A/N Firstly, I am honestly very surprised and happy at the amount of people reading and following this story. Thank you so much. I read every review and I try to send a message to each person thanking them for there review. I don't get everyone, but I do take it in.
Bella pops up now, the set up is in essence done. This is where we get a bit of canon, but to help the story move along, I am not going to be doing every scene. I want to point out to people, the reason that everyone accepted Alice and Harry being true mates is because alice claimed him. If they dont claim them, then no one knows. It can be guessed at, but not known till its admitted, and its something that is very important to vampires.
Chapter 3
Harry was at the hospital, of course Alice was by his side. It helped to control his temper a bit, but also made him more than a bit angry. He liked Edward, but damn, he acted like Gryffindor at times. He really hated having to use his old house as an insult at times. The man was a genius, how did he let himself get into such situations. Harry definitely didn't think he should have let her go splat, but he could have easily grabbed her and rolled at the speed he could move, making it seem as if he had jumped and got her out of the way. More believable. But noooo. He just had to stay there, and shoulder check a speeding vehicle on ice.
Alice rubbed his shoulder, she knew something but wasn't saying anything. It had surprised him that they could put up basic mental walls. Something about occlumency being a good part of mental effort, and with the amount of mental power they each had as vampires from the change, well, there you go. It wouldn't stop him or anyone with a decent enough strength in telepathy, such as what he'd been told Aro had, but it did help to keep Edward at bay.
Edward also was developing some control over his gift. He still heard everyone, but the mental practices and sorting of the memories and therefore the sorting of thoughts helped. Edward had mainly put it as prioritizing the information coming and going. It was still in the very early and rough stages, but he at least wasn't complaining as much.
No, they were all in the hospital, trying to figure out what to do about the situation. "All I'm saying Edward is that this could blow up in our faces. You just put the entire family at risk." Rosalie hissed. "I couldn't let her just get squashed. That would have been much worse, trust me." Esme looked at him with a questioning glance. "All I know is that it is incredibly hard to stay in the same room as her. If I smelled her blood, I would have lost control." They all looked at him at that one. Emmett, though rarely serious, knew it wasn't the time for jokes. Putting his two cents in, "Harry, I know you said you don't like messing with people's memories but…"
"No, not that I can't, but.." He grimaced. "She has natural barriers stronger than even mine I would say. And that's saying something." That had stopped them all short for a moment. Carlisle walked out and smiled. "I've given her a checkup, no injuries. I think we can play this off as stress of the situation and the mind trying to put it together as reasonably as it can. Family meeting tonight though. We have a decision to make." They all nodded at that and left, Edward staying, saying he would talk to her.
SLAM.
Edward started to pick himself up from the hole in the wall, but Harry was already on him with a hand around his throat, his other fist raised and glowing a crimson red. "ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID. You couldn't just keep your mouth shut. You're always the one going on about being careful, being safe, not taking chances, and then you up and TELL HER WHAT WE ARE!" "Harry." came the stern voice of Carlisle. This wasn't the normal tone, this was Coven leader.
Harry stopped, stepped away and looked at the wall. He waved his hand once, Edward was moved away from it. Another wave, and the wall was repaired, one final wave, and the area was spotless. Looking at Carlisle he bowed his head, "I apologize for my actions and words, but not the intent. With your permission Coven Leader, I will remove myself temporarily from the situation to calm and compose myself." This was something all of them had come to expect from Harry, and they hated seeing. His eyes would go dark, nearly black. His posture would be stiff, and speech very formal. It reminded them of where he came from, what he had done, and that lurking below the surface was a man who had fought against an enemy bent on world domination and genocide. That he was the spear that was used.
"Go, but don't be gone too long. And Harry," Harry stopped and looked back as he was about to leave, "I may not agree with violence, for the most part, but I do understand your anger and frustration. Families disagree and fight occasionally, but we are still family, by choice, if not by blood." Harry nodded and left. "Alice, if you would go with him please. I think he'll need you." She simply smiled and walked to the back door, wanting to give Harry a few minutes to collect himself before she was there.
She looked at Edward, frowning, "Edward. I only want you to think about one thing. Harry has only finally started relaxing, stepping away from the warrior and soldier that he was. He will do anything, Anything, to protect this family. Family is the one thing he has always wanted, and you have put it in danger. The worst though, is you didn't talk to anyone about it. That is why he's upset. Remember, he led a war, and careless actions without thought to consequences," she sighed as she opened the door, "He lost a lot of friends and loved ones that way. See where he's coming from, please." She gave him a soft smile and sped away.
