Wu Shi Academy/China

Several days had passed since the mortal kombat tournament to decide the fate of Earthrealm. General Blade and Jax returned to their military base with the help of Raiden, when everyone left the island.

Johnny Cage and Zack were both invited to stay with the monks and learn more about kombat as well as their Arcana. However, today wasn't a day for training and instead it was a day for celebration.

Gathered outside and on the lei tai center platform of the academy are several monks along with Zack, Johnny and Kung Lao as everyone was kneeling, save for the monks who stood outside of the platform as Liu Kang walked past everyone and stopped in front of lord Raiden and Master Wen who was carrying a decent sized black ceremonial box.

"Liu Kang, through your years of study within the Wu Shi Academy you have earned your title as the Chosen One and with the defeat of Goro and Shang Tsung you have ensured the survival of Earthrealm for another five-hundred-years. You still have much to learn on the path you walk, but I can say that I am proud of you and that you have earned your place as the next leader of the White Lotus Society." Raiden explained before Wen opened the box to reveal a platinum circular medallion connected to a sky-blue band. The medallion was also in the shape of a serpentine dragon.

Raiden grabbed the medallion and placed it onto Liu's neck as the monk bowed respectfully and accepted the medallion as everyone applauded Liu for this monumental achievement.

"Man, this kind of thing is what's going to make a cinematic universe pop." Johnny said as he was recording the entire event on his phone, making Kung Lao and Zack roll their eyes at Johnny's antics.

Now, after the celebration died down Zack found a seat within the Wu Shi Academy's library and was studying old books. The instructors stressed the importance of knowing the history of not only Earthrealm but of the other realms and possible threats.

Zack didn't voice a single complaint and valued the time he spent studying with the instructors as well as valuing the study time he took on his own in times like this as the sun had started setting and he was reading information on Earthrealm's Jinsei, the Jinsei is what grants an Arcana to a select few people access unique and supernatural abilities that normal people can't access without technological assistance.

"Still studying I see." A familiar voice said to Zack as he looked over his shoulder and saw Kung Lao dressed in yellow and orange monk robes like him.

"Knowledge is power. Besides I'm curious about this whole Arcana thing that Raiden spoke about during the tournament. He said he could sense one within me, but I'm not so sure about that." Zack explained with doubt in his words.

The Jinsei empowered humans of this earth, not his. Hell, he didn't even know if his version of earth had a Jinsei to begin with, and even if it did, it was probably polluted or destroyed thanks to the nuclear war that transpired.

"You do remember that Raiden is a God, right? If he can sense something within you, that means that it's there."

"I'm just saying that if I actually did have some form of superpower, I should have unlocked it already since I've already walked through hell more then a dozen times." Zack said back to the proud monk who took a seat next to Zack.

"That's what a lot of people think. When I was younger, I had a bit of a rough time during my training, and I thought that would trigger my Arcana. But the truth is that I only awoken it a month before the tournament." Kung Lao admitted to the shock of Zack. "Arcana is like a muscle in a sense. If you push and try to force it to grow you could risk damaging it or losing it, but if you're patient and train properly. It will awaken when the time is right."

"The monks certainly stress the important of patience. I've never really been any good at sitting still for too long. Then again, I can at least endure it better than Johnny during meditation." Zack joked and smiled along with Kung Lao.

"A good word of advice is that you shouldn't focus on it too hard Zack. For now, just focus on your training and becoming the best version of yourself." Kung Lao said in an out of character tone of wisdom.

"Thanks Kung Lao. I appreciate the talk…But out of curiosity. How did you actually awaken your Arcana?"

"Aside from my training and meditation…I was sparring with Liu Kang and was desperately trying to best him and prove myself as an equal to him." Kung Lao admitted with a bit of a sheepish chuckle.

"Sounds like you have a real drive to be the best. It's a good and bad thing. But as long as you don't let your drive blind you to the friendship you have with Liu Kang, I suppose it doesn't really matter." Zack said back to the monk who left on that note while Zack stayed within the library to study a bit more about the supernatural nature of this world, he found himself in.

Wu Shi Academy/China

At the moment Zack was taking slow and deep breaths as he parried and countered strikes from the few monks that surrounded him while master Kai watched.

