You're on the phone with your girlfriend
With a biology textbook in front of him Theo watched as Liam picked up his phone after Hayden called him while they were studying. And watched as he started talking to her.
She's upset
Theo couldn't hear what Hayden was saying but based on Liam's facial expression it obviously wasn't anything good.
She's going off about something that you said
He listened as Liam tried to explain something he said earlier to her that she apparently didn't like. He could hear her yelling at him, obviously very displeased by his earlier actions.
'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do
He watched as Liam kept on explaining over and over again that it was a joke and that he didn't mean it. But if the look on his face was anything to go by it was obvious that she wasn't listening to him. What Liam had said wasn't even offensive, not in Theo's eyes at least. But he guesses that that's just another difference between Hayden and him.
I'm in my room, it's a typical Tuesday night
Theo was in his room just laying on his bed looking up at his ceiling after he got back from studying with Liam. He didn't know what to do anymore.
I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like
Theo decided that maybe he should at least turn on some music instead of wallow in self pity. But it really didn't help. It was just one more thing to remind him of how different he was compared to her.
And she'll never know your story like I do
He was thinking back, earlier that evening Hayden didn't seem to even understand what Liam was saying. It was like she never listened to anything he said.
But she wears short skirts
Theo looked from across the hall at Liam standing at his locker with his hand around Hayden's waist as he talked with his friends and watched as he fiddled with the end of her skirt
I wear T-shirts
He looked down at what he was wearing. It wasn't really any different from what he usually wore. Just a t-shirt and jeans with his jean jacket over it. And he just wanted to cry. He obviously liked her and what she wore. There was always something in her outfit that left him with some place to have skin to skin contact, something he learned Liam liked the most. There was never anything like that with what he wore.
She's cheer captain
Theo was at one of Liam's LaCrosse games and watched as Liam kissed Hayden on the lips as she stood with the rest of the cheerleaders on the sidelines before he ran out onto the field.
And I'm on the bleachers
He watched the games from the bleachers. Watched Liam from the bleachers. He could notice how he kept looking over at Hayden with a smile on his face as she smiled back. And even though Liam invited Theo himself he never once acknowledged he was there. After the game when Theo went to congratulate Liam on the win, he saw Liam walking away with a smile on his face hand-in-hand with Hayden, forgetting Theo was even there.
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time
No matter how hard Theo dreamed, hoped, and waited for the day that Hayden and Liam broke up, it didn't look like it was going to happen anytime soon. He just wanted Liam to realize that Hayden wasn't good for him. Because even though they looked happy he saw all the fights and times that she didn't treat him all that well.
If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Theo never really knew why Liam was still with Hayden. With how much miscommunication was happening in their relationship, he never really thought they fit. But Theo, Theo understood him, he understood him better than anyone else.
Been here all along, so why can't you see
Theo was always there for Liam, even when Hayden wasn't. He was just waiting for the day that Liam would realize that himself. Realize that Theo has always been there and will always be there.

Theo so badly wanted to just go up to Liam and tell him how much he wanted to be with him. Tell him how much they belonged together and that he was so much better than she ever could be for him.
Walk-in' the streets with you and your worn-out jeans
So this is where they were, walking together down the street on the way to the park. Their hands brushed up against each other from time to time sending butterflies through Theo's stomach every time.
I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be
As they finally made it to the park Theo was thinking about how he wanted it to always be like this, just the two of them. Together like nothing else mattered.
Laughing on a park bench, thinking to myself "Hey isn't this easy?"
Theo laughed once again at another stupid joke Liam made as they sat together. It made him think about how easy it was to be himself around him and vice versa.
And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town
Butterflies danced in Theo's stomach at the smile Liam gave him when he was laughing and talking with him. He truly only ever smiled like that with him. And he thought that maybe it was just something reserved for him.
I haven't seen it in a while since she brought you down
Even though Liam mainly smiled like that around Theo he had seen it a lot less lately since he had started dating Hayden. He just wanted to see him smile, truly smile, more often.
You say you're fine, I know you better then that. Hey, what you doing with a girl like that?
Even though Liam kept saying that he was fine and that he loved Hayden Theo could see right through the facade. He wanted so badly to give him a wake up call to make him realize how he wasn't truly happy with her.
She wears high heels
Theo watched as Liam and Hayden walked down the school hall hand-in-hand. You could hear them coming by the sound of Hayden's high heels click-clacking on the floor.
I wear sneakers
By fault he looked down at his own shoes. His worn down converse just stared back at him. Another difference between him and her that he will never fulfill.
She's cheer captain, and I'm on the bleachers
Theo watched once again from the bleachers at another one of Liam's games as he kept throwing smiles at Hayden from the field as she was cheering him on from the side lines.
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time
Theo watched from across the hall as Liam was talking with his friends with his arm around Hayden once again with a half smile on his face as she kissed his cheek. He wished that he would realize that he was right here and waiting for him.

He longed and waited for the day Liam would realize just how much he had been there for him. And how no matter what he always wanted to be there for him.

He so badly wanted to scream and yell in Liam's face to get him to wake up and realize how much Theo cared about him and was right for him.

Theo stood at the back door of Liam's house after he texted him asking him to come over and hang out.
All this time how could you not know
Theo never understood how Liam never saw how he looked at him. How he never noticed his obvious attraction to him.

He saw and heard how Liam liked calling Hayden baby and other cute nicknames. How he longed for Liam to call him those same nicknames and for him to call him those names back.
Oh, I remember you drivin' to my house in the middle of the night
Theo just got a call from Liam saying he was on his way to his. Even though it was the middle of the night Theo didn't care cause he was able to see Liam. He soon learned that it was because Hayden broke up with him.

Theo tried his best to make funny jokes even though Liam was on the verge of tears because of the news he received.

He decided to play some of Liam's favorite songs instead to try and cheer him up.

He listened sadly as Liam talked about the things he wanted to do with Hayden, but would now never get to.

He listened as Liam went on and on about how he didn't know where he belonged and what to do anymore. And he decided that enough was enough. He knew where Liam truly belonged.

"I know where you belong, Liam," said Theo. "Oh yeah? Where is that?" Liam responded. "With me," and that was all Theo said before he kept going, not letting Liam respond.

"Why can't you see Liam that I'm the one who understands you, not her?" Theo said as he kept talking.

"God, Liam. Have you never noticed how I've always been there for you? And how I will always be there for you, even if you don't want me to," Said Theo as he kept rambling on.

And then he said it, those for simple words. "You belong with me." Liam looked at Theo with wide eyes. "How can you know that?" questioned Liam.
Standing by and waiting at your back door
"Liam how many times have I come over to your house just because you asked? I drop everything I'm doing just to be with and hang out with you," answered Theo.
All this time, how could you not know, baby?
"All this time, all this time Liam, how did you never even notice? How could you possibly not have noticed how I look at you?" questioned Theo back.

"You belong with me Liam, please just give me a chance," pleaded Theo

"Even if you just thought about it would be enough for me," Theo said as he tried to read any emotion from his face.

And then he said it one last time, "You belong with me." He looked towards the ground ready to give up.

But then he heard those faithful words said back to him, "You belong with me," Liam answered as finally looked Theo in the eyes, confirming that he too liked him back.
The next day they decided to talk things out officially and decided that they wanted to be together as Liam realized that he too had been pining over Theo.
That's how instead of walking side-by-side to the park, they walked hand-in-hand for their first date at the park. And they sat on the same bench as they talked and laughed with each other.
