Battle with the Pope

The Pope's amused smile remained as he looked at the heroes. "I must say, I'm quite surprised," he remarked, his clapping coming to a halt. "You took the full force of Judgement, an extremely powerful group ritual, and yet you are still standing."

"Biscas T. Balmus," the Dragonoid spat with contempt. "The Pope of the Three Heroes Church."

"I'd expect nothing less from the Cardinal Heroes," the Pope said, his unnerving smile still in place. "And while I am pleased that you remember me, Magic Hero, I'm afraid you and your party have committed sins against God and his children."

"They had it coming!" Balthasar shouted at the Pope. "And if I had to do it again, I would, you fucker!"

The Pope began to address the infamous Balthasar Black and the notorious Naofumi Iwatani, his followers slowly closing in behind him. "The Magic Demon and the Devil of the Shield," he said, his eyes first fixed on Naofumi, then on Balthasar. "The two of you have committed countless sins."

From atop the crater, the Pope delivered his accusations towards Naofumi, his voice dripping with disdain as he spoke of the Holy water bestowed upon The Shield Hero by God, only to be met with ingratitude and deception that led the people astray from their one true Lord. His attention then shifted to the Magic Hero, his tone becoming even more menacing. "And as for the Magic Demon, not only has this monster invaded the church on numerous occasions, but he has also left a trail of bloodshed in his wake, including the lives of several members of the Church and countless nobles."

The Pope's followers closed in, their faces contorted with hatred and disgust towards the accused. Meanwhile, the Dragonoid, who had been silent up until this point, could no longer contain his anger. "Innocent people were enslaved and harmed!" he roared.

With the speed of lightning, the Dragonoid unleashed a powerful fire spell at the Pope, hoping to strike him down for his crimes.

The Magic Hero's attack was met with a formidable yellow barrier that shielded the Pope from harm. Undaunted, the Pope extended his arms in a commanding gesture, speaking with a voice that echoed with authority, "Your sins will not go unpunished. In the name of the Almighty God, I will purify you, and your evil deeds shall no longer plague this land."

Princess Myne advanced, her eyes blazing with fury. "Pope Balmus, how dare you!" she exclaimed, her voice ringing with indignation. "Do you even understand what you've just done? You nearly killed the future queen and the Spear Hero with your reckless attack!"

The Dragonoid's anger flared at Myne's words, causing his draconic traits to become more pronounced. "Silence, you arrogant child!" he seethed, seizing her and violently pulling her to the ground. "The world would be a much better place without your presence contaminating it."

"I couldn't agree more, Magic Demon," the Pope replied, the corners of his lips curling into a malevolent smile. "The Devil of the Shield and his Magic Demon murdered the Spear Hero and the Princess," he declared, his eyes scanning all three heroes. "And that is the story that will be etched into the annals of history."

Gray muttered under his breath, "This man is insane," while Motoyasu turned to the Princess, perplexed. "What is he talking about?" he asked. However, before she could respond, the Magic Hero interjected.

"The situation is dire!" The Dragonoid bellowed, his frustration palpable. "The Holy Fucker up there is planning to kill us and blame our deaths on me and Naofumi," he warned, his tone grave. "Got it? Good. Now, drink these," he added, tossing the Spear Hero and his entourage mana and health replenishment potions.

"As those marked for death succumb to God's purification," the Pope chuckled, his arms dropping to his sides. "The world will be set right," Biscas T. Balmus said, gazing upward as if seeking divine approval. "Everything will align with God's plan."

Melty, the younger Princess, interjected, "Your logic is twisted, reminding me of someone."

Pope Balmus turned to Melty and reassured her, "If you and your sister perish today, you have nothing to worry about. We will establish a new form of government to take the royal family's place."

Malte gasped in shock and anger. "How dare you! This country has always been ruled by royalty!"

"And look where that has led us," muttered the Dragonoid under his breath.

"The royal family has abused their power and disrespected the Church for too long," the Pope responded, his tone stern. "We do not tolerate such blasphemy."

The Pope cast a disdainful glance at the group below him, regarding them as insignificant insects. "Royalty?" he scoffed with derision. "You are nothing but a pestilence." His attention then shifted to the Cardinal Heroes. "And as for you so-called Heroes, you are no better."

The Dragonoid couldn't help but growl in response to the Pope's pompous speech, which only seemed to fuel his already inflated ego.

"We venerate those who combat the Wave and safeguard the innocent," the Pope continued, his anger visibly mounting. "But this group has inflicted more harm than good."

