Chapter 6
The next morning, Olivia checked in on Albert Diaz. He was still terrified, but she had something that she needed to tell him. They'd found DNA on some of the undergarments from the rape trees and there was a familial match to Albert's. The other DNA, they knew who it belonged to, another BX9 member, street name Sacrilege. They were still tracking him down, but Duarte knew where to look so it wouldn't be long until he was in custody.
Elliot, on the other hand, was spending his morning with his Sergeant. Ayanna could tell that his mind was elsewhere despite being able to cover in front of his younger coworkers. She needed him here, even if it wasn't exactly at one hundred percent.
As the team split up, the Sergeant called him into her office. He headed inside the room behind her and shut the door, before taking a seat across from her desk. Ayanna hadn't known Elliot as long as the detectives at SVU did and she didn't know all of his moods and tells. Still, as a commanding officer, she knew something was up.
"Elliot, you with me right now?" She asked.
"Of course, Sarge. The two Miami cops have no idea what they are doing. Swooping in to try and take our case," Elliot gave her a look. They were trying to chase down these street racers who had more connections with organized crime than one would have thought.
"We have to make nice – or at least make it look like we are. Our new boss, Deputy Inspector Thurman, is all over my ass. I'd like to keep him off for a bit," Ayanna pointed out.
"Consider it done. We'll nab these suckers. We just need Jamie to pull himself together," Elliot said.
"Get working on that," the Sergeant gave him a look.
"Yes ma'am," with that he stood up and left the office. Ayanna pulled out her cell phone and put together a text to Captain Benson. This was becoming a problem, but she understood where the elder officer was coming from. She had no idea what she would do if someone had come after her family like that.
Lieutenant Kate Dixon met with Fin and Bruno in the conference room at Bronx SVU. She had come over from the two-seven at the request of Captain Benson to translate for the deaf victims of the serial rapist. The Lieutenant had half-expected to find her fellow commanding officer there but was instead met by Fin.
"Sergeant Tutuola? Detective Bruno?" Kate asked the two men.
"I'm Tutuola. Thanks for helping us out, Lieutenant," Fin smiled as he shook her hand. Bruno shook her hand as well.
"You've got a serial on your hands and One PP has been a little slow to act in the translator department, Captain Benson tells me," Kate said.
"Not exactly high on their priority list since Bronx SVU was apparently more of a mess than we ever knew. It doesn't help that Bruno here made them realize the error of their ways. We could have an innocent guy in prison here for something he didn't do," Fin explained.
"Well then let's get to it. What does Captain Benson have to say?" Kate wanted to know.
"That she wants to be here and she definitely would be if they hadn't found those rape trees. There have been some very bad things going on under the radar that deserve to be brought into the light," he told her.
"The world never fails to surprise me anymore Sergeant and I haven't decided whether that's a good thing or a bad thing," Kate admitted as the three moved out of the conference room. The victims they wanted to interview would be here soon and they had to catch this guy before he could strike again.