The training was designed for a situation where Zack would find himself surrounded and he was quick to learn how to properly defend himself. Training with the monks taught him that he was simply a good brawler. He wasn't a trained martial artist until he started this path by coming to the temple in order to learn more about the world and himself.

Master Bo' Rai Cho was teaching him until now. Zack hadn't done anything wrong or exceedingly well to switch instructors, but Bo' Rai Cho had been given the task of becoming the newest guardian of the Jinsei and left the academy.

Zack put those thoughts out of his head though as he focused on the task at hand as he defended himself against the monks with his newly gained skills in Shaolin Kung Fu.

"Enough." Kai said as the monks and Zack all stopped and bowed to each other respectively. "You're coming a long way, Zack." Kai said to Zack who smiled in response.

"Thank you master Kai. My time here has been short, but I feel like I learned a lot. I'm a Swift Leaner as they say." Zack said to the martial arts instructor.

"Indeed, you are. Your ability to learn and adapt is impressive. Everyone here can see that Raiden has taken a liking to you for a good reason, much like your friend despite his brash nature." Kai said, referring to Cage who always had a snarky remark.

Especially after awaking his Arcana that he called his Star Power.

"Johnny can be a handful, but he means well." Zack said back before a loud explosion was suddenly heard. "What the hell was that?"

"I don't know, but it isn't good." Kai said before he rushed towards the noise, followed by Zack and several other monks. They stopped at the entrance of the Wu Shi Academy and saw several people waiting for them.

The ones in the front stood out the most. These are trained warriors that Zack heard about in certain underworld circles. Tremor, Erron Black, Kabal, Cobra, Kira, and Jarek.

Elite members of the Black Dragon syndicate.

"Greetings monks. Sorry about busting down your front door, but we're here for Cage, Kang, Lao and Courier Six. So, hand them over quietly and there won't be any trouble." Jarek said while stepping up as the leader of the crew while more monks came on to the seen and saw that the gates of the academy had been blown apart and a few monks laid dead in front of the criminal organization.

"You defile these hallowed grounds with your presence here. Begone from the Wu Shi Academy." Kai said to Jarek who shook his head with a sigh.

"You can't say I didn't try. Then again, I love it when these types put up a fight." Jarek said before he whistled and a few of the black dragon members raised their guns and opened fire on the monks, forcing them back while the main force of the black dragon advanced into the school grounds and started fighting with the monks.

"Well, aren't you easy to find?" Kabal asked sarcastically as he used his insane speed to catch up to Zack who got into a ready stance.

"I am to please Kabal." Zack said back as the man behind the mask chuckled a bit.

"So, you know about me. That makes this easier. Last chance to give up before I turn you inside out in the blink of an eye." Kabal said as he brandished a hooked sword in each hand.

"Bring it." Zack said tauntingly before Kabal closed the distance between them with insane speed and Zack found himself knocked down to the ground with a cut on his right side as blood stained his monk attire.

"What's wrong? Did I cut ya?" Kabal asked with more sarcasm before he closed the distance again, sheathed his swords to attack with a flurry of punches.

Zack raised his arms to block but found himself forced to his knees as Kabal moved behind him and kicked the back of his knees. Kabal had no problem using his enhanced speed to circle around Zack and beat him with his bare hands.

Zack, however, had his own tricks and activated V.A.T.S but saw that even with his perception heightened, Kabal was a blur and V.A.T.S struggled to get a read on him.

So, Zack deactivated V.A.T.S and focused his thoughts like he was taught to and got back up to his feet before using all of his senses to try and get a read on Kabal's speed and how he could counter.

Zack readied himself as he kicked outwards in a full roundhouse that managed to hit Kabal in the side and make him stagger. Zack didn't hesitate to capitalize as he put Kabal in a headlock and punched his head repeatedly before letting him go and hitting him in the chest with his Legion Assault technique to deliver a krushing blow to Kabal's chest, which knocked him down.

Studying martial arts helped Zack refine and improve his learned fighting abilities, and now he can even perform them faster and have stronger results thanks to his training.

"Lucky hit." Kabal said with a groan as he held his chest before bringing out his swords again and rushed towards Zack. Zack raised his guard and waited for the right moment while standing his ground. Kabal was a sadist and played with his enemies, so the shallow cuts were nothing and couldn't be capitalized upon. So, with each cut Zack endured until one final attack as Kabal had stabbed into both Zack's shoulders with his hooked swords.