"You're mistaken!" Motoyasu retorted in frustration.

"Am I?" The Pope countered, a sly smile curling at the corners of his mouth. "The Spear Hero unleashed a sealed monster, nearly decimating an entire village. The Sword Hero caused an epidemic that resulted in countless fatalities. And the Bow Hero shirked his duties and served only his own interests."

Motoyasu fell to his knees, desperately pleading, "We were only trying to help. Ren and Itsuki had the same intentions."

"Heroes who bring chaos to the world are no better than impostors," the Pope declared, adjusting his glasses with a weary sigh. "Your arrogance and recklessness mirror those of the heroes who meddled in affairs that were better left untouched."

Naofumi's fists tightened with rage. "You're talking about Ren and Itsuki," he interjected. "What have you done to them?"

"Their actions enraged the Almighty God, and as a consequence, I was compelled to bring down judgment upon them," Pope Balmus explained, his words stirring fury in the three heroes. "But do not fret, I shall soon send you and your monster companions to join them."

"You Bastard!" Balthasar snarled, his scepter crackling with the raw energy of lightning magic. "I shall cast you into the fiery bowels of the fearsome Drakonos Inferno!"

'Spear of the Thunder God'

A blinding flash of light erupted as a four-foot-long blade composed entirely of lightning materialized from the glistening jewel on The Dragonoid's scepter. This was a spell that he rarely employed for close-quarters combat. With a deft flick of his wrist, he activated his 'Force of Nature' skill, causing a towering pillar of rock to erupt from beneath him, propelling him towards the Pope with his Spear/Scepter poised to strike. Though he smashed through two of the three barriers, Balthasar was unable to land a blow on the Pope, whose defenses proved too formidable.

Pope Balmus chuckled at the Hero's futile attempts to breach his defenses. "As amusing as this spectacle is, I believe it's time to put an end to you, false heroes."

One of the Pope's loyal disciples approached him from behind, presenting him with a magnificent golden sword. Gripping the hilt with both hands, the Pope swung the weapon with a fierce determination, unleashing a devastating wave of energy that surged towards Balthasar. Despite his valiant efforts to block the attack, the sheer force of the blow sent him hurtling backward.

"Master!" Emiko cried out in alarm, rushing to the fallen hero's side with a look of genuine concern etched on her face.

"What manner of weapon is this?" Balthasar bellowed as he struggled to regain his footing.

"Now, it is time for you, false heroes, to be purified by Holy Judgment," declared the Pope, raising the weapon high as it began to radiate with a blinding light. "Only then will our country be granted true justice and order."

Exuding unparalleled confidence, the Pope prepared to deliver the final, decisive blow. "You guys need to be careful!" Melty's voice rang out, her expression wrought with worry. "That weapon is nothing but bad news!"

As the Pope aimed his weapon toward the group of heroes and their allies, Naofumi sprang into action, positioning himself bravely in front of them to shield them from certain doom. Nonetheless, the explosive force of the blast proved to be too much for him to bear, causing his sturdy armor to crack and shatter under the sheer pressure. Gritting his teeth in agony, Naofumi could only watch helplessly as his health bar rapidly dwindled, until he suddenly noticed a green shield icon appear beside it.

It was the mighty 'Shield of Aegis.'

Just as all hope seemed lost, Naofumi's gaze fell upon the Dragonoid who was casting a powerful buff spell upon him. This top-tier spell bolstered his defense by an astonishing factor of ten for a full minute, enabling him to withstand the full brunt of the Pope's attack. "Thanks, Balthasar," Naofumi spoke with genuine gratitude, as the Magic Hero energetically downed another MP potion to replenish his strength.

"Don't mention it, Naofumi," The Dragonoid replied, casually tossing the empty bottle aside.

"You are more resilient than I had anticipated, for a Devil," the Pope remarked with a tinge of begrudging admiration as his attack dissipated. But his tone quickly turned ominous. "However, the time for games is over." With a menacing glow, the weapon in his hand transformed into a gleaming golden spear. "I shall relish enacting God's divine judgment upon each and every one of you."

Gray's mouth hung agape in disbelief. "Did his sword just morph into a spear?"

Melty's face contorted with fear, etching lines of terror on her delicate features. She whispered in a hushed tone, "It's real. It's the Replica."

Lillian turned to Melty, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What is the Replica, Princess?"

Melty's voice trembled as she spoke. "It's a weapon that can replicate and transform into the Cardinal weapons," she explained shakily.

"A Replica?" Raphtalia echoed, staring at the weapon in disbelief. "But how is that even possible?"

