It was a sunny day in Paris when Alya and Marinette arrived at school.
"I'm looking forward to today, it's going to be a great reunion" said Alya
"Reunion? What reunion?" asked Marinette
"Lila texted me yesterday, saying she was excited about seeing her old friend, Zach, again" said Alya
"Wait, Zach? As in, Zach Petiot?" asked Marinette
"Yeah, apparently, back when they were little kids, they were best friends when Zach was starring in a movie in Italy" said Alya
"HA! Okay, now Lila's bitten of more than she can chew, there's no way that she and Zach knew each other" said Marinette
"Marinette, give it up, you're just jealous because Lila likes Adrien, she's not a liar" said Alya
"Her first day she said she was friends with Ladybug, you know I'm Ladybug and I'm definitely not her friend."
"Okay, one time, but she was hoping she could be your friend, that doesn't mean everything she says is a lie."
Marinette was a bit annoyed that Alya didn't believe her, but she let it go for now. The girls headed to the classroom where Zach was already seated, chatting with Nino and Adrien.
"Hey Zach, so, did you hear who's in class today?" asked Alya
"Huh, who?"
"An old friend of yours."
"An old friend…what do you…"
Zach's words were cut off when the door opened and in walked the familiar face of Lila Rossi. Marinette smiled as she watched to see Zach's reaction.
"Well, long time no see, Zach." Said Lila
Zach stood from his seat and stared at the girl.
"Lila Rossi?" asked Zach
Marinette's smile disappeared and was replaced by a look of confusion. Adrien was just as confused, how did Zach know Lila?
"I'm so happy you remember me, after all these years, I thought you might forget me."
"Of course not, Lila, how could I forget you? I didn't know you were in Paris."
"Yeah, moved a few months ago when my mother got a job at an embassy, what about you?"
"Moved to Paris last month when my father got a job at the Court of Cassation, I was not expecting to see you here." Said Zach
"Yeah, small world."
Lila held her arms out and Zach pulled Lila into a hug. Marinette was surprised her jaw didn't hit the floor, for once in her life, Lila Rossi had actually told the truth.
"See, Marinette, told you Lila was being honest." Said Alya, before going to her seat.
Marinette looked back at Zach and Lila when she noticed something, Zach seemed to be secretly scowling at Lila. They broke the hug and went to their seats. Marinette and Adrien went to their seats too when Miss Bustier came in to start the class. Marinette discreetly wrote a note on a scrap piece of paper and passed it to Adrien, who picked it up to read.
We need to talk to Zach later.
Adrien looked back at Marinette and nodded in agreement.
==Later==
During lunch, Marinette saw Zach head up to the roof of the school, he seemed to go there a lot when he wanted to be alone. She and Adrien followed him, where he took out his lunch.
"Hey Zach." Said Adrien
"AGH! Oh, hey you two, what are you doing here?" asked Zach
"You seemed a bit shocked to see Lila in class today, we didn't expect you to have a history with her." Said Adrien
"Uh, yeah, we have quite a bit of history, actually."
"So, if you and Lila are friends, why did you scowl at her when you hugged her in class?" asked Marinette
"Lila and I are definitely NOT friends, not anymore" said Zach
"Huh?" asked Adrien
Zach reached into his shirt and took out his wallet, before taking out a photograph. He showed the photo to Marinette and Adrien, it showed a 5-year-old Zach and Lila pulling faces at the camera with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in the background.
"I met Lila when I was really young, before I had even started acting, me and my parents had moved to Italy for a year to take care of some stuff when a family member passed away, that's where I met Lila, back then, she was honest and kind, she was actually a lot like you, Marinette" said Zach
"Like me? Lila was nice?" asked Marinette
"Yeah, after I returned to France, I promised to try to keep in touch with Lila, so we became pen pals, a couple years later, after I had started as a child actor, I returned to Italy to shoot some scenes for a movie and I met with Lila again, I had taught her some acting tips and we had fun hanging out again" said Zach
"If Lila was so nice back then, what happened?" asked Adrien
"Well, that was what happened the next time I visited, I returned to Italy a couple years after, I noticed a change, Lila had become a manipulator and opportunist, she had used the acting tips I had taught her to lie to people and put herself on a pedestal, she was not the same Lila I had become friends with, I no longer considered her my friend, but, since I felt I didn't want to be on her bad side, I decided to act like she was still my friend" said Zach
"So, what happened to Lila that made her go from nice to mean?" asked Adrien
"Jonah." said Zach
"Who's Jonah?" asked Adrien
"Jonah Rossi, Lila's father" said Zach
"Her father? Lila doesn't talk about him, what's he like?" asked Marinette
Zach smiled.
