A/N: Sorry this is so late. Things did not go according to plan last week. Enjoy!
Chapter 13
The next morning, as Fin walked into Bronx SVU, Bruno practically tackled him. The older detective was about to give the man a piece of his mind when Bruno blurted out,
"Fuentes went all out."
"What do you mean?" Fin gave him a look.
"He struck out in the database, so he ran familial DNA," Bruno explained as the Manhattan SVU Sergeant went around him and into the conference room. He needed a cup of coffee.
"What did he get?" Fin wanted to know as he made his beeline for the coffee machine.
"A half-brother in Park Chester named Alan Little," Bruno explained.
"That's a hell of a thing. All right let's get down to Park Chester, after I have a few more sips of coffee," the Sergeant said as he took a seat at the table, holding the hot cup of brown liquid. It smelled like someone had made a strong pot.
"We may have to tread carefully. Alan is a CPA and he doesn't even have a parking ticket. If he's hiding this guy, he's not going to want us to know. His livelihood could be on the line," Bruno frowned as he sat down in the chair next to him.
"You think half-brothers share everything? Our guy just blurts out that he's a rapist and a murderer?" Fin gave him a look.
"We don't know what set this guy off. Why he's doing what he's doing. What if our supposed squeaky-clean CPA is in on it?" The younger man wondered. Fin nodded. The two might not be fully related but to some blood was blood.
"So how do you wanna play it?" The Sergeant asked.
"Well, we haul his ass down here in a raid and the half-brother is watching, we'll lose him," Bruno shook his head.
"Why don't we just tell him that we've had a complaint and we need him and his wife to come down to the station? It's a quiet way to make sure that the brother doesn't get suspicious," Fin suggested.
"What if we split up and snag him at the office and tell the wife he's been in an accident?" The younger man wondered.
"I like the split-up idea, but we tell the wife that her husband has been arrested. Tell her that he's under suspicion of fraud and his career is about to get blown up if they can't answer some questions," Fin had a better idea. He had just finished his coffee and was feeling better already.
"You want the wife or the husband?" Bruno asked.
"You sweet talk the wife and I'll go bust the husband's balls. Maybe we'll get lucky and one of them will crack on the car ride back to the precinct," Fin chuckled. Bruno laughed and the two headed for the conference room door. They then moved to their separate vehicles. Fin got into his car and called for a squad car to meet him at Alan Little's office. Then he called Olivia.
Elliot watched his former partner leave the hospital room to take a call. Then he turned his attention to Albert and Monica. The woman's look of concern had somehow deepened since they got there. The relationship between mother and son was broken and rocky but she still loved him. She had to know that this was his opportunity to get out of the life and away from the shitshow his life had become.
"You want him to tell you everything," Monica spoke up without looking away from her son.
"Albert shot at and beat up an NYPD Captain. If it had been anyone other than Captain Benson, he'd be in the hospital unit at Rikers. The least he needs to do is admit that he's alive right now because of Captain Benson. At most, he needs to tell us who sent him after the Captain," Elliot told her.
"They will kill him," Monica said.
"Yes, they will but we're offering protective custody. He won't go to Rikers," he pressed. What he really wanted to tell her was that he already knew what happened to Bugbear. Elliot wanted to do more than that, but they needed honey to catch the flies this time around, no matter how much his blood boiled.
"Where would he go instead?" Monica wanted to know.
"The Feds will take him into custody. You will join him. They will change your names and move you to a different city. You don't take the offer and you'll be on your own and so will Albert. Difference will be, he'll be in jail, and easy to get at," Elliot laid it all out for her. She looked at her son and he had this look in his eyes. The seasoned detective knew the look. Albert no longer seemed to care what happened to him. The fear was overriding the right decision. The door was closing.
"Albert, we have to go. You shouldn't need our protection here since they changed your name on the paperwork," Olivia walked into the room from the hallway.
"You're just going to leave us here?" Monica gave them a look.
"I have some officers coming for the local precinct. They should be here soon," Olivia told her. There was fear in the woman's eyes. Albert's face remained unchanged. He was too far gone. It broke Olivia's heart. He was too young to have that look. There was a knock on the door and the two NYPD officers turned their heads.
"We're here for protection detail," there were two officers there.
"Excellent. Thank you," Olivia gave them a smile. This was the last time she would be seeing Albert; she knew that. They had to move on. The only way to get Oscar Papa was through someone else.
"It was the driver," Albert's words barely came out above a whisper.
"Who?" Elliot asked.
"Oscar's driver. He gave the order to hit Captain Benson," Albert heaved a sigh.
"Thank you, Albert," Olivia told him. She turned to Elliot. They had someone to go and arrest.