Melty turned to the Heroes, her expression grave. "Long ago, someone attempted to duplicate the four Cardinal weapons for their own personal gain," she explained. "Their aim was to create the ultimate weapon that could transform between the legendary weapons and harness the skills of each."

The Dragonoid snorted in derision. "And I'm willing to bet that this asshole will only use the sword, bow, and spear forms," he remarked sarcastically.

Balthasar raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the discussion. "I've heard rumors that the weapon was nothing more than a myth," he interjected.

Naofumi's eyes blazed with anger as he glared at the Pope. "Well, it's not a myth now. But if he possesses such a powerful weapon, why did he summon us to this world?"

The Dragonoid added his insight, "A weapon of that magnitude would require an enormous amount of power to wield."

Naofumi turned to Balthasar, his tone serious. "Balthasar, how much do you want to bet that the church itself created this weapon?"

Balthasar's eyes narrowed with suspicion, his voice tinged with dark thoughts. "I wouldn't be surprised if the church was behind this," he replied.

Naofumi's expression turned grim as he spoke. "The Pope commands a vast number of followers and unlimited access to mana to fuel that weapon and maintain the barrier magic. But the question is, how do we stop him?"

The Dragonoid snorted in annoyance. "We can't just charge in blindly and hope for the best," he said, his tone laced with irritation. "We need a plan."

Raphtalia nodded in agreement. "We need to gather more information and assess our strengths and weaknesses before we make a move," she suggested.

"Agreed," Naofumi said, his expression hardening with determination. "We need to be strategic and work together if we want to stand any chance of stopping the Pope and his Replica weapon."

The Pope sneered at Melty, his condescension is evident in his words. "I'm impressed that you know of this weapon, Princess," he said, plunging the blade into the ground. "But I shouldn't be surprised, considering your conniving sister was too busy with her foolish conspiracies."

Balthasar groaned loudly, unable to restrain his irritation. "Oh, for heaven's sake, just shut up already," he muttered. "I'd take the bitch's shrill voice over your condescending monologue any day."

"If you wanted a swift death, all you had to do was ask," the Pope taunted, plucking the weapon from the ground as it began to glow once again. "It's time to finish the holy crusade for the God of the ages."

Gray's expression turned to one of worry and concern. "This won't be an easy fight, will it?" he asked, his voice laced with apprehension.

"I'm afraid not," The Dragonoid replied, beginning to cast support magic to bolster the Heroes' defenses.

As the green glow emanated from their bodies, everyone turned to the Magic Hero inquisitively. "What was that?" Motoyasu questioned his grip tight on his spear.

Balthasar interjected reassuringly, "Relax, numbnuts. It's a simple defense buff that doubles your defense stat for the next hour."

Myne's eyes widened with a glimmer of hope as she turned to the Magic Hero. "Since you are a master of magic, couldn't you simply put the pope's followers to sleep?" she suggested.

The Magic Hero's piercing gaze fell upon the Pope and his weapon, glowing ominously. "It wouldn't work," he explained. "Their immense mana pool would make them almost impervious to such spells."

Motoyasu's rage reached a boiling point, the fire in his eyes burning brightly as he pointed his spear with accusatory force toward the Pope. His voice thundered through the air, echoing with the weight of his fury.

"I will no longer tolerate this manipulation!" he bellowed. "You use us for your own selfish schemes and then discard us like mere pawns!"

But despite the Spear Hero's impassioned speech, the Pope remained unmoved. Balthasar could barely contain his frustration, his patience worn thin by the rambling of a poorly dressed fool. Without warning, he lifted his scepter, and with a violent motion, slammed the jewel into Motoyasu's head.

"Enough talk!" he commanded. "It's time to fight!"

Motoyasu rubbed his head in confusion, his anger momentarily subsiding. But as he looked up, the determination in his eyes reignited. With a fierce roar, he pointed his weapon toward the Pope.

"Lightning Spear!" he shouted, unleashing a powerful bolt of lightning from the tip of his spear. But his attack was met with a powerful yellow barrier, blocking his path and leaving him dismayed.

Balthasar's eyes narrowed as he analyzed the situation, his mind racing with possible solutions. The Pope's chuckles only fueled his determination.

"Hmm," he grunted, observing the impenetrable barrier that surrounded their enemy. "This barrier seems impervious to both physical and magical attacks."

But Lillian, ever the quick thinker, stepped forward with a glint in her eye. "What if we take down the followers first?" she suggested.