"He was a good man" said Zach
"Was?" asked Adrien
"Lila loved her father more than anyone or anything, he always cheered her up when she was down. He was a treasure hunter, he died in a cave in when searching for some precious relic, with her father gone, something inside Lila changed." said Zach
"I can kinda understand that I think I might've ended up just like Lila if my father died when I was that age" said Marinette
"Me too" said Adrien
"And me, for a while, I wanted to see if I could change Lila back to the person she was before, but, eventually, I realised the old Lila was gone for good." said Zach
"Wow." Said Marinette
The trio stood in silence for a moment when the beeping of Adrien's phone broke the silence.
"Oh man, I gotta go, I forgot I have a shoot to get to."
"Alright, bro, see you later." Said Zach
"Yeah, see you later, Adrien."
Adrien ran off. As he was making his way to the exit, he ended up bumping into Lila.
"Oh, hey, Adrien."
"Hey Lila, sorry, I'm in a bit of a rush."
"Well, I need to talk to you, but I'll be quick, I promise."
"Lila, I really…"
"Adrien, I think we need to accept facts, there's always been something between us, I don't know why we bother to try to fight it."
"What are you…"
Adrien was cut off when Lila pulled him into a kiss. Marinette came downstairs from the roof and was shocked when she saw Adrien and Lila kissing. Tears filled Marinette's eyes and she ran into Miss Bustier's classroom.
==Hawkmoth's Lair==
"The tragedy of heartbreak, a love seeming to be lost, the perfect feeding ground for my akuma."
A white butterfly flew into Hawkmoth's hand, he covered it with his other hand as it was engulfed in a dark energy, turning it black and purple.
"Fly away, my little akuma, and evilize him" said Hawkmoth
==Françoise Dupont==
What Marinette didn't see was Adrien push Lila off him.
"What is wrong with you?" asked Adrien
"Adrien…"
"I have tolerated a lot of what you've done, Lila, but now I'm warning you, if you ever try that again then I'll make you regret it."
Lila's look of surprise switched to a scowl.
"Oh, will you? What are you going to do? Expose me? Better have tried, Agreste. And I'll let you know something, I always get exactly what I want, one way or another." Said Lila
Adrien walked past Lila. Unfortunately, she was right, there was nothing Adrien could do. He had no way to expose her lies, he couldn't do anything as Cat Noir either or he would risk exposing his identity.
Meanwhile, in the classroom, Marinette sat at her desk, trying not to cry. Tikki flew out of her coin purse.
"Calm down, Marinette, you know Adrien wouldn't do that, he knows about Lila's lies, he knows that she's not a good person."
"I know what I saw, Tikki."
Tikki sat on Marinette's desk when she saw something approaching.
"Uh, Marinette…"
"Not now, Tikki."
"But Marinette…"
"I said, not now."
Before Tikki could say anything else, the akuma flew into Marinette's charm bracelet that Adrien gave her on her birthday. A purple outline started shining in front of her eyes.
"Oh no."
"Heartbreaker, I am Hawkmoth, I can feel your heartbreak, the feeling of betrayal from a loved one…" said Hawkmoth
"Come on, Marinette, fight it!" said Tikki
"…I can help you make things right, give you the power to make him yours, the way it should be, or maybe, if you can't have him, why should anyone else?" asked Hawkmoth
"I…I…" said Marinette
Tikki heard the sound of approaching footsteps and quickly hid. Zach stepped in the classroom and saw Marinette with the akumatization symbol on shining in front of her eyes.
"MARINETTE!..."
Zach ran over and grabbed Marinette by the shoulders.
"Don't do it, Marinette, you're better than that!"
"It's a win-win situation, of course, all I ask for in return is that you bring me the Miraculous of Ladybug and Cat Noir." Said Hawkmoth
"N-n…NO!" screamed Marinette
"What?!"
The symbol shattered and the akuma flew from her bracelet.
"Well done, Marinette."
"Zach, I can't believe it, I was almost akumatized."
"But you weren't, you rejected Hawkmoth's offer, that was amazing."
"It was?"
Meanwhile, Lila was walking through the school when she saw something that made her smile, she quickly grabbed the akuma and forced it into the bracelet she wore. A purple outline started shining in front of her eyes.
"It's been a while, Hawkmoth" said Lila
"It truly has, it appears my original intended ally wasn't ready to accept my offer, but I'm pleased to see you again, one of my most loyal associates. I sense that you have recently suffered a similar heartbreak to her, I'm sure you'd be more than happy to accept the power that she rejected." said Hawkmoth
"Of course, Hawkmoth."