"Edward, let's talk."
With Carlisle, Edward, and Esme
Rosalie had left in a huff with Emmett, she was definitely angry. "Edward, explain this to me. Please. It's not like you to do something like this, and as Harry pointed out, normally you are much more controlled." scrunching up his face and looking off to the side he followed it up with a simple question. "Is she your mate?" Esme looked at Carlisle and then back to Edward. It was a valid question, and with as much control as he always used, it might be a logical conclusion.
"I don't know. I don't think so, but I hadn't really thought of it. When I see her, it isn't like you and Esme, where you seem to just fit together perfectly. I'm not wanting to bed her like Emmett does to Rosalie, and as for Harry and Alice," shaking his head. The whole family just knew they were meant to be. There wasn't any real way to describe it, they just were. "I just know that, on one hand, I need to stay away from her, but on the other, I can't. For crying out loud it's infuriating." he nearly growled as he started pacing. "We were there, in the forest. No one around for miles. No one knew she had left, no one knew where she was. And what does she do?! She says to go ahead, bite her, drink every drop, don't stop!"
He stared at Carlisle and Esme for a moment before continuing. "How do you respond to that? Every instinct I had was screaming at me to do so, and it would have been so easy. Her bag was there, copy her handwriting and leave a note at home saying that she was going for a hike. No one would have known. No one would have found her body. Just another girl lost in the woods. Leave a few scraps here or there. Hell, I could have simply taken her truck and driven it half way across the country and left a note saying she was running away."
Carlisle looked at his son, and sighed. "The point isn't, Edward, what you wanted to do. It's what you did. I get that she guessed a good amount of it, but you confirmed it, not just verbally, but physically, and then invited her over this weekend. But what is worse, you didn't talk to the family. A quick phone call, and anyone of us could have been there. You took a giant risk, and put not only yourself, but your family in danger." He looked to Esme, silently asking her thoughts.
"I think," She started, "we take it one day at a time. We see if she can keep our secrets, and if she is your True Mate. However, as much as I do not like the law, it is there. Edward, look at me." She stared at him for a moment, and really dreaded what she had to say. "There are only two choices now. She will either have to join us, or will have to be…" grimacing, "dealt with." Edward gawked a bit, but nodded. He really hadn't thought that far ahead. "If it comes to that.." "Let's not dwell on it. We will talk to her, and over time, explain things to her. No decision needs to be reached quickly. She can make an informed decision. I will explain things to her, as is my role as the Coven Leader. And no arguing on this Edward." Carlisle had interrupted his son to finish the conversation.
With Emmett and Rosalie
Rosalie sits on a small loveseat that was in her and Emmett's room. She was mad at Edward, mainly because he didn't bring it to the family first. If he had, and Carlisle had ok'd it, then at least she'd have had her say, and could accept it, not that she thought he would without a really good reason. "What do you think, Emmett?" He had followed silently, and was standing in the doorway. He had a goofy grin on his face, as he usually did. If she was honest, she still found that smile enticing. It really did remind her of her human life. "That, for once, I'm not the one who messed up." Huffing slightly, she glared at him.
True, he usually did something stupid, but it was usually small, and didn't normally cause problems. "Oh come on babe, look at the facts." He said. "He made a choice. Granted, it was probably a bad choice, but can you blame him? Something about her and him. Don't know what it is, but it will keep things interesting. Besides, Harry decked him pretty good. If that doesn't knock some sense into him, I don't know what will." Emmett was speaking partly from experience. He had been having small sparring matches with Harry once or twice a week.
Harry had said it kept his skills good, and let him use them with his new speed. Emmett said it was just fun. Emmett hadn't won yet. Then again, despite what he said, she could see that Harry was very effective with his cobra style kung fu. Lightning quick strikes to pressure points, not that vampires really had them, but it did cause reflexes. And if he struck hard enough, she imagined he could remove a vampire's head with a single strike, assuming he didn't just remove it with magic, set them on fire, or one of another hundred ways he could deal with someone. Yes, tonight had sadly reminded all of them that he had been a warrior. She didn't like it, and much preferred him smiling and laughing with Alice in his arms. She would have shivered if she were still human. It reminded her that the only thing that probably kept him from going crazy with grief initially and gave him more direction now, was Alice. Hopefully, that never changed.