Zack raised his hands and grasped onto the blades before jumping and delivered a powerful drop kick to Kabal's already injured chest, making him wince and stagger back while coughing a bit. Kabal made the mistake of letting go of his swords when he was hit, as Zack removed the swords from his shoulders and gripped one in each hand.

But when he raised them to injure Kabal, the swords were forced out of his hands as someone had shot both swords which made Zack's hands sting from the recoil of the metal. When he looked up, he saw Erron Black with a revolver in each hand.

"Your slippin' Kabal. Lettin' this little one get the jump on you." Erron Black said tauntingly to his superior in the black dragon gang.

"Shut up Black. This is my fight so stay out of it." Kabal said in annoyance while Erron had stepped next to him.

"No chance speedy. I want that money for his head." Erron said as he readied his revolvers to take the kill shots at Zack before he suddenly received a star power enhanced kick to the side of the head, sending him crashing into Kabal as the duo tumbled onto the ground.

"Thanks for the assist." Zack said to Johnny who had delivered the kick and had his entire body glowing an emerald green.

"Don't mention it Six. What kind of action hero would I be if I let my sidekick die?" Johnny asked with a smirk as Zack rolled his eyes.

"Sure, I'm the sidekick." Zack said before the two black dragons stood back up again. "I'll handle Kabal, you take out Black." Zack said before he once again picked up the hooked swords and rushed the speedster while Johnny fought the modern-day cowboy. Thankfully, Johnny's star power gave him protection from bullets.

"Those belong to me!" Kabal shouted as he reached into his long coat and threw a buzzsaw blade at Zack, who barely dodged it. Sadly, Zack was caught off guard by Kabal who rushed in and delivered a combination of strikes to Zack before reclaiming his swords and hooked them onto Zack's ankles before spinning rapidly in a circle before Zack was thrown onto the ground with an intense headache as he felt like the world around him was spinning.

"You think you're some kind of hot shot?" Kabal asked as he held one of his hooked blades against Zack's chin before he kicked Zack in the face, which burst Zack's lip and drew blood. "Your nothing!" Kabal shouted before he picked Zack up by the collar of his robes and punched Zack in the face with his fist while he gripped his hooked sword for added damage.

He punched Zack several times before tossing him onto the ground where he used his hooked swords to slash at Zack's chest four separate times as Zack let out noises of pain from each cut.

'Come on Zack, you've fought raiders, robots, the legion and Deathclaws. You survived so much crazy shit, and you can't let it end here. Get up and fight like you've always done.' Zack thought to himself while feeling a strange surge of energy swell within him after he found his resolve to keep fighting, despite the odds that he was currently facing.

When Zack tried to get up, he saw Kabal prepare for another slash, but the world almost seemed to slow around him without the use of V.A.T.S as he felt a strange connection to certain objects around him.

Zack raised his hand to try and stop the sword swing and discovered that the sword stopped before it made contact with him, and Kabal seemed to be unable to move the sword at all.

"What the fuck?" Kabal asked in confusion before he used the sword in his other hand to strike at Zack who focused and was able to stop that swing as well. Kabal was fuming as he tried pulling the swords back but saw them almost frozen in the air.

Zack felt a connection to not simply objects around him, but the metallic objects that surround him. The guns, bullets, bullet casings, Kabal's swords and metallic armor pieces that he is wearing.

Zack was confused but didn't question it as he focused with all his might to try and force Kabal back and with both hands pushing outwards, he sent Kabal flying a far distance away from him.

[New Perk Unlocked!

Arcana: Polarity]

Zack's senses felt as if they had just truly awakened to reality and he could sense the metallic substances around him and not just the metal, but the blood as well, more specifically the iron within blood. That meant that not only could he sense the blood being spilled, but he could sense it coursing through everyone fighting and the senses threatened to overwhelm him as he clutched his head.

The feeling felt as if his brain was trying to tear itself apart, but he was soon brought back to reality when he felt a hand on his shoulder, making him look over and see Kung Lao.

"Zack are you alright?"

