The first 50 rooms went by really quick before we then reached the first elevator, which Spooky frowned at as she insisted that she grab onto my legs.
"What's with you all of a sudden?" I asked, hoping to get her to speak for a change, as she'd been very quiet since the first few rooms.
"I designed these elevators to be as shaky as possible. It's one thing to laugh at those who freak out at it, it's different to actually have to deal with it as a fleshy live one," Bella said, me frowning at that.
"How long have you been a ghost, anyways, if you're calling people 'fleshy live ones'?" I asked her as I pushed the button and I got a bit surprised at the sudden shaking as the elevator jerked the whole way until it slammed into place to the next door, which made the former ghost girl shiver in place.
"F-F-For... 99 years..." she spoke, me being surprised by that.
"So you've been around ever since the Great Depression, huh?" I asked her, earning silence and a grumble. "Do you even know the joys of the outside world beyond this mansion? Like, do you catch up on any of the current events?" I asked, her frowning at me.
"No, I've never even been able to leave this place... and I'm still shocked at how you were able to bring me back to life with just a touch... how did you do that? What kind of powers do you have?" she asked me in annoyance as we then went through five more rooms before I admitted the truth.
"I have no idea, to be honest," I admitted, which Spooky then frowned as she then inspected me all over before then poking my back, where I hid the sword at. "What's that in your backside? A weapon that can help us out?" she asked, me then taking it ouf of the uniform and showing it off, which Spooky gawked at when she saw it. And now I understood why. Back outside of the mansion, it was just a normal sword. But right now, being in the mansion? It had the very same aura of the magic sword you could find in the Karamari Hospital!
"That sword... where did you find it?" she asked me.
"It belonged to my great grandparents on my mom's side. They come from Japan, and they were a part of World War 1 and 2 for the American side as spies. They used that sword to attack the Japanese soldiers like a samurai ninja," I smiled.
"Well, I can see why. This is a blade that has been imbued with holy magic, the antithesis to the magic of this mansion! So when I came in contact with you, it revived me from death... but, I don't have a clue if it'd be different if we were to be separated at all," she said, me shrugging at that before we reached the room to where Slimegirl was, us then going inside and seeing that the room was identical in structure to Goop's starting room, only the puddle on the ground was pink instead of green. And I knew that the note on the table was the key to making her get up, but I decided to simply speak to the puddle instead.
"Uh, hey... I know you're there, missy," I said, which the slime puddle didn't respond to. "I was told to be wary of you by your boss, especially since you could digest me very easily," I said. Again, no movement. So, I simply spoke something else that I KNEW would get her to respond. "Hey, I want to know if you're sexy hot or not, so can I see the goods, Slimegirl?" I asked, that finally making the slime woman move up to form her slimy humanoid body, her giggling at me as she showed off her goods, which were very big and very pink.
"Ugh, seriously?" Bella the Spooky asked at this, which caused the Slimegirl to look at her in shock before then poking her in the face with a single finger, her getting a bit too close for comfort.
"Boss girl?" she asked, her voice sounding incredibly gurgled, but bubbly (not sorry for the pun). She then looked at me and I simply held the sword in hand, which made Slimegirl look scared and for her to turn into her blob form in response.
"Yes, just... just don't try and attack us, please?" Spooky asked, Slimegirl then responding by doing something shocking. She opened up her jaws wide and trapped Bella in her body!
"HEY! Let her out or I'm slicing her out of you!" I shouted as I saw Bella was trying to struggle and that she was losing air very fast!
"I'm hungry, let me have a meal," Slimegirl said, me then frowning.
"Okay, I warned you," I glared before I then slashed my sword through the bubblegum-like body like it were a hot knife through butter. And after one slice, the slime shrieked from it before shouting.
"OKAY! OW! I GIVE!" she shouted in pain before then spitting Bella back up, her then taking in a deep breath and me seeing she was still okay, but coated in pink-coated enzymes.
"How did that sword hurt you when you're nothing but living liquid?" I asked the slime girl, her giving me a frown as she showed her normal form and I saw that I'd injured her with some visible bruising on her body, it being colored purple instead of pink.
"J-Just... I just hate this child so much," she said with a wince before then pointing at Bella, which caused her to hide behind me.
"Yeah? Well, I'm sure you aren't the only specimen we'll encounter that hurts her. But I can tell you for sure that you being transported here from Sequinland was absolutely not Spooky's fault," I said, which made the slime girl gasp.
"S-Sequinland?... You know I come from another universe?! And yet you aren't horrified?" she asked, me sighing at her.
"I know that you're one of many enemies in the game that are comprised of monster girls in the fourth game specifically, where you routinely haunted a castle owned by Hypno Baron and that you hunted down intruders alongside some vampire girls and spider girls, with the latter being super strong," I smirked.
"Who are you?" she asked as I simply holstered the sword and gave a smile.
"Name's Mathias... now, do you want to stay there like a pile of bubblegum, or would you like to join us in getting through the rest of this place? Because three heads are better than one," I said, which made Bella look at me in confusion.
"You're kidding, right? If she really wanted to, she could devour you," Spooky frowned.
"And that's what will get us some assistance in the future, particularly with Specimen 3," I smiled, which made Slimegirl confused.
"You mean... you're going to let me eat Specimen 3?" she asked as I could hear her stomach bubbling and gurgling in hunger. "That would keep me full for a fortnight if I got it! Lead the way!" she said, me smirking at her as we then went through the next few doors and Bella then admitted something to me.