With Harry and ALice
Alice slowed down and walked to where Harry was. She watched as he went through some Kata's to calm himself and relax. She did so enjoy watching him. Each movement was carefully done. Slow was steady, steady was smooth, smooth was fast. No shirt, no shoes, and boy did she want to give him some service. They had kept things to above the waist for the most part. Exploring and light petting, as Emmett had put it. He had also been crude enough to ask if Harry just couldn't get it up.
Harry had simply smiled, and walked away, she being the only one that saw his hand do something. Emmett had been surly and scowling for an entire week. He had gone to feed almost every night. It wasn't until Rosalie had walked up to Harry, and with a bit of heat in her eyes and voice, ground out to him, "Fix it." Harry had smiled and simply snapped his fingers, and nodded. Alice had later asked what happened, and Harry had explained in two words. "Impotent hex." For the next week, neither Harry nor Alice could look at him, when he was around, without laughing. Rosalie had not been a happy camper herself.
He had made it up to her though with another hex, though weakened. He had hit her with a light sensitivity hex, set to diminish over a couple days. No one saw them for the next two days and Harry had made liberal use silencing charms on there room. He also grumbled about adding silencing runes to their door. She could agree to that. They tended to get loud and seemed to take it as a challenge if no one said anything. There was a reason Esme kept their room sparse for the most part and replacement pieces for the furniture in their room.
"I'm sorry for blowing up like that." Alice heard. It was soft with no edge to it. She walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him."It's ok. Honestly, we all agreed with what you said, and I know Rosalie wanted to slap him at least once for it." He rotated till they were facing each other and held her in his arms. "No use in worrying about the past though, Harry. We face the future, together." He nodded and then leaned in, nipping at her ear, traveling down her jaw. Moaning, she simply leaned her head back to give him more access. "Harry…" she let escape her lips.
She knew what she wanted, she knew he knew. She also knew it wouldn't get too far. "Love," he said, pulling back and looking in her eyes. Vibrant emerald green eyes stared into solid gold, as if searching for something. She knew it wasn't Legillamancy, as that usually caused a light breeze in her mind. "Stay with me out here tonight?" Looking at him, reading his expression, she felt a smile spread across her lips. The only answer he received was her pulling his head towards her, kissing him on the lips.
It was two days later, just after sunrise when Harry and Alice showed back up at the house. The other occupants had been worried initially when they hadn't appeared. Edward had offered to go find them and had come back a few minutes later with a smirk on his face and shaking his head. "All I will say is it's about time." and he went off to visit Bella. Emmett had roared with laughter, Rosalie smirked, Esme had simply whispered, "In the woods?" Carlisle had walked off to his office.
Both smiling with wide grins on their face, arm and arm, smiled and stopped for a moment. "What? You act like we were missing or something. Seriously, we just wanted to talk." Harry decided to get a jab at Edward who was there, opening his shields just a bit and sent an image of what the area they were at looked like now. "The HELL?" Laughing, the two walked up the stairs saying something about a shower.
Edward just stared for a moment then looked over to Edward. "They cleared a very decent size of the forest they were in." Shaking his head, he went off to get Bella. He hoped someone would tell the couple what was going on.
The meeting had gone well, even Harry's prank was taken in good regards, though Bella nearly had a heart attack. Edward had stepped on a portkey that had teleported him to the top of the ceiling and stuck him there. And a localized rune had kept him silent. The lights had gone out except for a few floating flames that looked as if they were on torches. Fog rolled across the floor. Once the mood was set, a coffin seemed to rise out of the ground. Bella had stood transfixed, eyes as wide as possible, but a minor paralysis spell had held her where she was standing. When the coffin door creaked open, a swarm of bats, conjured of course, had come flying out and surrounding her.
The lights came on quickly and the family was sitting there in the living room. Once everyone was released, they had all laughed and hoped that as a vampire family, they had lived up to the hype. Edward had lightly glared at Harry, "I could have done worse Eddie." He replied with a smirk. It had gone well from there. Bella had said that she had eaten because she didn't want to put anyone out, then her stomach growled. Esme and Rosalie caught a small smirk from Harry. They assumed he did something, and were grateful. It was a small thing, but they wanted to make a good impression.