Naofumi nodded in agreement, turning to the Spear Hero with a grim expression. "Motoyasu, we need to weaken his mana supply. Can you do it?"

Motoyasu hesitated for a moment, his resolve wavering. But then, with a deep breath, he nodded. "I can't do this alone," he admitted. "Just this once, I'll join forces with you two."

A sense of camaraderie filled the air as the three heroes joined forces, united in their goal to take down the Pope and his followers. Motoyasu and Naofumi would distract the Pope while Lillian and Balthasar took care of the rest.

The Dragonoid's touch sent a jolt of electricity through Motoyasu's veins, filling him with a newfound strength and power. "You might need a little pick-me-up," he said, his voice brimming with confidence.

Balthasar stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with determination. "It's a speed and attack buff," he explained, removing his hand from Motoyasu's shoulder. "It'll quadruple your strength and agility stats for the next thirty minutes."

Motoyasu nodded in gratitude, quickly changing his spear in preparation for what was to come. Emiko and Filo transformed into their animal forms, ready to join the fray.

The Spear Hero's party launched a barrage of spells at the Pope, their attacks hitting him with deadly accuracy. But the princess continued with her pretentious incantation, unfazed by the assault.

'This changes nothing,' Balthasar thought to himself as he mounted Emiko. 'You will pay for your crimes once this is over.'

The tension in the air was palpable as the heroes charged forward, their determination unwavering. With each passing moment, the battle grew more intense, the clash of weapons and spells filling the air. But the heroes were undeterred, their eyes fixed firmly on their goal.

Their resolve was unshaken, the heroes fought on with a fierce determination. Motoyasu unleashed his most powerful combo skill, the 'Burst Flare Lance', creating a blinding explosion that obscured the pope's vision. Meanwhile, Naofumi and Balthasar raced after the pope's followers, determined to take them out once and for all.

But Balthasar's luck ran out when he was struck by a golden arrow, the sharp tip piercing his shoulder and sending him tumbling off Emiko's back. As the smoke cleared, the pope revealed himself, wielding a golden bow and firing another arrow at Naofumi. But thanks to Filo's quick reflexes, the Shield Hero was able to dodge the attack.

"The whole lot of you are a disgrace," Pope Balmus laughed, his voice dripping with contempt as he shifted his weapon back to a spear. "As if I would allow you unholy dogs to get close to my disciples."

Emiko's urgent cry echoed through the air as she sprinted after the Dragonoid, her fear for her master driving her forward. With a fierce glare, she fixed her gaze on the pope, her voice trembling with fear and desperation. "Please, don't hurt my master!" cried out the Kitsune,

But the Pope's response was nothing short of merciless, his eyes flashing with a fanatical zeal. "A beast dares to talk back to the Apostle of God," he snarled, his tone dripping with contempt. "Monsters like yourself belong in hell."

Gray and Lily exchanged a horrified glance, their hearts pounding with dread. Emiko's life hung in the balance, and they were powerless to save her.

Without a moment's hesitation, the Pope unleashed a merciless blast toward the helpless child. The force of the attack was deafening, shattering the air and sending shockwaves rippling through the area. The ground shook violently, and clouds of dust and debris billowed up into the air, obscuring the horror that was unfolding.

Gray and Lily watched in terror as Emiko was engulfed in the blast. "EMIKO!" they screamed, the sound of their anguish lost in the roar of the explosion.

But Naofumi's shield began to glow with an ominous crimson light, reflecting his rage at the heinous act he had just witnessed. Filo and the others joined him, their eyes blazing with wrathful fury.

Motoyasu's voice echoed with righteous fury, his entire being trembling with anger. The jewel in his spear pulsed with an ominous red glow, casting an eerie light on his face. "How dare you!" he roared, his words ringing out like a battle cry. "How could you willingly murder a child in cold blood? Your actions are unforgivable!"

But the Pope's response was nothing but a cold, cruel laugh. The sound only served to fuel the Heroes' fury, and their eyes blazed with a fierce determination to make him pay for his heinous act.

Gray and Lilian, tears streaming down their faces, glared at the Pope with a murderous intent that made even the most hardened warrior shudder. They gripped their weapons tightly, their knuckles turning white with the force of their grip.

"You're dead!" the Panda Demi-human snarled, rushing forward with reckless abandon.

"I'm going to make you suffer!" Gray bellowed, his voice carrying the weight of a thousand battle cries.

"Lily! Gray!" Naofumi called out, his voice urgent. "Don't rush in! We need a plan!"

