" Tommy urged. Tommy sped to Hayley's. "Cay we can't morph in front of people do what you can to help"
Cay nodded and rushed inside to find Kira battling drones. "Kira!"
"Thank god your here" Kira rushed out in relief throwing a drone out the window. Cay smiled and kicked a drone over a table. Once the fight was over it went quiet. Cay turned as she heard Kira sniff. "Kira, hey what's wrong?" Cay asked sitting next to her on the floor. Tommy and Conner rushed in as Ethan came from the back.
"They destroyed it". Kira stuttered as she held her new guitar which was not broken in half. "My mom just got it for me as an early birthday gift".
"Oh Kira". Cay whispered giving her friend a hug. Cay helped her up and led her outside.
"Man this place is a mess". Ethan spoke looking around. "Hayley we will help you clean up"
"Thanks Ethan". Hayley replied as Kim joined her.
Outside Kira and Cayleigh sat on Tommy's hood of his jeep. Cay sighed in frustration This was the second time she had called Ryan and got voicemail. "Man answer your phone"
"Is everything okay?" Kira asked her.
"I don't know. Ryan was supposed to help us today but he left home abruptly without a word". Cayleigh answered as the others walked out. "Now he won't answer my calls"
"Its for the best". Kim spoke under her breath.
"Wait what did you say?" Cay asked Kim hopping off the hood. "Kim what did you do?"
Kim crossed her arms as everyone stared at her. "I told him i will not have him around you or any of the rangers. Cay he hurt you!"
Cay felt she was slapped in the face. She was giving Kim a chance. "Hurt me?! how dare you?" She took a step but Ethan grabbed her waist. "Ryan has never hurt me. You have no business in saying who is a part of my life or not!"
Tommy got in between the two girls and put his hands out. He could feel the anger coming from his sister.
"He hurt you Cayleigh i saw the scar!" Kim yelled back.
"The scar was my own fault not his! Yes he was there but he didn't mean to cause the building to explode!" Cay shouted back.
"ENOUGH!" Tommy yelled causing everyone to jump. "You. Jeep Now!" He ordered Cayleigh. "Kim go help Hayley".
"Oh and Cayleigh, the last time i checked Tommy is your brother not some outcast" Kim spat as she walked inside the damaged Cyberspace.
Cayleigh stomped back to Tommy's jeep and leaned against it. "How dare she".
"The guys are going to help Hayley clean up". Tommy informed her as he stood in front of her. "Cay go cool off"
"I never should have given her a second chance" She growled as she walked away from her brother.
Cay walked to the park. She just had to get away to clear her head. Cay knew she had to tell Kim the whole story. As she backed up she felt something grab her ankle and begin to wrap around her body. "What the?" She grumbled as wire secured her to the tree behind her. ""I guess i know why they wanted Kira's guitar". She mumbled as a monster in the shape of a yellow guitar and drones appeared.
"The names RockMeister and this is your last performance blue ranger" He giggled out. Cay pulled on the wires. She jumped as the monster strummed his guitar and a ring of flames surrounded her.
"Great". She mumbled as she began to sweat.
"Cayleigh!" She turned her head to the left to see someone running towards her. She smiled noticing Ethan. "Hang on!". He jumped in the air firing his blaster at the ugly monster then chut her wires. "You okay?"
"Yeah thanks Ethan". She told him with a smile. "Dino Thunder Power Up!"
"Tricera Shield!".
"Dimetro Staff!"
The two charged forward. Cay managed to land a kick but RockMeister pucnhed her sending her to the ground.
"Heres a tune you might like" He laughed as he strummed the guitar sending music notes. The two rangers yelled as the notes hit their bodies causing sparks.
"Okay i have had it". Ethan growled as he rolled on the ground. "Cay how about we take it up a notch?"
"Oh yeah! Super Dino Mode!" They roared as spikes appeared on their suits.