Alice had given her a hug and then looked at her for a moment. A grin spreading across her face, she simply said they would be great friends very soon. After she skipped over to Harry and dragged him off to their room. A giggle was heard and then all sound was cut off. Esme looked exasperated and Carlisle chuckled. Not everything though had been smiles and laughs. Carlisle had asked Bella for a time when they could talk, as there were things that needed to be discussed. Edward had been frowning after that, but said it was Carlisle's right to speak about it as the head of the family. All in all, It was a good day though and everyone was happy.
The school hadn't been happy that Harry and Alice had missed a couple days of school, but Carlisle had already called and said that they had both been sick, having gotten caught in the rain. Things settled back into a bit of a routine for the next couple of months. Alice never mentioned what she saw about Bella to anyone, and she knew Harry would never ask. He respected her privacy too much, not that she cared. She would tell him everything if he wanted. That's just what it meant to be true mates. You lived for the other.
She did mention that a thunderstorm was coming and everyone seemed excited about it. Harry and Bella had to have it explained to them, and Harry admitted that he never played baseball, though he did mention he used to play a different sport. Bella had been interested and although they were at school, had asked what sport. She hadn't been brought in on Harry's past or abilities. Harry had made that clear to Edward that it was his story to share or not, and he wouldn't do so before she was changed, if that was in her future. So the only thing that had been said was he had a unique ability that allowed him to do different things with it. Bella had taken the hint to not ask about it.
"So what sport did you play Harry?" She knew he was still a newborn, though she was very impressed with his control as it had been explained to her what newborns are normally like. "It was a variation of soccer." Harry was the one person, besides Edward, that intrigued her the most. She did her best though to keep it hidden. All she knew was that she occasionally got a feeling that he was by far the most dangerous of them all. She didn't know why, but when even Edward had told her to not push him on things, she had listened.
Alice had come over a couple of days ago and shooed Edward out saying that Harry and Emmett needed his help. He had understood it meant that they were going hunting. After introducing herself to Charlie, and saying that she was dragging her up to her room for girl talk, Charlie had grunted and walked away quickly. When the door was shut she had sat down and motioned for Bella to do the same. "Bella, I just wanted to talk to you about a couple things. I know Carlisle talked to you about the basic laws and the position you're in, right?"
"Yeah he did. It was a little startling but I got it. I know what I want, but, and not that I am looking forward to something like that… I mean if I'm not changed, it's not like I could get away from any of you. So I'm just going with the flow for now and hoping for the best. Besides, not to offend, but Harry looks like he could do it and I wouldn't even know what happened." Carlisle had had a very frank and straightforward talk with Bella about what could happen. He also pointed out that despite whatever she wanted, he had to look out for the clan. He also pointed out to her what it would mean in the immediate future, the loss of her family, everything. He didn't beat around the bush. To put her mind at ease though, he did mention that there was no rush, and that if she truly did wish to go through the change, he would do so himself, despite what others might say.
"You're right, he could. And that's what I wanted to talk to you about. I won't go into his past, though he wouldn't get mad at me for it if I did." Smiling an impish smile, "But what I wanted to talk to you about is simple. Harry likes you, as a person. Not in a romantic sense. I want to make that clear. I know you don't have any designs on him or anything, you're all Edward all the time. The point is, if you want to be a part of this family, it will happen. And once you make that decision, Harry will protect you. He takes it as his job. Just like Edward and Emmett do. Just as Esme is our mom, and Carlisle is our leader. Just…just if he tells you to do something, trust him and do it." The topics after that got much lighter, ranging from topics of school, to boys, and even touching a bit on mates and what it meant.
In the end Alice had left and Edward had returned, though secretly. Harry over this time finally made some progress on a couple of projects. He had ordered a large marble square block that would take a bit more time to reach them. It was the right composition he was looking for after getting some samples here and there sent to him. He also had a perfect space he was going to place it. He had been doing a lot of reading on runes, wards, and such, and had figured out what rune sequence he was going to use to protect the house. The problem had been not what rune sequence he needed, and it honestly wouldn't take him long to carve in.
