Frank pulls Gerri into Logan's study late in the day. "I've been going through Logan's phone as his executor," he explains as he shuts the door behind him. "There's a lot of business on there." He takes the phone out of a desk drawer. "I've made a note of all the important messages and I'll pass them on to Ken and Roman. However, there are also some personal messages, from Kerry and Marcia, which I'll let Marcia decide what to do with."
"Okay," says Gerri, wondering what this has to do with General Counsel. Is there something illegal on Logan's phone? More illegal than usual?
"There's also a message from Roman, that was left yesterday. It's the last one on there. I think it was the last one Logan listened to." Frank hesitates. "He was listening to his messages, and he got very short of breath and that's when he went to the bathroom. The message concerns you, so I thought you should decide what to do with it."
Nodding, Gerri takes the phone from Frank calmly. This probably has something to do with her firing. Frank is giving her the chance to erase the evidence that she was ever fired. It's nice of him.
"I'll let you listen. Just put the phone away when you're done." Frank lets himself out of the study quickly.
Gerri goes to play Logan's messages. She skips to the last one and listens as Roman starts talking, sounding close to tears. "Hey Dad. So, uh, that was horrible with Gerri…" Gerri's heart sinks as Roman's tears turn to anger and he unleashes a tirade on his father that Gerri didn't think he was capable of. He must have been really upset. About her.
She closes her eyes, which are suddenly spilling with tears. Oh Roman. I'm sorry.
Taking a deep breath, she brushes her tears away. She replays Frank's words in her mind. He was listening to his messages, and he got very short of breath…
Roman can never know that this was the last thing his father heard. No one else can know either, besides her and Frank. She can protect Roman from that.
She deletes the message.
