Chapter 6
Hanging Out
"Well i've never been a bat before! Lets enjoy it for a bit!" Jyoti says suddenly sounding excited grinning with her bat teeth. We watched her as she leapt into the air flapping her new bat wings in flight. Keesha and i looked at each other and well...we both established that we might as well enjoy it! We also leapt off the ground and began to flap our wings to join Jyoti in the fun. "This is so cool!" Jyoti says, "I forgot how amazing bats are!" Keesha then answers as we all flew together. I was really enjoying it too, being a bat again was totally cool but i was also getting slightly peckish and it wasn't for human food. I didn't even feel like the mallow blaster i had in my backpack that was sitting on the ground just below us. "Hey guys, i'm getting hungry shall we have a snack before we investigate the source of this magic?" i shout to the girls, they both then flew and hovered near me "I'm a little hungry too!" Jyoti says, Keesha then smiles and responds "What say we fly out of this castle and hunt for some food?". The look on Jyoti's face was a little uneasy "Oh yeah! Bats eat insects especially moths!" she cried, "That's right i remember from the last time Ralphie and i became bats lets join that swarm of bats and lets eat!" Keesha yells excitably. I nodded in agreement as we began to fly with the other bats. We blended in perfectly!
We headed out a window towards the lake that was beside the castle joining in the screeching that they were making. The moon was now behind a cloud. As we flew there were many insects flying around especially moths. Ok, this is were it might sound a bit gross but we were eating them. We were now bats afterall and we were hungry! The thought of a juicy moth now seemed delightly tasty although it wasn't what i was craving. I was still unsure what i was craving to eat or drink. At least bats still drank water and the mothers milk when they are babies. "Mmmm yummy!" Keesha stated as she caught a moth and placed it into her mouth, "Hey guys look at me!" Jyoti shouted as she flys across the lake on her side touching the water with her right wing and then catching a moth to eat too. There were heaps of moths flying around but i just didn't bother to catch any. Keesha noticed and flew towards me to see if i was ok "Ralphie, i thought you were hungry?" she asks me but then the moon came out from behind the cloud and i immediately got creeped out by it. Without saying anything back to Keesha, I flew towards a nearby tree and purched myself on a branch hanging upside down like bats do "Let's hang out here guys!" I shout to them.
Normally as a human, i do not get bothered by the light of the full moon but now that i'm a bat it's a different story. As i hang upside down, i wrap myself up using my bat wings for camouflage and to remain safe from predators. Keesha and Jyoti fly towards me to see if i was ok before joining me on the same branch also upside down "Ralphie? What's up with you? You normally have a great appetite!" Jyoti quietly asks, "Yeah just like Arnold!" Keesha that says in a giggle causing both girls to laugh. That did make me smile and giggle just a little. "I'm just hanging out! Get it! Hanging out!" i say to them "Oh no! That's am awful Carlos like pun Ralphie!" Jyoti tells me. I thought it was pretty good honestly! "I am feeling peckish but i don't know what for yet!" i answer to the girls "and its not for moths or another insects, more like a thirst...", the girls looked at each other as we were hanging out on this brunch and then back towards me "Must admit i am thirsty too, water seems not so tasteful at the moment" Jyoti states. "There is plently of water to drink here what is it besides water do you both crave?" Keesha asks worried.
"I'm too afraid to tell you" I answer back to Keesha, "Oh come on Ralphie, its not that Mallow Blaster you can in your bag?" Jyoti asks me giggling and then Keesha joined in the laughing too. "Ralphie seriously? You were afraid to tell me that you just wanted your Mallow Blaster?" then says trying very hard to get the answer out of me, she wasn't going to give up that easily. The girls kept laughing and making fun and i was beginning to really had enough of it. "Gosh the blood to rushing to my head!" I hear Jyoti stating and then that't when Keesha looked at me "You not…?" she asks in concern. There was silence, all you could hear were the sounds of the other bats squeaking and the water gently rippling on the lake. The girls looked at each other and then looked back towards me. The moon began to hide behind a cloud and before i even attempted to answer the question, i saw an opportunity and began unravel myself and flew away. "The darker the night! The safer the flight!" I shout, it calling to me, the red stuff, yep you've guessed it! The smell of blood never smelt so sweet and with my new bat instincts i was determined to find it. "Ralphie! Ralphie! Wait stop!", "Ralphie! Snap out of it!" I hear the girls voices behind me as they followed me, how are they not smelling the blood too?. Hypnotised or not, i was truely under this mysterious spell, i just had to see where it was coming from.
Just as i was about to activate new bat call, i saw that the moon was beginning to show itself again from behind the cloud. It didn't stop the me from smelling the blood but i still became afraid of it once again. That was the only part of being a bat i didn't like, so i perched myself on another tree brunch. Keesha and Jyoti had caught up me huffing and buffing "Ralphie! Seriously?" Jyoti asks as Keesha tells me that i had taken of so fast. I didn't even realise "Sorry guys! Please tell me you smell it too?" I ask them hoping that surely i wasn't the only one. I received puzzled looks from both of them while we all hung upside down "Ralphie, surely you not craving blood? That's impossible!" Keesha states "Well Keesha, Ralphie might be not the only one!" Jyoti quickly tells us sounding scared and shaky voice "I'm beginning to have the thirst for blood too!". Keesha glups really loudly as she was now becoming extremely nervous "Keesha? Are you alright?" Jyoti asks her as i could see she just want as white as a sheet. Can bats do that? She looks towards me and Jyoti in silence then swallows "You want blood too?" I gently and nervously ask her. She closes her eyes, takes a deep breath and begins to nod.