A dark aura enveloped Lila. Her clothing changed to a look similar to her Volpina look, but the colours changed to black and pink, and she had no fox ears. There was also a symbol of a broken heart on her torso. Heartbreaker walked out of the school, where she saw a loving couple. She held out her hand and a bright light enveloped them and the love they felt for each other was replaced with clear bitter hatred.
==Classroom==
"What was that?" asked Zach
Zach and Marinette looked out the window and saw Heartbreaker using her new powers to steal everyone's love.
"This doesn't look good." Said Zach
"That looks like Lila, she must have gotten the akuma that tried to get me."
"Oh no, Marinette, you wait here, I'll try to follow her and see where she's going."
Zach ran out of the classroom and Tikki came out of hiding.
"Looks like Adrien rejected Lila after all."
"Thank goodness for that, but for now, we need to take care of Lila…"
"TIKKI! SPOTS ON!"
Marinette brushed her hair out of the way as Tikki flew into Marinette's earring. Both of Marinette's earrings turned red and 5 black spots donned the surface of the earrings.
Marinette covered her eyes before moving her hands away to affix her mask.
Marinette stretched out one arm as a bright pink light pasted Marinette's suit onto her.
Marinette's Yo-Yo materialized around Marinette's waist.
With a little dance and a high kick, Marinette posed as her transformation into Ladybug was complete.
Meanwhile, Zach ran into a closet and Howll came out of hiding.
"Why am I not surprised that Lila's been akumatized already?" asked Howll
"Not important right now, little buddy…"
"HOWLL! FULL MOON RISE!"
Howll flew into Zach's bracelet. His Gauntlet formed on his other arm.
Zach snapped his fingers in front of his face as his mask materialized.
Zach ran his fingers through his hair, causing his black, spiked hair to develop purple highlights and a set of wolf ears to form on his head.
Zach raised his right arm above his head and extended the retractable claws in his Gauntlet, before driving the blades into the ground as his suit formed on his body.
Zach waved his arms in front of his waist as his belt materialized.
Zach posed as his transformation into Nightwolf was complete.
==Hawkmoth's Lair==
"Gabriel, are you crazy? Lila is going to go after Adrien, you've put your own son in danger."
"Worry not, Nathalie, once she gets me Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses, I'll simply take away her power before any harm comes to Adrien." Argued Hawkmoth
"But…"
"Enough, I will hear no arguments."
Nathalie said nothing, she only left the lair.
==The Louvre==
Adrien had his photo shoot with the Louvre Pyramid in the background. It was going well, until it was interrupted by Heartbreaker.
"Hello Adrien."
"Huh, Lila?"
"Not anymore, call me Heartbreaker now, I told you that I always get what I want, one way or another!"
Heartbreaker grabbed Adrien by the collar and jumped from the Louvre to the Eiffel tower. Adrien had no idea what to do, if he couldn't get away from Heartbreaker, then he couldn't transform. The people on the tower panicked at the sight of Heartbreaker and tried to run off, but she caught them in her beam and stole away their love.
"Hm, whoever rejected this power has to be the dumbest person alive." Said Heartbreaker
"Or the strongest for being able to say no to Hawkmoth." Said Ladybug, who just arrived with Nightwolf
"Ah, Ladybug, and I see you brought your new friend, Nightwolf, where's the kitten?"
"He'll be here soon enough, but since we all know how this is going to end, you're better off just surrendering before he gets here." Said Nightwolf
"Ha, I don't think so."
"I was afraid you would say that…"
"LUCKY CHARM!"
Ladybug flung her Yo-Yo high into the air. Energy shot out from the yo-yo before creating a shield.
"Hm, a shield, not bad."
Heartbreaker tried to fire her beam at Ladybug, only for Ladybug to block it with the shield.
"Nice try, Lila."
The heroes and Heartbreaker broke out into a fight, Adrien could only watch on.
"Quick, while Heartbreaker is distracted, you can get away to transform." Said Plagg
"That wouldn't work, Plagg, there's nowhere to run."
While Heartbreaker fought Ladybug and Nightwolf, a news helicopter flew nearby.
==Agreste Mansion==
Nathalie sat on the couch, watching the news report on her tablet.
"This is Clara Contrad, reporting live from the Eiffel Tower where Ladybug and Nightwolf are battling with Hawkmoth's latest akumatized villain, Heartbreaker, who appears to have taken teenage model, Adrien Agreste as a hostage, so far, there is no sign of Cat Noir."
Nathalie couldn't simply watch this any longer. She reached for the safe and pulled out the Peacock Miraculous, before putting it on and releasing Duusu.
"Nathalie. Lovely to see you again."
"Same to you, Duusu, but we need to take a stand, Gabriel has put his son in danger."
"But Nathalie, the miraculous is still damaged, it's dangerous."