But the Heroes were beyond reason, their rage consuming them like an inferno. They charged forward, their weapons raised high, ready to mete out justice to the Pope with their own hands. The battle had begun, and there was no turning back.

'Hundred Swords!'
'Meteor Shot!'

The Pope's mouth hung open in disbelief as he stared at the shattered barrier before him, unable to comprehend how it had been breached so easily. But his shock was short-lived, as an arrow pierced his flesh and a sword sliced through his robes, leaving him wounded and helpless.

He fell to his knees, his body wracked with pain until one of his disciples rushed forward and used healing magic to mend his injury. Meanwhile, he glowered at the Sword and Bow Heroes who had dropped into the crater with a fierce determination in their eyes.

Pope Balmus growled as he pushed away the disciple's helping hand. "How could they still be alive?" he snarled, his voice dripping with venom.

But his surprise turned to fury as Motoyasu and his comrades joined the fray, their weapons raised high. "Ren?! Itsuki?!" Motoyasu exclaimed, his voice filled with both shock and relief. "You're not dead?!"

"Don't go killing us off, Motoyasu," Ren said coolly, his eyes fixed on the Pope.

Itsuki nodded in agreement, turning to the other heroes with a determined look on his face. "We followed a clue that Naofumi gave us," he explained, his voice ringing out with a steely resolve. "And now, we're here to finish what we started."

As the Bow Hero recounted his harrowing tale of survival, the Pope's expression twisted into a mask of fury. With a sharp turn, he fixed his disciples with a withering glare and barked out his command. "Half of our mages must devote their mana to maintain the barrier!"

One of the disciples dared to voice a concern. "But Your Holiness, this will result in a slower mana charge for the weapon."

The Pope's grip on his weapon tightened, his knuckles turning white. "It matters not," he declared with a steely resolve. "This will give the false heroes ample time to contemplate the magnitude of their sins."

As the heroes rushed forward to engage, Itsuki drew back the string of his bow and unleashed a flurry of arrows. But to his shock, the strengthened barrier effortlessly deflected every single one.

Naofumi's sharp eyes caught the change immediately. "They've increased the power of the barrier," he growled, a note of concern creeping into his voice.

The Sword Hero cursed under his breath as his sword glinted menacingly in the dim light. "Damn it," he growled, his grip tightening on the hilt. "They healed the wound I gave him."

Motoyasu was still reeling from the shock of The pope's deception. "I can't believe I fell for it," he muttered, berating himself for his mistake.

Itsuki stepped forward, bow at the ready. "Don't blame yourself, Motoyasu," he said sternly. "He had us all fooled."

Ren's eyes blazed with fury as he shifted his weight, ready for battle. "And he will pay for his treachery."

Naofumi's voice was grim as he spoke. "I hate to admit it, but I don't think the four of us can take him down."

Suddenly, a low growl echoed through the air, drawing everyone's attention to the billowing cloud of dust that had been kicked up when the Pope killed Balthasar and Emiko. The tension was palpable as they waited for the dust to settle, their hearts heavy with grief and anger.

But then, a glimmer of hope appeared - three crosses, bathed in divine light, materialized in the air. The heroes exchanged a glance, their spirits lifting at the sight of this miraculous sign.

The words that escaped Balthasar's lips were barely a whisper, but they carried the weight of a thousand curses. "You... bastard," he hissed, his voice dripping with venom.

The scene that unfolded before them was nothing short of a shock. Debris littered the ground, and Balthasar stood protectively over Emiko, his shattered armor exposing his bleeding back. The Dragonoid rose to his feet, his eyes blazing with a fierce and wrathful gaze fixed on his enemy.

Lily watched in confusion as she beheld the three glowing crosses on Balthasar's back, she could have sworn he had four crosses on his back. "You manipulate, enslave, and slaughter all in the name of your pathetic god," Balthasar growled, his scepter beginning to glow with an otherworldly light. "In the name of the great Dragon Lord..." As he spoke, his weapon began to shift and transform, taking on the form of the Sword of Wrath. "I will purge you from this world and the next."

As the Dragonoid's weapon underwent its transformation, the very air crackled with a surge of otherworldly energy. The onlooking heroes stood in awe as obsidian scales gradually encased his entire form, from head to toe. From his lower back, a long and formidable tail emerged, while two ebony horns sprouted from his head, amplifying his already intimidating presence. Undergoing a dramatic metamorphosis, his legs underwent a profound change, assuming the powerful hind limbs reminiscent of a werewolf, yet infused with distinctive dragon essence. The transformation tore his pants, leaving them in tatters, revealing shorts that now adorned his lower body. With fangs bared and his eyes ablaze with crimson dragonfire, the Magic Hero turned resolutely to face his adversaries. Empowered by his newly transformed legs, he embodied unrivaled agility and strength, poised to vanquish his foes with an awe-inspiring display of prowess.