"Dimetro Slash!" Cay yelled as ran. She jumped twisting. She landed a slash causing an X to appear on the monster's chest. Ethan rolled on the ground shooting his blaster dead center causing the monster to explode.
"Good job Ethan" Cay praised giving him a high five.
"No problem. Hey look". He pointed to Kira's guitar. "Man its destroyed."
"Guys" Tommy's voice came through their gems. "Good job defeating the monster."
"Thanks Bro. Tommy has Ryan called?"
"No but they are responding to call downtown" He answered. Cay frowned.
"Listen i am going to head there and try and talk to him". Cay told her brother.
"Okay we will meet you there and be careful". He told her firmly.
Cay turned to Ethan. "Meet you later?". He nodded. Cay walked in the direction of where the fire was with a sense of dread. She knew Kim had no right to interfere. Once Cay got their she covered her mouth noticing one of the daycares were ablaze.
"Is everyone out?!" Carter Grayson yelled.
"Carter!" Cay heard Dana yell. "Carter where's my Dad?!"
Another fireman yelled a he ran over. "He's still inside! He thought he saw something or someone!". Cay felt fear wash over her. Cay ran behind the building. She noticed a window with smoke coming out. Cay climbed in only to be met with smoke. "William!." She yelled covering her mouth with her hand. The heat getting to her bare arms.
Captain William Mitchell groaned as a voice met his ears. "Here!" He choked trying to move wood off his back.
Cay followed the voice. "Oh no! Will!" She cried making her way. "I got you!".
"Cayleigh? is that you?" He choked out.
"Its me come on!" She yelled as they pushed the wood off his body. Her small frame helping the older man up. "Go!"
"No, i have to find it".
"Find what?"
"One of the little girls lost her bear, i managed to get her out but she wanted her toy". She managed between coughs. He pulled her close as glass shattered.
"Look you need to get out i will find the bear now please go!". She urged. Before he could protest she pushed him out of the open door just as it collapsed.
Outside Dana turned as her Father came crashing to the ground. Tommy and the others came to a stop. "Dad!" Dana cried as she ran over. Tommy and Ethan ran over to help him over to an ambulance. "Dad are you okay?"
He coughed as Dana gave him air. "I'm okay. But Dana there's someone inside. Cayleigh". That got Ryan and Tommy's attention. "She got me out but she's trapped". Ryan turned pushing past everyone and ran to the smoldering building.
"Hey stop!" A fireman yelled but Ryan ignored him as he kicked his way inside. Tommy and Conner went but were held back. "Stop you can't go in there!".
"But she's my sister!" Tommy protested. They all ducked for cover as the roof started to cave.
"Cay!" Kim cried.
Inside Cay fell to her knees as her throat began to burn. She finally crawled to where she saw the purple dinosaur laying under rubble. "Finally". Cay went to get up but yelled out in agony as a piece of the roof fell pinning her legs to the floor. "Help!". She groaned as she noticed blood running down her arm. She winced as she noticed a piece of wood sticking out of her arm.
Ryan kicked through the debris. "Cay! Cayleigh answer me!".
Cay's eyes grew heavy. She pressed her gem sending a signal."Help!" Ryan looked to his left as a blue light formed in front of him.
"Cay! hang on!" Ryan followed the light. His body was getting tired from the smoke and heat but he had to keep going. He came to a stop notcing her pinned to the floor. "Cayleigh!". Ryan gritted his teeth as he used both hands to lift the wood. He reached under her arms and pulled her from under it. "Deja vu huh?"
She smiled weakly through a fit of coughs. "Funny"
"Ryan we're trapped". She told him hugging into him. He could feel her shaking.
"No, i am getting you out of here!". Ryan looked around. "There!". He yelled pointing to a window. Ryan ripped off his jacket and slipped it over her body. "Cay cover your face". Ryan picked her up bridal style and she put her face into his chest. Ryan ran with her crashing through the window landing on a mattress.