"That's a chance I'll just have to take…"
"DUUSU! SPREAD MY FEATHERS!"
Duusu flew into Nathalie's brooch.
Nathalie clicked her heel onto the floor as her dress began forming on her body.
From her feet, the transformation worked its way upward, once it reached her hands, her Hand Fan materialized in her fingers.
After waving the Fan in front of her face and performing a graceful pirouette, Nathalie posed as her transformation into Mayura was complete.
Mayura took a feather from her hand fan, squeezing it in her hand, filling it with magical power, before blowing it away in the air.
"Fly away, my beautiful Amok, protect Adrien at all costs."
==Eiffel Tower==
The heroes kept fighting with Heartbreaker. Things would have been easier if only Cat Noir was here to help. The amok flew into Adrien's ring.
"Adrien, I am Mayura, I know you don't trust me, but Hawkmoth has gone too far this time, you are the only one that can help the heroes save Paris and stop Heartbreaker, I can give you a sentimonster to protect Ladybug and Nightwolf."
"Mayura? You're kidding, this is a trick, I know it."
"It's no trick, Adrien, Heartbreaker is too strong, and you know it, I may be Hawkmoth's ally, but there are lines I won't cross, but Hawkmoth isn't the same, please, let me help you."
"I…"
"C'mon kid, don't fall for it!" said Plagg, still hiding in Adrien's shirt
"Plagg…"
"What? Who's there?"
"Uh, no one."
"Well, Adrien, please, let me help for once."
"Um…alright."
The fight was interrupted when the heroes and Heartbreaker looked to see a large black jungle cat appear beside Adrien, letting out a fierce growl.
"What is that?" asked Nightwolf
"A sentimonster, Mayura must be up to her old tricks again."
"Mayura?" asked Heartbreaker
The cat pounced, tackling Heartbreaker.
==Hawkmoth's Lair==
"What is going on? Where did that cat come from?...Nathalie!"
==Eiffel Tower==
The cat pinned down Heartbreaker.
"Adrien, the akuma is in her bracelet." Said Mayura
"Thanks, Mayura."
The cat grabbed Heartbreaker's bracelet with its tail and threw it towards Ladybug and Nightwolf, who stared on in confusion.
"Ladybug, the akuma is in that."
Ladybug smiled and stomped on the bracelet to break it, letting out the akuma.
"No more evil doing for you, little akuma" said Ladybug as she opened her yo-yo
"Time to de-evilize!"
Ladybug captured the purple akuma in her yo-yo.
"Gotcha!"
Ladybug released the akuma, now purified into a white butterfly.
"Bye-bye, little butterfly" said Ladybug
Meanwhile, Mayura snapped her fingers to release the Amok, which Ladybug also purified with her yo-yo.
"Bye-bye, little feather." said Ladybug, before throwing the Lucky Charm into the air.
"MIRACULOUS LADYBUG!"
An explosion of pink energy dispersed into a swarm of ladybugs that flew around the city, repairing all the damage caused by Heartbreaker, and reverting her back to normal.
"Pound It." Said Ladybug and Nightwolf
==Agreste Mansion==
"Duusu, fall my feathers!"
Mayura de-transformed into Nathalie, who collapsed on the couch nearby when Gabriel arrived.
"What is the meaning of this, Nathalie?"
"You've gone too far Gabriel, you put your own son in danger, if I hadn't stepped in, there's no telling what would have happened to him."
"I told you that I knew what I was doing!"
"No, you didn't!"
Gabriel scowled at Nathalie and snatched away the Peacock miraculous
"You leave me no choice, Nathalie, you're fired!" said Gabriel
==Françoise Dupont==
Just before the final class of the day, everyone was in the courtyard. Zach and Alya were in the corner discussing some stuff about their research about Ladybug and Cat Noir, but Alya seemed distracted.
"You alright, Alya?"
"Yeah, it's just Lila, despite how good a person she is, she just can't help but keep getting akumatized."
"Honestly, given how she actually is, I'm not surprised." Said Zach
"What are you talking about? I thought she was your friend."
"I'm warning you, Alya, Lila Rossi is nothing but trouble" said Zach
As Zach walked back to the classroom, Alya just turned to stare at Lila, who was chatting and having a laugh with some classmates.
==After School==
As the students were on their way out of school, Max Kante felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey Max"
Max turned around to see Adrien.
"Hey, Adrien" said Max
"Um...Max, can I ask you a favour?" asked Adrien
"Sure, what is it?" asked Max
"Well, you're good at inventing things, right?" asked Adrien
==Meanwhile==
Nathalie sat at a local café, looking at a screenshot from the Ladyblog, showing Cat Noir defending some civilians from an akuma.
"Good luck, Adrien."