"I shall unleash upon you the fury of the Dragon Descendant!" Balthasar's voice thundered forth, resonating with a primal rage that reverberated through the earth's core. "Behold, mortals, and tremble before the inferno that awaits you! Prepare to witness the depths of hell itself!"

The Pope scoffed at the Dragonoid's bravado, confident in his own power and superiority. But his arrogance was short-lived as he beheld the full extent of Balthasar's transformation. As his eyes widened in fear, he realized the true power of his opponent. The mere thought of facing such a monstrous creature sent shivers down his spine, and he knew that he was in grave danger.

The very fabric of reality seemed to warp and twist as Balthasar charged forward, his sword held high. The ground shook with each thunderous step he took, and the air crackled with raw, unbridled energy as he clashed with his enemy. The clash of steel and the roar of magic filled the air, each blow striking with the force of a thunderbolt.

But Balthasar was undeterred. He fought with the ferocity of a dragon, his fury and determination driving him forward even as his opponent's defenses held strong.

The pope grinned wickedly as he watched the Dragonoid's attacks barely make a dent in his barrier. "My barrier will stop any attack," he growled triumphantly.

With a fierce swing of his weapon, the Pope landed a devastating blow on the Dragonoid, sending him hurtling back into the nearby crater. Balthasar felt the searing pain, but he refused to let it weaken his resolve. With a mighty roar, he rose from the rubble, his body still crackling with the raw power of his magic. Though battered and bruised, he stood tall and proud, ready to face his opponent once more.

"Balthasar we have to fight the Pope and his followers," Naofumi said earning a glare from the dragon descendant.

Naofumi's words hung heavy in the air as he addressed Balthasar, the tension between them palpable. The Dragonoid's response was a low growl, his eyes narrowed in fierce determination as he lifted his sword.

Without warning, the Magic Hero knelt down and placed a hand on the ground, activating his 'Force of Nature' skill. The other heroes gasped in shock as the ground beneath their feet rose, slowly lifting them out of the crater until it was no longer visible. The Dragonoid cracked his scaled neck, his body vibrating with raw, primal energy.

"He no longer has the high ground," he declared, his voice echoing with a fierce and unyielding power. "You lot take care of the Pope," the Magic Hero commanded, his form beginning to fade from view. "I'll handle the followers."

"Brother, wait, don't..." Gray tried to stop Balthasar, but he vanished from sight before anyone could say anything else. His voice echoed in their minds, a haunting reminder of the task ahead. "Keep Emiko safe," he warned. "Or there'll be hell to pay."

The other heroes exchanged worried glances, unsure of what to expect from their Dragonoid ally. "Does he really think he can take on that many by himself?" Itsuki asked, pulling the string on his bow with fierce determination. The air crackled with tension as they prepared to face their foes, each of them steeling themselves for the battle ahead.

Lily's words rang out with a steely determination, her voice cutting through the tense silence. She stood tall and resolute, a beacon of hope for the other heroes. "Trust the Magic Hero," she said, standing next to the Sword Hero. "Trust the Savior of the Demi-Humans."

Gray stepped forward, his eyes blazing with an unbridled passion. "Despite any doubts you may have about him," he interjected, placing himself between the Spear and Bow Heroes, "have faith that he'll take care of the followers."

Emiko, transforming into her Fox form, added her own words of encouragement. "Master can handle himself," she said with a fierce determination. "Let's focus on the task at hand and take down the pope!" The four heroes, in unison, replied with a resounding "Right!" and charged toward Pope Balmus.

But the pope was not so easily defeated. He shouted, "You will never lay a finger on the Apostle of God!" as he erected numerous barriers between himself and the heroes. The air crackled with raw energy as the heroes launched a barrage of attacks, their weapons striking the barriers with a deafening force. But the barriers held strong, their divine power seemingly unbreakable.

Undeterred, the heroes continued to push forward, unleashing their most powerful skills in a desperate attempt to break through the pope's defenses. The battle raged on with an intensity that shook the very foundations of the earth, each blow striking with the force of a thunderbolt. And yet, despite their best efforts, the pope remained unscathed, his barriers holding strong against their onslaught.