"Ryan!" Dana yelled as they landed. "Thank God!". Ryan rolled away so Dana could check her. Dana went pale at the sight of her left shoulder. Cay's eyes were closed. "Ryan i am going to pull it out and as soon as i do put pressure on it". Dana asked of him as she put an oxygen mask over her face.
Everyone rushed over. "Cayleigh!". Tommy yelled as he knelt down. "Please Dana is she okay?"
Conner wrapped an arm around Kira as they watched their friend not moving.
"I think so but we need to get her Reefside General." Dana told them as they wheeled her to the ambulance. "You can all meet us there".
Ryan felt a hand on his arm and shared a glance with Kim. "Thank you". She mouthed as he hopped in.
Everyone gathered at the hospital awaiting news. They were there at least an hour.
"Cayleigh Oliver?" Doctor Jensen announced as he entered the waiting room.
"Please how is she?" Tommy was the first to ask.
"She's fine. The wood that was stuck hit the muscle in her shoulder which will heal. She did suffer from smoke inhalation but it will pass. I am keeping her overnight just to be sure her lungs clear and her cut on her shoulder doesn't show infection. She is one brave girl". He added as he left the room.
Everyone smiled in relief. Tommy turned to his students. "Look you all head home its late and you need the rest. I'll let you know how she is when she wakes up".
Once they left Tommy walked into his sister's hospital room. He saw her asleep. "I swear your going to have me grey before i am 30." He smiled when Kim handed him coffee.
They looked as Captain Mitchell walked into the room. Tommy shook his hand. "Tommy she is one heck of a girl. And you" He directed to Kim. "You should know better when it comes to not only ranger teams being close but also how rangers become family. That's right i know you see my son as a threat but i assure you Miss Hart that he loves that girl lying there. Maybe you should give him the time to explain what really happened four years ago".
Kim didn't know what to say. She felt like he was punishing her.
"Cayleigh has been like a second daughter to me and trust me it will stay that way". He told Kim as he left the room.
Kim stayed silent as Tommy sat in a chair next to his sister's head. "Kim he's right. Look i am not the one to share their story but what i will say is i know i am her big brother but she treats the Mitchells no different."
"I guess my judgement this time got me in trouble. Back when we were rangers and friends we all had someone to go to when times got tough. Finding out that Cay would turn to someone else in times of need hurt i guess. Then seeing the scar and hearing about how Ryan was evil i guessed pushed me over the edge".
Tommy stared at Cayleigh's face as fog appeared on the plasic with every breath she took. "Kim what Ryan did today should prove to you that he is not a threat. Ryan's evil was alot different then when i was evil."
Ryan took that moment to enter the room. Tommy thanked him and left the two of them alone. Ryan took the chair Tommy was using. Kim watched as Ryan took Cay's hand between his. "I was wrong Ryan and i'm sorry. Our past as rangers every evil we faced always brought out past back to haunt us".
Ryan kept his eyes on Cay. "Kim i understand i do. Look how about tomorrow you, Cay and I hang out and i will share our story."
Kim nodded. "Ryan thank you for what you did today. You didn't hesitate to run in after her"
"I would do it all over again. Look we are all exhausted right now lets get some rest". Ryan suggested as Kim agreed. Kim walked to the door. She smike glancing back as Ryan laid his head on the sleeping girl's shoulder. Kim walked out of the hospital and went home.
Later that night the only light in the room was from the mood. Cay slowly opened her eyes and looked around. She noticed two heads. One was Tommy's and the other was Ryan's. She looked to see Tommy's arm around her stomach.
She turned to look towards the window as the figure turned around. "Hello young lady".
Cay smiled at Captain Mitchell. He walked over placing one hand on his son's back and the other on her forehead. "Leave it". He ordered as she went to take the oxygen off. "Don't worry kiddo i'm fine thanks to you." He bent down and kissed her head. "Get some rest you need it". Cay slowly lifted her around wrapping each of them around the two men in her life. She felt her eyes close and sleep took over.