"I…I don't know? I can sense and…control the metallic substances around me, but there is so much, and it feels like it's going to make my head explode." Zack said as he clutched his head again from a new headache forming, but as he did, bullets halted in the air, shell casing rose into the air along with several metallic objects and the people wearing/using them before Zack let out a scream and the objects all suddenly fell as Zack's eyes rolled into the back of his head as he collapsed onto the ground unconscious.

Kung Lao

"Incredible." Kung Lao said as he picked up Zack and used his Arcana to teleport away into the Wu Shi Academy building, or more specifically the medical wing where he dropped off Zack with a few of the monks that knew of medicine. "Take care of him." Kung Lao said before he left and made his way back to the action.

"What took you so long?" Liu Kang said as he caught up to Kung Lao after dealing with a few of the black dragon gang members.

"Had to help Zack. He awoke his Arcana during the fight, and it seriously overwhelmed him." Kung Lao replied before both monks dodged a small boulder that had been thrown at them.

"Liu Kang and Kung Lao. I am ordered to capture or kill you." Tremor said as he walked up to the monks with his firsts and forearms covered in dense rocks. "You will die with the rubble."

"Should I handle him, or do you want to?" Kung Lao asked as he got into a ready stance.

"I've got to help the other monks, but I'll return when I can. Try to leave some for me." Liu Kang said before leaving to fight with the other monks.

It wasn't a sign of disrespect in either monk's eyes, and instead it showed the level of faith that Liu Kang had in Kung Lao's fighting abilities. So, if the chosen one thought that he could handle a miniature rock elemental, then who was Kung Lao to argue.

"Looks like I'll be your opponent today." Kung Lao said before he quickly threw his hat at Tremor who side stepped it. However, Kung Lao quickly teleported where his hat was, behind Tremor and when he turned around, Kung Lao let loose with a flurry of rapid and Chi enhanced blows that made the large rock man stagger.

Tremor quicky retaliated with a surprisingly quick side kick to Kung Lao, giving the rock based fighter some space before Tremor extended his hand and released a blast of rocks towards Kung Lao who quickly moved out of the way of the attack as Tremor continued to try and hit him while Kung Lao simply ran around him, barely avoiding the rock assault until Tremor stopped and created a spike rock in his dominant hand that he tossed at Kung Lao.

Kung Lao countered by throwing his hat at the projectile. The result was the chakram hat cut through the rock and managed to cut Tremor's shoulder, making the man look at his wound with annoyance as blood trickled down his arm.

The hat returned to Kung Lao as Tremor's body changed and became a gold like substance, which shocked the monk a bit as Tremor brought both his fists together in front of him as a form of intimidation.

"This place will be your grave." Tremor said as he started to charge at Kung Lao and each stepped told the monk that Tremor's form wasn't fake gold. It was the real deal, which meant that his attacks would do serious damage and his defense would be improved as well.

Gold is a strong alloy, and, in this case, it could end up killing Kung Lao if he wasn't careful. So, Kung Lao fought cautiously as he evaded a golden spike projectile heading towards him and got in close to Tremor, meeting the goliath head on as Kung Lao dove under one of his wide swings and was behind him as Kung Lao used his chakram hat to slice at Tremor's exposed back.

Luckily the gold wasn't as strong as pure gold despite its strength. Kung Lao had a hard time cutting the black dragon member, but he did and left a large cut on Tremor's back before Kung Lao was forced back from an arching arm swipe that knocked him off his feet.

Kung Lao quickly recovered and got back up before focusing his Chi into his hands as he once again clashed with the rock elemental. Chi enhanced fists attacked elemental gold and Kung Lao felt each attack as his fists turned bloodied, however Tremor also felt the blows and staggered back a bit before he grabs Kung Lao and jumps into the air before slamming the monk down onto his back on the ground with a power bomb technique that forced all the air out of Kung Lao's lungs along with a bit of blood.

Tremor didn't relent however and grabbed Kung Lao's ankles before swinging him around in a circle before releasing his grip and throwing the monk towards a nearby wall. Kung Lao didn't like that and while in the air he altered his form to hit the wall with his feet instead of his head as he jumped off the wall with intense momentum while rotating in a full 360 degrees with his fists extended outwards as his torpedo style attack hit home.

Tremor was knocked off his feet and hit the ground with a thud as Kung Lao landed on his feet with heavy breath as he walked to Tremor who was slowly rising back up to his feet.

