Chapter 9
Alone
Lloyd groaned as his teacher handed out another assignment. Great. Homework. He snorted; he wasn't sure what purpose homework served at a school for "bad boys." If the teachers wanted them to learn how to be evil, they should let them steal candy or trip a few old ladies. But no - they were stuck in a musty, wooden classroom learning how to identify different types of toadstool. Gene chuckled.
"What's the matter, Lloyd? Don't know the difference between amanitas and chanterelles?" Lloyd rolled his eyes; that guy's voice could really get on his nerves.
"That, enough, Gene." Gene glared at their science teacher, Mr. Leach. For an evil scientist, he was definitely one of the nicer teachers at the school. Leach smiled as he handed Lloyd his homework. "Tell your dad I said hi." Lloyd looked at him, but said nothing as the man walked away. So that's why the geezer was being nice to him - he wanted to get in good with his dad. Lloyd grunted, annoyed; it's not like he could tell his dad anything, even if he wanted to. Leach would just have to get in line with the rest of the teachers and students who wanted Garmadon's attention.
The bell rang, signaling the end of the day... Freedom...
Brad clapped him on the shoulder.
"Hey, Lloyd! Wanna go catch earthworms together?"
"Nah, maybe some other time." Finn blocked his path, walking backwards as Lloyd made his way out of the classroom.
"Hey! Wanna go throw water balloons in the teachers' lounge?"
"No thanks."
Nate waved to him.
"Hey, Lloyd! Wanna-"
"No. Just leave me alone." His classmates muttered as he marched out the door. Everyone wanted to be his friend, but for all the wrong reasons. His heart felt that much heavier as he remembered that no one really cared - they only ever looked out for themselves. He couldn't blame them, he supposed. After all... isn't that what villains do? He glanced at the nearby trashcan. Looking at the homework in his hand, he shoved his hands in his pockets as the crumpled paper landed in the bin.
Author's Note:
Hey, guys! I wanted to make this chapter a glimpse into Lloyd's life at Darkely's, though I'll admit that I imagined this chapter being longer. I also wanted to give a shout-out to my little brother - it was his idea for Lloyd to throw his homework away. Anyway, I hope you liked this small chapter, and I hope to come up with more ideas soon. Goodnight, and God bless!