"I didn't expect you were a ladies man, you sounded much more like a smug hero when we first met," Bella admitted.
"Are you saying that because this ladies man rescued you from digestion? Or because I was hitting on a girl made of bubblegum?" I asked, which made the Slimegirl speak up.
"If you must know, I am made of liquid magic, like all slimes! What the heck even is bubblegum?" she asked, me smirking at that.
"A pink substance that is sticky, can make bubbles, and is very wet. Like you, except it isn't alive and it can't digest... and by that, I mean it both ways. Impossible for a person to digest it, impossible for it to digest a person," I smirked.
"That would be the only difference, then... y'know what? How about you call me Bubblegum? Only catch is, you need to promise I can live life outside of this monster of a mansion," Slimegirl asked, me smiling at her.
"Okay, welcome to the team, now we need to get to-" I was about to say before we entered room 98, which I saw was the most annoying one of the non-chase ones. "UGH! I hate these stupid puzzle rooms," I groaned as I then simply led our trio through the respective ones and we had to figure out the order.
"Ding. Ding... Dundun."
"UGH!" I groaned before doing it again.
"Ding, Ding, Ding... Dundun."
"This is the worst idea I ever had for mansion rooms, even as a spectator," Bella groaned as we then did it once more.
"Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!" the final ding meant it was time for us to exit to the next room, me then seeing it was one of the chasm rooms, me making sure to stick to the path along with the other two... that is, until Bella tripped up and she then rolled to the point she was holding onto the ledge!
"ACK! HELP! I TRIPPED!" she shouted, me then rushing in and grabbing her, effortlessly pulling her out of the endless hole and her then breathing in and out super fast. "My whole life flashed before my eyes... it wasn't fun," she said with a gasp as I then decided to try and ask.
"Anything worth noting? Particularly about the mansion?" I asked, her gulping before nodding.
"Y-Yes... I remember one thing about something in that hospital... a dangerous monster there, able to control the souls and minds of those it has killed... it was around when this lab was owned by... by my dad... and... o-okay, let's just keep moving," Spooky said with concern coating her eyes as we then moved into the next elevator and we then spent no hesitation to move down a level... but I did note the skeleton in the room that was not the romantic guy. No, this one was one that truly disgusted me, before I then looked at Bella and she looked at it with... shame?
"I know what you're thinking, but this one here? I only put her here because she was the only child that decided to come into the mansion... she didn't die from a specimen, she died from hitting her head on the ground after the elevator abruptly ended," Spooky said, me looking at her with a very judgmental frown.
"So why is her skeleton picked clean, then?" I asked, Spooky looking at me with a frown.
"You expect me to leave a dead child rotting on the ground? I didn't even find out about her death until her skeleton had been picked clean by Specimen 4, as she was hungry. I also wasn't aware that she had snuck into the mansion at all, as I was a bit preoccupied with another contender before her," she stated, getting stressed in the process.
"Her name, at least?" I asked.
"I don't know... you must think I'm a horrible person, but this one I feel bad for. I normally forbid children from doing the challenge, as I don't want to hurt my fellow kids," Spooky said with tears forming on her face.
"Hmm... maybe I can do something," I said as I then poked the kid's skeleton... and we then gasped as something shocking happened. The skeleton started to reform all of its organs and skin before then turning back into the kid that it was!... But there was a little problem that we had.
"EEP! D-Don't look at me!" was all she could say, as her skeleton was without clothes, the girl that had been magically resurrected by my finger was naked... I simply took off my army jacket and gave her the shirt underneath, which she then put on and sighed in relief at how it was able to cover her completely, as she was the same size as Spooky.
"How was her soul still in her? That is so bizarre..." Slimegirl asked, which made the little girl gasp before then looking confused, me simply bringing her to my leg while Spooky held onto the other as I then started the elevator.
"The reason is simple, that being that she didn't die from a monster, so she didn't get her soul to turn into a ghost. And since this mansion is basically a dead-zone for the afterlife, her soul has been trapped in her body for... uh... what year did you come in her, kid?" I asked her as the elevator finally came to a stop.
"U-Um... it was 2020... I snuck in here because I thought this was the house I needed to go to for a party... I was dead wrong..." she said, that making me smirk and do a small laugh. "Why are you laughing?"
"You were dead wrong, quite literally," I smirked, her pouting soon after. "Look, we're getting out of this place and I'm going to let you see your parents again. I just need you to promise that you will not leave my side, as we still have a lot of freaky creatures to encounter," I said, her gulping before simply keeping close to my body.
"Thank you, mister... what's your name? Mine is Cynthia Bundt," she said, me smiling as I remembered her. Her parents were trying to find her 'kidnapper' for ages, and they hadn't found it, but never gave up hope. Now I could reunite them.
"My name is Mathias Weightman, it's nice to meet you," I said, her smirking at me with tears in her eyes.
"We should head out, soon," Bella said, us then doing so as Cynthia asked her an important question.
"And who are you?"
"I'm uh... Bella... and uh... I'm sorry... I shouldn't have left the entryway unattended, and that's why you got in without being given the warnings... it's my fault and I'm sorry," Bella sighed.
"It's okay... and I know who you are, and I know what you've done... but I don't care, I just want to go home," Cynthia said as we moved through the next few rooms, getting jumped by some of the stupid cardboard cutouts along the way. But we needed to be prepared for the rest of the future monsters, as we'd encounter a new one every 50 floors.
