When Gerri is suggested as the blood sacrifice, Roman's reaction is one of panic. He manages to make a good case for why it shouldn't be Gerri — haven't we killed enough women? — but he can feel Gerri looking at him warningly, telling him not to give too much away. Even when Connor offers himself up as the sacrificial lamb, suggesting that he could have been a shadowy presence behind the scenes, which is objectively one of the funniest things Roman has ever heard, all he can think is NotGerriNotGerriNotGerri.
"Thanks for defending my honour," she says quietly in his ear, after Logan has gone to consider his options, Tom and Shiv have gone off to fight and Kendall is back listening to his stupid big headphones.
"You're welcome."
"But please, don't do that again. I can fight my own battles. I don't need you getting an I heart Gerri tattoo."
"Okay. I'll call off the trip to the parlour."
"If this comes out I'm the one whose position will be compromised. So discretion, okay?"
"Technically we haven't actually done anything," he points out. "Wanna remedy that before one of us goes to jail?"
"You won't go to jail," she says, ignoring the first part. "You had nothing to do with Cruises. It doesn't play."
"So who do you think it will be? The blood sacrifice?"
She hesitates. "Honestly, I think Kendall is the best option."
"Ken?" Roman scoffs. "Come on, Dad's a maniac but he wouldn't send one of his own kids to jail. It'll be Frank or Karl, one of those old fucks."
"Ken's one of the family, he worked on the cover-up. It makes sense. The only more logical person would be your dad, and he's not gonna give himself up."
"Do you think Dad knew?" Roman asks abruptly. "What Mo and the others were doing?"
"We all knew, Roman. Some of us are just more culpable then others."
Despite Gerri never having been wrong before, Roman still doesn't believe that his father would sacrifice Kendall. But then, Gerri's always been smarter than him.