As the devoted followers continued to pour their life force into the Pope, an unseen adversary materialized before them. The Dragonoid, a formidable and cunning foe, swiftly dispelled his Mirage spell and unleashed a superior incantation: the Black Lightning Cage.

With a grandiose gesture, he hurled a magical orb into the air, which detonated with a thunderous blast, encasing each worshipper in a deadly web of crackling black electricity.

"Your only hope for survival," The Dragon Descendent declared, drawing his gleaming sword, "is to halt the flow of your mana this instant."

A wicked smile crept across the Magic Hero's face as he observed several of the faithful rises and unsheathe their weapons. Yet, only three of them had the courage to charge towards him. One on the left brandished a serrated dagger, the second in the middle wielded a gleaming sword, and the third on the right clutched a menacing hatchet, poised for the kill.

Undaunted by the trio of attackers, Balthasar hoisted his massive sword and wielded it as an impromptu shield. The church members' weapons clanged against the wrath blade, sending a jarring shockwave coursing through the Magic Hero's body. Though momentarily stunned, he swiftly regained his bearings and shoved the assailants away before launching a ferocious counterstrike. With a sweeping arc of his blade, he dispatched all three men with effortless precision.

Despite his victory, the Magic Hero couldn't suppress a pained grunt as he surveyed three fresh lacerations carved into his scaled chest. The remaining followers quailed and retreated, save for one burly figure who strode forward and flung off his hood and shawl, revealing his true identity.

The Dragonoid warily regarded the man. Unlike the other church members, this newcomer exuded the air of a seasoned and honed warrior.

"Stay back," the man sneered, brandishing a morning star club that glimmered with deadly intent. Balthasar could sense the challenge radiating from his opponent's steely gaze.

The man confronting the Dragonoid was youthful, with a strikingly chiseled physique and a commanding stature that towered over the Magic Hero. His unkempt, layered locks cascaded down his shoulders in a wild tangle of black and dark brown, with a sweep of left-side bangs framing his fierce, fiery red eyes.

Draped in a bold red and white robe adorned with the same emblem as the mysterious parchment that had struck the wagon, the man exuded an air of indomitable power.

The man's lithe form was encased in lightweight armor that covered his arms, shoulders, and thighs, with a supple leather holster slung across his back for his lethal Morningstar. He wore sturdy canvas breeches and a thick leather belt adorned with a formidable rosary cross, a symbol of the Three Heroes Church.

"That emblem..." Balthasar growled, plunging his sword into the ground. "Who are you?"

"I am Dante Aligory of the Serpent Blades," the man proclaimed, mimicking Balthasar's gesture and slamming his weapon into the ground. "But it matters little, for you shall soon meet your end, Dragon."

"We shall see," the Dragonoid countered, his fingers clenching tightly around the hilt of his Sword of Wrath.

The two warriors locked eyes, poised for combat. In a sudden surge, the Mace user lunged forward, wielding his massive weapon with savage force. Balthasar reacted with lightning-fast reflexes, parrying the strike with his sword and deftly evading the spiked head with a nimble sidestep. Despite his skill, the Hero couldn't suppress a grimace of pain as the impact jolted through his scaled arms.

Undaunted, the Dragonoid refused to back down and launched a fierce counterattack, aiming straight for Dente's vulnerable chest. But the mace-wielding warrior was quick on his feet, deftly dodging the attack and retaliating with a crushing blow aimed at the Magic Hero's head. With lightning reflexes, the hero managed to evade the devastating strike, narrowly escaping certain doom. In a swift motion, the Magic Hero unleashed a fierce swing, aimed with deadly precision at Dante's abdomen. Though Dante managed to block the attack with his cumbersome weapon, the sheer force of the blow sent him staggering backward.

With his adversary off balance, Balthasar seized the opportunity and unleashed a ferocious assault, unleashing a lightning-fast flurry of slashes toward his Serpent Blade foe. Despite Dante's valiant efforts to parry the blows with his weighty weapon, he struggled to match the Cardinal Hero's lightning-fast speed and agility. The intense exchange of blows was a sight to behold, as the two heroes clashed with all their might, each determined to emerge victorious.

With a desperate move, Dante swung his weapon in a wide arc, hoping to catch Balthasar off guard. The calculated move proved successful, as the weighty mace struck the hero's leg with a swift, crushing blow. Balthasar let out a pained grunt as his leg buckled beneath him, causing him to stumble backward, his defenses momentarily shattered.