Kung Lao grabbed his chakram hat once more and threw it towards Tremor with all his might when the elemental stood up on his feet. Kung Lao's hat managed to cut clear through Tremor's right arm making him scream out in pain as the golden arm fell to the ground and blood gushed from the wound as Kung Lao's hat made its way back towards its master.

Sadly, that wasn't the end of the fight. Tremor's wound quickly mended itself. Pointed rocks emerged from the wound to cut off the bleeding and now he focused and created a new arm of rock spikes for himself to use.

"Don't think this fight will be so easy. You will die with the rubble." Tremor said before his body changed again and turned a dark obsidian color with lava like veins lining his body as Tremor extended both his arms outwards and fired a jet of molten rock towards Kung Lao who quickly threw his hat to the side and teleported out of range as the molten rock scorched the ground where he once stood.

"Out of the frying pan and into the fire as they say." Kung Lao said to himself while silently praying that his great ancestors would give him strength in this battle as he once again assumed a ready stance.

However, Tremor was sudden sent flying backwards onto the ground by a powerful gust of enchanted wind.

"You will defile these grounds no longer." A familiar voice said as Kung Lao looked up and saw two god's descending towards the ground.

Fujin and Raiden…They did not look pleased.

"You've done well fighting an elemental of his strength on your own Kung Lao but allow us to take it from here." Fujin said to the monk.

"Of course, Fujin." Kung Lao said with a bow of respect as Tremor stood up to his feet once more and this time the earth seemed to start shaking underneath their feet while steam started erupting from Tremor's body.

"You've fought a Shaolin but now you face god's elemental. Your crimes in these lands won't go unpunished." Fujin said before he drew his thin looking sword from his waste and slashed at Tremor, sending a blade of enchanted wind his way.

The wind blade struck Tremor's body and delivered a large cut, but Tremor mended the wound with more molten rock as the ground around him started to burn and change to a molten state as Tremor demonstrated that this was his strongest form.

Kung Lao didn't stick around as Fujin clashed with Tremor, while Raiden fought the other black dragon members with his enchanted lighting and godly strength, which quickly put down the group of heartless mercenaries.

Johnny

"I've got to admit. I thought you jerks would be tougher than this. Erron put up more of a fight than you." Johnny said to Cobra who grit his teeth and tightly gripped his kali sticks.

"There's no way in hell I'm losing a fight to a washed up has been like you." Cobra said in rage as he attacked Johnny with the kali sticks, but Johnny being the martial arts star that his is, was trained to use weapons and knew how to work around them.

To say that Cobra was shocked when Johnny broke through his guard and delivered a solid uppercut to his chin with a star power enhanced fist would be an understatement. Cobra was knocked out cold as Johnny stayed in his stance and looked on at Kira and Jarek who stood in front of him as he felt his star power fading.

Johnny was surprised by how much energy he had while using this power, but it seemed to have run dry now that he has fought tough opponents with it.

"I'll wear your skull like a trophy." Kira threatened as she brandished her two large combat knives while Jarek readied his whip.

"Let's see what you've extra understudies got." Johnny said before he was suddenly knocked down from a surprise attack hitting him in the back.

The attack came from Kabal and when Johnny turned to look at the speedster, he was a bit concerned for Zack's wellbeing…Even if he did some weird magical stuff earlier that messed up Kabal and Erron Black's weapons.

"Your friend fucked up my swords. So, now I'm going to fuck you up Cage." Kabal said as he held up his hooked swords that were now bent and blunted.

"What happened with the other one?" Jarek asked.

"Doesn't matter! I'll get his skull later!" Kabal shouted in furry. He had been clowned during this attack and he wasn't going to stand for it any longer, but before he could do anything, he was suddenly sent flying.

The source of that came from Liu Kang who had hit Kabal with a surprise dragon kick that sent Kabal flying into the black dragon's flamethrower unit. His hooked swords sliced a flame tank and burst into flames with several of the black dragons dying in the flames while Kabal ran off in agony as he tried to extinguish the flames from his body with his speed.

"Consider that a warning. Leave now or face the consequences." Liu threatened as Jarek lashed at him with his whip, but Liu caught the weapon as Kira closed in to stab him with her knives.

Liu evaded the blades after releasing Jarek's whip as he quickly disarmed Kira before delivering a quick combination of jabs to the black dragon which knocked her out cold.