The largest problem had been how to properly charge it. Once charging started, if done naturally, could take up to several months to be done. However if he injected his own magic into it, it would be quick, but he could be extremely drained for a couple of days to weeks depending on factors. He had talked to Esme and she had shown him to their basement that he then made the proper adjustments to the floor in the center. He also had marked the boundaries of where he was have the wards stop at. It was roughly a mile in each direction. But would have different levels and 'checkpoints' depending on how close you got.
For the most part, it was basic wards. Ill intent, fire proofing, self repair, self cleaning, and a handful of others that just made the place easier to live in. He was also adding in a second layer of what the book had called defensive wards that could be powered up. And a final third layer that was considered war wards. He had several schemes layered up that at full power would activate limb removal and other things. Carlisle had protested at first, but it was Emmett that had settled it. "If someone is trying to harm the family, better them than us. Besides, there are warnings that somethings not right. If they can't take the hint, then it's on them, not us."
It would still take time, but it was a step in the right direction. He even made sure that in the base level, that as long as they were invited in, such as with a sign, or something, they could come and go. He was also going to key Bella into the wards as a measure in case she did go through the change. The other work he had been looking at was if a sunscreen charm would work for the glittering, sadly it did not. He tried a few other ideas. Though he did figure that each time he was wrong, it would just bring him closer to a yes. It was just a matter of figuring it out. Even a glamor charm hadn't worked. Though that did give him an idea for an aging glamor charm. However, that was for later.
He had also started teaching Emmet and Edward the basics of kung fu, but maintained that they would have to figure out their own styles. He would help where he could, but he made it clear they just didn't have the body type and movements for Cobra. However, Alice did and it led to quite a few physical sessions. After their first time together, it just came more naturally to them. Though they did do their best to regulate themselves. He was also working on a proper way to propose. He wanted to do that right.
The day of the thunderstorm and therefore the baseball game came. They were out in the field getting into position. Bella had been amazed at how they played and both her and Harry understood quickly why they could only play during a thunderstorm. It was the only way they could ensure no one noticed anything odd. With a couple unbreakable charms on the bats and ball, they didn't have to worry about replacing them either. That was when things went sideways. Alice snapped up and looked off in the distance into the trees. She had also lowered her shields for Edward to see. Harry was keyed into her shields, and as soon as she went rigid he slipped in and saw what she was seeing.
3 Nomads were coming. They had known someone was in the area after the murder at the docks, but it was hoped they would leave quickly. Apparently they wanted to play ball as well. Harry looked at Carlisle and nodded. Soon he was disillusioned, silenced, scent blocked, and was sitting in a tree right above where they would appear. His apparition, as silent as it was, would have been heard, if it hadn't been for the wind already blowing through the area. The final thing he had set up was a predator's aura. Similar to an aura of fear, this one made anyone that was not considered a friend or ally at the casting, to feel as if they were being stalked and hunted by something that was much bigger, more dangerous, and very hungry stalking them. It didn't have a long range, but that worked for his purpose.
The aura would encourage them to leave in this instance. He didn't have it ramped up to what he would use if he was going to remove someone. He was watching them, and then, when everything seemed to be good, the breeze shifted.
Chapter End
A/N So we had a lot happen this chapter, and man, I enjoyed putting it in. Key points, Harry and Alices relationship has obviously become quite more physical. I want to point out that I will not write sex scenes, lemons, and really the worst you will see is similar to what you saw earlier. As of right now, this story has been mostly T rated. However, the next chapter it will start to earn its M rating.
The actions and reaction to edward and bella are how I imagine it would have went. Bella's character is very much a charge in and deal with the consequences later. I dont remember what she actually said in the book when she confronted edward about being a vampire, but I wrote this in the idea that she knew she screwed up somehow, and really, why else would a vampire be at a school in a little no name town like forks. However, her character, at least as i saw it in the books, was very much I have to know and damn the consequences and I'll be fine.
I am not hating on Bella, and she will do a bit of growing up. Furthermore Carlisle had a talk with her in this story for two reasons. 1 Harry basically reminded him hes the leader and therefore responsible for the clan and any potential members. Its also his job to make sure any issues are cleaned up if necessary. 2 He doesn't want to put either Harry or Edward in a position to do something that they aren't comfortable with. He takes his duty as not only the leader but also a father seriously.
Also I want to point out that they are trying not to draw too much attention. I also have some serious twists and turns, and a few surprises.
Read and review, and I hope you are looking forward to the next chapter.
