Rosamie could feel tears burning in her eyes, a sensation that was both completely new and startingly familiar.
A hand was gently holding hers and she could feel the warmth of several people around her.
It was a strange sensation, when she had never expected to feel the touch of another again, let alone anything at all.
But her eyes opened and she could see Tori sitting beside her, holding her hand. Michi knelt down in front of her, meeting her gaze.
And behind Michi…was Robin.
He was just as she remembered him, wearing those ridiculous clothes from the trial and the gloves that protected his burned hands.
The tears that burned Rosamie's eyes overflowed. She wanted to say something, but she didn't know what. She reached out, unsure if she was trying to push him away or bring him closer.
Robin decided for her, stepped a bit closer and brushing his fingers against hers.
"I'm sorry…" Rosamie whispered, the words catching in her throat. It felt like they were being dragged out of her against her will, like she hadn't experienced these feelings in an eternity, when they had haunted her life for what felt like so long.
"We know, Rosa," Tori whispered, squeezing Rosamie's other hand.
Rosamie swallowed, feeling the familiar cord around her throat where it belonged. It had never felt so constricting and she was no longer sure if she would be able to wear it like this when this was over.
If it was ever over…
"They figured it out," Robin smiled, stepping a bit closer. He didn't say he forgave her and Rosamie didn't expect him to. "They're alive, that's what matters."
'Things will work out. We will watch over them and all will be fine.' Michi signed, smiling that undying smile that she knew oh so well.
Rosamie couldn't speak around the lump in her throat, her natural realism warring with the optimism Michi offered that she so desperately wanted to believe.
"It's all we can do for them now," Tori said, grim and determined when Rosamie glanced at her. "If nothing else, this can be our atonement."
Atonement…
Yes, if nothing else, Rosamie could do this. She looked up and stared at Robin through her tear clouded glasses.
"For them." He nodded.
'For them.' Michi signed in agreement. There was a serious light in his eyes, unwilling to die even now.
Rosamie took a deep breath and squeezed Tori's hand.
"For them."
The web still spun around them and now she could do nothing but watch.