Jarek was no fool and saw the battle turning against the black dragons as several members had lost their lives in this fight that was supposed to be an easy job.

'This can't be fucking happening. We had the numbers and weapons, but were losing to a bunch of fucking monks in a Chinese temple? What the fuck?" Jarek asked himself mentally as his grip tightened on his whip before was shocked at see a bolt of lightning strike the ground between himself and the monk.

"Lord Raiden." Liu said with a smile to his master as Jarek was at a loss for words now. Kano never told him anything about a guy who travels with lightning powers.

"You have defiled these sacred grounds with your presence! This is your final warning! Take your followers and leave or face the wrath of a god!" Raiden said in a commanding voice as lighting crackled all around his body and Jarek knew when to say no to a fight.

"This ain't over. We'll be back for the bounties on your heads." Jarek said before he walked over and grabbed Kira by her shirt collar along with Cobra before announcing to the other black dragon members that were in ear shot, that they had to withdraw.

"Did they seriously just give up when Raiden raised his voice? Talk about stock minions." Johnny said as he dusted himself off before feeling a bit dizzy and lost his footing.

Luckily Liu caught him before he could fall.

"I think I might have overused my star power a bit." Johnny said before his eyes closed, and he passed out.

"Liu Kang, take Cage to the healing monks, I'll help the others clean up what's left of this mess." Raiden said to his student who nodded his head in agreement.

Wu Shi Academy/China

"My head." Zack said with a groan as he opened his eyes and saw that he was on a bed in the medical wing of the temple next to some other monks who are nursing some bad injuries.

"Your finally awake." A familiar voice said as Zack looked towards the door of the room and saw Liu Kang enter.

"How long was I out?"

"Two days, your Arcana overwhelmed your body and mind." Liu replied as Zack thought about his words for a moment before noticing that he could still sense metallic substances, but the sensations were…Muted somehow.

"I can still sense metallic things, but not as strongly as before and not as well either." Zack said as he rubbed his head a bit.

"While you were unconscious, Raiden saw the damage that your Arcana had done to your body, so he placed limiters on your abilities that can be undone through proper mastery of your gift." Liu explained as Zack stood up from the bed he was on and noticed that he was dressed in new clean robes.

"I should be mad but that's probably for the best. It was like my power had set my senses on fire and I couldn't handle it." Zack said to Liu before both left the medical wing and started walking through the halls of the academy.

"When an Arcana awakens it is usually an intense experience. All things considered, you're lucky that you didn't injure yourself too severely."

"I'll try to remember that." Zack said back to his fellow monk before they made their way to the ruined courtyard that was being repaired by a few monks. "What are we doing out here?"

"This is the area where many monks fought in defense of the Wu Shi Academy, and it is where Fujin and Raiden fought for the Academy as well. The souls still linger and yearn to watch over the Academy, and those souls will watch you become a true kombatant as I train you." Liu said surprising Zack for a moment.

"You're going to train me?" Zack asked before a bolt of lightning came down near them and Raiden appeared.

"It is good to see that you are well Zack." Raiden said with sincerity. "I trust that Liu Kang had informed you about your new training."

"He was just telling me that he was my new instructor, but I have to ask what brought this on. It couldn't just be the black dragon attack."

"You are correct Zack. The black dragon attack isn't the sole reason for this change. The main reason is the strength of your Arcana. It has the potential to be a truly strong force, and I believe that Liu Kang is the best instructor that can aid you in mastering your gift." Raiden explained while Zack looked down at the ground for a moment.

"I won't let either of you down. Also, I want to thank you Raiden. If you hadn't blocked away parts of my new weird powers, I don't think I could calmly stand here without feeling overwhelmed again." Zack said to the lighting god.

"Think nothing of it, Zack. In all honesty I expected you to be more upset."

"I suppose it would be fair of me to be mad, but it was the right choice to make. Too much power is a bad thing in the hands of someone inexperienced with it." Zack said back as Raiden nodded in agreement.

"So, how is your training going to be different from normal Liu Kang?" Zack asked as the monk smiled.

"I will teach you in the same manner that master Bo' Rai Cho taught me and Kung Lao. That means that your training is going to be much more intense compared to the new students." Liu said as Zack was prepared to take on the challenge.

END!
