Raimundo had just left the temple… He had visited his home, of course, and spent some time there with his family, but had felt wanderlust. The winds were calling him, so after a farewell to his family, he set off to wander the world by air. The Golden Tiger Claws stayed with him, just in case he had to make a hasty escape.
During his travels, his mastery over the wind improves as he encounters storms, hurricanes, tropical storms, blizzards, twisters, and a rare fire whirl. And since he's on his own, his senses have also improved with practice…since even if he's no longer a Xiaolin Dragon, he still gets into fights.
His wanderlust changed when he went to NYC though…
In mid-flight, dancing above the rooftops across Chinatown, he literally bumped into… a dragon?
They both flopped onto the rooftop, groaning, "Ow~!"
"Watch where you're flying, dude!" the red and green dragon complains.
"That's my line!" Raimundo replies.
The dragon looks at the dude, blinks, and then comments, "Never seen you around before…"
"I'm just visiting," Raimundo says as he brushes himself off.
Before the dragon could get another word in, a strong breeze blows through, and in the next moment, Raimundo's gone.
"Huh?!" the dragon looked around, and the dude he was just talking to disappeared, "Where'd he go?!"
Sighing, the dragon eventually flies off as he has things to do.
Unbeknownst to the dragon, Raimundo wasn't gone, but had made himself invisible. Quietly, he follows the dragon as curiosity gets the best of him.
As the dragon flies around Chinatown, he's seemingly friendly with the magical residents i.e. fairies, leprechauns, unicorns, etc. It's certainly much more magic than Raimundo's seen before.
When the day turned into night, the dragon turned into a human form. A teenage boy not much older than himself…but definitely shorter.
'Is he half human, or something?' Raimundo's surprised as he only knows a couple of dragons but not much about them otherwise.
The boy quickly meets up with an old man and a dog in an empty park.
"Jake! You are late!" The old man yells.
"Sorry Gramps…" Jake apologizes, "I just literally flew into someone today. It was weird."
"Huh…" that got the dog, who does talk but isn't that weird, thinking about something.
The old man then gets started on teaching Jake about how to control his dragon powers.
Raimundo watches them for a while before the dog sniffs him out.
"Hey! I know you're there! You smell like rice and beans, by the way."
"Really?" a voice appears out of nowhere.
"Now, come out. If you are who I think you are, as long as you're not causing trouble, the kid won't kick your butt."
The voice, Raimundo smiles, "I guess…" revealing himself with a light breeze.
A Brazilian teenager with green eyes, wearing a pendant and a hoodie, leisurely looks at the dog, "Though… I think I could take him."
"Oh really?" Jake asks, eyebrow raised, interrupting them.
"Really," he smirks.
"Wanna bet?" Jake cockily asks.
"Depends… what are we betting?" Raimundo cockily asks back.
"If I win, you tell me about yourself," Jake proposes.
"And if I win, you tell me about yourself, and you let me crash at your place for a while."
"...deal," Jake agrees.
Raimundo smiles, "Deal."
They take five minutes to get ready with the dog, whose name is Fu-Dog, being the referee. The dog had changed into a referee outfit for the occasion too.
"You go down for ten seconds, you're out! The winner will be the last one left standing! And… Begin!"
"Dragon up!" Jake fully transforms into his dragon form.
"Cool dude!" Raimundo smiles.
"Thanks!" Jake smiles before launching a fireball.
Raimundo stops the fireball midair before winding it up and sending it back at him.
Jake uses his tail to block it.
"Not bad…" he comments before a dragon breath tries to burn him.
Raimundo just smirks as he gracefully dodges it before whipping up a whirlwind, using the flames to his advantage and launching it back at Jake.
Now faced with a fire dragon whirl, Jake quickly flies up and disperses the flames with his wings.
"My turn!" Raimundo smiles as he flies up to him and starts attacking him with punches and kicks.
Jake's dragon scales protect him from most of it, but he clearly isn't used to fighting midair like his opponent is.
Deciding to finish this, Raimundo flies circles around Jake, trapping him in a whirlwind, Jake himself getting dizzy before slamming him into the ground, creating a sizable crater.
"Ah…" Jake's eyes swirl, transforming back in human form.
"Annnndddd… the opposing side wins!" Fu-Dog announces.
"Not bad dude."
Jake looks at him and smiles, taking his hand, "Speak for yourself," as he gets up.
"Pedrosa. Raimundo Pedrosa," he finally introduces himself.
"Jake Long, the American Dragon," Jake introduces himself.
For the next few weeks, a whole new part of the world opens up for him as Raimundo helps out at the shop and crashes at Jake's house for a while. At least until he figures out where to go next and what his next step is.
In the meantime, he'll help out Jake, his new friend. With Huntsmen and the Dark Dragon, Rai feels Jake needs all the help he can get.
As they talk one late night, Raimundo warns him, "Just…if you run into Chase Young… run."
"Uh…why?"
"Because he's an immortal, is in my opinion, a necessary evil, and eats Lou Lang Long Soup."
"Lou Lang Long Soup?" Jake tilts his head, having never heard of it.
"The main ingredient in that soup is dragon."
Jake spittakes, "What?!"
Raimundo just shrugs, "Yeah~... He's probably why there are few pure dragons left in the world."
Jake shivers at the thought of that.
Then Raimundo has a thought and smirks, "You thinking what I'm thinking?"
"If you're thinking of siccking that Dragon eater on the Dark Dragon, then yeah. It's exactly what I'm thinking," Jake smirks, having the same idea.
They shake hands, "For the greater good."
"For the greater good."
As they planned, Jake and Raimundo had feral smiles on their faces.
"How're we gonna visit him again?" Jake asks, "If I heard ya right, it's too far for either of us to fly."
Raimundo just smiles, bringing out his secret weapon/escape route. The Golden Tiger Claws.
"Is that one of those Shen Gong Wu you told me about?" Jake excitedly asks.
"Yup," he nods.
"Golden Tiger Claws!" Raimundo slashes the air, opening a rift in space, "C'mon!"
"Woah!" he pulls Jake into the rift with him before it closes, the both of them near the entrance of Chase's lair.
"Let me do the talkin', 'kay?" Raimundo says as they enter. The big cats escort them to their master.
Being nervous, Jake follows behind Raimundo.
"Raimundo…what brings you here?" Chase greets them, smiling, "Or have you decided to join me?"
Shaking his head, he sighs, "It's not about that this time. I have a proposition for you."
"Oh?" Chase raises an eyebrow.
"The Dark Dragon is back, and he wants to destroy humanity and take over the world."
"Well… we can't have that, can we?" Chase muses, "Alright. I will deal with him. As for the benefits…"
"The Dark Dragon is yours to turn into soup, and you might even get some dark magic out of it," Raimundo sheepishly smiles.
Chase smiles, "Deal. But tell me, what do you get out of this?"
"Other than getting rid of a major threat to the world? Helping out my friend," Raimundo says.
"...I see," Chase gives Jake a glance, "I'll take your word for it then."
As the cats escort them out, Chase calls, "My offer still stands, you know?"
"I know!" Raimundo calls back as he uses the Golden Tiger Claws to escape, taking Jake with him.
And the rest is history. The Dark Dragon was defeated by Chase and turned into soup. Meanwhile, Jake and Rai celebrated with soda and pizza.
Omake:
"No, you can't eat Jake. He's half dragon," Rai scolds Chase.
He blinks, putting a hand to his chin, "Huh… it would be a bit… unethical to eat him then."
"Of course it would!" Rai yells.
"Please don't eat me!" Jake begs.
"...fine. I won't eat him," Chase grumbles, still wrestling with what's left of his humanity.