Seizing the opportunity, Dante unleashed a relentless assault, charging forward with lightning-fast movements and landing a forceful blow on The Dragonoid's arm. Despite gritting his teeth and attempting to retaliate with his sword, the Magic Hero was outmatched by Dante's mastery of the Serpent Blade. With surgical precision, Dante unleashed a flurry of strikes, targeting Balthasar's vulnerable spots and driving him back with each ferocious blow.

The Dragon Descendant's attempts to counterattack were valiant but in vain, as Dante's speed and expertise rendered him nearly invincible. The battle raged on, with the two heroes locked in a deadly dance, their weapons clashing with thunderous force. But in the end, it was Dante who emerged victorious, his final strike landing with a resounding thud that left Balthasar reeling. As the dust settled, it was clear that the Serpent Blade warrior had proven himself a formidable opponent, a master of the art of combat.

In a devastating finale, Dante unleashed a crushing blow, his weapon connecting with a sickening thud against Balthasar's head. The Magic Hero crumpled to the ground, defeated and defenseless.

"Is that the best the mighty Magic Hero can muster?" Dante taunted, his voice laced with smug satisfaction.

But the Dragon Descendant was far from finished. Rising to his feet with a fierce determination burning in his eyes, he brandished his sword, and a jewel on its hilt began to emit an ominous crimson-black flame. "Hellfire Inferno!" he shouted, unleashing a torrent of cursed magic that engulfed his blade, transforming it into a weapon of otherworldly power.

Dante's eyes widened in surprise as the Dragonoid charged forward, his blade wreathed in flames. The two heroes clashed once more, their weapons ringing out with a deafening chorus. But this time, it was Balthasar who held the upper hand, his newfound power fueling his every move. With each swing of his sword, he unleashed a torrent of hellfire that threatened to consume Dante whole.

The other heroes were visibly exhausted, their once-imposing forms now hunched over and battered. Bloodied wounds adorned their bodies, evidence of the intense battle they had waged against the pope's formidable barrier. Despite their valiant efforts, the barrier remained unyielding, and the heroes' frustration and humiliation only deepened with each passing moment.

The pope's laughter echoed through the air, a cruel reminder of their defeat. "How utterly embarrassing," he sneered, his gaze settling on the Shield Hero. "But then again, it's hardly surprising considering you're fighting alongside the Devil of the Shield."

His words were like poison to the heroes, fueling their growing disdain for the self-righteous pontiff. "Your foolishness befits false heroes such as yourselves," he spat, his tone laced with venom. "The only fate that awaits you now is complete annihilation in the name of God, where not even a single finger shall remain."

The fervent voices of the followers swelled to an almost deafening crescendo, a hymn of unwavering devotion as they chanted in unison, their fervor reaching a fever pitch. "In the grace of our God, the source of all power, decipher the laws of nature and bring about a miracle to protect the blessed ones."

The Pope's eyes gleamed with a malevolent glint, a wicked grin spreading across his face as he cast the spell. "Bear witness to the true defensive magic of the highest caliber, the ritual magic of the ages!" he exclaimed, his voice ringing out with a sense of sinister pride. "Cathedral!"

A dark, ominous mist began to rise behind the Pope, its tendrils coiling and writhing like serpents. Above the heroes and their parties, a pulsating red orb formed, crackling with an otherworldly energy. Suddenly, the orb exploded with a blinding flash, and magic walls materialized around the group, trapping them with the Pope.

With a sense of deadly intent, the Pope raised his arms, his eyes gleaming with a sinister light. "In the name of God, prepare to meet your demise!" he declared, his voice echoing with a chilling finality, as he prepared to unleash his ultimate attack.

WHAT?! WHY!? HOW COULD YOU LEAVE US AN ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER!?

I expect all of you to respond with something like this. But hear me out...this is when Episode 19 ended in the anime. So in the next chapter, we'll start where we left off...hopefully.

now some bit of news. for the next two weeks I'll be on vacation so don't expect a chapter in that time, another thing is I will be scraping the Summun slain ability. honestly, it's making me look more like a necromancer than an actual magic user

But necromancy is a type of magic.

Yeah, it is but my character is using a skill, not a spell. I've been relying more on my skills than actual magic. so I'm getting rid of that particular skill

Alteration complete: So for those of you who are returning and finding the major difference, I'mma point it out just in case you didn't figure it out.

They figured it out genius.

So instead of coming from Apes, Balthasar's world evolved from dragons hence the dragon eyes, scales, and the dragon transformation. I also changed the fight a bit having Ren and Itsuki arrive before Balthasar emerges having saved Emiko from the blast
