Rarity couldn't say when she started having feelings for Big Mac.

She liked to visit Applejack and have a chat with her, trying to show her the latest rustic fashion, and with her gaze following the red stallion as he moved placidly and industriously in the fields.

One afternoon in September, Applejack found her more distracted than usual, and asked her a very specific question:

"Rare… Do yawl like mah brother, by chance?"

The seamstress didn't even have to answer, her fiery face had spoken for her.

Applejack was happy: she would have a trusted friend in the family.

Of course, it hadn't been easy to convince that shy Big Mac to go out with the beautiful Rarity, but the two genuinely liked each other and were happy together.

It was November 19, 2019, and the two had been together for two months now.

Twilight's reign had begun in mid-August, and peace had finally reigned supreme, with the threat of Tirek, Chrysalis and Cozy Glow averted.

The Mane Six breathed a new air, which would lead them to start a new life, following their desires and inclinations.

Rarity, for her part, wanted to expand her business outside of Equestria and find a good stallion, somepony to settle down and build a family with. And she had found him.

The silver-furred unicorn had a solid passion for romance, and enjoyed teasing her friends about it. That day, she had come to Sweet Apple Acres to be with her coltfriend and best friend, she had enjoyed pressing the orange mare, slyly sipping her hot chocolate.

"Are you really sure that you're interested in nopony?"

The cowgirl's emerald eyes darted from side to side. She was a really bad liar.

"Honestly, I don't have much time to think bout these thangs, Rare…"

She was clearly uncomfortable. Rarity had hit the nail on the hoof: Applejack had somepony in her heart. But who?

"Don't you have the desire to start a family?"

"NO." she had answered, bluntly.

The sapphire-eyed unicorn was a little upset, but she preferred not to insist.

"Can I at least know if it's an unhappy love?"

The pony with freckles felt her tears pricking the inside of her lower eyelids; her friend was empathetic and she knew.

It was an unhappy love.

She couldn't tell anyone about it.

Who could she have blamed? Celestia and Luna?

Some things are not destined to be, and she had only touched that pony who would soon inexorably move away.

Without answering, Aj crossed her hooves on the table and rested her head on them, looking out the window.

Who knew what she was doing.

Twilight Sparkle.
